I got paid 75k/year my first year as a newly minted BCBA in California in a low cost city. I later left the private sector to work in the government field as a 'behavior analyst' 122k/year. 6 figure money as a BCBA is out there, you just have to find the right organization. Hospitals (working with TBI patients) and Government (education or federal intel agencies) pays the best, over private centers or in-home orgs.
Hey I am in grad school for aba and I graduate in December. To build my experience and knowledge I want to stay in the clinical setting for a few years however I am wanting to transition to the government. Do you mind explaining what that transition looked like for you ?
@@novajd7192 Federal government agencies like hiring people with diverse background and experiences. The minimum tends to be 1 year of proffesional experience in your field of studies after earning your masters before they will consider you. The FBI, and Secret Service are flexible with hiring people with diverse and specialize backgrounds outside of law enforcement. Alternatively, if you commit to earning your BCBA, Some County office of education organization or school districs will pay their BCBAs 6 figure salaries for 200 or fewer days of work per year. The clinical setting isn't doing too hot due to stagnate insurance reimbursement rate for BCBA billable hours that ought to increase.
Wow! I’ve been making $65,640 before certification, and the company I worked at previously paid RBTs $28/hr, in your master’s $30/hr, graduated with master’s $40 per hour, and BCBAs $55/hr! I just received an offer for $75k after I pass. These pay rates are between Montana and Colorado.
I started investing as an RBT, after (2015-2019) 4 years and some supervision work I had reached my first 6 figures. As I worked as a BCBA from 2019 - now i touched around 400K. Negotiating pay is KEY, I love that you made this video. I hope everyone behavior analyst starts investing and really unlocks the power of their incomes!
@@Jean-om1ok My income from my 9-5 is about 94K in SoCal area 4 years experience. I make money on my instagram page with workshops, I did some for ABA companies too! But no, I don't make 400K annually! I made it to a 400K Networth in 6-7 years investing my income.
I like the addition of the Mic! It takes a lot of guts to talk about numbers especially since the culture around talking about wages encourages us to hide what we earn which in turn is a benefit to the businesses to shoot for lower wages.
Isn’t it wild? Now my perspective is who cares? I think it has so much to do with how we think others will perceive us. I’m confident as a BCBA and leader now so I know my salary isn’t my worth. Just the budget.
I think you’re incredibly kind for telling your story and brave for talking about something that use to make your uncomfortable.. specially on camera. Thankful for your honesty and for sharing your experience ❤ You will be blessed, believe it and congratulations on your new baby!
BCBA’s make more than 100k $75 per hour in Florida and I know others than make $80-$90 per hour. Sorry but they don’t pay you a fair salary. $29 per hour is less that RBT make. Salary in Florida for RBTs is between )26-35 per hour. As a RBT you can make between 75k and 90k it’s depend how many hours you do per week.
Excuse me? RBT making between 75-90k? On what world do you live on because if you could find a RBT making even 60k a year working 40 hours you'd be finding a needle in a haystack. Lmao 90k that's crazy. Not in Florida, that's for sure.
@@TheBanjoShowOfficialI live in Florida and I'm an RBT. I make $30 an hour but my annual salary is not even that much. Being an RBT is very unpredictable. Cancelations are inevitable. People get sick, go on vacation, have other appointments, etc. Hours are never guaranteed. It's usually 20-30 hours a week, depending on the company.

yes please make a video about independent contracting vs W2! that's what im trying to decide between right now. As a new BCBA, it's very confusing. I think I would enjoy independent contracting a lot more, but I'm hesitate and don't want to get ahead of myself since I'm just starting out as a BCBA and only have experience in-clinic.
I’ll get started on it! I’ve learned to take the leaps if you are confident in your ability, others will see that. I’ll get that video up in the next few weeks!
I’m looking at becoming a BCBA- I’m currently a school counselor with a MEd in Applied behavioral studies in manual health counseling Just looking to open more options. Amy advice will be appreciated on programs etc
Oh fun! I’m on could be a BCBA in school with your experience that’d be so useful. There are a ton of programs. Figure out what you can afford, if you want online vs in person, how fast you want to program to be and where you want to receive your supervision from.
I've since learn I was 100% being exploited! I deserved wayyyyy more. Especially after learning what the company was making when they billed per hour of my work. INSANE.
3:08 we shouldnt definitely talk about pay. We should definitely have a union. Not talking aboit about pay and not having a union leaves us vulnerable. Gotta hold these companies accountable, yeah we like to help people but we still should fairly compensated across the board. It takes a lot to get the certification. Remember, doctors do hours and get attednies like we do hours and get supervisors. Though we are not operating on people we are still dealing with the mental space of people and manipulating behavior sanctioned by insurance through ethics. No reason we should not be paid less than 100k across the board.
There is a great thread on Reddit that discusses unionizing. It is complicated and not the company’s fault solely. Insurance companies drive the market rates through their reimbursement rates.
Thank you for your video!! The information is very helpful. I just got my master degree and I am preparing for the bcba exam now! So nice to see a video talking about the salary part. Very appreciated❤ just curious, have you ever considered moving to a big city and get a better salary BCBA position?
So funny story! I actually did just that! I have a commitment with my current company to cover a maternity leave virtually then I’ll get that bump in pay (around 75k) when I venture out :)
Very informative video. I am a child and youth worker in Toronto, and previously i completed masters in psychology from India. However i can not practice as a psychologist in Canada with my Indian Qualification. I am thinking to explore more career options that will pay me well. Thank you

Your salary as a BCBA varies drastically depending on where you live
I know!! That’s why I pointed out where I live
I think its crazy that any BCBA's get paid anything less than 100k. Across states. Doesnt make any sense.
It really depends on so many factors, but we certainly deserve to be paid our worth!
