It's incredible how they managed to fit this game on a ps2 disc. It has all the stuff and even the cockpit view with all the details, few racing games had this on the ps2. It's like the PC and the 360 version but with a lower graphics, anyways... It's amazing!

In terms of content, the only things missing were the bikes, the Ferraris, a Maserati and manual transmission.
What about the PSP version?

If you like a wild and crazy driving sensation = NFS MW 2005 and MC 3 DUB edition remix

I always preferred the PS2 version of this game over the next-gen ones. Something about the handling of the cars was much more fun and arcade-like. I still play it all of the time to this day.
The soundtrack, the vibe the imersion, the menus, idk...
But it is more nostalgic

Yes. It was the steering animation. The next gen version feels very stiff and unnatural.
Melbourne House put their stamp all over the PS2,PSP version it was a much more focused arcade racer than say Eden Games' Simcade leisure life racing game.
As much as I adored the graphics and bloom of the X360 version the rest of the game feel bloated and underdeveloped especially driving physics forget bikes which were just stiff and frustrating to ride.

@@z_kokiiitoosDoesn't exist PS3 version, this game was only released for PSP, PS2, PC and Xbox 360. If you are talking about TDU 2, it have inferior physics and a lot of bugs.
@@Victor_2000sI do prefer this (7th Gen version) over TDU2, but TDU2 is still a pretty good racing game.

Lost my very first save file in TDU by accidentally turning the game off while it was autosaving. RIP 2007-2007. I learned to always disable autosave whenever booting up the game since.

The menu music on the PS2/PSP version of the game is worth the price of admission alone.
I was lucky enough to find this game at a local resale shop for gaming enthusiasts. I'm glad I gave it a try! I think the open-world aspect of it inspired future racing games like the FORZA series.

I had this game on PS2 and then got it for my Xbox 360 once I got it for Christmas in 2007. Such an impressive game for the time and this and the second one are two of my favorite racing games of all time. It's amazing how well the PS2 graphics have held up. I think this is one of the best looking PS2 games.

I did only played Forza Horizon 1, so idk about the other Horizon games series
But Test Drive Unlimited still has its own original vibe, like, going to the car concessionary of their own brand or buy a new house. It still impresses me tho. Actually I'm playing TDU2 on my Ps3 and I'm impressed more than the previous game, this game deserved more fame
Am I the only one that thinks that Melbourne House (the PS2 dev team) managed to make a better single player experience in the PS2 than the PC?
No, i think exactly the same When i play the pc version, ps2 version is pretty damn good in single player because of the championships, in pc version there are Only single races but 0 championships.
@@Gvilchis18 Not to mention that the PS2/PSP version's single player also has Clubs, which are only available in multiplayer on the PC/Xbox 360 version. Also, the PS2/PSP version's soundtrack is far superior to the PC version
The best way to experience this game is on 360 and PC, but the single player experience on the PS2 and PSP versions are solid enough! Melbourne House did a great job!
No you're not alone on this, the game's pace are much faster on PS2 more focused on racing and driving than Eden Games Xbox 360,PC version.
Handling are much better and tighter as well with far superior soundtrack few extra radio stations and Melbourne House' own TDU soundtrack.
The menu OST and SFX are WAY BETTER lmao.
The sounds cars make in this game while accelerating hold a special place in my brain and my heart.
This was my favourite game growing up. Such great memories. Just driving around for hours on end and getting lost in the virtual world. Just seeing this video makes me want to go out and buy a ps2 so i can relive it. I genuinely thank you for uploading this, seeing it brings back so many memories
You can play it again using PCSX2 emulator or PPSSPP.

Test Drive Unlimited, a game that technologically was incredibly advanced for its time and somehow was magically ported flawlessly to the PS2 and nearly flawlessly to the PSP (i remember getting this on the PSP and PC and i was in complete awe on what the developers were capable of doing with the PSP's hardware)
This game is overkill for the PS2! It really pushes the graphic capabilities to the limits!

This was THE Greatest driving game. Put aside shoddy physics, it beats alot out there.
I have been playing this game for a couple good years and managed to finish it and had all the cars in the game. Very good memories now I have a Xbox one S and I play Forza Horizon games

Ahhh, i remember spending hours going to the showrooms and test driving the cars because i was not skillful enough to make the money money since i was pretty much a little child. Fortunately i still hace that same PS2 working, unfortunatley not this game.

I always thought It was a open-world sort of tycoon game.Once I had every nice car and house I would be happy(I never did). It was only recently that I discovered that it was a racing game. (After 8 years mind you)

I love how the PS2 version have far superior soundtrack than Xbox 360 it have far more music on PS2 and check out Chill Vibes station, just pure Lounge and Drum 'n Bass heaven.

I still remember when I bought this, super-excited to drive these cars. Then mad as hell when I found out there was no Ferrari, Maserati...but it was still pretty fun.

Ps3 wasn't out during this game's development, sure the could've released it later, but the already had it on 2 Sony systems at the time.

This version might be better than the 360 and PC versions now since the servers went down. Getting champion rank in those games is a serious grind, however since this version seems to reward you for exploration and stuff like drifts and drafting, along with the racer point system, it looks more single player friendly.

You need to set the 'Blending Accuracy' to "FULL" to fix the road reflection.

I still have this in 2020 on PC and it has aged extremely well. The feel and game mechanics even by today's standards still feels relevant and holds a candle light to genres that adopted the same concept like Forza Horizon and Need For Speed. There's nothing like driving a gen 1 Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder with the top down in this game. It just doesn't feel the same when other games do it. TDU was so ahead of its time.
Im surprised that the little reputation bar in the top hasnt made it to the other iterations of test drive unlimited

You know, it's funny when you stop to think that the devs of this game are also same that made The Crew 1 and 2, bad thing TC turned out to be underwhelming in both entries, at least there's another TD yet to come, let's hope it will be The Test Drive.

I have a question about your graphic settings. It says you have "Allow 8-bit textures" enabled but also have Anisotropic Filtering on 16x. Wouldn't turning on 8-bit textures just disable Anistropic Filtering?
Sory i just copy paste the settings on my previous game that im using on PCSX2 v1.6.0 (You can enable both of em on PCSX 1.6.0)
