It looks awesome but I can see your point about it being hard to see the bullets flying at you. It almost ruins an otherwise perfect game. Kind of disappointed but still buying it just for the graphics and music. I'm looking forward more to playing the sharp 68000 which I never played

hahaha I am waiting to see how many people pick up on that dig. You get that a lot with unboxing videos where they spend 75% of the video messing with the materials and just the last few minutes with some gameplay where they are hitting continue before the first stage is over. Like, did you maybe care to play it for a while and enjoy it first before showing it to people and recording?
@@ShmupJunkie You're right, so many guys phoning in these videos. You can see they almost resent having to do the show, it's eating into their valuable masturbation time but they need to get a video out this week to keep the money rolling in. One of the most heinous cases in recent years is Classic Game Room, which hurts me to say because I used to think that channel was so great.
@@thegreathadoken6808 I thought classic game room is long gone? I used to watch it too but not in a long time. I doubt any of these guys are making much money unless they’re the big channels with 100K subs. And you’re right I do see videos like that of low quality on those channels often too. Makes me wonder how and why they got popular and who watches them as I can’t.
My reply disappeared. It may or may not turn back up later. The gist of it was that he moved to Amazon, did his gaming stuff there. On YT he started doing these 'art' videos without so much as an explanation as to why, nor any kind of alternative access to the gaming stuff on Amazon such as Cinemassacre's staggered schedule so that TH-camr viewers could get into those videos eventually. And the art videos were cookie cutter level and not great.
I'm going to have fun with that one although I fear that's going to end up being another 2 week project haha. But it deserves it, R-Type has to be done right. Funny enough I was never amazing at any RType games, it's not the manic, twitch type shooter I am better at. But they just draw me in with the designs and atmosphere. They are one of the few slower paced methodical shmup series I actually enjoy.
Another superb, insightful review from the Junkie; I always appreciate your personal perspective and the work you put into these. Also, as eager as I (and others I'm sure) are to get that sweet, sweet R-Type overview, I actually want the Darius and Natsuki Chronicles reviews first.
If you haven't already, take my advice and get Natsuki Chronicles, shmup heaven, I paid next to nothing for it on steam. I'm a noob but can't find anything wrong with it.
Your redheaded friend sounds ready to join the Metal Jesus crew. All that's missing is "Happy to have this one in the collection." This looks great, but mainly for the previously unattainable X68000 version for me. I'm a little turned off by all of the giant multiplier numbers popping all over the screen as you alluded to here in the reboot with all of the screen clutter. One of my favorite parts of this series has always been the halloween flavor, especially in my personal favorite, Cotton 2. I'll likely pop for this one, though I have an absurd amount of preorders dangling out there at the moment.
Darn, I missed an opportunity to use that line, I may have to at some point lol. I am getting a lot of people saying they aren't fans of the crazy extra effects. The new arrange mode itself is honestly quite fun and they did a good job. If they toned down the flash it would still be a fun new game without it. But I agree at a minimum it's great to have the original 68K port and I am glad to have it. I think we all have a lot of preorders out there me included. Still waiting on that Toaplan collection to show up although there isn't anything new to review since it's more about the packaging. The games are the same ones we all know and love.
@@ShmupJunkie I passed on the Toaplan collection, though that packaging looks tremendous. I just already have the original carts, so it made more sense to spend elsewhere. I'm most excited about Clockwork Aquario right now, but I'd be thrilled if either of the two Neo Geo AES preorders (Kraut Buster and Xeno Crisis) shipped soon, since those preorders have been sitting for years now...

Thanks I appreciate that. That's what I am trying to do here. Entertainment and nostalgia mixed with good info and not just fluff. I think folks into shmups appreciate that as most channels don't understand them well enough to provide anything but superficial details. I love the original Cotton so it was a no brainer for me too. Especially never getting to play the Sharp original before. Been super pleased with this and Rock n Roll releases.

It’s also why as much as I want to support small outfits like them bringing us games we wouldn’t otherwise have I’m always hesitant as I don’t know if they’ll deliver on promises. i'd heard a lot about this reboot, cool to finally see the review! so both an updated HD reimagining and a nearly pixel-perfect port of the X68000 version in the same package? sign me the heck up! i'm not super well versed in the cotton games but the little bit i've played seemed fun enough. will have to track this one down one way or another I could use more shmups to use my hori fight stick mini on!
It's a pretty big deal to me as well that the original is on here. It's what first attracted me and that it would be a real port and not just emulated. I enjoyed the new mode too despite my couple gripes. I'm very happy I grabbed this one which isn't something I can say for some other lazy ports I ended up with.
Reboot is still a fantastic release and a must for any Cotton fans really. I love the original Sharp port. And along with the recent new Rock N Roll game, we got 2 new excellent Cotton games in the span of a year. I'm glad you found this and it helped!

I certainly will at some point, or more likely a combined video for the Cotton series as a whole. People seem to like those and I like doing that too. I would love to see future collections with more Cotton games on there if this one does well.

Just like how I was convinced to buy the Aleste Collection by your review, which by the way is one of my most played games of this year, I plan on pre-ordering the standard release of Cotton Reboot on the Nintendo Switch at Strictly Limited Games, as soon as this week! The soundtrack and the visuals are just top notch and it looks so much fun to play! It'll be my first time playing any of the Cotton games, and I couldn't be any more excited than I already am!
I'm so stoked to hear you're enjoying the Aleste Collection so much on my recommendation. I absolutely love the new GG3 and overall it's such a great package. Cotton is also a really fun game, at least the original is to me, and I think once you figure out the complex mechanics it becomes a lot more fun to play. The Arrange mode is beautiful and fun and only needs a bit of tweaking imo for bullet visibility and toning down the effects, but I enjoyed it just the same. But the actual port work is so good and the performance excellent, so I can't not support that kind of effort.

Knocked it out of the park again my man, finally got my copy of this on Friday. By far the jewel in the crown for me is the X68000 version. Old shooters are my thing and boy what a treat!
It’s an awesome port isn’t it? I really enjoy the original too. Now this and the pc engine version are the two I’ll play most. I prefer both to the arcade.
I do hope you get it soon and the wait isn't too painful. I know many have shipped but some have not. Don't think you'll be disappointed they did a great job on this release. So I'm glad I could show that off in the video.
"lords of thunder" bruh, now you're speaking my language. I played the HELL out of that on the sega cd. Cotton reboot had my attention, now it has my interest.
Been speaking the language of the thunder lord since 1993 haha. Still have my original Turbo copy that I owned back then and could never sell it. The Reboot is a solid release, especially with both games on there and I'm glad I got mine. Not often these days we get a brand new game of an old series. And just today they announced another new one called Cotton Rock n Roll or something like that, coming in December.
Nice review, as always. And you are absolutely right about the flashy bonuses, in a shmup, player, enemies and bullets/fire should have the highest priority in the depth or visual layer. If they couldn't turn off those huge numbers, at least they should make them appear under important elements. Shmups have such strict depth hierarchy, that even big bullets and lasers shouldn't cover smaller ones.
Thank you. To your credit, I never had that problem in your game. It was always easy to see everything and although it was visually interesting and flashy it didn't go excessive like here. I still really enjoyed this game, but yes it would have been nice to disable or tone down some of it as an option. That way the developers can create what they like but give the option to disable some of it. The actual player shot is also very bright and large so it tends to cover bullets as well at times.
I only found your channel recently, but it's quickly become one of my favourite channels on TH-cam and has helped reignite my love for shmups. I'm still sh*te at them though!
Most of us are shite at them until we practice quite a bit, we only get better and faster at being less shite after several attempts lol. I'm really glad you did find me though and hope you enjoy some of my other stuff. I did a couple Shooter 101 videos a while back that may have a thing or two to help one be just slightly less shite more quickly. No promises though! 😂

That’s not a bad idea. I got my wife the Switch initially to play Zelda long ago not expecting to use it nearly as much myself. But it became such an amazing platform for retro releases and shmups, having just one isn’t enough to go around. Now you two can play coop or online and not have to fight over using one haha. I’m glad the vid helped you find out about this game. Big outlets don’t really cover shmups well so lots of folks won’t know this exists anytime soon.
@@ShmupJunkie oh i grew up playing the best arcade and console shoot em' ups, some of the best were made on the genesis, sega cd, and the PS1/saturn. Always been a huge technosoft fan, god knows i miss them smj. I just watched a video on here about the 21 best switch games, its easy to see why the switch has the best games period. So much diversity, and creativity from nintendo and their 3rd party developers. I really look forward to playing mario 3d world + bowser's fury with my girlfriend, im also hoping to snag that monster hunter rise switch bundle
@@derekbuckler3859 Last coop game I played with the wife was Luigis Mansion 3. That was another fun one doing together where both players are equally involved and cooperating together. It was fun finding all the secrets there.
They should add an option to turn off the on screen score multiplayer images in a patch. Or an option to make them smaller or more transparent. Then the arranged game mode would be perfect.
I’d very much like to see that too. Your actual shot can sometimes also take priority over bullets so they can take another look at that as well. Anything that obscures the art and bullets less would help. It’s the only complaint I had aside from some stage selection being unlockable. I otherwise really enjoyed it.
My god, it’s so awesome that some companies give a hoot enough to legitimately port a game, even after they went so hard on making the new version. Thanks for the awesome vid!

Yeah Reboot has been out for a long time. It was my first Cotton video! They even made another new game since called Rock n Roll (Fantasy in the US) which SLG has for pre-order/sale too. Both are excellent. Only the Saturn tribute collection was a bit middling in terms of quality and emulation. Reboot though is super cool.
I don't know what I've done to the settings, but on my steam version of this when I go on the X6800 version everything is firing little home-seeking bullets at me...it's a hard enough game as it is? Have tried putting settings back to default but it still keeps happening, it's more like a bullet hell now... I am stumped. Love this game and can't play now.
That sounds like the extra hard mode in the settings for the 68K version to me. They fire suicide bullets when they die. If it’s not set past normal difficulty I wonder if it’s a bug in the Steam port. Maybe report it as a bug so the dev can look at it.
Enjoy it! I'm a big fan of the original Cotton game and I think the Sharp version was excellent. Really enjoyed the Reboot/Remake too. Although I will always go back to the PC Engine version too for that awesome soundtrack.
So excited for my eventual copy to show up ... hope they do actually provide a patch or option to turn off the multipliers or make them black/white or something :)
I was on the fence with this one as I never liked the cute em up aesthetic..... but after playing some Cotton Boomerang and Sexy Parodius for the first time in the past few weeks I've absolutely changed my mind. Just preordered the next Switch release for this! Your videos are killin my bank account 🤣🤣
Lol, well that's why I just did the Best Free Shmups video to give everyone a break from the wallet busters. When cute em ups are done for comedy like Parodius and not just simply to be cartoony it adds a lot of personality to the game. The original Cotton wasn't even really a cute em up, but you can see the later games get away from that darker vibe.

Don't sell your opinion short, there is absolutely no reason what so ever they can't add an option so all the gloss doesn't cover up so much so we can all still enjoy the backgrounds/atmosphere. I can't imagine a designer being happy that so many people lose lives just because there's a bunch of flashing lights and score taking up the screen. Can you imagine that for other genres? More people would call that shit out.
I’ve looked at some other games by this developer and it seems to be an aesthetic preference for them. Almost their style and they like doing it. Trouble Witches does it too. I can’t say they’re the only ones either as it’s really common in vertical bullet hell games and Cave. But they implement it better where it never obscures them bullets at least and what you need to see. Here the bullet priority needs some work. It also just happens the art and backgrounds here are cool so I like enjoying it vs another game where it’s not much to see anyway. On the bright side they just released two new characters you can play as I’m going to try.

I actually snatched that let's go moment from my first Cotton preview video a couple months back, where I did a silly intro sequence with Timmy gorging on candy while playing Cotton and making a mess in the gameroom. If you haven't seen it yet the first 2min of the video may give you a laugh. I liked that candy throw sequence so I re-used it here haha.
I believe removing the English text was solely a move to get punters buying the Strictly Limited version. The remake looks pretty but all the stuff on screen seemed really off putting. I will probably still pick this up on ps4 specifically for the x68000 version which looks great.
The 68K version is outstanding and a great port. It's the main reason I was first excited about this release. I was pleasantly surprised by how much fun the arrange mode turned out to be, but I am on that side of the coin too. I like nice graphics but prefer the effects not obscure them.
I just bought today a physical copy of this game for my recently aquired Switch, and so far, I have been really enjoying this game! Easy to pick and with mechanics and online leaderboards that push you to play more and improve your high scores. Great reccomendation @Junkie and the first of my Switch shooters collection. Reboot was a fantastic release and I wish they had done the same justice to the recent Saturn ports. Can't win them all I guess. But I'm glad you got and are enjoying this one. It's my favorite of the lot so far as well.

Heck yeah the OG Cotton always had rad tunes. You should hear the PC Engine CD remixes of it, they're awesome. I did a Cotton preview video a while before this one comparing all the different versions and had a good segment for it.
I don't think Timmy could handle the Dreamcast shmups.... even I am going to need extra jars of butt paste like what happened with the PS1 haha. Ikaruga and Mars Matrix are primed and ready to lay the smack down. That video could take some time haha. I always suck at Ikaruga when I haven't played it in a long time.
I don't think the boxed editions are shipping just yet in English at least, but they should still be available. If you like Cotton than just having the Sharp port is nice and the new game is like the bonus for me. I will say the box set is really well made and quality, not a high price for skimpy materials. I miss the manuals and magazines that had the stage layouts like that, it's a nice touch.

@@mikuneverdies6288 If you’re not a collector and want the pc engine Cotton, I mentioned it in the vid. Search up Cotton dark city productions. $35 and its a great fan made CD. I have one too. If you want to play the Sharp 68k version then of course Reboot is the best way to do it. If you are collecting and want the real PCE game the best deals are on Facebook collector groups. eBay tends to be overpriced from the fees they charge. I’m not a fan of the super easy PS1 port but it’s actually really good for anyone that doesn’t play these games much, as regular Cotton isn’t an easy game. Check out my other Cotton preview video. I show all the different versions and compare them. If you’re looking for the older games that video is very useful.
I just want to state for the record that Im on Team Use Teacup (or in my case teaset as well lol). Im so excited for my copy. Here’s hoping they port Cotton 2 and/or Panorama. And those get cups too. Also gotta look into this Trouble Witches. If it’s anything like Trouble Shooter, Im gonna have a really good time with it
I don't think Trouble Witches is like trouble shooter aside from the name, it's actually similar to this Cotton Arrange mode. But I think most will enjoy it, it's just a fun game. I just told Timmy you collect teacups and have enough for a full set, and he's eager to set up a play date 😅 I don't let him stray far without a sippy cup though he makes quite a mess
Excellent video Sensei, I am looking forward to the arrival of both my Cotton and Darius pre-orders. I am hoping that in time, a re-release of Super Aleste, M.U.S.H.A and Robo Aleste will happen. That would be a heck of a combo.
I'm sure M2 knows it would do well and will as long as they have the rights... which I thought they do for Aleste. I believe they plan on focusing on the MSX games Aleste 2 and Gaiden next from something I read, but it's still early. I hope you get your Cotton and Darius soon. I'll be opening up my Darius soon enough to mess with it as it arrived a few days ago.
I got the english asian version off play asia but there isn't a option for english in the game which is disappointing, but i'm still really enjoying the game it's a lot of fun. Great review

Yes a manual is very helpful in this game especially. It may not be the super large one as it wouldn't fit into a Switch case, but as long as it contains a lot of the important info it will be worth it. The game has a great tutorial as well as long as you get it in English.

At least you got an English version coming, if it's from Play Asia they are usually pretty good with their ship dates unless the game gets delayed. I’ve got my fingers crossed it comes out really well too. I loved Delta but the first Final wasn’t necessarily my favorite. So I’m hoping with all the talent working on Final 2 it’ll be an even better, improved version of the first. I know others who really loved Final though.
@@ShmupJunkie yeah tbh I also loved delta. Haven't actually sunk a lot of time into final. I do plan on running through each of the r-type games soon in preparation for final 2. So far it looks promising for sure.
This is a really fun video to watch; I'm glad you took the chance to not only go over the game's modes, but also how the Arrange's scoring works. I am really looking forward to trying out the x68000 version; I never really liked how it worked out in my emulator back in the day. I've been a big fan of the series from my PCE copy and the Saturn sequel (never got Boomerang), so I know I'll be deep diving into this once my copy finally arrives.
You definitely should have no issues with the port quality compared to your emulator, it's fantastic. And you already know the game and what to expect. I love my PCE version to it's my fav to play, but the Sharp port definitely cranks it up a notch with the visuals. The arrange scoring definitely has a lot of depth and ways to improve from what I can tell... only the massive flashing bonuses got kind of annoying. But it's definitely much deeper in terms of high score vs the original far as I can tell.
Trouble Witch girl was included in the actual X68000 version Beep released a year ago. Seems like she might be an exclusive for owners of the real machine.
I could swear in a preview video, they showed a section with that character playable and they mentioned it. I am still thinking it gets added on unless they decided to cut it.
I’ve been wanting to see how the Astro mini version is. I heard it’s difficulty setting is fixed so was curious how it felt vs the default arcade setting.

Same here, got mine from Amazon jp and it came very quickly. I am working on Natsuki at the moment, but Darius is coming up to. I've heard good things on the M2 G Darius part and mixed things on the Burst part, but I will find out once I can dig into it myself. Luckily if that turns out to be the case, they are selling each one separately digitally too.

Nice, I completely agree with your comment that the screen can become a bit busy and hard to see bullets and enemies in the Reboot. I was wondering about that in the first few minutes of the video. As you have mentioned yourself, even if I appreciate the Reboot, my biggest selling point here is the X68k version, no questions about that. But the prices for all those Special Editions are getting a little oppressive, at least for me. This will probably be a digital purchase on sale for me, even though I'd LOVE to have those physical goodies. Oh well. Let's see the new R-Type =)
Yes the box sets and limited stuff is for collectors. And they know collectors will pay, so it's priced accordingly. It helps them make more money back on the project too. As long as the basic game and download is reasonable I'm happy. Speaking of which I'm not sure exactly what the digital only price is. I would imagine around $40 but I haven't looked. RType is gonna happen. I just wish they would get me an early build to review for everyone and post when it releases.
Stellar review dude. I tried out silk after beating the game, haven’t used her more than like 5 mins though haha. I’m ready to run through the original one too now. I actually did not update my game so it’s still in English. There was also an newly listed Asian release on play Asia with (English) in the title.
Thanks dude. Yeah Play Asia has it in English too. It may not be the box set with materials in English but the game should still be. And it's shipping pretty soon. Silk is pretty powerful imo she has a wide shot and is fast... if you like fast characters. I'm glad you had fun with it so far it's a cool game. Enjoy the original as it's really good too and not quite as forgiving imo, but there is the beep ed. mode they added in difficulty which I think is like normal, but you get more or unlimited continues vs regular which they are limited.

If you’re gonna play a Cotton game it’s a good place to start dude. But then you do have that pc engine... any chance one of the burned games was Cotton? It’s got a killer soundtrack. Though this Sharp version really is great and the looker of the bunch.
Dude, you wearing that wig is friggin hilarious, haha. So I'm loving this video from what I've seen so far but I'm wondering, would the ps4 version have better performance than the switch? I'm debating which strictly limited version to get.
To be honest the Switch performance is already so good at under 3 frames it makes no difference. Sure the PS4 may be even a bit faster, but at this level, you are best off getting the system you like using most and playing on. Switch has the benefit of portability and resale value usually. This is one case where you can't really go wrong either way. I never tested the PS4 since I don't have that version, but I imagine it has to be as good as on Switch or better.
Strictly limited is a pain in the ass... i have ordered sister royale and i have asked a full refound cause after months where passed, and no packages delivered
Man, sorry for a 3rd comment but I'm commenting as I watch the video. I noticed you mentioned Trouble Witches. I love that game on the 360. I hope that game gets ported to the Switch.
If you love trouble witches you'll certainly love this Arrange mode, you can tell it has similar DNA. Anyone who enjoys those really will this game too. I'd like to see that happen as well on Switch and if it does I will make a point to give it a proper video to help get the word out.
I can safely say I have managed to dodge a teabagging of any kind , so far. "Struggling to make sense of what's what" is the same issue I have with modern bullet hells. I like to see and appreciate the stage design and atmosphere of a game.
Playing Halo multiplayer was the last time for me and unfortunately I had to take one with extreme prejudice 😅 Some bullet hell like Crimson Clover and many Cave games do it extremely well where you always see it all clearly. It takes talented programming to get it just right. Mushihimesama Futari is one of my fav because somehow you still see the beautiful stages and designs despite the screens full of bullets.
I never heard of Beep before but I will be on the lookout now. I'm impressed. The whole thing oozes with passion. The packaging is quality, the port is top notch, and the arrange mode is well crafted. I wouldn't be surprised if we get a patch addressing some of the problems you raised, Beep appears to give a shit.
At a minimum I expect to see the bullet visibility improved and those features added. As for the big bonuses etc. I think it's just their style so I can see it being left alone. As a developer you have to go with what speaks to you. But I agree I am pretty thrilled with the overall package and would love to see much more of it.
@@ShmupJunkie . I was thinking about the same. If they patch anything it's probably going to be how the high scores relate to continues. Beep probably just made a mistake there. I wouldn't be surprised if the lack of stage select is intentional. From what I've gathered the Japanese community is less fond of save states and stage select options and also from what I've heard the game is not very difficult. Beep might not patch in a stage select for creative reasons.
When you mean it’s coming out west, do you mean the strictly limited version or a “retail” release? I’ll get this game eventually, so I wanna know if it’s just strictly limited/Japan copies, or retail coming soon. Great vid as always, you’re the reason why I have a pc engine, a bunch of shmups on my switch, and why I’m arguing with random people online that I’m convinced that big channels like the Avgn don’t even play most games (well with the Avgn it’s more so his new stuff). He covered the Taito legends collection and for most of the shmups he said “they’re alright I guess” even though I’ve played those some of the ones he covered like metal black and thought they were amazing.
I meant Strictly Limited as I think that's the most we will get as far as official releases. So pre-ordering from them, or the English copy from Play Asia for just the basic game is the way to go. It may still be a month or two before SL releases their box sets as it always takes some time. As long as that nice manual and extras are all done in English it will be worth a bit of a wait. I would expect a digital US release at some point too once the physical games ship.
Fantastic video! The first video of yours I've seen, with a special recommendation from Shmups on Switch. I also love the intro. Nice to see someone pointing out the stupidity of special editions with pointless crap that you aren't even going to use. Everything else was incredibly informative. I'm glad you found me! This was the second Cotton video I'd done after the first one comparing all the original versions against each other and what made them unique including the 68K port. Did you know they just announced yet another new Cotton game called Rock n Roll... completely new coming in December this year. Unrelated to the Cotton collection with the two Saturn games coming later this year. BEEP is tripling down on the franchise. I think a collection of the couple Keio games and maybe even an update would be cool I'm just not sure who owns the IP on those.
@@ShmupJunkie No, I didn't know that, but definitely interested. Glad the Satrun ones are coming too, as they're going for insane prices now. I bought a sold them a few times in the past (I used to be a shmup seller on ebay, since I live in Japan), but the prices now are just outrageous! Got a normal copy of reboot, but still playing through a few other switch shmups before I give this one a whirl.
Yes the Saturn versions came later, they were basically the sequels. The original was mostly arcade but then ported really well to PC Engine and also to the Sharp which is what's in this collection. I always did want to play the Sharp port since it was upgraded and also changed up. So I was really stoked for this collection and it having the original Sharp version on there.

Nice review. I got my copy earlier on this week and I'm absolutely loving it. I was lucky enough to play through it first in English before installing the update. Tried to uninstall and reboot but no it won't give you the option to start game without the update. Looking forward to the darius review.
My take away too, the new arrange mode is a heck of a lot of fun. So far the news on Darius is mixed. The M2 port of G is great but lacks some practice features I would’ve liked. But the Burst release is pretty bare bones by comparison and almost beat enjoyed on the existing Steam release. Luckily you can buy them separately and not drop more on the pack. It’ll be an interesting one to look at.

Nice review make i have been playing the game for 2 days and i agree with all the scoring going on it hides the bullets you just die at times and you cant see whats hits you also the warning message on the bosses also hides the bullets, They really need to change the bullet colour and highlight them more apart from that its a nice looking fun game and the inclusion of the sharp version, caravan mode and online rankings its a nice package just hope they do an update to fix the bullet issues.
I don't know how easy it would be to fix, but it would definitely be a great patch and the first thing. Aside from not having any stage select and the score not resetting. Those are probably easier to fix. Bullet visibility isn't the easiest thing to pull off. If you ever notice a patch that improves it let me know, in case I miss it.
@@ShmupJunkie will do mate but I think pink flashing bullets may do it they need to do something as randomly getting hit by invisible bullets is a little off putting to what is a really nice game and if the add the features you mention could be a really nice package.
Not much into shmups, but I caught this video cause it looks like a cute game. It would have been nice if they had added like, an in-between mode, of having the more classic gameplay, but with the modern graphics, so we could have the best of both worlds. Great video, btw! It was fun even for someone who's only shmup I have played for more than 5 minutes is Jamestown ^^;
I'm glad you liked it and interesting that you mention Jamestown, as it's known as a very beginner friendly game and a good entry point for anyone that wants to try playing shmups. I have been meaning to play it myself since I've heard so many good things about it.
It’s possible to emulate it that’s how I did my first preview video and played it, but it definitely can be a pain to get working. It’s a fantastic port job so I can’t not recommend it if you really like the series.
I totally forgot about this game. I was looking forward to the PC release but it took too long and I just forgot about it until now. Imma get this this soon.... I am really enjoying the colorful graphic.
Lots of people are getting their copies of Reboot right now so that’s great to hear. Took a while but finally the US versions are arriving. I’m a fan of the artwork here too.
I can confirm it works, just make sure you have a good romset as some don't want to boot or get stuck on the intro loading screen. It does take a minute or two to boot from that screen so be patient. You'll dig it!
I can guarantee I have no plans to try and 1CC every one of them lol, I don't have all year to make this thing. I'm looking forward to it also it's going to be a fun video.

The original Sharp version is a lot of fun and has complex mechanics for a shooter. It does not loop like Gradius though. You have to keep choosing higher difficulty it’s the only way to play again. But it does play very much like an old school shooter. The new arrange mode is very very different nothing like a Gradius game though.
Interesting shmup, might get it if it comes on PC at some point. Noticed the Trouble Witches game you mentioned has a PC version so I might check that too.
It was supposed to get a PC release but never did, it got cancelled. Not sure why. I'd like to see it on Steam one day too. The english versions haven't even shipped yet.
it's not just you, the size of projectiles is ridiculously overblown, it would be so much clearer and more readable if the particles were just more thin and / or transparent, it's not like transparency is not an option nowadays.. :D

You get that a lot with unboxing videos where they spend 75% of the video messing with the materials and just the last few minutes with some gameplay where they are hitting continue before the first stage is over. Like, did you maybe care to play it for a while and enjoy it first before showing it to people and recording?

One of the most heinous cases in recent years is Classic Game Room, which hurts me to say because I used to think that channel was so great.

I doubt any of these guys are making much money unless they’re the big channels with 100K subs. And you’re right I do see videos like that of low quality on those channels often too. The gist of it was that he moved to Amazon, did his gaming stuff there. On YT he started doing these 'art' videos without so much as an explanation as to why, nor any kind of alternative access to the gaming stuff on Amazon such as Cinemassacre's staggered schedule so that TH-camr viewers could get into those videos eventually.
And the art videos were cookie cutter level and not great.
I felt personally attacked and watched the rest of the video out of spite.
An R-Type history video from your perspective would be great.
I'm going to have fun with that one although I fear that's going to end up being another 2 week project haha. But it deserves it, R-Type has to be done right. Funny enough I was never amazing at any RType games, it's not the manic, twitch type shooter I am better at. But they just draw me in with the designs and atmosphere. They are one of the few slower paced methodical shmup series I actually enjoy.

This looks great, but mainly for the previously unattainable X68000 version for me. I'm a little turned off by all of the giant multiplier numbers popping all over the screen as you alluded to here in the reboot with all of the screen clutter. One of my favorite parts of this series has always been the halloween flavor, especially in my personal favorite, Cotton 2. I'll likely pop for this one, though I have an absurd amount of preorders dangling out there at the moment.
Darn, I missed an opportunity to use that line, I may have to at some point lol. I am getting a lot of people saying they aren't fans of the crazy extra effects. The new arrange mode itself is honestly quite fun and they did a good job. If they toned down the flash it would still be a fun new game without it. But I agree at a minimum it's great to have the original 68K port and I am glad to have it. I think we all have a lot of preorders out there me included. Still waiting on that Toaplan collection to show up although there isn't anything new to review since it's more about the packaging. The games are the same ones we all know and love.
@@ShmupJunkie I passed on the Toaplan collection, though that packaging looks tremendous. I just already have the original carts, so it made more sense to spend elsewhere. I'm most excited about Clockwork Aquario right now, but I'd be thrilled if either of the two Neo Geo AES preorders (Kraut Buster and Xeno Crisis) shipped soon, since those preorders have been sitting for years now...

i'd heard a lot about this reboot, cool to finally see the review! so both an updated HD reimagining and a nearly pixel-perfect port of the X68000 version in the same package? sign me the heck up! i'm not super well versed in the cotton games but the little bit i've played seemed fun enough. will have to track this one down one way or another I could use more shmups to use my hori fight stick mini on!
It's a pretty big deal to me as well that the original is on here. It's what first attracted me and that it would be a real port and not just emulated. I enjoyed the new mode too despite my couple gripes. I'm very happy I grabbed this one which isn't something I can say for some other lazy ports I ended up with.

Reboot is still a fantastic release and a must for any Cotton fans really. I love the original Sharp port. And along with the recent new Rock N Roll game, we got 2 new excellent Cotton games in the span of a year. I'm glad you found this and it helped!
Man, your reviews and videos are so well detailed and full of awesome presentation. Please man do reviews of Cotton 2, Cotton Boomerang and Rainbow Cotton. If anyone could do those games justice on a Video Review, it's you mate.
I certainly will at some point, or more likely a combined video for the Cotton series as a whole. People seem to like those and I like doing that too. I would love to see future collections with more Cotton games on there if this one does well.

Just like how I was convinced to buy the Aleste Collection by your review, which by the way is one of my most played games of this year, I plan on pre-ordering the standard release of Cotton Reboot on the Nintendo Switch at Strictly Limited Games, as soon as this week! The soundtrack and the visuals are just top notch and it looks so much fun to play! It'll be my first time playing any of the Cotton games, and I couldn't be any more excited than I already am!
I'm so stoked to hear you're enjoying the Aleste Collection so much on my recommendation. I absolutely love the new GG3 and overall it's such a great package. Cotton is also a really fun game, at least the original is to me, and I think once you figure out the complex mechanics it becomes a lot more fun to play. The Arrange mode is beautiful and fun and only needs a bit of tweaking imo for bullet visibility and toning down the effects, but I enjoyed it just the same. But the actual port work is so good and the performance excellent, so I can't not support that kind of effort.
Love the hell out of this game i seen on gematsu they are making Cotton Reboot High Tension and Cotton Fantasy 2 instant purchases for me a lot of awesome shoot em ups are releasing this year Soldner X Complete Collection and Under Defeat HD Triggerheart Exelica released a few weeks ago one of my favorite games love how you can grab ships and launch them at other enemies
Knocked it out of the park again my man, finally got my copy of this on Friday. By far the jewel in the crown for me is the X68000 version. Old shooters are my thing and boy what a treat!

bruh, now you're speaking my language. I played the HELL out of that on the sega cd.
Cotton reboot had my attention, now it has my interest.
Been speaking the language of the thunder lord since 1993 haha. Still have my original Turbo copy that I owned back then and could never sell it. The Reboot is a solid release, especially with both games on there and I'm glad I got mine. Not often these days we get a brand new game of an old series. And just today they announced another new one called Cotton Rock n Roll or something like that, coming in December.
Nice review, as always. And you are absolutely right about the flashy bonuses, in a shmup, player, enemies and bullets/fire should have the highest priority in the depth or visual layer. If they couldn't turn off those huge numbers, at least they should make them appear under important elements. Shmups have such strict depth hierarchy, that even big bullets and lasers shouldn't cover smaller ones.
Thank you. To your credit, I never had that problem in your game. It was always easy to see everything and although it was visually interesting and flashy it didn't go excessive like here. I still really enjoyed this game, but yes it would have been nice to disable or tone down some of it as an option. That way the developers can create what they like but give the option to disable some of it. The actual player shot is also very bright and large so it tends to cover bullets as well at times.
Shame there is no replay system for this release, I'd love to see some of the japanese runs that will crush the score system in arrange :-)
Yeah we got spoiled with M2 releases having that, I really like being able to watch some top gameplay vs being limited to what is posted on youtube.

Most of us are shite at them until we practice quite a bit, we only get better and faster at being less shite after several attempts lol. I'm really glad you did find me though and hope you enjoy some of my other stuff. I did a couple Shooter 101 videos a while back that may have a thing or two to help one be just slightly less shite more quickly. No promises though! 😂

That’s not a bad idea. I got my wife the Switch initially to play Zelda long ago not expecting to use it nearly as much myself. But it became such an amazing platform for retro releases and shmups, having just one isn’t enough to go around. Now you two can play coop or online and not have to fight over using one haha. I’m glad the vid helped you find out about this game. Big outlets don’t really cover shmups well so lots of folks won’t know this exists anytime soon.

Always been a huge technosoft fan, god knows i miss them smj. I just watched a video on here about the 21 best switch games, its easy to see why the switch has the best games period. So much diversity, and creativity from nintendo and their 3rd party developers. I really look forward to playing mario 3d world + bowser's fury with my girlfriend, im also hoping to snag that monster hunter rise switch bundle
@@derekbuckler3859 Last coop game I played with the wife was Luigis Mansion 3. That was another fun one doing together where both players are equally involved and cooperating together. It was fun finding all the secrets there.
They should add an option to turn off the on screen score multiplayer images in a patch. Or an option to make them smaller or more transparent. Then the arranged game mode would be perfect.
I’d very much like to see that too. Your actual shot can sometimes also take priority over bullets so they can take another look at that as well. Anything that obscures the art and bullets less would help. It’s the only complaint I had aside from some stage selection being unlockable. I otherwise really enjoyed it.
I just picked this up at GameStop can’t wait to get into it. I loved Cotton fantasy on switch so this seems like another great time 😁

100% agree and it's the kind of ports and games I will hype the most as I want to see more of them. I want their product to sell well so the good ones survive and continue to make more for us. This port work was outstanding!

Yeah Reboot has been out for a long time. It was my first Cotton video! They even made another new game since called Rock n Roll (Fantasy in the US) which SLG has for pre-order/sale too. Both are excellent. Only the Saturn tribute collection was a bit middling in terms of quality and emulation. Reboot though is super cool.

I don't know what I've done to the settings, but on my steam version of this when I go on the X6800 version everything is firing little home-seeking bullets at me...it's a hard enough game as it is? Have tried putting settings back to default but it still keeps happening, it's more like a bullet hell now... I am stumped. Love this game and can't play now.
That sounds like the extra hard mode in the settings for the 68K version to me. They fire suicide bullets when they die. If it’s not set past normal difficulty I wonder if it’s a bug in the Steam port. Maybe report it as a bug so the dev can look at it.
When you compared it to Lords of Thunder... I was sold. I'm getting it now.
Enjoy it! I'm a big fan of the original Cotton game and I think the Sharp version was excellent. Really enjoyed the Reboot/Remake too. Although I will always go back to the PC Engine version too for that awesome soundtrack.
So excited for my eventual copy to show up ... hope they do actually provide a patch or option to turn off the multipliers or make them black/white or something :)

I was on the fence with this one as I never liked the cute em up aesthetic..... but after playing some Cotton Boomerang and Sexy Parodius for the first time in the past few weeks I've absolutely changed my mind.

Lol, well that's why I just did the Best Free Shmups video to give everyone a break from the wallet busters. When cute em ups are done for comedy like Parodius and not just simply to be cartoony it adds a lot of personality to the game. The original Cotton wasn't even really a cute em up, but you can see the later games get away from that darker vibe.

Don't sell your opinion short, there is absolutely no reason what so ever they can't add an option so all the gloss doesn't cover up so much so we can all still enjoy the backgrounds/atmosphere. I can't imagine a designer being happy that so many people lose lives just because there's a bunch of flashing lights and score taking up the screen. Can you imagine that for other genres? More people would call that shit out.
I’ve looked at some other games by this developer and it seems to be an aesthetic preference for them. Almost their style and they like doing it. Trouble Witches does it too. I can’t say they’re the only ones either as it’s really common in vertical bullet hell games and Cave. But they implement it better where it never obscures them bullets at least and what you need to see. Here the bullet priority needs some work. It also just happens the art and backgrounds here are cool so I like enjoying it vs another game where it’s not much to see anyway. On the bright side they just released two new characters you can play as I’m going to try.

I actually snatched that let's go moment from my first Cotton preview video a couple months back, where I did a silly intro sequence with Timmy gorging on candy while playing Cotton and making a mess in the gameroom. If you haven't seen it yet the first 2min of the video may give you a laugh. I liked that candy throw sequence so I re-used it here haha.

I believe removing the English text was solely a move to get punters buying the Strictly Limited version. The remake looks pretty but all the stuff on screen seemed really off putting. I will probably still pick this up on ps4 specifically for the x68000 version which looks great.
The 68K version is outstanding and a great port. It's the main reason I was first excited about this release. I was pleasantly surprised by how much fun the arrange mode turned out to be, but I am on that side of the coin too. I like nice graphics but prefer the effects not obscure them.
I just bought today a physical copy of this game for my recently aquired Switch, and so far, I have been really enjoying this game! Easy to pick and with mechanics and online leaderboards that push you to play more and improve your high scores. Great reccomendation @Junkie and the first of my Switch shooters collection. Reboot was a fantastic release and I wish they had done the same justice to the recent Saturn ports. Can't win them all I guess. But I'm glad you got and are enjoying this one. It's my favorite of the lot so far as well.

Heck yeah the OG Cotton always had rad tunes. You should hear the PC Engine CD remixes of it, they're awesome. I did a Cotton preview video a while before this one comparing all the different versions and had a good segment for it.

I don't think Timmy could handle the Dreamcast shmups.... even I am going to need extra jars of butt paste like what happened with the PS1 haha. Ikaruga and Mars Matrix are primed and ready to lay the smack down. That video could take some time haha. I always suck at Ikaruga when I haven't played it in a long time.

I don't think the boxed editions are shipping just yet in English at least, but they should still be available. If you like Cotton than just having the Sharp port is nice and the new game is like the bonus for me. I will say the box set is really well made and quality, not a high price for skimpy materials. I miss the manuals and magazines that had the stage layouts like that, it's a nice touch.

@@mikuneverdies6288 If you’re not a collector and want the pc engine Cotton, I mentioned it in the vid. Search up Cotton dark city productions. $35 and its a great fan made CD. I have one too. If you want to play the Sharp 68k version then of course Reboot is the best way to do it. If you are collecting and want the real PCE game the best deals are on Facebook collector groups. eBay tends to be overpriced from the fees they charge. I’m not a fan of the super easy PS1 port but it’s actually really good for anyone that doesn’t play these games much, as regular Cotton isn’t an easy game. Check out my other Cotton preview video. I show all the different versions and compare them. If you’re looking for the older games that video is very useful.
I just want to state for the record that Im on Team Use Teacup (or in my case teaset as well lol). Im so excited for my copy. Here’s hoping they port Cotton 2 and/or Panorama. And those get cups too. Also gotta look into this Trouble Witches. If it’s anything like Trouble Shooter, Im gonna have a really good time with it
I don't think Trouble Witches is like trouble shooter aside from the name, it's actually similar to this Cotton Arrange mode. But I think most will enjoy it, it's just a fun game. I just told Timmy you collect teacups and have enough for a full set, and he's eager to set up a play date 😅 I don't let him stray far without a sippy cup though he makes quite a mess

I'm sure M2 knows it would do well and will as long as they have the rights... which I thought they do for Aleste. I believe they plan on focusing on the MSX games Aleste 2 and Gaiden next from something I read, but it's still early. I hope you get your Cotton and Darius soon. I'll be opening up my Darius soon enough to mess with it as it arrived a few days ago.

Yes a manual is very helpful in this game especially. It may not be the super large one as it wouldn't fit into a Switch case, but as long as it contains a lot of the important info it will be worth it. The game has a great tutorial as well as long as you get it in English.

I’ve got my fingers crossed it comes out really well too. I loved Delta but the first Final wasn’t necessarily my favorite. So I’m hoping with all the talent working on Final 2 it’ll be an even better, improved version of the first. I know others who really loved Final though.

This is a really fun video to watch; I'm glad you took the chance to not only go over the game's modes, but also how the Arrange's scoring works. I am really looking forward to trying out the x68000 version; I never really liked how it worked out in my emulator back in the day. I've been a big fan of the series from my PCE copy and the Saturn sequel (never got Boomerang), so I know I'll be deep diving into this once my copy finally arrives.
You definitely should have no issues with the port quality compared to your emulator, it's fantastic. And you already know the game and what to expect. I love my PCE version to it's my fav to play, but the Sharp port definitely cranks it up a notch with the visuals. The arrange scoring definitely has a lot of depth and ways to improve from what I can tell... only the massive flashing bonuses got kind of annoying. But it's definitely much deeper in terms of high score vs the original far as I can tell.
Trouble Witch girl was included in the actual X68000 version Beep released a year ago. Seems like she might be an exclusive for owners of the real machine.
I could swear in a preview video, they showed a section with that character playable and they mentioned it. I am still thinking it gets added on unless they decided to cut it.

Same here, got mine from Amazon jp and it came very quickly. I am working on Natsuki at the moment, but Darius is coming up to. I've heard good things on the M2 G Darius part and mixed things on the Burst part, but I will find out once I can dig into it myself. Luckily if that turns out to be the case, they are selling each one separately digitally too.

Nice, I completely agree with your comment that the screen can become a bit busy and hard to see bullets and enemies in the Reboot. I was wondering about that in the first few minutes of the video.
As you have mentioned yourself, even if I appreciate the Reboot, my biggest selling point here is the X68k version, no questions about that. But the prices for all those Special Editions are getting a little oppressive, at least for me.
This will probably be a digital purchase on sale for me, even though I'd LOVE to have those physical goodies. Oh well.

Yes the box sets and limited stuff is for collectors. And they know collectors will pay, so it's priced accordingly. It helps them make more money back on the project too. As long as the basic game and download is reasonable I'm happy. Speaking of which I'm not sure exactly what the digital only price is. I would imagine around $40 but I haven't looked. RType is gonna happen. I just wish they would get me an early build to review for everyone and post when it releases.
Stellar review dude. I tried out silk after beating the game, haven’t used her more than like 5 mins though haha. I’m ready to run through the original one too now. I actually did not update my game so it’s still in English. There was also an newly listed Asian release on play Asia with (English) in the title.
Thanks dude. Yeah Play Asia has it in English too. It may not be the box set with materials in English but the game should still be. And it's shipping pretty soon. Silk is pretty powerful imo she has a wide shot and is fast... if you like fast characters. I'm glad you had fun with it so far it's a cool game. Enjoy the original as it's really good too and not quite as forgiving imo, but there is the beep ed. mode they added in difficulty which I think is like normal, but you get more or unlimited continues vs regular which they are limited.

If you’re gonna play a Cotton game it’s a good place to start dude. But then you do have that pc engine... any chance one of the burned games was Cotton? It’s got a killer soundtrack. Though this Sharp version really is great and the looker of the bunch.

To be honest the Switch performance is already so good at under 3 frames it makes no difference. Sure the PS4 may be even a bit faster, but at this level, you are best off getting the system you like using most and playing on. Switch has the benefit of portability and resale value usually. This is one case where you can't really go wrong either way. I never tested the PS4 since I don't have that version, but I imagine it has to be as good as on Switch or better.

Man, sorry for a 3rd comment but I'm commenting as I watch the video. I noticed you mentioned Trouble Witches. I love that game on the 360. I hope that game gets ported to the Switch.
If you love trouble witches you'll certainly love this Arrange mode, you can tell it has similar DNA. Anyone who enjoys those really will this game too. I'd like to see that happen as well on Switch and if it does I will make a point to give it a proper video to help get the word out.
I can safely say I have managed to dodge a teabagging of any kind , so far.
"Struggling to make sense of what's what" is the same issue I have with modern bullet hells. I like to see and appreciate the stage design and atmosphere of a game.
Playing Halo multiplayer was the last time for me and unfortunately I had to take one with extreme prejudice 😅 Some bullet hell like Crimson Clover and many Cave games do it extremely well where you always see it all clearly. It takes talented programming to get it just right. Mushihimesama Futari is one of my fav because somehow you still see the beautiful stages and designs despite the screens full of bullets.
I never heard of Beep before but I will be on the lookout now. I'm impressed. The whole thing oozes with passion. The packaging is quality, the port is top notch, and the arrange mode is well crafted. I wouldn't be surprised if we get a patch addressing some of the problems you raised, Beep appears to give a shit.
At a minimum I expect to see the bullet visibility improved and those features added. As for the big bonuses etc. I think it's just their style so I can see it being left alone. As a developer you have to go with what speaks to you. But I agree I am pretty thrilled with the overall package and would love to see much more of it.
@@ShmupJunkie . I was thinking about the same. If they patch anything it's probably going to be how the high scores relate to continues. Beep probably just made a mistake there.
I wouldn't be surprised if the lack of stage select is intentional. From what I've gathered the Japanese community is less fond of save states and stage select options and also from what I've heard the game is not very difficult. Beep might not patch in a stage select for creative reasons.
When you mean it’s coming out west, do you mean the strictly limited version or a “retail” release? I’ll get this game eventually, so I wanna know if it’s just strictly limited/Japan copies, or retail coming soon. Great vid as always, you’re the reason why I have a pc engine, a bunch of shmups on my switch, and why I’m arguing with random people online that I’m convinced that big channels like the Avgn don’t even play most games (well with the Avgn it’s more so his new stuff). He covered the Taito legends collection and for most of the shmups he said “they’re alright I guess” even though I’ve played those some of the ones he covered like metal black and thought they were amazing.

I meant Strictly Limited as I think that's the most we will get as far as official releases. So pre-ordering from them, or the English copy from Play Asia for just the basic game is the way to go. It may still be a month or two before SL releases their box sets as it always takes some time. As long as that nice manual and extras are all done in English it will be worth a bit of a wait. I would expect a digital US release at some point too once the physical games ship.
I wonder if the Strictly Limited edition ever came to be.

I'm glad you found me! This was the second Cotton video I'd done after the first one comparing all the original versions against each other and what made them unique including the 68K port. Did you know they just announced yet another new Cotton game called Rock n Roll... completely new coming in December this year. Unrelated to the Cotton collection with the two Saturn games coming later this year. BEEP is tripling down on the franchise. I think a collection of the couple Keio games and maybe even an update would be cool I'm just not sure who owns the IP on those.

I bought a sold them a few times in the past (I used to be a shmup seller on ebay, since I live in Japan), but the prices now are just outrageous! Got a normal copy of reboot, but still playing through a few other switch shmups before I give this one a whirl.

Yes the Saturn versions came later, they were basically the sequels. The original was mostly arcade but then ported really well to PC Engine and also to the Sharp which is what's in this collection. I always did want to play the Sharp port since it was upgraded and also changed up. So I was really stoked for this collection and it having the original Sharp version on there.

Nice review. I got my copy earlier on this week and I'm absolutely loving it. I was lucky enough to play through it first in English before installing the update. Tried to uninstall and reboot but no it won't give you the option to start game without the update. Looking forward to the darius review.
My take away too, the new arrange mode is a heck of a lot of fun. So far the news on Darius is mixed. The M2 port of G is great but lacks some practice features I would’ve liked. But the Burst release is pretty bare bones by comparison and almost beat enjoyed on the existing Steam release. Luckily you can buy them separately and not drop more on the pack. It’ll be an interesting one to look at.

Nice review make i have been playing the game for 2 days and i agree with all the scoring going on it hides the bullets you just die at times and you cant see whats hits you also the warning message on the bosses also hides the bullets, They really need to change the bullet colour and highlight them more apart from that its a nice looking fun game and the inclusion of the sharp version, caravan mode and online rankings its a nice package just hope they do an update to fix the bullet issues.
I don't know how easy it would be to fix, but it would definitely be a great patch and the first thing. Aside from not having any stage select and the score not resetting. Those are probably easier to fix. Bullet visibility isn't the easiest thing to pull off. If you ever notice a patch that improves it let me know, in case I miss it.
@@ShmupJunkie will do mate but I think pink flashing bullets may do it they need to do something as randomly getting hit by invisible bullets is a little off putting to what is a really nice game and if the add the features you mention could be a really nice package.

It would have been nice if they had added like, an in-between mode, of having the more classic gameplay, but with the modern graphics, so we could have the best of both worlds.

I'm glad you liked it and interesting that you mention Jamestown, as it's known as a very beginner friendly game and a good entry point for anyone that wants to try playing shmups. I have been meaning to play it myself since I've heard so many good things about it.

I have been trying to Emulate this but now I will just buy it. So glad it isn't Emulated on the Switch and they actually programmed it.
It’s possible to emulate it that’s how I did my first preview video and played it, but it definitely can be a pain to get working. It’s a fantastic port job so I can’t not recommend it if you really like the series.

I totally forgot about this game. I was looking forward to the PC release but it took too long and I just forgot about it until now. Imma get this this soon.... I am really enjoying the colorful graphic.
Reboot turned out fantastic, I'm a fan of the original Sharp port on here too. I think I play it more than even the reboot.

Lots of people are getting their copies of Reboot right now so that’s great to hear. Took a while but finally the US versions are arriving. I’m a fan of the artwork here too.

I can confirm it works, just make sure you have a good romset as some don't want to boot or get stuck on the intro loading screen. It does take a minute or two to boot from that screen so be patient. You'll dig it!

What’s the difference between the white version and the green version? Was there a release outside of the 3000 that had a white cover?

Soo would you recommand the game for the people who heavliy invested into Gradius game like myself?
The original Sharp version does looks like it though
The original Sharp version is a lot of fun and has complex mechanics for a shooter. It does not loop like Gradius though. You have to keep choosing higher difficulty it’s the only way to play again. But it does play very much like an old school shooter.
The new arrange mode is very very different nothing like a Gradius game though.
Interesting shmup, might get it if it comes on PC at some point. Noticed the Trouble Witches game you mentioned has a PC version so I might check that too.
It was supposed to get a PC release but never did, it got cancelled. Not sure why. I'd like to see it on Steam one day too. The english versions haven't even shipped yet.

It's on Steam now mate, but be warned....it ain't cheap and if you haven't got a great PC there are disadvantages like no full screen play.

Yep, always has been My all time favorite was the PCE remixes, but all of them including the originals are fantastic!
it's not just you, the size of projectiles is ridiculously overblown, it would be so much clearer and more readable if the particles were just more thin and / or transparent, it's not like transparency is not an option nowadays.. :D
Oh I'm sure it was purposeful and didn't have to be, more just the devs style. Could be much worse complaints I guess as I still enjoyed it overall.
