    The wooden carved statue is Flemish, not flash, from the Dutch/Belgium area. I think it is a depiction of St. Lucy. She is carrying a cross which denotes that she was a matryr (she had her eyes gouged out) and she is also carrying a wheat sheaf which depicts the food she used to take to the poor. She is the patron saint of the blind.

    • @radio-pirol
      @radio-pirol ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Not sure about the St. Lucy as she is mostly displayed showing her eyes on a plate or something like that. I'm more thinking about a St. Walpurga as she is much more often displayed with wheat's and a cross.
      But I'm far away from being an expert…
      The statue though could be very old but it was undergoing a modern "restoration". It would have been colored back then.

      @@radio-pirol St Walpurga is mostly shown carrying a Crozier (bishop's staff) not a cross. She wasn't a matryr, but was canonised because she performed a miracle, saving lives at sea in a storm. St Lucy, or Lucia, carries the cross as she was a matryr, dying for her faith.

    The stones are gnostic gemstones representing Abraxas: Abraxas is a Deity in the Gnostic faith. In Gnostic cosmology, the 7 letters spelling its name represent each of the 7 classic planets-Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn .It was engraved on certain antique gemstones, called on that account Abraxas stones, which were used as amulets or charms. As the initial spelling on stones was ‘Abrasax’ (Αβρασαξ)

      A great eye on the phone! I was able to charge it up - this is why I never throw away old phone cords haha - and it was almost all wiped before being put away. A few text messages remained from 2015 and the only music was that U2 album that somehow shows up on every iPhone. (I've deleted that U2 album several times on my own iPhone and yet the songs just keep appearing!)

    Renee-The basket with the geometric design might be a winner if Native American crafted. Keep the opened box of plastic bags and napkins for packaging items you ship or sell. The Apple site can tell you how much the iPhone is worth; trade it in for a credit there or at the self serve kiosks. I think that Staples will even give you a $10 credit when you recycle “technology.”

    Elohim is Hebrew for God. Although google says its plural? Do look up for more info. The stones may have a connection to Israel. From what I read; some use the stones in prayer. There's a lot to read about all of the various types of stone and their meaning, but I think this is definitely a rabbit hole that you should check out. Also, the Flemish figure - do some serious research on it, as it may have some real value. I'm wondering if someone who owned this stuff left it behind and a family member had to clear out the rest of this persons items to satisfy a landlord or something? (I apologize if I offended anyone - I do not pretend to be an expert, by any means. However, I do think the stones are worth learning more about, if only to understand their use.)

    Great to see another storage locker video which might be a first financial step to your forthcoming trip to Europe. 💰 I don´t think that the Flemish carving is that old, it looks more like a late 19th century repro for decorative purposes in a Victorian household. Nonetheless it could generate a pretty penny on an online platform. Seems that the previous owner got a certain affinity to Asiatica, check all boxes, perhaps you will find some of these porcelain items as shown on the photos.
    Anyways, not a bad day for a whopping ten bucks, besides the scrap just the oak figure might generate around 100,- $ or even more. • @PaperandMoose
      @PaperandMoose  ปีที่แล้ว +17

      Correct, we do all have issues. It's just a general question that not only I ask, but many others ask as well. That question prompts another bigger question as to if storage auctions are rigged. This is a question many do ask especially in regard to seeing/buying units that are filled with expired canned goods, legitimate trash, broken items, or a unit containing only a few items. Did someone pay to store 5 boxes of long expired canned goods and scraps of wood and busted, empty cardboard boxes or was that unit "set-up" by a facility or did the previous owner remove what they wanted and left the rest?

    • @PaperandMoose
      @PaperandMoose  ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@elizabethscruggs1622 I would say that if you do want to get out of the storage unit, see if you can take small steps first - even once a week - to dedicate an hour or so, whatever you can handle, and begin the process of going through the unit. Take a box or two home, sort, and decide what you want to keep, what could be donated, or what is trash. If help is required, perhaps you could ask your sons if they would have some time, again it doesn't have to be a day long task, but just a few hours to spare to help out - whether that be moving the items or helping to sort. Inquire with other friends/family if they would be able to assist or know anyone that could help move things/take items to donation centers. Start small, don't get too stressed, and I'm sure you'll make progress in getting things cleaned out!

    If those are stones and not glass, they can be worth up to $700 a piece! My wife is more of a gemstone expert, but I looked them up on and some showed up on Etsy. I would look to see if they are jasper or agate. That one stone with the chicken head and snake legs is called “Abraxas”, I think it’s a Greek mythological creature. Anyways, they can be used for jewelry like pendant inserts or ring inserts.

    The screw in the carving looks like an older screw. It only has the single slot. Philips head screws are the newer ones.

    Renee, Found this when searching 'Jewish Intaglio': Historically, intaglios were carved from hard stones for use as wax seals.

    If your newer iPhone or iPad is lacking a 3.5mm headphone socket and only has a Lightning port then you can get a mini adaptor cable with a Lightning connector on one end and a 3.5mm headphone socket on the other end so you can still use old school corded headphones should you wish.

    Do check out the basket. Some of the older ones are valuable. Yours looks newer, but look up Apache or Pima.
    By the way. I used to work in Yellowstone for 2 Summers after high school. Glad we share a love for this magical place. Happy hunting!

    Renee, that box you found with the stones - Elohim is a Jewish name for God. So of what I could see, what you were calling a pentagram, could be the Jewish Star instead. Interesting finds you discovered!

    Asked some creaky antiques about your antique lady. The consensus is probably 18th century, and the image of a saint. I'm guessing Santa Lucia; one of her symbols is wheat. What she's worth...dunno. The stones with the markings are Gnostic gems, or so I'm told. Symbols of protection or something.

    Your oval-shaped glass items have depictions of Jewish apotropaic/protective magic. The figure with the two 'tails' is Abraxas. Many of these figures and ideas were also taken up and used similarly by the Christian/Greek world from Judaism. These glass items would have been used as amulets, worn one each as a necklace or a ring. Could very well be antique and I would certainly check with an expert before deciding what to do with them

    I think the colored stones with Kabbalistic words and symbols, which is Jewish mystical studies. They are called talismans, each stone symbolizes something different, God, and Jehovah are both names of God and there are other names. They say that whoever carries one of the stones is saved from all kinds of things, one for good health, one for success, etc.

    I found a Thulite pendant set in 925S silver today in the 'costume jewellery' section of my local thrift store for $2. It's the National gemstone of Norway, so quite sought after by American collectors. It already sold tonight for $30 plus postage. It pays to keep your keen eye out.

    Hi- I know that pentagram symbols tend to freak most people out but please be aware- pointy side DOWN may indicate devil stuff/ or black magic etc but pointy side up is pagan related which is NOT that. Either way, both sell.

    I know you said it was in storage but in my mind, I'm thinking it was 'lost in the move' as in someone packed to move, the movers moved it but lost part of it. It happened to my son when he moved across country. They loaded up his stuff, then picked up someone else's stuff, then another. When it came time to deliver his stuff, he was missing a few boxes. When he filed a claim on them loosing his stuff, they found his boxes mixed in with another person's boxes! The packing blankets and tape looks how they did wrapped my son's belongs that needed 'protection.'
