I just bought the ps1 version again, I have fallen in love with it all over. This is One of my all time favorite games. It’s hard to explain how great this game is without playing it, everyone should shell out the $50 or so for whatever version is accessible to them and experience the best JRPG of all time.
pshhh no. everyone should download the iso and give at least the psx version a try. imo this game is on par if not better than chrono trigger with how well done it was in almost every aspect.
@@noname72390 this was 5 years ago big dog, I was younger, slightly more naive and thought that companies cared about preserving their catalogs. Now I see they do not care, so I definitely vote to pirate these games at this point, since its clear they don’t give a shit about
Ghaleon, no! GHALEON, YES! The dialogue in this game is priceless. I love how your video perfectly captures how awesome this game is! It's one of my favs from childhood and still a favorite to this day.
As a big fan of the Lunar series it's wonderful to hear other people's enthusiasm about the series! Maybe 1 day we will be talking about Lunar 3 and how great it is instead of wondering if the series really ended on Dragon Song. The remake gives us hope though! GameArts hasn't forgotten Lunar.
Working Designs was an awesome company that really gave you some nice gifts when you bought the game including a soundtrack and a cloth map in the first SSSC. The second one gave you a pendant necklace the same as Lucia's in the game and that necklace was no joke, it was heavy. Also had some other cool things that came along with it. On top of that the strategy guides were both very informative and hysterical. They gave the writer(s) a lot of freedom when it came to the writing so he was allowed to give his own opinion and satire to what was happening, especially with the cinematics. The strategy guides themselves were nice. The strategy guide for Lunar Eternal Blue was hard back and had a reversible dusk jacket and included a comic strip that was written with along with the game. Working designs was ahead of it's time sadly. They brought over the Arc the Lad series which was another amazing series and released it in a box set. Sadly I think that was the last game they were able to do. Yet again it came with plenty of goodies. As a gamer I felt so valued as a customer and didn't mind paying the extra for all the other things that came along with the box set or the strategy guide because so much came with it. It sure beats buying a game now and then buying the DLC that should have been released with the original game.
I first played this, and Eternal Blue on Sega CD, and it was the first JRPG I'd played that had animated scenes, voice acting, and a fully orchestrated soundtrack that wasn't MIDI. When I got the PS1 version, I bought the special edition that had the cool box, and cloth map you mentioned, and also had a really cool Ghaleon hand puppet with punching fists. While the graphics update was a welcome addition on the PS1 version, the one thing I missed was the original soundtrack. They kept some of the original songs, but replaced most of them. I had no idea where was a PSP version! I'll have to check that out. It looks pretty cool even if the original voice cast isn't on it.
When I played the first version of this game on the Sega Cd version I practically fell in love with it! It was one of my favorite games of all time!! I played through it many times... and don't get tired at all... I still love to play it.
This was an awesome game that I played on the PS1. Just watching this video made me pull it out just to gaze upon it once more. One of the first RPGs that had characters that I genuinely cared about.
There are few games that truly capture me like this game did. Lunar, Skies of Arcadia, Zelda: OOT, Grandia 2, Final Fantasy 8, 10 & 11. Granted, I do believe age & responsibility is a huge factor when attempting to immerse yourself in a game world/story. This was one of my first RPGs and couldn't have been more than 12 years old when I played it so I had no cares in the world other than school. I believe your mind being a sort of blank slate lets you absorb and immerse yourself in game world. As an adult, for the most part you have to deal with responsibilities which subconsciously crowd out space in your mind.
I had this game on Sega CD when I was in high school. I have a sweet spot for it since it was the first time I experienced a video game with cinematic appeal. Way ahead of it's time. I can't think of another game that moving till final fantasy 7. And that one invoked feelings more along the lines of loss, anger, and disgust.
You are not the only one who shares the same love for lunar Silver star story and eternal blue complete. Complete masterpieces imo. I remember when there was rumors of a Lunar 3. It broke my heart when I found out that was never gonna happen. I hope they add it to the switch sometime. Would love to own it again. They got for like 500 now for a complete set.
The lunar games on the psx hold a special place for me. They were the first "collectors" anything I ever bought and I even got the guides which were awesome as well. I had the Ghaleon punching doll but got lost somehow. Anyways, thanks for the memories.
Lunar was my first RPG I ever played. It was also the first game I owned on the playstation that had voice acting. I still have my copies and will never get rid of it.
Am I the only one who remembers Ghaleon's post final battle dialogue. Probably one of the best voice acting I have ever heard in terms of quality. The Making of Lunar disc explained how he emulated the voice of a mortally wounded man, let's say John drank a ton of milk because of it. How does the PSP version fares in comparison? With s stereotypical ''No, impossible!'' exclamation.
ElvisGC whoa a 3 hours ago comment when the rest were a while ago lol. great minds think alike. GREAT series. I grew up with sssc and eternal blue. Can't say enough great things about the series.
Amazing video. I love the PSX version quite a bit, but the Sega CD version will always be my favorite because it was the first I experienced. I had a very similar experience to you, where Lunar was the first game to make me feel for video game characters as if they were real people. Though there are some that don't like Vic Ireland's humor and approach to scripts, I feel that it's that very thing that made me enjoy it to the level in which I did.
@@alexkubrat3868 A very late reply but during the development of the original Playstation one of its pre-production codenames was 'PSX' and this name was used a lot in magazines of the time. It's kind of stuck because of that. The problem being of course an actual PSX exists, it's a PS2 based digital video recorder and a notable part of Playstation history as it has the first version of the XMB.
@@alexkubrat3868 These days PSX mostly means you're old (like me), because that's what we called PS1 at the time. Since the PS2/3/4/5 it seems to make more sense to say PS1, but when the Playstation was new everyone said PSX.
Great video, thumbs up for sure and a new sub. I came here for a recap cause I just got to disc 2 of Lunar 2 after having beat Silver Star in 09 and I'm seeing a lot of familiar faces so I was looking for a refresher. Didn't exactly get that but still a great video. This was one of my favorite RPG games I've completed and I'm already loving the sequel. Once I beat it, I'll come back here for your video on it...haven't checked to see if you have one yet. I hope so.
Like most, I'm surprised that not a lot of gaming channels ever talked about this game, considering it has a solid story and presentation on the same level if not better than the Final Fantasy games at that time. I guess it's because it is not a Nintendo product and only received a port for the GBA, when most US 90s kids that I know grew up Nintendo (I grew up with the PS1 and PS2) I've only remembered playing and actually completing the PS1 version waaaay back then when I saw this review. Fun times, but man, the battles can be hard as balls at times. To those who've started playing, follow Duke's advice for the first boss. I as a kid cried a lot in frustration losing out to that blob so many times.
Can't believe I missed this! Really happy to see a spotlight of this game and the magic it encompassed. I can't even fathom how much time and energy I put into this classic. Keep up all your amazing retrospects, you always inspire me each time I get to watch them ^_^
My all time favorite game for Sega CD. I do love Popful Mail though too. I really need to play all these remakes.. I have them, I just need to get to them
I'm 38 years old. My wife got me the PlayStation version just a few years ago, and it my first time playing through the whole game. I can say it's pretty amazing. The game play is great, but the story, characters, and sound track are what made the experience for me. Definitely one of my favorite games of all time.
That's such a cool idea having the enemies telegraph what sort of attack they're going to do the turn before, meaning you'll pay a lot more attention to the fighting and as you said it adds tactical aspects too. It's such a clever way to keep the gamer involved, avoiding that blind cycle battling found in other old JRPGS. Thanks for doing this video, I'm gonna get it.
This game meant so much to me. Some of the best times of my life. (Sad i know). The discs were scratched and the FMVs would skip. Still beat it 4 or 5 times. Played hundreds of games since but probly enjoyed none quite like this
A guy who likes the lunar series is forever my bro. I know the feeling and the review u made was so accurate to what I have felt playing it. Thank you.
When I first found your channel, this thumbnail jumped out at me right away. I love the Lunar series. I remember playing the Silver Star Story Complete when I was younger. This game means a lot to me. As you said, it really makes you feel invested in the characters and in their struggles. Such a great story and probably my favorite love story in gaming. I also like the way the battle system works. Just allowing characters to move around the screen and having a set range helps change things up from the typical turn-based style. And the effort Working Designs put into their localization is definitely to be applauded. An excellent game all around. And an excellent video discussing it! :) I hope that you'll do a video on Lunar 2 at some point as well.
Wow. Well done, Duke! Great video! I feel the love and admiration radiating from my screen and speakers. I truly love Lunar 1 and 2 and they'll always be at the top of my list.
I'm so happy the TH-cam algorithm brought me here. I love Lunar, and just seeing all this footage and hearing the sounds again brought joyful tears to my eyes. I probably haven't thought about this series in 15+ years.
I was sad to see Truitt go as he was one of my favorite parts of the originals, but I have to admit that Ghaleon's new voice was a lot easier to take seriously.
When I first heard about Lunar, I was skeptical. I first played Silver Star Story Complete when all the other games at the video store were rented out. I'm glad I swallowed my pride to play this masterpiece. Excellent work on the video, btw. Keep up the awesomeness.
I loved this. Thank you. I remember renting it from Blockbuster when I was a kid, actually. And finishing it. My mom couldn't understand why I kept choosing the same game over and over and over again, every time we went to rent something, but if you're fan, you'll find the answer obvious. Such a great hit. I eventually tracked down my own copy in my late teens, and I've still got it AND play it on my PS3 1st gen. And, as luck would have it, I went to a convention a few years back, and managed to flirt(yeah, flirt, I'm not ashamed) my way into obtaining the faux lather bound companion book for WAY less than its selling price. It helped that they had the book, but didn't actually have the GAME to sell with it! Thanks for this video, bro. It brought back a lot of fond memories.
I'm so glad to hear there is someone who REALLY loves this game. I had a MegaCD and this and Snatcher were (and still are) 2 of my favourite games ever. I had played som JRPGs by then on both Master System and Mega Drive, but Lunar, given its length and characters was really something bigger: it felt like watching an episode from a long fantasy anime series each time I loaded my save and went on with the game. I'm a fan of the SegaCD version but still, the PSOne port was very well done imho, and holds a bit better today thanks to the improved graphics. But I'm still more "in love" with the soundtrack of the original: it had some tunes i still find myself humming from time to time, and the lyrics from the rock/metal opening are still carved into my mind. \m/ The game is also available on iOS and is just as great (except for navigation, which is a bit clunky). The only 3 JRPGs that I can think of loving as much as Lunar are Phantasy Star IV on the Mega Drive, Final Fantasy VI and Chrono Trigger on the SNES. They all share the same feeling and details on character development in terms of story and not level-up/skills.
I first discovered and fell in love with Lunar when I saw my brother show the cutscenes on the Complete version on our old PSX. I sadly just recently got to rediscover the series on my PC via emulator. My first real experience with the series was Dragon Song. Which in my opinion is not bad it just suffers from being a part of the lunar series. its disappointing at worst. a few years ago I got to play through SSS the first time via an iOS port. To this day it is probably my favorite JRPG series.
This is THE best gaming video I've seen on TH-cam. I'm sure it took many hours to complete it and I want to say thank you for bring me back to my childhood. Lunar 1 PSX is my fav game off all time!!! and I absolutely adore it just as you do. Thank you for making this video. I'd love to see more of your work! Nick
Wonderful! It's rare that I find someone else who seems to love this game as much as I do. But every time it happens it's like reliving the game again. So thanks for that! - Bryan
I got the PSX Comolete version as a Christmas gift and it was missing a couple of the intended items but that didn't bother me as a kid, however the 2nd disc got a scratch on it that prevented me from progressing in the game. My mom emailed the support address and they sent me an entirely new copy of the Complete set which blew my mind as a kid. I was sad to hear Working Designs closed down a couple years later because I loved their work with the Arc the Lad collection too.
I first played Lunar the Silver Star on Sega CD when I was in elementary school here in the US around '97. Sega CD just wasn't a popular console so most people over look it. I loved it so much that as a teenager I used my babysitting money just to buy a PS1 and Lunar the Silver Star Story Complete. I also own Lunar Legend. To this day I still say tell people it's one of my favorite RPGs.
I just beat LSSC for the first time ever the other day... 21 years after I originally bought it. Just never had gotten around to finishing it. So glad I decided to go on my "Finish those JRPGs I Never Beat" binge a month ago. Started off with LSSC. Such a fantastic game. I had always remembered Lunar 2: Eternal Blue Complete as the game I liked more, but LSSC was so close. Now I'm starting a fresh game of Lunar 2 to see how they compare back to back. Been watching a lot of videos on the Lunar series and the Star Ocean series (SO2 is up next after I finish Lunar 2) recently, and this is bringing back so many memories as a kid playing these games. Glad that I can still play them now and rediscover my joy in them, though now with a more mature mindset (read: grinding a lot).
Finally had a chance to enjoy this upload in one sitting. You did real good, Duke. You couldn't have put it better. Honestly, if anyone is passionate about the twists and turns of an amazing white knight story, this title is a necessity. I wish everyone could play through Lunar in their early teens. There's just something about the hope, selflessness and passion of the main characters... such a compelling coming of age story.
I was really hoping you'd enjoy this one, Dog! If I could give ever video game player a copy of Lunar, I would... Lunar is and will also be more than a game to me; it was one of the first pieces of media I connected too outside of books and film, and hough I didn't realize it at the time, it helped prove to me that video games, and other interactive experiences, could be just as thought provoking, emotional, and important as 'traditional' mediums. I am really happy you dug this, dude. One of these days I'll tackle Eternal Blue!
Sadly my first real experience with Lunar was Dragon Song... Ugh! But a couple of years ago I managed to find an iOS version for my iPhone and played through Silver Star Story on a trip to Florida. I recently downloaded a PSX emulator and the ISOs for Silver Star Story and Eternal Blue complete. I'm going to try to go through both games for my own channel sometime.
Oh man, it looks like the both of us revisited this game and made videos at approximately the same time. I found you via TOVG and only now have I had a chance to watch this video as a whole. Its great, I found myself nodding in agreement the whole time. The PS1 version was my first experience with Lunar, John Truitt is a favorite voice actor of mine (the enunciation is fantastic) and I totally agree you don't play Lunar for the gameplay (which is by no means bad) but for the story/characters. Every time that intro and Blue Dragon Cave. Ahhh! I wish this version was on Playstation Network. Been saying it for years now, it would give everyone the chance they deserve. I would love to one day buy the rights to Lunar and make a sequel and put the original (or rather PS1 port) bundled in. I got Lunar: SSC new from Sam's Club but it was just the game. No box, map, trinkets, soundtrack, etc. My version has limited edition fanart on the discs. I haven't seen it anywhere else. Still I would have preferred getting the soundtrack. The feels this game has, not only that but my name is Alex and I first played this game at 15. Completely relate-able! Sorry to ramble but this made me gush. Love your channel, you earned my sub to both my TH-cam accounts.
I grew up with the Sega CD version via my older brothers friend. Tough choice between the Sega CD and PSX version as they both have strong and weak points.
Great review and thanks for putting this together. I had the exact same experience when I first played the Sega CD version, so long ago. Still my favorite game of all time. I'm currently playing through the PSP retelling and that's been a fun revisit of the world of Lunar that I fell in love with, so long ago.
Good sir, I wish to thank you for talking about this series. I rarely see anyone mention the Lunar series. The way you feel for Silver Star Story, is exactly how I feel for Eternal Blue Complete. I actually have the collectors box set for Eternal Blue, the strategy guide, and a poster I mailed in to get from Working Design. Eternal Blue is the game that got me to enjoy the stories in games. It is my favorite treasure. Sadly I only have the game to Silver star story complete. I hope you'll talk about Eternal Blue someday.
I really enjoyed this video. I was going though a bad brake up at the time I was playing this game as a teenager. It renewed my faith in love. Amazing soundtrack. You didn't mention the medalion that came in the box or the Galion puppet you get with the pre-order tho.
I never had the chance to play any of the Lunar games, but I definitely see the impact they had. And watching your vid reminded me of an older series I DID play, which was just as unique as Lunar from what I can tell. Most of us here remember Grandia, right? But I didn't know Game Arts had a hand in Lunar, so now it's easy to see all the parallels. Grandia 1 and 2 have some of the best character development I've seen; and they were also games where you really cared about the cast of characters. Grandia 2 in particular stood out for me because it has some of the most profound and disturbing representations of human corruption I've ever seen in a game, and really zeroed in on Ryudo's struggle with his own inner demons. Sounds like I'll have to find a way to play the Lunar games, too. Except for Dragon Song, anyway
13:19 _It's hard to think of Luna as this sweet, charming character I know she is when reading her text is a lot like READING AN EMAIL FROM MY GRANDMOTHER_ Word! Haha, dying here. XD
My favorite RPG of all time! The PSX version was the only one I played, so I might be biased to it, but the PSP version looks very interesting! Might play that one when I revisit the world of Lunar. Also played Lunar 2, but I liked Silver Star better. I did love seeing the legacy that Dragonmaster Alex left behind for Hiro and company, though. Great video!
I enjoyed your video man, This was one of my absolute favourite games as a youngster along with Xenogears, Final Fantasy Tactics, Vandal Hearts, FF7 and the Suikoden series! :)
I'm just waiting on my copy to be delivered to me! I grew up playing Eternal Blue so I definitely prefer it (although it may just be because of nostalgia) however this whole series was so magical 😭 i really wish turn-based rpgs like this were still a thing
Awesome video, man. If I ever find the GBA version, I'll pick it up and give it a shot. On another note, one of the games that really made me care about the characters and made me feel like I was a part of the adventure was "Breath of Fire 2". Have you ever played that one? It's really good, in my opinion.
haha i'm a year older then you and picked up the GBA version not knowing what the lunar series was. All i knew is it sounded larger then life and very badass like many rpg titles. It turned out one of my most favorite and memorable JRPG's of all time. It was a very majestical game, with the singing luna plot under the twilight, the dragon creature that followed you around, the conversations with the dragons, and the erie music/plot and themes in general. I beat the game in the darkness of a car ride home from the lake cottage my great grandparents built in Connecticut, and the thrill of that last dungeon and plot was very epic, majestical, and satisfying. It was wierd trying to revistit it recently, none of the other lunar games, though apparently the same game, seemed anywhere close or similar to the GBA version. Its apparent as you mentioned they changed the plot around, not to mentioned completely redid the music, sound effects, graphics, and battle mechanics (probably to one i was more used to anyway; i enjoyed it and do not see it as bad lol). I tried playing the playstation and psp version for the fun of replaying but it just did not seem the same; they seem like entirely differnt games all together. If you havnt played through the entire GBA version I recommend it, due to how memorable it was as a fairly experienced JRPG player (if thats something to even boast haha; the plotlines are dumb) . The effect they captured doesnt seem to be apparent in the other versions, even though they were original versions of the same plotline
i wonder exactly though what the exact differences were of the versions? They seem so different I bet even the endings are not the same; or done in a way that it depicts a different scene.
I lost my rpg virginity to lunar on Sega CD and I know exactly what you mean about it making you feel something for the characters and the world. .. Words fail to express the experience I had with this game as a kid but the fact that I named my son Alex might give someone a glimpse of how it impacted my life. Lunar lives in a soft spot near the center of my heart. ... ...
I beat the PS1 version yesterday and I feel similar to what you expressed. I will play the Sega CD version in the future, I really enjoyed the games, and the characters were really great.
This game is one of my favorites of all time. I have my old strategy guide from way back when with all it's snark captioning the screenshots... It holds a very special place in my heart as one of the best JRPG love stories of all time. Also me: His last name is NOAH!?
I pre-ordered this game for the PS1 at Gamestop years ago. With the pre-order they gave our Ghaleon punching puppets. The dude at the register said they had more than the pre-orders so he gave me two. Sadly, I don't have any of the additional items that came with the game or the puppets. I really wish I hadn't opened the second one. This was one of my favorite RPGs ever.
Thank you for the review! Lunar has a special place in my heart. I use to play my grandma's version when I was young and the sequel as well. I ended up going on a death hunt for it when I got older because I had to own it myself. You're right though. Dragon Song was disappointing and the prequel was just unplayable. After it I played Grandia and basically made my way deeper into the RPG world. I always suggest to people when I get the chance. My future kids will be required to play it.
Great review! I loved this title and it was a stroke of luck that I got to experience it (Picked up a complete copy from a local pawn shop that had no idea what it was for $5 in 2013). The only thing I did not like was the way the bosses scaled to Alex's level. I'm the kind that level grinds in this genre (I've a LV 30 Cecil on Mt. Ordeals in Final Fantasy IV) and it felt punishing.
SMRPGFAN101 I happen to like it when they scale the bosses to Alex's level being I'm not that good at rpgs. The only rpg game series that I'm into are Pokemon and Mario and Luigi and I used to like Paper Mario because they were easier to get into. I just wish Nintendo would make a turn based rpg Paper Mario Game being I just prefer it.
Play the original Working Designs version on Sega CD if you want the full experience in the spirit of this video. This was the one I started on and it is still my favorite RPG to this day.
[Some SPOILERS discussed below] As awesome as the PS1 remake was, nothing was more powerful than Ghaleon's betrayal in the Sega CD version, when he outright kills Quark and simultaneously has the villagers of Burg captured. He is still one of my favorite villains to this day (second only to Kefka, really, in terms of true villainy) because of his ruthlessness and ambition... which then leads to his incredible redemption in Eternal Blue (his return in the second game had me fanboying like you wouldn't believe back when I played it in '95). Additionally, Quark's death and, later, Alex's battle with the crazed (and now undead) Black Dragon led to a great twist later in Silver Star, when Alex realizes that he couldn't get the final Dragon blessing he needed to become a true Dragonmaster. The PS1 remake did well to add a lot of content, characters, and depth, but there were a few things that it just didn't do as well as the original. The Caves of Trial come to mind, where Alex must venture alone with Nall, armed with only his newly-acquired magic, to get into Vane as Nash explains that those who have already passed the trial automatically warp to Vane (in the PS1 version, Nash joins him for the trial, which lessens the challenge and tension). The fake Dragonmaster was also far more challenging, though a much much shorter quest in the Sega CD version (one of the most difficult boss fights if you weren't prepared with enough levels and resources). I also much preferred the soundtrack of the original, but I understand that that was a whole debacle in itself, so.... eh. Huh. I almost feel like I wrote this all before... EDIT: Oh yeah, and while Ghaleon betrays Quark, he doesn't outright proclaim himself the Magic Emperor. One thing I liked about the Sega CD is that rumors of the Magic Emperor arise throughout the game, but it isn't until much later that the player (and characters) discover that Ghaleon and the Magic Emperor are one and the same.
Very nice review. This game is so underrated. Another amazing underrated RPG also is Legend Of Dragoon. If you are a fan of traditional JRPG, I would recommend you this game and Legend Of Dragoon
I looove this game , kind of reminds me of Final Fantasy 4. Lovable characters, going to the moon in ff4 and going to the frontier on lunar, some other things reminded me when I was playing I dunno felt like they were influenced a little. Thats puting no shade on Lunar as a game by itself at all tho cause its got its own story and battle system is great. One of the best Rpg's
Lunar was prolly one of my first, if not my first RPGs growing up, never really exposed to any til my mom came home with a copy after going through some of the game magazines I frequently read and re-read. Thanks for reminding me how beautiful this game is and how much it means to me. By chance, if you happen to read this comment, I would like to know the title of the song you used for the outro since this sounds like Althena's Song but I have never encountered this version before.
My first experience with Lunar was Lunar Legend on the GBA. The nights I spent playing it until my mom walked in and yelled at me to go to sleep because it was midnight were too many to count, because I just COULD NOT put it down. Sadly, now that I've played SSSC and seen SSH in action, I doubt I could ever pick up and play Lunar Legend again. Mainly it's the soundtrack that kills it for me. How could Ubisoft think THAT soundtrack was passable for the GameBoy Advance when we had games like Golden Sun and Golden Sun: The Lost Age, games that have some of the best soundtracks I've ever heard in an RPG?
Dude! Almost the same here - I got Lunar in 2000 when I was 10, and then Eternal Blue when I turned 11 in 2001. Memories!
The fact that it doesn’t have its own anime yet is long overdue

Ghaleon, no!
GHALEON, YES!
The dialogue in this game is priceless. I love how your video perfectly captures how awesome this game is! It's one of my favs from childhood and still a favorite to this day.
Vegeta ,no ! Vegeta, Yes !
What a superb video. While you prefer the PS1 version I am very thankful you took the time to show the differences between all the ports.

A wonderful overview, thanks so much. Huge waves of nostalgia. You did a great job presenting in this
Working Designs was an awesome company that really gave you some nice gifts when you bought the game including a soundtrack and a cloth map in the first SSSC.
You go over every reason why I love Lunar.
I agree so much about Ghaleon. John Truitt is the one true Ghaleon.
I just finished lunar 2. God what a great adventure.
Excellent review dude! Just subscribed! :)
Lunar Legend is wonderful; a classic adventure.
Love this game series. No one game has ever changed my life as much. Well, Eternal Blue, but Silver Star is a close second.
Can somebody answer me why everybody is calling PS PSX?
I definately agree with you. John Truitt was an AWESOME Ghaleon.
I hope so.
I do want to do a proper video on Lunar 2 one day!
Like most, I'm surprised that not a lot of gaming channels ever talked about this game, considering it has a solid story and presentation on the same level if not better than the Final Fantasy games at that time. I guess it's because it is not a Nintendo product and only received a port for the GBA, when most US 90s kids that I know grew up Nintendo (I grew up with the PS1 and PS2)
I've only remembered playing and actually completing the PS1 version waaaay back then when I saw this review.
Keep up all your amazing retrospects, you always inspire me each time I get to watch them ^_^
Thank you so much, Erika! I really appreciate your kind words!
You both missed it on the Sega CD
Alex Nishikawa I don't understand? I talk about and own the Sega CD version...
I loved this game. Thanks for the walk down memory lane. You do such great research. Well done.
Thank you. I'm glad we could take that trip! :D
Played hundreds of games since but probly enjoyed none quite like this
I played this game after I saw your video, it's easily one of my favorite rpgs now.
Oh my lord, Lunar SSSC, dat moment when Alex becomes Dragonmaster... Talk about powerful.
one of the greatest games of all time.
A guy who likes the lunar series is forever my bro. I know the feeling and the review u made was so accurate to what I have felt playing it. Thank you.
Best Game Ever! It never get's too old!
Oh, the nostalgia... Thanks for posting this.
Great game and awesome video.
The game is also available on iOS and is just as great (except for navigation, which is a bit clunky).
Such spectacular editing! And what a wonderful game, I'll have to look out for the PSP version. Thanks so much for sharing :P
I love the red dragon shrine in both 1 and 2. you can heal infinite times. great places to level.
My favorite RPG. Particularly the Sega CD version. I have that and the playstation version. Would like to pick it up on PSP too.
PSP version has terrible voice acting. get the GBA conversion instead. it's cut down, but of course a GBA game would have to be.
I'll always have this deep in my heart. I play it every day that I can for the GBA lunar legend
Glad others keep learning about this game and its wonderful legacy
Dragon Song's announcement was the greatest thing in the world and then it came out :(
I think I found another TH-camr whose content I'm looking forward to seeing in the future!
I grew up with the Sega CD version via my older brothers friend. Tough choice between the Sega CD and PSX version as they both have strong and weak points.
I started playing Lunar on ps1 again because of this video.
Maybe I'm just jaded and cynical, but Luna is quite annoying. I'm actually begging for her to get *spoilers* captured this time
Great review and thanks for putting this together.
Stay tuned! I certainly plan on it! It's a much longer game so it'll be a while, but it is coming!
The 8-Bit Duke Can't wait!! I really wish there was a remake of EB as with Silver Star story but just makes every replay even more enjoyable.
I really enjoyed this video. I was going though a bad brake up at the time I was playing this game as a teenager. It renewed my faith in love. Amazing soundtrack. You didn't mention the medalion that came in the box or the Galion puppet you get with the pre-order tho.
I've had my Lunar and Arc boxes in large zip lock bags since I brought them home from Electroncs Boutique. They're as mint as mint gets!
13:19 _It's hard to think of Luna as this sweet, charming character I know she is when reading her text is a lot like READING AN EMAIL FROM MY GRANDMOTHER_
Word! Haha, dying here. XD
killer video duke, looking forward to the next one!
I'm going to finally get to try both of these games. Never got to try them when I was a kid.
Got a copy on the ps1 at value village for 3$. I must play it now. Every game you talk about I check it out. Thank you !
+MegaTwinkle101 Dragon Song sucks butt.
Awesome video, man. If I ever find the GBA version, I'll pick it up and give it a shot. On another note, one of the games that really made me care about the characters and made me feel like I was a part of the adventure was "Breath of Fire 2". Have you ever played that one? It's really good, in my opinion.
Nice in depth review. I've been going down memoery lane and was o ly finding 5 min reviews that didn't do the game justice.
haha i'm a year older then you and picked up the GBA version not knowing what the lunar series was.
This has remained one of my top 5 games.
Should be on Switch....both games are charming as hell. Real Classics.
I love this game. I played it in my PlayStation when I was 11 and I think it's my 2nd or 3rd RPG.
I played the original in 93 and the remakes on ps and PSP. My all time favorite game and first rpg I ever played
Awesome video duke just subscribed!!
Play the original Working Designs version on Sega CD if you want the full experience in the spirit of this video. This was the one I started on and it is still my favorite RPG to this day.
[Some SPOILERS discussed below]
As awesome as the PS1 remake was, nothing was more powerful than Ghaleon's betrayal in the Sega CD version, when he outright kills Quark and simultaneously has the villagers of Burg captured.
Well, that is me subscribed then. Keep up the good work.
This game was awesome because of the outtakes.
wow these Lunar games look cracking, I don't think I've played any of them
Very nice review.
One of the best jrpg many fond memories in it.
I've spent at least a full 24 hour 2 month worth of my life playing lunar 1 and 2 over and over
