What a wonderful mix of music featured in your vinyl tag, Really enjoyed watching and couldn't agree about how hard it is to pick a favourite decade for music.
RM! Thank you for dropping by and watching my vinyl tag video. Glad you enjoyed, and quite honored to hear that too. Very hard to pick a decade, or a country, or to be stuck on a deserted island with only one record! That Mustangs record looks really interesting. Ever since I started watching other people's tag videos, I've wanted to change my country answer to USA and I think you gave the most compelling argument for that. I've actually heard that Secos & Molhados album. It's definitely one where the cover doesn't match what I expected to sound like. Thanks again for the shout-out!
Cheers for the message! Mustangs record is quite good :-) It just got something about it that isn't quite like any of the other records. I really love it. As far as choosing one country for music, I don't think you go wrong either way. I was also having remorse of never being able to listen to Pink Floyd again. But I remember one time back in ~98 when I was working at a little diner in Boulder, CO. I put Dark Side on and one of my co-workers said, "AGAIN!?!? How many times in my life do I have to listen to this thing?!?!" Haha. Luckily we don't have to pick. But come to think of it, Brazil wouldn't be a bad place at ALL to choose, and honestly, neither would Japan I've really come to realize of the year. Yeah, I can’t really figure out if it’s an official release or digital transfer is what. I haven’t looked into it THAT deep it I remember when I was trying to log it into my Discogs it was harder than I expected. I also have a handful of weird modern-ish bootlegs and there is something about it that compares. Having said that, would also love the official RSD soundtrack event just for the cover alone. I love that moment in the movie, when you’ve completely forgotten what it’s all about and are suddenly brought into the protagonist heart. Very memorable moment. One of the best scenes in any Wes Anderson film.

Nice video and a few albums I don’t know at all - its always great to get new recommendations. I saw Seu Jorge play a Bowie tribute concert at the Royal Albert Hall here in London about 7 months after we lost Bowie. Great response! Hands off Neil, Joni, and the Band, eh! 😉 Love me some of the Oden Red Everclear vinyl. And Japanese vinyl in general. You’re in vinyl heaven - enjoy brother! I need a good channel to learn more about Japanese jazz-funk fusion. Any recommendations? You’ve peeked my interest in the Brazilian record, what are they called? Need to check em out. Happy to find your channel. All subbed up. Looking forward to checking out more video. Happy New Year.
Haha, ok ok! Let's Figure this out. Ok first of all, hate to break it to you, but according to Wikipedia, both Join and Neil are "Canadian-Americans" Ok... fine you get to list Canadian first but they do have American Citizenship. Then The Band's Consequential (?) Members - 4/5 Canadian 1/5 American Rick Danko - bass guitar, vocals, guitar, double bass, fiddle (1965-1977, 1983-1999; his death) - Canadian Levon Helm - drums, vocals, mandolin, guitar, percussion, bass (1967-1977, 1983-1999; died 2012) - American Garth Hudson - keyboards, organ, saxophone, accordion, woodwinds, brass (1965-1977, 1983-1999) - Canadian Richard Manuel - piano, drums, organ, vocals (1965-1977, 1983-1986; his death) Robbie Robertson - guitars, vocals, percussion, piano (1965-1977; died 2023) - Canadian The Band's Inconsequential (? ...I know that's mean) Members - 3/4 American 1/4 Canadian Jim Weider - guitar, backing vocals, bass, mandolin (1985-1999) - American Stan Szelest - keyboards (1990-1991; his death) - American Randy Ciarlante - drums, percussion, vocals (1990-1999) - American Richard Bell - keyboards (1992-1999; died 2007) - Canadian Do you weigh Robbie more the Levon? Garth? Richard? Rick? What amazing beasts they are all! And then...
If you take into account The Last Waltz: The Band Rick Danko - bass - Canadian Levon Helm - drums - American Garth Hudson - organ - Canadian Richard Manuel - piano - Canadian Robbie Robertson - Canadian Horn section Rich Cooper - trumpet, flugelhorn - American James Gordon - flute, tenor saxophone, clarinet - American Jerry Hey - trumpet, flugelhorn - American Howard Johnson - tuba, baritone saxophone, flugelhorn, bass clarinet - American Charlie Keagle - clarinet, flute, saxophone - American Tom Malone - trombone, euphonium, alto flute - American Larry Packer - electric violin - American Other musicians Bob Margolin - guitar - American Dennis St. John - drums - American John Simon - piano - American Guests Paul Butterfield - harmonica, vocals - American Bobby Charles - vocals - American Eric Clapton - guitar, vocals - English Neil Diamond - guitar, vocals - American Dr. John - piano, guitar, congas, vocals - American Bob Dylan - guitar, vocals - American Bill Graham - master of ceremonies - German-American Emmylou Harris - acoustic guitar, vocals - American Ronnie Hawkins - vocals - American (Canada-Based) Michael McClure - poet - American Joni Mitchell - acoustic guitar, vocals - Canadian-American Van Morrison - vocals - Norther Irish Pinetop Perkins - piano, vocals - American Carl Radle - bass - American Cleotha Staples - backing vocals - American Mavis Staples - vocals - American Roebuck "Pops" Staples - guitar, vocals Yvonne Staples - backing vocals - American Ringo Starr - drums - English Stephen Stills - guitar - American Muddy Waters - vocals - American Ronnie Wood - guitar - English Neil Young - guitars, harmonica, vocals - Canadian-American ~7/38 Canadia ~28/38 American ~4/38 British ~1/38 German So...
If you "weight" the band, then yeah, I guess it leans Canadian. But if you add in the Last Waltz, which c'mon, you kinda have to, you get a HEAVILY weighted American pull. Then if you add Dylan in, that's gotta be worth something, then we can split hairs on Joni and Neil, and Yeah, technically Ronnie Hawkins, though based in Canada is American ...I mean here's the point. It's a wash, don’t you think? Can't we just SHARE The Band, I am after all, they are ...THE BAND.
Last thing, for the record. I'm 1/4 Canadian, which I'm very proud to brag about. So I feel I have a particular point of view I can talk about this. Perhaps all things considered, maybe The Band is at least 1/4 American. You gotta at least give me that much. I'm gonna take that much for Neil and Joni too... haha. I'm not asking, I'm just taking. That's the American in me.
@@tokyorecordstyle 😂 Brilliant! You really went for it - love it. What can I say, you put forward a good argument. I’m happy to share - it’s the Canadian in me 😂. Joni and Neil will always be Canadian at heart but they have spent so much of their lives in the US, they are as much a part of “Americana” as any of the great American performers … more in some ways. Being a bit of an outsider gives you a unique perspective. I’m willing to bet that played some part in their success. As for the band, I’m very tempted to give more weight to Robbie Robertson but that seems a bit unfair eh! And all that ‘stacking the deck’ stuff to sneak more Americans in … I’m not convinced! In the end, it might just be our greatest cultural exchange! 🇺🇸 🇨🇦 Thanks for the thoughtful reply, it was a fun read :D
Ohhh, that begs the question. What’s your favorite Zappa tune! HARD ONE! I might have to go with My Guitar Wants to Kill Your Mama I believe on You Can’t Do that on Stage Anymore Vol. 5 (as far as a “straight” piece of music goes). Downtown Talent Scout of the Lost Episodes is another non-canonical-ish tune I really love. Rat Tamago of Chungas. Peaches. Dynamo Hum. HARD!!! What about you?
@@tokyorecordstyle Oh - yes. It is not easy. Depends on the mood, setting. A few favorites are Chunga's Revenge, Pink Napkins, Zombie Woof, Uncle Remus, just about anything on Hot Rats. It's a stand alone hobby to be a Zappa collector. I also listen to his classical pieces. Latest is the Norwegian Radio Orchestra's take on Dog Breath Variations and more.
@@vinylizingprogger totally depends on the mood. And from Zappa there is something for just about every mood. In fact, a Bongo Fury just came over me. Hope you enjoy lots of Zappa in 2024!
Don't hesitate to share any Zappa news with me that you have. I'm pretty far out of the loop, but I did see Zappa Plays Zappa once and I also saw Project Object once. Sadly, I only got into Zappa from Strictly Commercial which was 1995, two years after his death. OH That reminds me. I saw a hilarious and cool sorta diagram about how to get into Zappa. I thought it was actually quite genius: www.reddit.com/r/coolguides/comments/oc7ewd/a_guide_to_frank_zappa_albums/
Good to hear! I am totally taken aback by his work in Secos & Molhados. I discovered a solo record or two of his along the way since but wasn’t into it as nearly as much as Secos. Happy to hear any recommendations or any intel at all you have on them/him. Is a Freddy Mercury comparison on the mark at all?
@@tokyorecordstyle Well, I have the two studio albums recorded by Secos & Molhados and a live one, which is badly recorded and I don´t recommend. However I have never kept up with Ney' solo career. He is a very good singer (yes, you can compare Ney with Freddy Mecury a bit), but I am not very much into his solo stuff. Maybe you would enjoy his first solo album release in 1975 or 76, but it is quite different from the Secos & Molhados style. And, by the way, he just did a concert yesterday here in Rio to a ful audience. Cheers, Nelio
Thanks for sharing that. I have both those Secos & Molhados Studio albums and think I've seen the live one but now that I heard your comment, maybe I'll pass on it if I see it again. Yeah, I tried to tap into Ney's solo career but it seemed that he really wasn't all that (to me) without that amazing band, especially that monster of a bassplayer. But I want to give a little deeper because I think they things I heard or say might have been from a sorta weird era, so I will look back at those 75 and 76 albums. Thanks for sharing!

For the record, I didn't pay $100 for my original pressing on Phish. I miraculously got mine for $12. However, if I had wanted to buy is on eBay 25 or 30 years ago when I got it, I think I remember the price being $100, which now seems almost reasonable for a super rare record, at least less absurd. But still entirely too much for an album.
Loved seeing all of those Japanese singles. And Clouds Taste Metallic! Love that record. It so needs to be reissued. Cool video. Looking forward to checking out more of your stuff.
Thanks for the comment! Yeah, it funny how the Japanese collectors prefer all the country of origin pressings and lots of people outside of Japan love Japanese pressings. I feel lucky to really love them both equally. I brought over a ton of records from the States but I've been here nearly 20 years and I suspect my collection is half Japanese and 1/2 non-Japanese now. Kinda interesting to think about! And yes, Clouds Taste Metallic is one of my favorites. I actually have a couple copies, one original I guess and then the sign one I showed I actually scored in the Heady Nugds Box Set: www.discogs.com/release/7867939-The-Flaming-Lips-Heady-Nuggs-20-Years-After-Clouds-Taste-Metallic-1994-1997

I’ve always wanted that life aquatic soundtrack. Surprised they haven’t done an official pressing of that yet
I think it came out last Record Store Day, well the official Life Aquatic Soundtrack which I guess is slightly different than the one I have:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Life_Aquatic_with_Steve_Zissou_(soundtrack)
To be honest, I love this movie so much, I would like to have them both! Haha :-)
@@tokyorecordstyle yeah the bootleg is way cooler. That movie was Wed Anderson at his best
Great response!
Hands off Neil, Joni, and the Band, eh! 😉
Love me some of the Oden Red Everclear vinyl.
Then
The Band's Consequential (?) Members - 4/5 Canadian 1/5 American
Rick Danko - bass guitar, vocals, guitar, double bass, fiddle (1965-1977, 1983-1999; his death) - Canadian
Levon Helm - drums, vocals, mandolin, guitar, percussion, bass (1967-1977, 1983-1999; died 2012) - American
Garth Hudson - keyboards, organ, saxophone, accordion, woodwinds, brass (1965-1977, 1983-1999) - Canadian
Richard Manuel - piano, drums, organ, vocals (1965-1977, 1983-1986; his death)
Robbie Robertson - guitars, vocals, percussion, piano (1965-1977; died 2023) - Canadian
The Band's Inconsequential (? ...I know that's mean) Members - 3/4 American 1/4 Canadian
Jim Weider - guitar, backing vocals, bass, mandolin (1985-1999) - American
Stan Szelest - keyboards (1990-1991; his death) - American
Randy Ciarlante - drums, percussion, vocals (1990-1999) - American
Richard Bell - keyboards (1992-1999; died 2007) - Canadian
Do you weigh Robbie more the Levon? Garth? Richard? Rick? What amazing beasts they are all! And then...
If you take into account The Last Waltz:
The Band
Rick Danko - bass - Canadian
Levon Helm - drums - American

So...

😂 Brilliant!
Thanks for the thoughtful reply, it was a fun read :D
Cool entry. Not his greatest tune, but Valley Girl I must say I would pick up on 7" in a heartbeat. I have it on a CD single somewhere.
@@tokyorecordstyle Same to you! I am hoping Dweezil hits the road again with more Zappa Plays Zappa.
I thought it was actually quite genius:

Yes, mate, Ney Matogrosso, the former singer of Secos & Molhados, is still alive and kicking.

I actually have a couple copies, one original I guess and then the sign one I showed I actually scored in the Heady Nugds Box Set:
