Thanks for the video and practice sheets. I'm making packets to go with our treats for my son's baseball team. Few of the players had cursive writing instruction in school. It was fun going through your google site handouts and getting to the scripture practice sheets. I love Proverbs 3:5.
Thank you for this video. I am homeschooling my 1st grader and it is very helpful to have a visual to teach her the letter formations. It is so important for our young people to learn cursive. All of America's historical documents are in cursive and if you don't learn it, how can you possibly enjoy our heritage for yourself! I have enjoyed reading Washington's letters and some our founding father's journals and so many other wonderful documents like these. I hope more people will take the initiative to teach their children this lost and dying art; even if Common Core Curriculum and some of these other curricular out there don't think it's important!
Ive never had very clean penmanship but over the past few years ive gotten compliments on how nice my regular writing was so ive wanted to get better at writing in cursive to try to get my writing looking more professional. Thanksfor the upload ill be viewing this and other videos as I keep trying to get better.
As much as I used to hate writing in cursive when I was a bit younger, now, being 16, I wish I could write like the writing on the Declaration of Independence! Schools just don't really care about it anymore.
GraywolfGaming Really? German elementary schools teach it to the students in year 3 and 4. Cursive wrinting helps children with spelling and, let's just call it "text awareness" (That means knowing/recognising where words end, hoe much space you need inbetween, etc). German cursive actually looks a little bit different than in the video but I think that is different from country to country.
Oh my gosh! You're so right about the school's just don't care anymore, my daughter and I were just arguing not long ago because she won't practice. She just turned 15 two months ago, I'm just learning that she doesn't know how to write in cursive and it broke my heart, she has the ordasity to talk back to me and get mad because I'm trying to help her, I've given her and her brother books when they were young children. All those years of schooling and it's a gosh damn shame she doesn't know this. The education system has deprived my children of their education
Thank you Madam for this video. I was having problem with cursive writing because I'm not from a english school back in my childhood. now I think I can confidently write cursive whenever I want to. I'm from Remote State of India.
Although I'm 25, I find incredibly hard to believe when my younger cousins (primary, middle school) tell me they have no clue what cursive writing even is. Cursive was so important when I was in primary school that, I believe is was in the 4th grade, everything we wrote had to be in cursive. It's such a beautiful way of writing and hope that future generations can appreciate it. :)
Your handwriting is beautiful. It almost too perfect! I starting writing everything in cursive because it was easier for me to have my hand glide across the paper then picking it up every time you write letter in print writing
Thanks for taking the time to publish this lesson. I have promised myself to start writing cursive from now on. I just love it. This video has encouraged me a lot. I clicked the link and already downloaded some worksheets. Thank you so much.
Thank you for this video! I really appreciate it! It has helped me refine my cursive writing since I have had no practice with it since elementary school!
Thank you for producing this video. I am SO thankful you have a passion for teaching this skill. I was so shocked when I first heard cursive writing isn't even being taught in schools any more. I remember being required to write a complete report in cursive handwriting in the sixth grade. Now texting and keyboarding seem to be more important. I've noticed many young people have a real interest in learning to write cursive though. It's like typewriters and film cameras. Everything is becoming increasingly more digital and they don't have the tactile experience of touching and handling the items. I gave a typewriter to a friend of mine who was teaching her daughter to spell and she loved it! She was so excited about touching the keys and watching the mechanical parts work on the typewriter. Maybe there's still hope left for beautiful handwriting?
if ur teacher has the same handwriting just remeber how do they look like and if its weird and its looks so odd just ask your teacher or look on each letter carefully like me and figure out what letter is it
Actually I am a Japanese making ends meet as a translator. And I have used cursive since I started learning English here in Japan back in 1988. Cursive writing has a lot of benefits over merely writing in block letters. While most people would feel it unnecessary to learn how to write the alphabet in cursive, we must keep it as an effective method to link our world to the past.
Bluejeans0701 I want to write a letter to a Japanese friend but I'm not sure if he will understand cursive. I feel more comfortable writing that way because that is how I was taught when I was a child.
Thanks a lot for your comment. It depends on the age of your friend whether he/she is able to comprehend cursive. Actually teaching cursive skills to the student was excluded from the curriculum of English taught at schools in Japan back in 1998. I started learning the language in 1988, when learning cursive was still mandatory. But few people would prefer cursive, though I am quite the opposite.
Thank you so much, I've always wanted learn how to write it properly and now I can practice by myself :) Thank you for sharing a Google drive link as well cheers :)
I'm really glad to see this kind of a support. You gives a correct idea to Technology. I'm really happy with this complete package including practice sheet. Thanks a lot. And Thanks again.
This is loads of help, thank you so much. This really helped me learn more cursive, im really great at this now. I didint know the proper way but y0yeah! This was loads of help! Thankssssss!!
I'm watching in 2015 but that doesn't matter. Thank you for this video it helped me a lot. Because I'm going to be in fifth grade and I didn't know cursive until this video tx.
With all that the school systems require teachers to do, I still think this is an important part of my lessons for my 3rd graders. It is difficult to fit it in, but the kids LOVE writing in cursive, so why not make some part of school FUN?! I will use this as part of my lessons in addition to me writing it on the smartboard, as well, so that I can walk around and see how the kids are writing and correct as necessary. Thank you!
having great experience with this video practiced through video now going to try the practice worksheets so I can be expert in it not immediately but defenetely
here in brazil the first way of writing that we learn is the cursive one, so I don't really need this video but I'm watching it anyway so i can make my handwriting look prettier! haha ♥️
I've heard a couple people say they can't read cursive recently and I wanted to see if there were good instructors on youtube...You're awesome! ...I went to catholic school in the 60's...I write with a combination of both now...:), Your lower case continuous line of letters reminded me of how the nuns drilled it in our heads and smacked our hands with rulers for poor penmanship...:)...Sister Mary Joseph would have given you a couple a smacks for that "b"... : D
Try writing a little faster when you are writing cursive and find a good qualtity ( probably finer tip like 0.4 ) ball point or ink pen. I know it will be hard seeing all the ink go to waste after you mess up when practicing but I think (my personal preference btw) it will be worthwhile :) These are what I did. Maybe it is just I'm born with this ability (I am used to seeing my dad's cursive handwriting) but I believe one day you will be able to write cursive beautifully :) Don't have to heed advice from a 12 year old okay? If you don't like my advice, its okay :)
I really interested in calligraphy etc but my handwriting normally slants to the left and I am right handed. I think this will make me learning cursive / calligraphy writing difficult...but hopefully with time I can change the way I write.

Knowing how to write and read cursive is truly a necessity in my opinion.

Marie C I learnt that in primary as well. And I'm 14. In Romania this is basically the norm. It's a shame you don't learn it in most schools.

I find it atrociously difficult to write in cursive because i'm left handed. I have a hard time printing my words as it is.
i can say the same thing to, but i am write handed when i write it it come out really sloppy.
Oliiva Croft If you are having a hard time, try beginning with a pencil which offers more control than a pen.
oh ok i will try that. but i think using pencil is bit better then useing pen..
+ajhare2 I know exactly how you feel.
yea
Bravo and thank you!!!
great lesson!
I wish i can do this... Hhmm.. But today is my day one to start my first ever cursive writing. Wish me luck till i become a pro. 😀😀😀

Hi there,
I have yet been writing cursive writing since i started writing in architectural style. what would you suggest for a past learner like me to tidy up the cursive writing. My current handwriting is mixing both cursive and archi writing ... very messy.
any comment will help from you ! thanks !
