“More Than This” is my favorite song/record of all time, I still remember where I was and what I was doing in 1982 whenI first heard it.So cool.Lee Sklar is totally cool, always has been...
Thank you very much for starting the channel Mr. Sklar. Found the channel thanks to your interview with Rick. These stories and the play-throughs are amazing (not just adequate, as you always hope them to be).
Was listening to a couple Herb Pedersen albums from the seventies, Southwest and Sandman. Was thinking what tasteful bass playing, checked credits, there you were! Wonderful channel, man.
I first saw and heard you, Mr.Sklar, perform on July 7,1971, with James Taylor and Russ Kunkel, in Frankfurt, Germany. And was 21 and in the Army at the time...still have the ticket receipt framed right here on my bookcase. Loving the down to earth, home grown channel, no pretense, just a great presentation. (And I also was a child of 'Leave It To Beaver, Ozzie and Harriet and Father Knows Best...)..All the best.
Leland, you are very humble, we're grateful for the videos. When my wife heard More Than This come on, she came dancing in the room and now she's watching your videos with me. That viral spread!
oh God! .... i'm a "bedrooom" guitarist ... i love palying my guitar .... but damn .... the sound of a bass ... well played ... reaches my heart so deeply .... i just love it ... its the heartbeat for sure .... Thankssssss greetings from Portugal ...
Enjoyed the interview with Rick Beato. I too enjoy listening to cover songs. Four that surprised me because I didn't know they were covers, were Time Is On My Side by the Stones (originally by Kai Winding ), Go Now by the Moody Blues (original by Gloria Jones), Tear Your Playhouse Down by Paul Young (original by Ann Peebles), & Betcha By Golly Wow by the Stylistics (original by Connie Stevens). Of course there are dozens of others, but these came to mind immediately.
A drummer that i play with turned me on to your channel on Saturday afternoon and I binge watched until 01:30 in the morning. Thank you for sharing your life and talent. Have been a bass player for over 50 years but now i get private lessons from the best! Thanks again!
Leland Sklar has got to be the fastest growing TH-camr in its entire history. How freakin' cool is this? Somebody who is famous (maybe not by name to the masses, but very much "known" ) for actually doing something and bringing joy to millions over the years. Just awesome all the way around.
Aaah, Judith is so sweet, her voice...and I love all thé stuff with Pedro, a great, great musician. Stay safe dear Leland and thanks for all...from France
Beautiful version of the Roxy Music classic! * applauds * :-) It reminds me of a past Love, as it was part of her favourite movie 'Lost In Translation', with Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson :-) And those very nice bass harmonies in the choruses actually remind me of the ending of another Roxy Music song, 'Oh Yeah (There's A Band Playing On The Radio)' :-)
Hi Leland , love your channel , your carrer is so amazing ..How about playin the iconic Stratus for us .. I m sure everybody would dig it ... Thx for the great music you have made !! Cheers ..
Saw Beato's interview just before this. I gotta say you never deviate from your stories. You might tell it differently but the essence never changes...hmmm much like your playing. ;)
I always think that's how you know the story is true. If it never deviates from the main points then chances are the story is being REMEMBERED, and not MADE UP!
Lee, I think I speak for us all, when I tell you that We would love a yard tour. Nothing to compromise your privacy, but just to see the place you love so much and spend so much time and work in.. Love your stories, Lee. Watching your vids is a must in my daily routine now. See you tomorrow!
Thank you, always a pleasure to watch you relax and just play for yourself. No massive crowds, informal casual preformance, very cool and relaxing to watch. More personal than a live concert. Loved the interview with Rick, he is an excellent interviewer. He always asks such great questions. Looking forward to your next video...And Ricks too..
Judith Owen is an amazing artist. I’m fascinated by her ability to craft a new song like she does. And those gliss chords you did were fabulous. Each day you leave us satisfied, yet hungry for more. Glad you and Rick Beato connected. Stay home...stay safe...save lives!
This is one of my all time favorite songs. It takes me back to the earliest days of MTV and being introduced to the spectacular "Avalon" album which I still adore today. I had no idea that this version existed before now and I look forward to digging into the rest of this record today. Thank you for the video and, of course, the wonderful playing!
Interview with Rick Beato went REALLY well! The only common thread throughout the comments was that we all wished it was longer! Sadly as an Englishman I'm unaware of the gent you talked about who passed away, but given the current circumstances any death deserves a mention or the person can just get lost in the sea of mourning. By the way, you need to keep an eye on that guy behind you! It looks like he's been at your liquor cabinet!
That was such a great talk between you and Rick Beato! Pair an informed, engaging interviewer with an informed, engaging subject and magic can ensue, augmented by your typical droll humor. Gold. I ran across a really good-sounding version of Quadrant IV this afternoon, and, even with the brilliance of Jan Hammer and Tommy Bolin's playing, it's the bass that really drives the tune. What a performance!
After recently watching your channel and now I have to confess I'm excited to have found the newest on a long list of bass "HEROES" both due to your skill ,personality snd wisdom I can only dream to have the career u have but can do my best to show the same spirit towards music both my own and what I hear from all others
Mr. Sklar, you have done so much throughout your career. One of the things I am really enjoying about this channel is that I am being exposed to music I was not aware of. I have to admit that this was one of those cases. I love the way you incorporate chords in this song. Thank you
I saw you playing with Judith in Edmonton, Alberta and had a nice chat with you after the set (opened for Bryan Ferry). And then once again in Los Angeles with Phil.....As always....great playing!
Joe cocker was the best of cover mans. Not even one single song was wrote by him. I realize that when i bought a cd of him at book of new york. AND read the credits of each song. INCREDIBLE!
Nice take on this classic ..... people might also want to hear Norah Jones ‘ s Bossa Nova version on Charlie Hunter’s album Songs from the Analog Playground..... brilliant
I love Roxy Music but Judith not only made it her own it sounded like she wrote it. That was exquisite! Thanks Lee for turning me on to her music. And of course you always play the perfect bass line.
I just got home from work ( I’m one of those “essentials”) - I’m beat to hell but now I’m chilling here after watching your interview with Rick. Thank you so much - my chill level increases and my blood pressure decreases 🖕🏼🙏🏻
Psychologists have coined a term for people who act pleasant and deferential to authority until when they're not being watched, and tha'ts when they do whatever they want and cause trouble: Eddie Haskell Syndrome.
My favorite Roxy Music song of all time. Currently, Leland, your channel is the only good thing in my life. Please don't ever stop - you are the thread that I'm hanging onto until I can muster the courage to arrange my exit from this planet. Thank you for keeping me afloat in the mean time. You are one of the rare ones, for sure.
Thanks Leland another great one. I watched both Beato and your Berklee interview. Outstanding. I have concluded your really flow musically when you play. You glide along and it really adds to the songs. Please keep doing what you do here. It is wonderful
WOW! What an awesome interpretation of that track. I 100% agree that so suits the song. Having been brought up on Bryan’s work, it’s amazing to hear something like this. Another great video Leland 👍🏻
hello! is excellent your work as a bassist, when I was just a young I saw you playing with the group TOTO in Guadalajara, jalisco, Mexico, on Thursday 14 February 2008, my father took me to that concert, it would be fabulous if you could play TOTO songs. greetings.
Hi Leland! I’ve just seen a duet with you and Judith Owens playing ‘Jeans On’ and it was feckin’ excellent! But noticed also sitting you in that video is an upright bass, so am wondering whether you plan to use it at all on these ‘Pandemic’ videos of yours? It’s a unique and beautiful sounding instrument in its own right as I’ve no doubt you’ll appreciate!
Great interview with Rick. Makes me wonder how the art / business got to this position ? Did we really permit this ? Or just stand by and let it happen ? The part of the art that I loved has to be dug for now as many artists self publish and the industry that supported and developed new talent is no longer there in the way it was. Signs of stirrings for a new direction but a lack of coherence at the moment at least.
Lee, I’m listening to this expressly for the bass part that you do. The track is necessary, but my attraction is the bass. My wife is a violist and I love the deeper tones from your bass, the cello, and viola. Keep up the work you are doing as it lifts all of our spirits in a pretty dreary time. You are the greatest bassist in our generation, I’m listening to hear you!
I saw your show w/Judith opening for Bryan Ferry in St. Paul, Minn. It was fabulous & met you & Judith afterward. Somebody's Child is a wonderful album, play it all the time.
The video with Rick was great! Hope you guys talk more. I love the idea of a "What makes this song great" with a Phil Collins (or JT, or whoever) with you providing additional information/stories.
More Than This is one of the most exquisite songs out there. To hear both Bryan's and Judith's versions is an amazing treat. The richness of the material really lends itself to re-interpretation. Thank you for featuring this, Lee!
Trying to find that Turley Richards version of "Sweet Baby James." For once, the internet is letting me down. But I was happy to find it on the page "Les Musiciens de la la Westcoast Music." 😄 westcoastmusicians.blogspot.com/2010/01/russ-kunkel.html
Dear Leland Sklar, you cannot imagine how happy I am to see you play. Any more words are too much. Cheers. Thank you

as a younger guy ive seen you on so many live performances and its great to get to know who you ctually are as a person ! ...Living legend
Thanks, Lee. A pleasure seeing you each day. Best wishes from York, England.
Judith Owen and You = Magical duet - fit so well - really enjoy = Jean Gignac (Québec City)
I watched the Beato vid as soon as it came out. Big fan of both Rick and you!!!!! Thanks for what you've given us!!!
Excellent background on this and the new take. "More Than This" is my favorite Bryan Ferry work!

GODSPEED
Great stuff.... I’m UK 🇬🇧 based drummer .... haven’t missed an episode!😊👍
Woawwww... her Version is great. I love it.
Excellent... I really appreciate your videos. Deon from South Africa.
Was listening to a couple Herb Pedersen albums from the seventies, Southwest and Sandman. Was thinking what tasteful bass playing, checked credits, there you were! Wonderful channel, man.
Mr Sklar you should put together a playlist of say 5 - 10 songs that we can all go along on your Journey with you. Bit By Bit.
I first saw and heard you, Mr.Sklar, perform on July 7,1971, with James Taylor and Russ Kunkel, in Frankfurt, Germany. That's awesome, I love reading comments like this. That must've been a great time!
Thanks Leland, your videos are a lesson on how to write bass lines.
Leland, you are very humble, we're grateful for the videos. When my wife heard More Than This come on, she came dancing in the room and now she's watching your videos with me. That viral spread!

You put a lot of feeling into this track. Very nice tone and octave control.
Qué Precisión de tempo Humanizado👍 Por algo eres predilecto .

Aaah, Judith is so sweet, her voice...and I love all thé stuff with Pedro, a great, great musician. Stay safe dear Leland and thanks for all...from France
Thank you for introducing us to Judith Owen.
Sad isn’t it? It’s taken this long for us to find her.
What the fuck is wrong with the music industry?
Beautiful version of the Roxy Music classic! * applauds * :-) It reminds me of a past Love, as it was part of her favourite movie 'Lost In Translation', with Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson :-) And those very nice bass harmonies in the choruses actually remind me of the ending of another Roxy Music song, 'Oh Yeah (There's A Band Playing On The Radio)' :-)

Just saw the Beato interview, it is Must See!
That was Roxy Music’s version from their Avalon album. Was and is one of my favorite all time albums .........1986 I think.
1982, and I agree that it is a PERFECT album.
Ah....1986 is when I discovered it then. Thanks
I liked Roxy with Eno and Wetton
Leaning back and thought "The bass in this sounds great." Drugs are bad m'kay.
Would like to see that bronze by Wally
Wow, your interview with Rick Beato was SO cool - enjoyed every minute of it.
That is one awesome bass. Beautiful sound. SOOOO clean. Thanks Leland.
You sir are a Class Act and an Inspiration to all purveyors of the Bass!!!!

Bass sounding crisp and clear Lee no need to turn down- great version by the way- although phil manzaneras solo takes some beating!
