This episode made me sob HARD even when I started re-watching the show recently. The 1st time I almost stopped the show here cause Jenny was by far my favourite character😭😭😭 Took me a while to get over it.. Luckily a certain character arrived later and became my new no.1
Angel and angelus are different people sharing one body. Angelus, the soulless demon and angel, a demon with a soul. Also, the difference between spike and angel (both season 2 villains) is spike likes to fight and get stuck in, no messing around but angelus wants to play games and f**k with his enemy, just as he did to Drusilla before he turned her.
I like how Giles started the episode telling Buffy that she can't react emotionally and be a slave to her passions, and by the end of the episode he burned down a building on a suicide mission. Also a vampire giving a puppy the name "Sunshine" is hilarious.
I got curious, and looked it up. Canon is that Joyce was born in 1958. So she's like, 39, or 40 in the show at the moment. The actress is a few years older than that.
Re chris about angel: Angelus is psychotic, he doesnt get off on the kill as much as the torment and grief that it causes. He doesnt want to simply kill buffy, he wants to torment her & drive her absolutely insane by slowly torturing, killing, and removing everyone close to her while toying with her. It's a game.
Guys I found your channel since game of thrones so sometimes I'm confused when you don't get something but think is because you miss important dialogue and plot points. And that doesn't happen often when you watch other shows. But I'm glad you still enjoying it tho. This is when thing get more serious.
That’s how they treat every episode. Literally deep and emotional moments are funny to them because they love to see who can make the best jokes instead of investing in the storytelling and acting. Lol they’re like those annoying randos at the movies who makes loud one liners during intense moments. Specifically horror movies. I enjoy a few of their reactions but as much as I LOVE Buffy, this season might be all they get out of me in terms of their reactions. There are so many other amazing reactors who don’t treat the show like their own personal stand up comedy special while forgetting obvious plots and character developments.
This for me was the all-in point for BUFFY. Funny, dramatic, action, and so incredibly done. The weirdest thing for me was that Robia LaMorte (Jenny Calendar) converted to Christianity and condemned her own New Age practices after her time on Buffy.
If by "she caused this issue in the first place" you mean Angel turning, that's definitely not Ms. Calendar's fault. She's only at fault for lying, and trying to separate Buffy and Angel, which actually would have saved them from this situation.
The song playing in the Bronze is “Never an Easy Way” by Morcheeba, the show always had an awesome soundtrack. That’s still my favorite episode, Angelus is such good villain. Plus it’s hilarious that he’s such a petty asshole, cucking Spike and the constant wheelchair jokes. Seeing Giles go to town is so satisfying, still my favorite episode. Love the message edits, great meme choices.
Angelus takes time with his kills. It's an art for him. We already know that when he went after Drusilla he killed everyone she ever knew and drove her insane before even going after her herself. He's an artist of sorts. And people that draw his attention are an art project for him. It's what separates him from usual vampires who just kill to feed. It's not his vampire power that's terrifying it's the very human very serial killer-ish traits he has in his personality.
Fun fact: Angelus was originally supposed to kill Oz in this episode instead of Jenny, and Jenny would’ve died with her uncle a few episodes ago, but the cast and crew liked Seth Green so much they decide let him live and pushed Jenny back to this episode, which I think worked out for the best. This episode definitely is another ratcheting up of the shows quality and level of storytelling.
A little joking is fun but it was nonstop during this very dramatic episode. Especially with the sophomoric photo inserts instead of showing Angel's drawings. The tension was building all during this episode but you all missed it.
The next three episodes slow this momentum down a little, but they are fun! This all wraps up in the final two episodes...excited for y'all to get closer to one of my favorite seasons: Number 3!!!
Kind of annoying how they were talking and laughing over the saddest parts. I’ve been waiting soo long for them to react to this episode that I found it disappointing.
Yeah some people want them to react THEY react, but you kind of... can't do that? Lol. I was worried about Pat during Innocence, but the bottom line is that this episode convinced them all that Angelus can't be redeemed. Whatever "redemption" of him (a.k.a. becoming good again) there was is gone now. They like Jenny Calendar. Micky was in denial. They all get that Angel is someone who needs to go DOWN. They cheered Giles kicking his ass. The show did its job.
I feel like the constant jokes totally killed the vibe of the episode which is a shame. I know it's just something that happens when you watch things as a group so I can't blame you for it, but damn I was sorely disappointed by the reaction overall. Always difficult to maintain immersion in a group.
Yeah. Their best reactions are the funny episodes (like the previous one) and some monster of the week fillers. I don't think they take the show serious at all because of the "90's" vibe all over It, because it's an old show. I still like their reactions, but I wonder If they Will be like that for certain very dramatic episodes to come... Like The Body. And yes, the big group thing kinda ruins It, it would be better less people.
There's a DVD extra about this episode where Joss Whedon is asked about the death of Jenny, He said that he had Angel break her neck for two reasons: 1) so that there would be no question about whether or not she was ACTUALLY dead, and 2) it was a warning to other cast members that ANYONE was expendable lol
I have had a CPU catch fire before. Honestly, it over heated and caused smoke which melted something which sparked an electrical fire. That being said, it took much longer than that computer did on the show.
Principal: "Hello, I want to request a substitute tutor" Office: "sure, what school ? Principal: "Sunnydale" Office: *hangs up* Principal: "okay, brainy-nerdy kid, you're up..."
Right, the most you can say is that maybe she couldve been more forthright about who she was and about how the curse actually works. If she had never shown up, he still wouldve lost his soul by buffy.
Yeah it doesn't make sense, but I think people respond also to Jenny's guilt that she somehow caused it. Or was tormenting herself with the thought: "If I had told them, then somehow it would have gone differently..." Whether that makes sense or not.
My absolute favorite episode of Buffy. What an absolute bomb to the face. Giles over the head bat to Angel’s face had me SCREAMING when I first watched this. You all (except Pat) had the identical reaction to me and what I assume is everyone: “ANGEL HAS TO GO.” I was thirsty for blood at this point.
This episode was so heartbreaking to watch back in the day. And on re-watches as well. Here is where s*** hit the fan. The rest of the season is *cheff's kiss* (except for ONE episode).
Wow, Chris made an excellent point that I had forgotten I felt the same when first seeing the show. Probably because after watching it originally it was known as "THAT show" for me. Yes, I thought Giles' advice of "ignore him & he'll go away" was really bad. He's immortal, he's got nothing but time to fuck with Buffy. But yeah, that point is really hit home with poor Jenny. But this is also the first episode where they hit the emotions. The way Buffy talks Giles out of his suicide revenge mission is just the beginning of a lovely father/daughter relationship. And the description..."We hope Angel dies. We don't care if he gets a spinoff". Be careful what you wish for.....
When you get to season 4x1, you can start watching Angel, but watch them back to back of each other. Buffy 4x1, first, then angel 1x1, in that order, always. You'll see why.
I hope you're all planning on watching Angel's spin-off and Buffy in the exact order each episode came out, because if you don't, you'll be extremely confused. Trust me!
The Slayalive guide seems popular with reactors. Instead of strictly alternating, it will sometimes put two or three episodes of one series in a row so two-parters and certain small arcs don't get interrupted.
@@bhelliom3 How do you think Angel knew to show up on Thanksgiving in season 4? Or how do you think he got that medallion to give to Buffy in the finale?
@@jeannguyen3199 yeah I'm not a fan like you are so I'm not gonna try to defend how my 17 year old self just watched a show and enjoyed it without confusion.
It's interesting that there's a complete agreement that "he's got to go". The emotional reaction is of course understandable. But from an ethical perspective, it's not the same person at all. We might ask ourselves: If a friend was transported out of their body (getting back into which is their only chance to live), then the new tenant did something truly horrible and other people were out to off them - would we still think it's right to kill the body instead of trying to putting the original person back in?
Just my personal opinion but Pat's got to go from reactions. I just can't stand him and his comments. Especially as how the show goes on and the emotional moments. But I also think there's just too many people on the couch as well for these reactions that stuff is being talked over and missed. I've said before but this show would be great with just Suraj, Rana, and Nikki. Maybe because I enjoyed their Lost series so much and feel like they are really good about paying attention and feeling what's happening.
I like a lot of of the comments in the thread, but this is the only one that I will give a thumbs up to, so that it gets boosted to the top. Fuck that guy.
I couldn’t have said it better. I downvote content once in a blue moon, but this reaction video was the absolute worst. “Haha, OMG, Miss Calendar died? She was my favorite! Let’s make jokes!”
Before I even watch the full video, I just gotta say how much I smile when I see these reactions. Huge fan of the show, and it brings all kinds of nostalgic feels to watch you react to it, cheers!!! ☺️👍🏻
Why doesn't Angel just kill Buffy? This episode is all about answering that question. It usually takes a number of rewatches to get it. Angel, like everyone else is a slave to his passion, and his passion is Buffy. That's why he won't kill her. Vampires can't love because under all the makeup and lore, they are fundamentally just purely selfish beings. As such, all they get in the order of love is the negative aspects, like obsession. This entire episode explores that obsession, how Angel is like a cat and Buffy's the mouse he captured. He isn't going to kill her, he's wanting to play with her. It's Drucilla all over again. His plan is the cause her so much pain and kill everything she loves in this world, until she breaks. Then he can do his worst and turn her into him. The show comes across as light because it has so many comedy reliefs that distract from the real horror of the reality of vampires. Every so often though, they don't play off the harsh reality with a joke and you get a real glimpse of the real Buffyverse.
Is it sad that I was waiting for them to get to this one just as much as I had been waiting for _Innocence?_ Is it me or is it odd that Giles breaks up with Jenny because Buffy is mad at her and only starts patching things up when Buffy gives the OK that Giles "misses her." He can't make that decision on his own one way and/or the other? 😕 Unless a person considers the motel/hotel room their home it is just another public entrance, and while on that note Angelus always had entrance into the school, as it is also a public building (not a private residence), and was just messing with Jenny about the sign in Latin giving him an invite. Giles one scene before finding Jenny in his bed says he needs to disinvite Angelus from his house. We don't see the invite onscreen, though. I would respect Xander thinking Angelus needed to die (even while not agreeing with it) if he didn't say he hated Angel before Angel was Angelus and therefore everyone else should get on board. That tells me Xander was still talking from a place of jealousy and not from a look at all the horrible things Angelus has done place. If he brought up Angelus pulling him through Buffy's window and trying to turn him in the last episode I would get it, but explaining he hated Angel before he had a reason to and urging the idea of Giles getting killed through revenge doesn't make me see his opinion as clearly as he is trying to push it. Buffy punching Giles for trying to get himself killed makes me know Buffy didn't agree with Xander when she said he was right. She just knew what Xander wasn't thinking. Giles was going to die if he did it the way Xander was hoping for and the way Giles ended up doing it. Don't get me started on the Willow as a teacher storyline. 🙄 In-universe, I just assume the school authorities belong in jail. Drusilla, Angel, Angelus, and Giles have all already broke down why Angelus doesn't want to just murder Buffy. His idea of hurting people isn't about murder. Its about the slow punishments that will lead to being crazy in the same way Drusilla is. Thank you normies for expressing issues with Joyce and not having the talk with Buffy earlier. It plays into my theory of Joyce not paying much attention to Buffy before Buffy burned her previous high school gym down. Joyce is only, as of season one, learning how to parent. It's probably why she doesn't call the cops on Angel, who from her perspective is an age of consent human while Buffy is not (or why she is reading parenting books and learning how to say no in early S1).
I think I blocked out the talk with my mom. 😆 The only thing I remember is her asking me if I had any questions, and me wanting to get out of that room ASAP. I was pretty much like, "Nope! All good. Learned it all in school. Okay, byyyyyyeeeeee!"
I am honestly grateful that my school system included Sex Ed. as part of the fifth grade curriculum. I only recall Shame Talks with family growing up for the life of me. It's been pretty confusing in hindsight...

Very great point 🤔
This is just the beginning of Alyson Hannigan's non-Hollywood real-crying. Very sad to watch because she's so good at it.
One of my favorite episodes of season 2. This was a defining moment of the show.
The music in those last scenes still gets me every time.
R.I.P Jennifer Calendar - she was a good one. I remember my jaw dropping to the floor when Angelus snapped her neck 180. This episode 🔥🔥
7:57 "One-sided-conversation-havin'-ass, I understand you're mad but you coulda left that in a note." I died... many years agooo 🤣🤣🤣
Didn't know this was a comedy episode...
Seriously. At least two of these people need to shut the fuck up at least 50% more of the time, both of them guys.
Rana yelling "daddy" when Giles marched into the factory with murder on his face was all of us
This for me was the all-in point for BUFFY. Funny, dramatic, action, and so incredibly done.
The weirdest thing for me was that Robia LaMorte (Jenny Calendar) converted to Christianity and condemned her own New Age practices after her time on Buffy.
Yeah, that’s really sad
The scene when Giles finds Jenny is so sad 😢😢😢 possibly the saddest of the season aside from another scene later in the series…
Joss wheadon said that angelus snapping jenny’s neck is a sign of disrespect : like , i won’t even bother biting you …
Angelus takes time with his kills.
Surprise, Innocence and this episode is what turned the show from good to great.
Yea, Oz is such a great character
The way Micky is in denial. Same bro. 😭
There's always gotta be someone who's like "I knew it!" during a tense scene
A little joking is fun but it was nonstop during this very dramatic episode. Especially with the sophomoric photo inserts instead of showing Angel's drawings. The tension was building all during this episode but you all missed it.
They didn’t get it at all! 😢
Leave them alone!
The next three episodes slow this momentum down a little, but they are fun! This all wraps up in the final two episodes...excited for y'all to get closer to one of my favorite seasons: Number 3!!!
I disagree. 18 is alot of fun. Very creepy. 19 is one of my favorite episodes of the series. 20, Yeah okay lol
@@Cody92 Sure, but in terms of the story, the next three slow down their final interaction leading up to the finale 2-parter
Kind of annoying how they were talking and laughing over the saddest parts. I’ve been waiting soo long for them to react to this episode that I found it disappointing.
I love how emotional this episode was and how the scooby squad came together. fave reaction moments
"But he's funny".

I believe Joyce is 40-41 at this point in the show. She was born in '58 according to the wiki so she had Buffy pretty young.
Born in '55 according to IMDb.
SMG was born in '77

Kristine Sutherland, who plays Joyce, was 42 when this was filmed.
But Joyce was 39
I feel like the constant jokes totally killed the vibe of the episode which is a shame. I know it's just something that happens when you watch things as a group so I can't blame you for it, but damn I was sorely disappointed by the reaction overall. Always difficult to maintain immersion in a group.
To be frank it was awful, wasn't it? In fact the worst I've ever seen.
Thank you! Only a few people other than me have pointed this out, and most of them got steamrolled by hardcore Normies fans.
Perfect episode for a full couch. A full house for full force trauma
Too bad Suraj was missing.
so pat does have a line for villain's...puppy killings lol
I choose to believe that Sunshine made it out alive.
I have had a CPU catch fire before. Honestly, it over heated and caused smoke which melted something which sparked an electrical fire. That being said, it took much longer than that computer did on the show.
This episode really turns things. We see Angelus for what he is really about. RIP Ms. calendar.
And now ya'll should watch Moonlight. XD Its a 1 season tv show about a vampire private detective.
Guy has a oars and a boat and rowing all the way down denial. 😂
Principal: "Hello, I want to request a substitute tutor"
Office: "sure, what school ?
Principal: "Sunnydale"

Principal: "okay, brainy-nerdy kid, you're up..."
I don’t get why people are blaming Jenny for Angel loosing his soul
Right, the most you can say is that maybe she couldve been more forthright about who she was and about how the curse actually works. If she had never shown up, he still wouldve lost his soul by buffy.
Yeah it doesn't make sense, but I think people respond also to Jenny's guilt that she somehow caused it. Or was tormenting herself with the thought: "If I had told them, then somehow it would have gone differently..." Whether that makes sense or not.
I'm gonna be 97 by the time y'all finish this series. No one can quit before it's done. 😭
Man and the worst thing about Passion is that he tells Buffy earlier to just wait it out. Just brutal. The next couple episodes are great too.
Buffys mom, Joyce was 39 at this point in the show (canonically she was born in 1958).
I love how all if you turned on Angel. Lol
So wait....the Normies dont know that Whedon m.o. is "I kill people in my show"`?
Oh boy, the reactions in the Buffyverse are going to be goooood.
Never watched Angel and I was never confused watching Buffy, yet I see comments like these all the time.

Been with you guys for years, I've never felt as disappointed as I did today. Honestly I feel like there's something wrong with you people.
R.I.P. Jenny Calendar aka Janna. You'll be missed. 🌹🌹🌹

Mark 22:33. Since you didn't activate your, CC, I activated mine. It shows that you said, "Dental Calendar"! 😅😅😂
Is it sad that I was waiting for them to get to this one just as much as I had been waiting for _Innocence?_
Is it me or is it odd that Giles breaks up with Jenny because Buffy is mad at her and only starts patching things up when Buffy gives the OK that Giles "misses her." He can't make that decision on his own one way and/or the other? 😕
Unless a person considers the motel/hotel room their home it is just another public entrance, and while on that note Angelus always had entrance into the school, as it is also a public building (not a private residence), and was just messing with Jenny about the sign in Latin giving him an invite.
Nobody is safe in this show. Remember that.
WHOEVER PUT "THE GAME" IN THERE COUNT YOUR DAYS
I think I blocked out the talk with my mom. 😆 The only thing I remember is her asking me if I had any questions, and me wanting to get out of that room ASAP. I was pretty much like, "Nope! All good. Learned it all in school. Okay, byyyyyyeeeeee!"
I am honestly grateful that my school system included Sex Ed. as part of the fifth grade curriculum. I only recall Shame Talks with family growing up for the life of me. It's been pretty confusing in hindsight...
Joyce was born in 1958; she was 39 during season 1 of Buffy (1997). Buffy was born in 1981 and was 16.
