Loving the week's update Sam. Looking forward to next one.
Another enjoyable video. I’m spreading the word over here in the north east about your channel. Continue keeping it real 👍
@@kevinsmith6653top man thank you. 🙏
Great video😊 Interesting to see the faulty NOX sensor. My 2017 E220d had an engine light that came on and went off again. Took it to the dealer and they listed the sensor at £750 ish. I have the extended warranty so no charge thankfully. I wonder if they'd have charged me if I didn't have the warranty. Last month I had a service and MOT. They spotted a leaky diff seal, £950 as the warranty doesn't cover seals 😢
Keep the videos coming, I'd love to see a buyers guide for a W222 S class 😎
This is for sure one of the best ones you've done! Digging into some welding was an interesting challenge! :D and the Car Show was pretty sweet too, it really kind of showed the car scene out there which is very similar to a lot of ours. Idk if you ever get a chance to make it to the states but a little well known secret is in Mansfield, Ohio. The car culture is pretty awesome. Car shows randomly starting up beside the main road here have street racing battles almost and cops just sit and watch XD It's pretty sweet actually. Mercedes has MCBA meets around Cincinnati, Ohio too. Anyways, keep up the great content brother man!
Great video- it amazes me how people decline work that is clearly a safety issue. Better to replace those brake pipes and not risk the possibility of brake failure.
Sometimes customers might choose to do certain repairs themselves. Or sometimes customers might want to inspect the issue themselves to see with their own eyes how bad the issue is first.
A huge amount of people currently are no longer living, they are operating in survival mode. They Just want to get through the day and believe bigger things may kill them before next month's paycheck. So they are not too concerned about a faulty brake pipe that may kill them in 6 months! Not being patronizing, just saying how it is!
@@asadzeethree2726 You’re right and I totally sympathise with anyone who hits hard times. A Mercedes probably isn’t the best choice in that situation and it’s not fair for every other road user and pedestrian to have to share that risk with you when it comes to brakes.
“Nah don’t need no brakes pipes mate”
These people drive amongst us.
I like these weekly videos. Let's keep the ball rolling and good job on all the work that you do. You are thorough with the checks that you do even if some of your customers don't appreciate the effort.
I appreciate that!
Always put VPower in all our vehicles. Ethanol gums up the cylinder heads. Another Woke nonsense.
Lucky you are a Merc specialist, they will keep you in business for years . I like the new format, excellent.
Keep it coming, mate. These keep me going.
The weeklys are excellent 😊 You're a good boss 😄
Declining a corroded brake pipe is just dangerously stupid on any make of car. If you buy a Mercedes you have to expect higher maintenance costs. Great vid as always.
A very informative video about the trials and tribulations of running a specialist independent workshop, I hope that it opens at least a few people's eyes! Please keep up the good work with these videos, alongside the more specialised content. I also attended the same show at Gaydon and especially enjoyed the museum as I worked next door at Aston Martin several years ago and never got the chance to pay a visit!. I believe that the show itself grew out of what was originally the Audi Owner's Club event hence the emphasis on VAG marquees. On the row behind the C63s were a number of classic Mercedes cars from members of the official Mercedes-Benz Club dating from the 1970s to 2000s and hopefully there will be more in attendance at future shows although the club operates several hundred events of varying sizes of its own around the UK over the course of a year as well!
"Keepin it real" should be under your logo on your hoodies.
Editing is spot on.
Rees is a star in the making - he's like a little Merc Gimp
(just kidding Rees. Looking forward to watching you grow and gain experience)
😂
Another great instalment, nice to see you out and about as well as the usual workshop content. In my vastly limited experience compared to yours, Mercs (or at least mine) seem to eat tyres and springs...
well done taking your staff to a chill out day
So informative about the foibles of running a garage business. Keep 'em coming. These updates match and better anything else on TH-cam.
That’s good to hear, more to come. Thanks 🙏
Anybody guys using Momentum 99 Tesco fuel, is it any good?
There momentum 99 is good yes
Used it for years no issues
Top notch !
What a brilliant video and insight into your business,I’m amazed at how many faults of different natures come with what is supposed to be a marque of vehicle which look good but hides a multitude of sins across the range,FairPlay to your honesty.
Customer declined work to a brake line that is clearly going to fail.... unbelievable.
Putting your own life at risk and those of other motorists .... 😮
This isnt like turning down an antibacterial clean at the dealer. What are people on?!
Forgot to say, I have a long (130+ mile motorway commute) and my W205 C63 can get over 39 mpg. I didn't buy a V8 for economy, but it's nice to know it can deliver it.
Kinda making me scared of getting a phone call from spr saying "hope you cashed out your life insurance"
😂
Another really good video, I don't own a Mercedes, but surely for the price they cost they seem to be doing things on the cheap,
The weeklys are good!
Another great vid lads. Really good to see what you have to deal with on a weekly basis.
Thanks guys, another good video 🙏
Really enjoy your honesty - also you make the techy bits interesting. Keep up the good work.
Thank you very much!
Another great and learning video from one of my favourite garages on YT! Keep up the good job 👍
Awesome, thank you! And glad your learning that’s the main thing
Legends of the Game
👍👍 SPR Autos
Just goes to show old is gold! I'll stick with my M112 and M113 💪 nice work fellas 👏
112,113 👌👌
Great content as always really mixed bag of jobs ,cant wait for the next video ......shocking lead time on parts from manufacturer's
Thanks 👍
Heck yea, this is pretty cool! Thank you for such an honest perspective of life as a mechanic working to keep these machines alive. They don't make cars like they used to it feels like, the A35 issues are absolutely unacceptable. Just looking at that engine actually scares me for some reason.
love these weekly's there bang on cannot believe that people drive cars like that c class with the 2 fubard tyres and dont replace them its beyond me always got told if you carn't afford to look after brakes and tyres you shouldn't be driving a car unbeliveable. keep them youngens busy but good on you taking them to the car show, not many gaffers would do that.
My favourite channel all day long , And M539 guy. And tripple 777 garage Edd Eddie ,
I watch your excellent videos for your expert knowledge, and explanation of repairs, I run a CLK W209 Cab, 2004, and will bring her to you for my B service , you are doing fantastic videos, it must be so frustrating to send back an un repaired car, and for MOT testers not being able to remove panels for inspection, that's crazy. Everyone like and subscribe.
I have grown very interested in these weeklies. It's scary how the prices have soared, though. I can understand why people decline work but all those cars seem to be poorly maintained
so, "we're" really paying for the body and luxury, rather than mechanical excellence.
14:53 FarRoad tyres.
You just got to love the names these Chinese manufacturers come up with.
Excellent as always, great to see the lads out at the exhibition 👍
Like the way you explain things. One point about the use of petrol I have a 2019 GLA 180 with a chassis number 156 and an engine number starting with 270 do you recommend using E5 in that as well? Amazed at how many cars must be off the road as a result of the lack of parts from Mercedes. Really surprised at the way some customers treat their cars. I can understand how frustrating it must be for you.
I like the fact that you check under the plastic cover under the cars as I wondered why I had this explanation added to my MOT on a previous ca of mine being a 2012 C class estate when it was tested. So thanks for that. Makes me question whether Mercedes dealers check under these when they carry out MOT's.
Yes Use e5 high octane fuel all Benz should be really.
Keep these weekly's coming, they keep me going as I am a JLR specialist and it is nice to see someone else explaining our struggles
Yes we have to stick together, hopefully customers are learning what actually goes on.
Really enjoy your videos. Just had a NOX sensor replaced on my w213 e-class. Cost me just shy of £700 at my local mercedes specialist. Wish I had known Mercedes-Benz dealers were replacing them as a courtesy. You stated that you would recommend all petrol car owners use premium unleaded to protect the head. What is your view on diesel cars using premium diesel fuel?
People who drive a premium brand car but won't get the gearbox serviced or replace a broken front spring because an mot tester didn't notice it.
Mercedes dealer had ml nearly four months for warranty job on brake servo, they payed me just shy of four grand compensation as they didn’t have courtesy car to give me. I got it back with a cracked windscreen , the dash wash lit up like a Christmas tree and the car was scruffy. They sent me a video of the so called faults that were not present when the car was checked at my house to validate the servo recall and price to fix. I declined there offer , charged my battery and all of sudden there was not a warning light on the dash. I’m Mercedes mad but I dislike the stealers. I take my hat off to genuine people like yourself however I recognize you still have to make a living, good luck for the future.
safety vs quality will always be an issue, wonder how many times you type " customer declined" in one day
Great video!! I can’t believe how long it takes to get parts… is it because the cars are so poorly made that these faults are common or some other reason? I can understand work being declined if a customer is working within a budget… safety first though!
The declined work indicates to me that the car owner has champagne taste, but a beer budget.
Loving the videos, please keep them coming.
Having to wait until December for ABS sensors is not on frankly. Mercedes need to get their poop together. Can you source quality aftermarket for your customer?
For all the customers declining work, Mercedes are not an ideal vehicle if you are on a tight budget, maybe something like a Fiesta would be a better choice.
You remind me very much of Jack Dee with your very dry and deadpan presenting. 🙂
We exhausted all aftermarket brands also, we have now managed to source a genuine part and get them back on the road
Please check out Troy Hiilliers 1962 190sl over a 2004 SLK AMG. I'm sure it's a 3.2 s/c v6 but wow, what a build. Absolutely astonishing
Really good insight in to how a garage works. I don`t get the declining work thing unless your doing the tricky stuff and diagnosing the easy stuff and they`re taking it somewhere else cheap or DIY`ing. I dunno.
As they say Tell it like it is, what more can you do.

You missed that red R107 that was next to the 109E. I saw a 1984 R107 380SL on display at Mercedes-Benz of Bradford (my local dealer) along with a 1958 W121 190SL. The W205 owner was a fool to decline the broken spring even though it should've been picked up on the MoT. If that gets worse the results could be catastrophic. I'm lucky my OM646 powered W204 will run on cheap diesel without any problems. That SLK is identical to the one that was featured on "Wheeler Dealers". The S204 owner shouldn't have declined those brake pipes. That is an accident waiting to happen and as you said, the MoT man won't be able to pick up on that because they're not allowed to remove the covers. I like how you keep it real. I do the same on my own channel.
Hahaha. Yes Sam, you are keeping it real. I do enjoy the weekly vlog. Please keep them up. A few observations... only a real Merc fan will work on them all day, and then go and look at them at a car show... only a real Merc fan will know which series of 190 had rear headrests as an option... you make everything look quite easy Sam, and... with your spanners, you sound like my wife when she proudly shows me a new pair of shoes she's bought, "they were so cheap I couldn't afford NOT to buy them!!
😂😂 thank you glad your enjoying, I think we’re going to keep it up. 👍
Really enjoy the weekly format 👍
SPR, question for you, Sometime later this year/early next year, I will be on the hunt for an E63. Which engine should I be looking at? I'll be lookng at around a 2014 plate so there's the 6.3 N/A engine of the 5.5 TT engine. Your thoughts are most welcome. As said before.... It's a dam shame you are located far to far away from me :(
You can’t buy a 2014 with the 6.3 na so you will have to get the 5.5 twin turbo if you want a facelift e63 👌👍
That car ride: The Silence of the Lambs.
Enjoyed that thanks. Interesting that the relay pack was the issue on the SLK. I had one a few years ago with the usual gearbox oil leak into the wiring. Spent a fortune on various fixes, without success. Now wondering if mine had the same issue 😂. It's scary how many people decline critical safety repairs.....
Love the portrayal of real garage life, it's not at all easy is it... I really can't believe the lack of spares from MB, it's really poor from them.
Certainly is not an easy task, and let me tell you this is a snippet of what I deal with.
Just to let you know that I’m a mechanic, and I think you’re making a really good job of your channel. Interesting and real world. Also interesting about the mot tester missing that spring. The place I use for my customers mots keep doing the same thing.Probably should have gone to specsavers!!
Thank you very much! Good to have mechanics follow us Aswel as you can relate.
That's ZAR 41 a litre for petrol!!! 😵💫I thought we had it bad at around ZAR 24 a litre for 95 octane which is roughly £1! 🥴
@@KyleJHB That’s what happened when the lunatics running the country sold out our energy independence. We import fuel yet we have enough in the North Sea to supply ourselves and export some.
The E5/E10 petrol fiasco dread to think if a E15 version hits the forecourts what will it do as regards driving vehicles off the road and into electric motors is it a ploy ? Great working week vids though.
What a joke the MOT is.
A safety critical part, hidden by a cover, and that's OK?
I wonder if your customer would be so quick to decline its replacement if it was logged that he'd been told?
Accident not insured 😢😊
A tip for anyone running a Merc that needs super unleaded. Keep your fuel receipts. If it goes in for warranty work they will want evidence. It saved my warranty claim when my v8 turned into a v7.
I've never thought of keeping the receipts for fuel purchases but if the manufacturer says that a problem has been caused through using low octane fuel, producing receipts would help, one would think. I always use BP Ultimate fuel.
@@davidperry3531 It was the first question I was asked. Even when the turbo intercooler started losing coolant. Heaven knows what fuel had to do with that. My thought was it’s a cop out for them because it does state that super unleaded is required.
Great tip!
Like the format, had 1 Merc in my driving life let me down so many times and was finally diagnosed to have a rotted wiring loom found by an older mechanic in a little country garage. Yes that is right, ROTTED. Have been a volvo driver ever since and with regular servicing there has been no dramas.
Yes the old Mercedes had a biodegradable wiring loom
Love the content as always, can’t understand a global company like Mercedes and you have all this trouble getting parts ,it’s almost the case you own a Mercedes you buy a parts car for it
Tell me about it it’s madness
Enjoying the weeklies :)
i love your channel, having worked in the parts dept. for a mercedes dealership for nearly thirty years. i then went to a honda dealership and ran the parts dept. for twenty years. my observations on both makes is how more reliable the honda is. they're not without their problems but nothing like the mercs.
Thank you 🙏
30 years in the mb parts depo! There is some knowledge there, you must of been the go to man for the stuff no one else could find on epc
Great content, keep going
Love the videos on customer car repairs. It amazes me how you often say parts on back order from mercedes? Seems poor availability on parts?
Yea it’s getting abit of a joke at times.
Great video, fan of SPR 👊
Why do people buy a Mercedes Benz when they can only afford to run a golf 😂
Appearance. Same with Range Rover. Lifestyle cars
Great videos and subjects
Wicked video mate I would love to have a mechanic such as you here in London ❤
When it comes to spares availability, Mercedes need to do better.
They Certainly do
Great channel love the weeklys the a class with the direct injection engine is there anything to do with renault or is it a Mercedes engine
Not that I know of, but you never know behind the scenes
RIP Bruno Sacco: 1933 - 2024. The grand master of building a timeless visual identity for an automotive brand.
How can you not repair a broken spring ??? The only choice is do one or do both.
🤷🏼♂️
What is causing the shortage of parts from the dealership?
Would love to know. I have to say I did notice it since brexit is when it started
Loving these vlogs, recently bought a 57 plate ML280, 4th Merc , C220 CDI, CLK230, C270 CDI , so absorbing all the info I can, love the weekly shop episodes as well, I sadly had a Nissan Murano dci prior to the ML and a V6 Touareg for 7 years prior to that , but so far liking the ML keep up the great work, I found you via High Peak Auto’s channel 😃
Glad you’re liking the vlogs and welcome! 🙏
Love these weekly updates .i don't undersatnd how these customers decline to get there cars fixed .they buy mercs but can't afford to get them repaired.
When people buy second hand Mercedes, they should have a separate budget to pay for the servicing and repair work.
Do you just mean use premium fuel for Mercedes? My 2019 BMW X1 says it can use E5 E10 or E25 on the filler cover
I would always use the best stuff tbh
You are fortunate there to have E5, here in America it’s only E10 at best.
Best advice I ever had from a mechanic was to avoid supermarket fuel (momentum excepted) and use V power fuel regardless of the make of car.
OM651 boost leak middle of the engine , hear hissing when started and rev up. Any ideas? ❤
651, common for a few things, boost pipes and inlet manifolds are the common culprits
@@sprautosbecause getting 2 faults p2263 , p00af92. Is there any more common faults? Does this vacuum cell supossed to hold vacuum? th-cam.com/users/shortsnFGFaoo01g4?si=oUN8Uw0ZEJvPbiaw . Cheers for reply. 😊🎉
I do this thing where I look up the cars that you are fixing on auto trader c63, a35.170 SLK and other models you said aren't in auto trader?
If a technician told me you need new brake pipes there's no way I'd decline the job. Brakes aren't a luxury there a necessity 😮
Customer might want to look at the issue himself first. Doesn’t necessarily mean it will not be repaired.
Yea probably get them done at a cheaper garage than my self.
Well I least I hope they do anyway.
Why would anyone not have that spring replaced??😂
That brake pipe WILL burst in the next few weeks/months. People are odd.
NoX sensors are a pain in the arse on 07-12 BMW petrols with direct injection. They are about £450 and only the BMW ones (made by Continental) seem to work.
Love it… funny thing. My neighbour’s W205 failed MOT on that Nox sensor this week haha
2:40 25.6 mpg = 10.9 km/l
(Conversion by Google. Not sure if those are US or UK gallons)
Price of fuel is per liter but efficiency is expressed per gallon. 😁
Love the daily work shop reports maybe you could give more of the costs that are involved on purchasing and costs of installation of parts great show I’m thinking of buying a C43 estate 2000 model (Amg)
Always hugely interesting. Thank you for sharing.
Amazing how poor the general quality of the newer Mercedes are. When you see the difference to the older cars, but Mercedes were once extremely expensive relative to other cars and now they are premium (image) mass market items. It also shocks me how people will drive around with major defects and still not fix them when they’re pointed out. SPR seems very transparent but I guess most people just think garages are looking for extra jobs to boost the invoice. People just don’t have basic knowledge these days.
I’ve soldered the k40 relay to fix loss of kompressor. Have you tried that rather than replacing whole relay box ?
You'd be better buying a bicycle !!?
😂😂
Loving the weekly updates, thank you. Did you notice the reg plate on the SLK? Maybe he should speak to the SL customer.
Re fuel. I put V-Power in my R171 SLK55 AMG for five years as per MB instruction. I now have a 2017 R231 SL500 which I was pleased to be able to run on 95 Ron again as per MB. Do I need to go back to V-Power? I hope not…..
Yea get it back on v power. Your car deserves the best.
Great content as usual ,hope mines ok next week
As no fuel go on inlet valves with direct injection engines to keep them clean, I’ve read coke build up is a common problem with other manufacturers cars.
I wish you had shown the inlet manifold on the SLK r170 that's the same engine as mine if it's a 23L and I've got that breather pipe issue that's split what Mercedes don't seem to know what it is I don't know!. I sorted out the dipstick for the transmission the plastic indicator near the spring has the plastic jetting out either side and it was catching so I just melted the plastic and doesn't catch now! I wonder if the indicator is correct on the dip stick I've got? I had to pull some oil out the gearbox what's helped it was not kicking down properly and since drawing out about a litre it's seems to be ok now but it's still showing higher than normal on the dipstick, i remember you use the dipstick the same as mine 1.2 meters how long is the plastic indicator on the dipstick? I would say at a rough guess it's about three inches on mine is that correct?
Somebody should send these updates to Merc's CEO in Germany so he understands what Merc ownership has become (and the costs) and why their cars depreciate so much.
They make more money from parts and service than from selling cars. CEO will be delighted 😂
@@seanpaul3050 keeps merc mechanics in the lap of luxury too ;-)
What I have deduce from watch you, is don't buy Mercedes unless you have lots of money to spend
I'm really sorry that you have to deal with so many cheapskates who are too thrifty to keep their cars in good order. These are great cars, but they need maintaining and you deserve to get the jobs. As you once pointed out, one may get these cars for cheap now, but one is still maintaining a high-end German car. This cannot be done for peanuts.
Love it the sound she makes ❤😊
I would have loved spending the day at the car show with my handsome chap 😊🚗🏎️👌
I hear these days with the current economic climate that owners are trying to save money by skipping services or not getting maintenance of their cars performed. This is uneconomic in the long run, particularly if keeping the car and in the case of brake lines etc potentially very dangerous.
Registration number on all glass means if anyone steals car, they have to change all glass to have fake registration plates, not cheap.
