Hey Leland. I cannot thank you enough for the warm feelings and companionship coming out of these youtube sessions. Your films have become a real rock during this dangerous time. Thank you.
Thank you Lee for sharing these video's. Dubble thank you for bringing Judith Owen to my attention. What a wonderful artiest she is. Love your werk and you as a person. Peace from the Netherlands
Love Judith Owen. She’s so talented and a hoot to boot! Loved seeing you all perform in Sonoma County! I’m a FB inmate for the next 30 days, so keep the videos coming, and hope your hands had a nice healing rest!
A-ha!!! There is a passage in here that reminded me of something. It took me a few minutes to to identify the song, and quite a while to do the research. "Delta" on the CSN Daylight Again album. Absolutely haunting and wonderful. You, Sir, are a National Treasure. Thank you so much for everything!
Just searched Judith SHE ROCKS!! I found your BBC performance with Waddy and ? on drums Ebb & Flow -- you had a extraordinary lick on the last chorus BUT AS ALWAYS it was GLORIOUS! You have such luck spawned by determination and proficiency.
That was beautiful. Do a zoom session with tony Levin please! You two are like the twin pillars of post genesis bass-ing. Love the vibration! Btw, that’s a fine looking bass. German craftsmanship at its finest!
Nice guy with a big heart. Hard working bassist who learns parts mentally of each band member, child prodigy pianist and never embraced drink or drugs- all with humility and a wry, witty sense of humor. What's not to love? Thank you, Lee for the COVID era home videos.
HO. LEE. SHEEEEEEEE-IT!!!!!!!!!!!! That was, quite possibly, the best bassline I've ever heard........ That's why you are Leland Sklar and no one else is.
Dear Leland, you play as you are...thinking of the others before you. Knowing the others is essential to know yourself. By listening to the others members of the group, you know exactly where to place yourself to create unity. That's why your notes are exactly where they need to be... Thanks for being who you are. Happy 🎂 Debbie and Nick P.S. Such a great and cool song to start a foggy day...
Another masterclass in taste and note choice and placement in a bassline. Tomorrow - Lee and Rick together - my favorite two music youtubers. Can't wait.
that is what a bass line should be : totally dedicated to the song, and of course played like it should be too : with heart and soul. Thank you M. Sklar!
Awww that was such sweet playing Lee, and the sheer tonal beauty of the sound, is just sublime!! Totally having a ball watching your videos my friend. (Although I can be a day late catching them sometimes, just like this one) So please pass on my very best of belated birthday wishes to your sister and nephew. Blessings from Ireland.
Josephine is an absolutely beautiful song. Thank you. Something dawned on me the other day that baffles/amazes me: I have been a fan of your work from Sweet Baby James onward, falling in love with just about every album and artist that you happened to be a part of: Warren Zevon, Linda Ronstadt, Jackson Browne, JT, Sister Kate, Billy Cobham, The Section, Phil Collins, Stephen Bishop, Karla Bonoff, Leah Kunkel, Carole King, Willis Alan Ramsey, Gene Clark... I had a part-time job at a progressive record store chain from the mid 70s to the early 90s and followed the birth and growth of the LA singer/songwriter music scene, along with the development of the music industry in general, with immense passion. I said all that to say this: in all those years and thousands of records bought and many concerts attended - and even the many summer weekends spent on Martha's Vineyard, I never heard your voice. Never knew what you sounded like or the kind of person you were/are. But since day one discovering your TH-cam page about a month ago, it felt like I have known you for 50 years. You sound exactly as I expected you would, are the type of kind, gentle, observant soul I "expected" you would be - not that I run around thinking what people are like. Strange, but a good strange. Have a great day. Your birthday is the same as my mom's. There's still time to find you a card. LOL
Absolutely love your bass part in this. It really shows just how you're listening to the music and feeling your part. Thanks again Lee for these wonderful musical insights, and for your reaching out. See you on here again tomorrow.
I’m stoked to hear that you’re going to be on Rick Beato’s show! I’m one of the guys who’s been egging both of you on in the comments. I can’t wait to see where it goes, you’re going to have a great time, he’s super cool and is an absolute master of music theory.
What you say makes all the sense in the world. I tell my students to learn the whole song; the melody, the changes, the bass line, etc. We are teaching music not just bass. In playing I seek to play to make the rest of the band sound good. Thank you for these videos and take care!
So I came in to watch your video after I got back from band practice. I live in Indianapolis and we've been allowed out on a limited basis. My bandmates and I have made a mutual, limited risk pact. We want to work on our music, so we've given up fraternizing with the rest of society, except our significant others. We all work our day jobs from home so there's no risk there. After 3 months of not playing together it was wonderful to get it happening again. I'm the guitar player in the band, but to your point about listening to others, there's one thing that hit home. I love taking solos, but I still feel my best moments are increasing the fill and tension behind the vocalist. I think that's when people are paying the most attention, and that's where my impact as a guitarist is most felt. The times that I melt into the background with a well placed muted arpeggio. Thanks for your advice and council. Looking forward to hearing you with Rick.
Lee, your playing has always touched me starting with your album work with James Taylor since the early eighties. You have it all! Take care and keep up the great work!
Talvez seja bem difícil entenderes o que eu escrevo, assim também É para mim! Mas a tua música não precisa de tradução, ela é UNIVERSAL. Muito obrigado por dividir sua história de vida nesses encontros diários! E ainda com trilha sonora... Strange times, but, oyr times! Thank's a lot, Leland!!!
Dear Sklar, I don't know how to thank you for letting me discover this wonderful artist, it is since you opened your channel that I started following her ... she is TOTALLY crazy, and her husband is completely insane... I love her. I hope one day to be able to listen to "Second-Hand Sexbot". Happy birthday to your sister and nephew! A hug!!!
Love this song and I love your channel Lee! I look forward to tuning in every day. That Warwick is beautiful. Great to hear you and spend some time listening!
Very tasteful playing. Thanks Lee for these wonderful videos. When (and if) things return to normal, hopefully you will be on your some day in Canada and we'll get a chance to hear you in person.
The rattling comes from the guy in the chair next to you. It's praise! Beautifully played sir. Very cool! Interacting with other players live. Can't wait! Nice insights on knowing all the parts going on as a player to fit the situation. In a way that also gives you the perspective of the producer or writer as its happening.
Truly appreciate these videos and some insight into your enduring career. Also, how kind to share your wisdom regarding how to be contributing beneficially in a band situation. Thanks for the music!
I have enjoyed your bass playing since the first JT LP's. Your parts are just so smooth and tasty and they add exactly what the tune needs. I look forward to your daily offerings and your stories are just as enjoyable as the songs you choose to play. For what it's worth, I'm an LA guy (the Valley), I'm a hobbyist musician and song writer, we're the same age (I'm 73 in July) and we have the same middle name...Bruce. I don't think that's a very common middle name. Anyway, thanks so much for the moments of pleasure and calm you provide each day during this uncharted time in our planet's history. I for one am most grateful for what you're doing! Stay safe and stay healthy Lee!
Mr. Sklar, I'm really enjoying these videos. Your "war stories" about life in the road are fascinating and I could listen to you for hours! You seem to have played with everybody who is important in my musical formative years!! I don't sadly play an instrument (I OWN some, but don't "play" one properly) but I am an avid listener! Given your story about your sister and nephew having the same birthday, I thought you might get a kick out of my wife's family. My mother-in-law's birthday was 26 Jan, my father-in-law's birthday was 27 Jan and my wife's birthday is 28 Jan!! All three birthdays in three days just after Christmas!! Oh, the expense! I am really looking forward to your upcoming conversation with Rick Beato. It was because of his comments about your recent video that brought me here, so "Thanks, Rick!!". (By the way, you got his name right the first time - Bee-ah-toe!)
Very happy birthday wishes to your sister and nephew. I really appreciated the advice you gave about playing for the song. It's ironic when you think about it...we work so hard on our chops but that ends up making us write songs that just showcase our playing. I sometimes find it hard to tell if I'm overplaying, but I used to be a lead guitarist, so it's almost certain that I'm overplaying, lol. Looking forward to seeing you and Rick have a chat.
Watching your channel every day is introducing me to so many new (to me!) musicians! These and your stories are very refreshing. Thank you so much and I look forward to episode 1000! ;)
Phew, I really thought you were going to get “your lopper” out there for a minute 🤣. Another great video, one that really showed an artist “feeling” the music. As with all those at the top of their tree, you just make it look effortless. Happy Birthday to your sister and nephew 👍🏻
Your "words of wisdom" are priceless, and an inspiration to us all, thank you Lee.
Hey Leland. I cannot thank you enough for the warm feelings and companionship coming out of these youtube sessions.
Your films have become a real rock during this dangerous time. Thank you.
That right there, Mr. Sklar, is SKLAR! Goosebump territory for sure! Thanks!
Thank you Lee for sharing these video's. Dubble thank you for bringing Judith Owen to my attention. What a wonderful artiest she is. Love your werk and you as a person. Peace from the Netherlands
Beautiful song... Stay safe ❤️
That was magical. Thank you for what you are doing - makes the lockdown bearable. Love your stories and those beautiful melodic bass lines.
Love Judith Owen. She’s so talented and a hoot to boot! Loved seeing you all perform in Sonoma County! I’m a FB inmate for the next 30 days, so keep the videos coming, and hope your hands had a nice healing rest!
Beautiful song, excellent.

Beautiful song and awesome bass work
Beautiful song!
Really beautiful playing.
Great session today Lee and take onboard your advice!

Pure class.

thank you Leland. you are an immense comfort. love and respect to you brother.
Judith's 'Blackbird' shared @ Facebook. I hope it is ok.
Dear Leland, you play as you are...thinking of the others before you. Knowing the others is essential to know yourself. By listening to the others members of the group, you know exactly where to place yourself to create unity. That's why your notes are exactly where they need to be...

Holy shit Leland, if that's not the warmest, earthiest tone I've ever heard... I dream of achieving this sound.

Absolutely beautiful melodic playing. Thank you for these videos, they are a highlight of these strange days.

Very cool. Happy Birthday Sister and her Son ;-) - Rock n Roll. Amazing, Birthday for both on the same Date :) Wohow!!!!! :)
Great advice on learning all parts; that can be applied to a lot of things, not just music
That was just fantastic, to hold down the bass and yet be so melodic, so beautiful.
Very happy birthday wishes to your sister and nephew. I really appreciated the advice you gave about playing for the song. Your Warwick Signature Star bass sounds really great when you play it. Great instrument. I need to get one.
