Hey 👋🏽 Brian. Nice to meet you! I am Jamie. A single mom/engineer/backyard mechanic. I do all my own stunts and the stunts for the people close to me lol. I have this 2003 honda pilot (his name is Captain 👨🏾✈️)260xxx miles. he was throwing those codes. So 1st I cleaned the throttle body then I did the spark plugs and the could packs. The check engine light went off for 1 day and came back on yesterday. I found your video and was outside at 11pm in 30 degrees cleaning this damn thing lol. I didnt see you mention the gasket for it. My gasket seems to have deamination of the coating or whatever is on there just where the little corn maze parts are. So until I have a chance to go grab a new gasket I cleaned it up (of course peeled off the baggy paint/coating) but i flipped it upside down. So the corn maze side will have coating. And i guess I'll get a new gasket this week. Captain is a good lil truck but my baby is my 1999 f250 light duty... i have had 1 mechanic flake on me and one mechanic steal 400 bucks from me over these chains and guides. So I am going to attempt to do it myself. But i am scared. I have never done anything like that before. I doubt myself a lot. I am sure I CAN but like I said. That truck is my baby. And if I break him for real I will be devastated. Hes really a member of the family. I have had him for 22 years now. Would u mind if u email you and maybe you can give me some advice before I start tearing this truck down?
I just bought this same Honda 04 shakes after hitting final gear running great other than shaking. Let off a little it smoths out but comes back. I'm tearing into it. Thanks for your time.
Kool parasailing, I'm a skydiver. And a DIY'er. thanks for the good info, I'm learning automotive repair for five years now and consider my self still a beginner. Have a good day,🇺🇲👍🏻👌🙂and I'm a sub of yours.
(3:07) Brian, you recommend to replace coils that are 160-180k plus miles. How about the fuel injectors; should they be replaced? And what about blast-cleaning the valve ports? And how about cleaning the EGR passages? ...all as part of a 160-180k plus miles normal tune-up procedure?
So did you get rid of the codes and did the car started running good after the fact you changed that Coils and spark plugs. Did that work have the light? Pop out any time soon.. iam asking cause I have the same problem I changed everything like you said but ones again in a few days engine light is on why I ran out of ideas .... I'll start my car Cranks up, send my RPS starts going up-and-down until it goes all the way down and shuts off. So then I turn it back on. I give you some gas and I'll put it on reverse and quickly. Put it on drive and write out. But I wanna know why it does that shaking in the beginning when I always fill up my gas tank. Why does it do that if I've changed? Are my calls? What's bar plugs, my headers? Oh man done everything my gasket. Do you have any idea? What could be the cause of that problem Put it on drive and take off, anyone outther
Thanks for the comment. I should have said that in the video. I did mention that in the video description, but who reads that? Thanks for having my back and others too Bernarda!
Odyssey 2003 : 2 weeks ago error code 1399, 300, 301 -306! Replaced all 6 × spurk plugs, ignition coils, fuel injectors. Error codes gone and last 3 days had nono problem. And yesterday I feel smell of gasoline inside the cabin and "check engine" light turned ON...again p1399...have no idea what should I do..
Thanks brother! It's been a long time coming for me. I started off doing mobile repair. That's part of my names sake. Lots of 12-18 hour days before I got my 1st place.
Thanks alot man i really hope replacing the coil packs fixes my 04 odyssey i replaced the plugs cleaned out the throttle body as much as i could.going to save up a bit to get the packs im running all the same codes this odyssey is.i already replaced the valve cover gasket because it blew out badly on the highway.checkout your used vehicle before you get it im still learning that.and im a fellow ginger so awesome
Having the same issue, P1399 and random misfires on all cylinders on my 3.5 but only when it's colder than about 40f on cold startups. I guess I'll start with the EGR system, see if that clears things up. Maybe reseat an inspect the plug and coil connections. Spark plugs are newish, and I doubt I have any bad coils. Probably not a terrible idea to swap the coils, but I try to not fix things that aren't broken. It's not running that rough, but it messes with the VTM4 system so I have to warm up the car for 5-10 minutes and restart it if it's icy. At least I have a direction to go in, seems like a simple enough job. I guess another possibility is fuel injectors, probably should toss in a bit of cleaner into my next tank of gas.
Nice informative video! So I have basically the same problem with my 04 Honda odyssey. I replaced the plugs and cleaned out the intake as you did in the video but upon trying to start the car directly after it fails to start. Any ideas on what could cause this and how to fix? Thanks!
P1399 is a random misfire. Replacing coilpack/spark/fuel injector will take care of that misfiring cylinder only. You didnt really fix a P1399. A true P1399 will have to involve fuel pressure delivery, timing and opening of valves. Hence, Random.
even who designed this amazing Honda cant explain better than you. great job sir
Like how you narrated the issue and how you show and compare so I can understand the differences. Your audio is wonderful and nice and clear.

very good , excellent , thanks
great video brian
In addition to what you mention on Honda's, the valves get tight and can caused miss fires. The worst offender is the exhaust side!

Could it be possible for it to misfire for using 91 octane instead of 87? i drive a 98’ Honda Civic EX
Someday, hopefully, I'll gain enough subs to get myself a shelter with light and heat.... More content!
Love the variety Brian!

I have a 2004 Honda odyssey that was running decent then started running bad and making noise. So probably should replace all coils?

It's not just Honda, all these later model car's have similar if not the same EGR systems, all the best to you all
