Yes, we use different tones to identify blue and black objects.

what color sensor mode do you use? RGB or HSVL, do you use the "V" from HSVL mode?
We used RGB in this case. But we found that HSVL and Color modes also work.

We use EV3 medium motors without gear system.

Yes, we used OFDL's blocks in this case.
