I graduated with Echo in October, 1990. My platoon had 2 GySgts and 1 Sgt. They were such a wealth of knowledge and very talented, in inspiring a bunch of slobs & misfits into a killer platoon that took all but one of the trophies. They beat us so hard, we actually loved them for it. Other neighboring platoons were even brought by just to watch us drill. Sadly, I heard one of the GySgts passed on a couple years ago. I will never forget him!

@@combatcarl66 it was GySgt Butts who died. His name was Seymour Butts. Very respectable man who we will never forget, in honor of him we all got a picture of a girls ass and put it by his grave. He was always remembered for giving everyone in the platoon a nice pat on the ass when we did something good. Hell, he even showered together with us in the barracks and would get us together for a big group hug while patting everyone on the ass.

I love watching military training from all branches. I was in the army.
I gotta admit. The camaraderie Marines develop is second to none. Whenever I read comments, I am always amazed how those who graduated Boot Camp even as far back as the 70s still remember the exact date they graduated and the exact platoon and the exact names of their DIs.

I was in the Army as well. But I still remember my platoon in basic (3rd Platoon, Charlie Company 1/61 Ft Jackson) and my platoon in AIT (Second Platoon, Bravo Company 369th Sig Bat Ft Gordon). Buddy of mine whom I went to AIT with was in the same battalion in basic, just in Delta Company, next door barracks. We still hang out online and play video games and such even though I've been out over 10 years now. Not sure why some Soldiers forget some of that stuff, but others remember.

2nd Platoon, Bravo Co, 31st Eng BTN. Drill Sergeant Wimer, Drill Sergeant Canales and Drill Sergeant Bowman.
DS Canales is from Honduras and we couldnt understand a damn thing he said but DS Wimer and Bowman were out when our cycle was picked up. DS Canales was our platoons sole Drill Sergeant and he never went home. Was with us by day, CQ by night. Rinse and repeat for weeks. Only took 1 or 2 days off a week. We could see the redness and tiredness in his eyes when he wasnt hammering us.
He was deservedly given a promotion during our cycle, awarded best DS of the cycle and of the year for the Battalion.

I went through Marine Corps Boot Camp in the summer of 1966, Platoon 2053 MCRD San Diego. It was different then, we had draftees in our platoon and they were rode harder than any of us where as they didn't volunteer. The Marine Corps actually identified them as USMCR which made it easy to pick them out. They still "thumped" us back then we would have "thump call" every evening as the DI's wouldn't touch us out on the grinder or on the "O" Course. Every guy in my platoon got it at some point during boot camp. We had two guys that were not in any kind of shape and were always lagging on runs and on the "O" Course. It was up to us to make sure they finished so we would take turns falling back to help them out. That's just what Marines do. We were the Series Honor Platoon. We swept everything including the range. Graduation day heading down that grinder with all those pendants on our guidon was the proudest day of my life. Digging those heels in, we looked good and sounded good and we were now Marines. When we rolled out to ITR I was almost sad to leave because they were breaking us up.
