thanks. yes, the words here are quite heart-wrenching. Some other Weill favorites are "Berlin im Licht-Song", "Der Abschiedsbreif", "Es regnet" and "Je Ne T'Aime Pas" and ofcourse all of the better known things (3 penny, Alabama song, Surabaya Johnny). thank you for watching.
Amazing! Beautiful melody, and I am amazed at how complex some of the fingerings are to keep the bass going. Above all else it's smooth and musical. Well done!
Thank you for kind comment for my video. I love your wayof playing so much! Well sofisticated arrange and clear tone. Great! I've never known that Kurt Weill wrote such kind of piece. Thank you for good inspiration.
Very beautiful! I really enjoy the way you change from Beatles to bossa to tango and so on... And thanks for the hint on Teresa Stratas video, also excellent.
Always a pleasure my man. Somehow you manage to make the good vibes come across. I wish more people including myself could only do the same. It would be a different world if only we all could.
OK you say: My arrangement. I have no tab or score written down. Sorry, please don't ask. But you should write it down. Its exelent transcription. Students around the world will love it!!!! Thanx for sharing.
TH-cam's messaging system is seriously messed. Anyhow do a search for "stratas youkali" to see a really nice clip of this song sung in french with english subtitles. really great.
Wow, I love this piece. Just yesterday I thought, hmmmm I wonder if there's a guitar arrangment out there that I can learn, or better, maybe I can arrange it. Then today, I found this.....Damn. Outstanding!!!!

@jazzopera well, that's what i was trying to do anyhow. not sure it's completely successful with some of those awkward parts. I never rerecorded this anywhere. In fact, i've completely forgotten how to play it by now!
Still, a very nice job! I have a recorded version with a string quartet. You played most of the parts with 1/4 the hands. One of my favorite songs. Thanks for sharing.
I'm so glad I happened on this one. Kurt would enjoy your arrangement - so do I! I'm eager to learn it. This isn't the first video I've seen of your fine performances - 'Cry Me A River' is real nice too. And thanks for all the Beatles tunes - check out my 'Blackbird'. More Weill please!
Thanks, man! I can't seem to post a comment if it includes a url to another youtube video. yet another brand new bug! Anyhow do a search for "stratas youkali" to see a really nice clip of this song sung in french with english subtitles. really great.
Like all of your videos that was great. Is the Guitar the only instrument you play? How old were you when you were first introduced to it? Who are your influences? Is this how you make a living? What are your other hobbies?
thanks! I took the piano & vocal score out of the library and brushed up my ability to read the bass clef (which i'm none too good at). Then in conjunction with a recording i learned it by ear..with reference to the score to add notes or correct harmonies. It's not a perfect arrangement, but it's something to work with.
there are ways to extract an mp3 out of youtube audio. not sure how to do it myself. but i know it can be done. google for "mp3 save youtube audio". there's probably freeware. then import into audacity and "change tempo". woo hoo!
yeah, that bass gets pretty hairy at points! In fact, i had parts of it down a little smoother than in this version, but this was the best 'overall' take, so there it sits. Thanks!
Having sung this song many times, I am most impressed with the balance you struck between being faithful to the original and interpretation. As a former guitarist, I cannot even begin to imagine the work that went into this arrangement. Have you considered publishing it? It would be a worthy contribution to the repertoire, and is so well suited to the instrument. Have you done any other recordings of it?
i'd say it took roughly 20-24 hours to work it out and play it this well. needs more work, like everything i do. It helps that the original is also in Dminor.
Wonderful!!! I am in awe of the time it must take you to get this impressive repertoire down to memory. I seldom see you look at sheet music ( with the understandable exception of the classical guitar pieces). How do you do it?
Maybe you could post an mp3, so people could learn it from that? I have this guitar trainer thing that slows down and loops passages. Can't do it with a youtube clip, though.
I first ran across this video 11 years ago.
More than a dozen years later it still gives such pleasure. Thank you so much for all your good work.
Ziemlich überzeugend!

oh. my. god. i just googled youkali tango and acoustic guitar and here you are. better than how i ever could have imagined it.
Quiet and beautiful, that's what separates me from an intense noise the world is in. Perfect playing

Mystérieux, lancinant, mélancolique et merveilleux. MERCI !
Thank you for kind comment for my video.
I love your wayof playing so much! Well sofisticated arrange and clear tone. Great!
I've never known that Kurt Weill wrote such kind of piece. Thank you for good inspiration.
Been working on that song for almost three weeks and it's starting to flow, thanks to you!
It's really nice to hear an actual sense of musicality on guitar for once. Excellent sense of rhythem too!
Very beautiful! I really enjoy the way you change from Beatles to bossa to tango and so on... And thanks for the hint on Teresa Stratas video, also excellent.
Beautiful! I'm dancing to this lovely and pensive sunset of a tango
Thanks for this beautiful moment! Ana from Portugal 🔆🌈✨
This is the sexiest piece of music I have ever known. Thank you so much for your lovely interpretation of one of my favorite pieces of music. LOVE.
Truly lovely arrangement!
Always a pleasure my man.
Somehow you manage to make the good vibes come across. I wish more people including myself could only do the same. It would be a different world if only we all could.
Excellent rendition of this wonderful tango...!! BRAVO...!!
Merci
I come again. I like to here your arrangement and playing very much.
Mükemmel yorumlamış ellerin dert görmesin yüreğine sağlık
Splendide, it's a real pleasure to hear this melodie.
All the best
I heard your Villa Lobos "Melodia Sentimental" on another page and it was excellent...what a beautiful arrangement! You are really quite talented.
Excellent arrangement interpreted with talent &sensitivity .Merci .
OK you say:

But you should write it down. Its exelent transcription. Students around the world will love it!!!!

Thank you for a very romantic piece of music. I enjoyed it and sent to friends very dear to my heart

Perfect arrangement and beautiful song. Cheers.

thank you so much. that is one of my favourite songs, and you did a lovely interpretation of it. +5 and faved!
I watched a lot of your video's, but I think this is my favorite! Very nice. Seems like a lot of practise to get this piece correctly!
L'etoile qu′on sui,
L′étoile qu'on suit,
C'est Youkali
Mais c′est un rêve, une folie
Il n′y a pas de Youkali
Mais c'est un rêve, une folie
II n′y a pas de Youkali

really nice and played with much emotions. congratulations!

Bonjour, Claire. Actually the tuning is just drop-D (DADGBE). I don't have any score written down.
Like all of your videos that was great. Is the Guitar the only instrument you play? How old were you when you were first introduced to it? Who are your influences? Is this how you make a living? What are your other hobbies?
I'm gonna practice harder! Yeah! On a separate note, really like the quality of the notes and feel of the song and the arrangement! Cheers!
thanks! I took the piano & vocal score out of the library and brushed up my ability to read the bass clef (which i'm none too good at). Then in conjunction with a recording i learned it by ear..with reference to the score to add notes or correct harmonies. It's not a perfect arrangement, but it's something to work with.
thanks! you can read some of that stuff in my profile. influences can be guessed from who and what i play.
great play and music!
thanks. yeah, i know. i'm just too lazy and writing music down takes me WAY more time than it should. I'd just rather work on something new.
Wonderful rendition. Congrats.
there are ways to extract an mp3 out of youtube audio. not sure how to do it myself. but i know it can be done. google for "mp3 save youtube audio". there's probably freeware. then import into audacity and "change tempo". woo hoo!
Maravillosa interpretacion!!!
Fabulous!
excellent... again!
Just passing to listen to it again...
:o)
thanks! I'll check it out. I know some of Piazzolla's guitar music is beyond my technical level. It's something to shoot for, though.
❤❤❤ thank u for this version
yeah, that bass gets pretty hairy at points! In fact, i had parts of it down a little smoother than in this version, but this was the best 'overall' take, so there it sits. Thanks!
very good, I wish I could play tango!
First-rate rendititon of a small Weill masterwork.

Muy buén tema. Gracias.
thanks for ALL the comments, Joan. cheers.
i'd say it took roughly 20-24 hours to work it out and play it this well. needs more work, like everything i do. It helps that the original is also in Dminor.
wow...just the first two? a and g#. anyhow, it shouldn't be too hard to find a copy of this. The original is in dminor too

How long does the process take you, to arrange the pieces as you do ?? Its a fantastic skill that you have.
Cheers,
Alex
Ah... kurt weill. Well done!
