Regarding the reach numbers of the new Chilcotin: Firstly, as Nic mentioned here: 3:05 this is our approach to the new Chilcotin sizing wise. We had a lot of riders who felt this way and the new sizing addresses this. Additionally - we HAVE moved the frame size transition height up a bit: so, previously a medium would fit say: 5'6" to 5'10": it's now about 1" (25mm) larger in height. So a new Medium would fit around 5'7" to 5'11". The sizing of all the new 2024 models was shifted this way slightly for a couple of reasons: 1) The Tyaughton was actually our most progressive bike geometry wise and all of the full suspension bikes felt "tight" compared to riding the Tyaughton. They are all now much better aligned fitment wise. 2) We needed to create some room in our sizing range for the introduction of the XS frame sizes in our full suspension lineup (i.e. the new Endorphin as well as a new upcoming model). We shifted the sizing slightly to the larger end of the spectrum. Please see the sizing chart on the Chilcotin website here: knollybikes.com/products/chilcotin-170 and don't hesitate to contact us or any of our resellers with questions.

The new Chilcotin looks pretty sweet. Build kits have solid parts with no junk. My only complaint is the mismatched fork/shock brands on a couple of the builds as my OCD cannot handle that. I would parrot what VanCan said, do not be afraid of the longer numbers. The Medium Chilcotin numbers are very close to my Medium Canyon Strive CFR (wheelbase within 1mm, reach on CFR is up to 485, stack is within a few mm, strive is a little slacker, Chilcotin has a slightly shorter seat tube, chainstay is the same as I measured my CFR at 442mm). I am 5'10" and was worried that the long wheelbase and reach might be a hair too long, but I can say I have never felt as right on a bike in terms of confidence and control, so I imagine the Chilcotin would provide a similar experience.
I'd hop on one at shop if you can. I find they feel shorter than the number imply. It's not a small bike but it's nothing crazy. At 6ft I chose to go with a large and that fits my riding style well.
Over forked, it may not be a zippy climber, or at 170 travel configuration. But that's where the 155 version would fit in, i imagine. It's pretty cool that you could have 2 bikes with just a shock fork change
I ride a Large Gen 5 and the Medium Gen 6 is bigger in a lot of spots. Based on their recommended sizing (by height) I'm exactly in between. Glad you commented on that aspect.
Same boat...6' on a good day, on L 5th Gen. I also have a Tyaughton that I think fits large but rides absolutely wonderfully! I never question Knollys recommended size when I'm riding, they just always feel so right.
Don't focus on reach - focus on ETT (Effective Top Tube). This will dictate fit much more than the reach measurement will. If you are 5'11", then for sure you should try out both medium and large to see which fits you best. If you're 5'10", you will probably be happiest on a medium. If you are 6'0" tall, almost certainly you'll be happiest on a large. This - of course - assumes that you have "Very average body proportions" meaning relatively normal inseam length relative to your height, etc... :D
Almost 4 years ago you did a video on a SC megatower V1 doing the exact same trails. You were testing the Large frame, and if i recall correctly, you were impressed by how much of a big bike it was (at that time). You ended up with the Enduro, which was bigger i think. My point is, that Large SC was smaller than the medium chilcotin gen6, which is fine, and i get it. My question; isn't the true test of those frames going uphill instead of going down? I just read Henry’s pink bike review of the new chilicotin 170, which he states is way too progressive having to choose when and where to brake due to rear end instabilty and that the rear end/rim and tire will be “ punished”. If I wanted pushiment from a squish rig I would just ride my hardtail. Also , he states that the bike is a step in the right direction. I want a bike that is the direction !! Can any knolly owners comment and educate me please?
Henry is simply way off base. As someone who’s ridden many bikes and owns the Chilcotin his assessment is incorrect. You can watch my videos where I ride the bike, you can observe what and how I ride . You can also ask the Knolly owners Facebook group.
Sorry Nick I didn’t watch the bike build video me 7 Friends Took our chance to go out street riding yesterday before The UK went back to its normal weather wind and rain 😂😂 but wow she looks absolutely. beautiful specially those cranks arms are a piece of art
@@VanCan Do you happen to know what the progression curve is on it? I wonder if it's sitting in the upper 20s like the Transition Spire and Specialized Enduro or the upper 30s to low 40s like the RM Altitude (Altitude is 42% in the most progressive setting).
The reach and stack seems very niche, very long and low front end. I normally ride a size L in most bikes at 5'10" and this bike would be bigger than I'd normally ride in a size medium. My current bike actually does follow the trend of high front ends, it's a RM Altitude in size L with 474 reach and 638mm stack in the fully slack position.
@@VanCan Sure of course you are right, but I do think the stats on paper give a good hint to what it might feel like. Would love to try one. They look really good without the crooked top tube now. I do like to settle around 500 reach and 650 stack. This has a lot more reach and less stack, always curious how that rides.
Why do they use the superboost spacing in the rear, just makes it annoying to fit normal wheels to it. That’s pretty much the only thing that’s keeping me away from this bike
unless you have a high end wheelset already then it shouldn't keep you from getting one as most shops/wheelbuilders have no issues getting them. You can also find some good clearance deals on wheelsets as the are less common.
The spacer kit has been fine on my v5, but redishing and buying a 0 offset ring was annoying. I've had 3 frames and 6 rims I've built on the same hope hub, it's the most expensive piece of a wheel set and there's no reason to replace it. I wish 157 didn't exist.
Hi. Why can’t you keep posting videos in this format instead of "want to look like star wars" filter? Is it because you use gopro now instead of insta360? With the uber ultra view all depth and feedback lacks big time on them. Please keep it like this. So much more pro and viewable. ✌️
Reach numbers sound like only expert riders and above need apply. And why does Knolly insist on such low stack heights? Henry is simply way off base. As someone who’s ridden many bikes and owns the Chilcotin his assessment is incorrect. You can watch my videos where I ride the bike, you can observe what and how I ride . You can also ask the Knolly owners Facebook group.
Really thinking about this for my next bike what Size shock does it run
205x65
@VanCan shit lol just got new vivid 230×62.5 next year then keep up awesome works enjoy ur videos
@@VanCan So going to guess that the 155mm version is just de-stroked to 60mm? or running a 185x55?
Is this maximal field of view setting in insta ace pro?
Where do we get the pink version?
It was a limited edition and sold out already. We might have to pressure them for more pink bikes!
@@VanCan yeah man please do! Or purple. I'd def buy a pink or purple 💜
Anyone know what pedals he's running? Thanks!
chromag dagga
Sorry Nick I didn’t watch the bike build video me 7 Friends Took our chance to go out street riding yesterday before The UK went back to its normal weather wind and rain 😂😂 but wow she looks absolutely. beautiful specially those cranks arms are a piece of art
How many kg/pounds does it weigh?
So is there anything you dont like about this version?
Not that I can think of !
Usually you want long chain stays compared to rear Center (without a excessive Anti Squat)
But Knolly did it the other way around
how does the rear suspension feel compared to your gen 5 Chilcotin?
Pretty similar but a bit smoother with all bearings. A little more progression. And a little more pedaling support
@@VanCan Do you happen to know what the progression curve is on it? I wonder if it's sitting in the upper 20s like the Transition Spire and Specialized Enduro or the upper 30s to low 40s like the RM Altitude (Altitude is 42% in the most progressive setting).
Me Likey.
Aluminum > Carbon
Not huge? It has the same huge wheelbase in XL as my Forbidden Dreadnought that I consider a tank of a bike 😂
On paper vs feel. It’s definitely not a small bike but I’ve also ridden bikes that feel bigger
@@VanCan Sure of course you are right, but I do think the stats on paper give a good hint to what it might feel like. Would love to try one. They look really good without the crooked top tube now. I do like to settle around 500 reach and 650 stack. This has a lot more reach and less stack, always curious how that rides.
💪🤝❤
may i have one?
For sale now 😉
@@VanCan the point is i dont have the money....
as bikes get heavier, chromolly steel returns .
As an engineer, that cantilevered bottom bracket just looks odd. They must have seriously beefed up the metal around there (heavy) to compensate.
It's not cantilevered... a specialized enduro is, because the pivot is in front of the BB, this one is behind the BB and supports it.
This is the insta360 ace pro, their newest camera.
Looks dope and wish you keep or at least make 50/50 or more in same format 🔥🙏🏼
Reach numbers sound like only expert riders and above need apply. And why does Knolly insist on such low stack heights? I had the last gen Chilcotin and thought it was the least fun bike I’ve ever had. I’ve had a Delirium T and a Podium and loved both. I’d like to have another Knolly but not with those nutty geo numbers. Sorry.
Stack height is higher on this gen. I’m 6ft and ride a large and all I can say is don’t knock it till you try it.
I was looking at the numbers and even a small would be too big for me. Still very smexy!
I’d still demo one if you have a chance. They don’t fit as big as the numbers imply
157 keeps me from buying.
