This one has been in the works for a long time so any and all support is greatly appreciated! I know it's a hot topic, but let's keep things civil down here :) (also the music tracks are listed in the pastebin in the description if you're wondering)
I wished Nintendo provided resources to help game freak. They have 1-UP and IQue as support studios, they could have made some models to at least get a couple more Pokémon in, or made the game more appealing to look at, but alas that didn’t happen

One solution I thought it was Pokémon Home should have a Stadium mode where you can battle with your team from the cloud. That's the only solution I can see, as the games would be there just for the story and the new Pokémon, and then spend the post-game on Home battling until the next game and so on.
I am one of the anti-Dexiters. Pokemon Legends Arceus was unique enough concept and execution that no one (including me) cared that the National Dex wasn't in it. I don't play Pokemon for groundbreaking new storylines. Pokemon is very formulaic. The main series games are re-skins of what came before. I am playing the same game over and over again. If I am playing the same game over and over again and paying for it each time, I should be able to seamlessly transition whatever older pokemon I choose into the new generation. Every new game is just a game expansion and not an entirely new game and should be judged and treated as such. In isolation, Pokemon games meet the standards for storytelling expected of RPG's. When considered together, they do not. Consider the sequence of Legend of Zelda games since 2013: A Link Between Worlds, Tri Force Heroes, and Breath of the Wild. Pretend that these Legend of Zelda games differed as little from each other as Pokemon Sword, Pokemon Brilliant Diamond, and Pokemon Scarlet do from each other. In this hypothetical world, would you advise me to spend my money on the upcoming Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom? I chose Legend of Zelda at random. I could have chosen other successful franchises and asked a similar question.
@@emawerna I mean, it sounds like you agree with the vast majority of people in the first regard haha. As for the second, I think most people agree Pokemon could use a more drastic formula shift but many are also on the camp of “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”. I would say they already did do something interesting with the wild area in SwSh being converted into “sectioned off” open worlds in Legends and full open world in SV. That helped it stay interesting imo. They could and should be doing more, though, I agree
@@Dairunt1Great idea! I think the stadium mode having a little hub world you can chill in (possibly with your friends) would be cool, even if its in a top-down old-school pokémon style, letting you not just battle with friends but also interacting with them in other ways- trading mons, teaming up with them for double battles etc. I dunno how much of this home is even capable of, since I've never used it, but your idea is definitely awesome
What bugged me the most was the fact that they didn’t bring all the starters. Cutting some of the Pokémon to save time I can understand but the Starters are the most important Pokémon and the most loved by many people. I can imagine the amount of hate the Greninja fans had when they realized that the most popular Pokémon in the world was not in the game.
@@Jdudec367 he's referring to the fact that greninja won pokemon of the year back in 2020 and won the most popular pokemon in japan back in 2014. Popular here means most liked.
And at the end of the day, Sword and Shield are the best selling Pokémon games since Gold and Crystal in 2000. They’re not going to change a single thing.
That statement alone makes me really sad because its true! No matter how bad the game is and no matter how many people hate it, they still bought it and at the end of the day, the sales numbers are what matters😞 I can care less for BDSP but if they screw up Legend Arceus I am forever done with pokemon and lost faith in gamefreak as a developer!

I think it would be more acceptable to shed the dex if they had made more substantial game improvements. As it stands, they barely improved the 3d models from when Genius Sonority worked on them, and gameplay was just Pokemon as usual.
they were improved pixel wise with better resolution but honestly the animation quality from genius sonority games is still unrivaled imo. The pokemon looked way more lively and interactive
@@jeremyvenin8015 Agreed, genius sonority had the best quality animations in any Pokemon game to date. There was effort, heart, and soul put into each and every one of them and they actually seemed like living creatures. The ones made by gamefreak however seem more like little puppets, or proof-of-concept for how the Pokemon should look. The only Pokemon game I can think of that had more life in their animations would be the new Pokemon Snap.
Mostly fair unless you count Nature mints as examples of your definition of improvements (MINTS ARE THE ONE OF THE FEW THINGS I WILL DEFEND ABOUT SWSH TILL THE END OF TIME ESPECIALLY BEING SOMEONE WHO STARTED COMPETITIVE IN GEN 6)
id argue that it was less than the usual pokemon experience. since theres practically no exploration, the whole game is one linear string. even the caves. if, and I mean if, the games added the dlc as part of the main games in their current state (which obviously had a lot of polish from the base wild area...) the games would have prob been better received overall.
My problem with that whole thing was not necessarily the national dex being gone, if i recall correctly it wasnt in sun and moon and i didnt have an issue with it. My problem was that they just didnt code in some of the pokemon at all, and then i vaguely remember an interview where either Ohmori or Masuda said they wouldnt add back in the missing Pokemon but then they announced the Dlcs after which added in missing pokemon. I may be misremembering tho

It was that and stating that the reason was for high quality animations. A noticable amount of animations that got presented, even in the final game, are not really considered high quality.
Almost no one was talking about the actual "national dex" decide, but the availability of the Pokemon. Calling it the "National Dex" was just easier and shorter.
@@c0mpu73rguy They don't have to make all 900 from scratch every time though. The 3D models are basically done since 2013, all they have to do is tweak them a little bit and port them to the new console. The only models that have to be done all new are the new Pokemon and forms. This is true as long as they don't significantly improved the battle animations of the Pokemon. If that were the case, then sure, it would make sense to cut some Pokemon.
After watching this video, I’m honestly convinced that Game Freak KNEW that “Dexit” would be controversial- it was a marketing strategy. Plus, if people were bothered, then that’s a plus for Game Freak when they buy the Expansion Pass so they can transfer in /7nutrbmo the Blaziken they named when they played Ruby version for the first time and couldn’t read.
The thing is, you didn't need to buy the expansion pass. All the Pokemon that were catchable in the DLC were coded into the game with a free update. Meaning if you had a Wigglytuff named Jigglemuffins from FireRed back in 2004 that you've been sending to every game since then, you can still send it to SWSH once you download that update. Y'know, the same as you could send a Bulbasaur from Green to Crystal even though it wasn't catchable in that game?
Honestly, I wish GameFreak didn't have to pump out a new game almost every year. The BW2 chapter of the manga had to go on hiatus because of XY, and then ORAS came soon after that, so Kusaka worked on two titles at nearly the same time. They only had time finishing BW2 after that. BW2 was running for SEVEN years because of this.
I think the biggest problems with Dexit is Gamefreak's terrible PR, telling us that it was because they needed to focus on the graphics and animations when that simply wasn't true, and the fact that what we did get after Dexit was just a... fine Pokemon game. Not terrible by any means but people expected better. These games are the victim of a rigorous schedule brought upon by Nintendo and TPC's desire to have a new game every year or two. I truly believe if this game had an extra year or two in the oven then it would be fantastic, because you can see in some small areas where this game truly shines. The new Pokemon designs are fantastic and the trainer designs are great too, along with a lot of QoL improvements, in some ways it felt like Gamefreak was listening but it all got overshadowed by the bad things about the game- the cut dex, the inconsistent graphics (sometimes the game looks great, but the wild area is god awful), the terrible story and cut corners (like how the final two gyms just feel unfinished, there's not even a victory road!). I'm over dexit, I understand that it's hard to get 900+ unique monsters in one game and continue to pump out new games every year, no matter how big your franchise is, but I hope the next few games are a lot better than SWSH to justify the cut... maybe Legends will be that game? I'm also looking forward to BDSP.

If only there was some rhyme or reason to the Dexit but nope. Hell even the most popular Pokémon Greninja didn’t make the cut. Only including some of the starter sets doesn’t make sense at all. What exactly was the point of that whole popularity contest that Google held if the results didn’t matter one bit to Game Freak or TPCi?
The only old starters that made it in were the Kanto ones (to get Gigantamaxes) and the Hoenn ones (for seemingly no reason; I guess just to have them in the CT raids)
My best guess would be that they cut greninja to make space in the meta game for cinderace, as both are starters with a hidden ability that lets them change type when they use a move. Frankly competitive pokemon with both cinderace and greninja and dynamax acting as it does would have been a very messy meta game. Additionally battle bond seems like it would be a bit op in dynamax or at least it would significantly mess up the meta in some way shape or form.

What I don't get is, if the team was too small to handle these games, then why not hire more staff? I'm no programmer, but there's bound to be dozens out their who could help optimize these games, because they needed it. Just like Iwata did for Gold and Silver. If they don't, I'm not optimistic about the future of the series.
The team IS small... but its also not as simple as hiring more people. That would definitely help but most of all the releases between Pokemon games is crazy small. They have way too little time to work on these games. Hiring more staff makes communication more difficult (which is of course a necessary evil imo). They're basically trying to keep the closely-knit indie dev team feel despite making huge games for the highest grossing franchise in the world. They need BOTH a larger dev team AND more time to work on their games, they're biting off more than they can chew with the resources they put into it (and they have a heck of a lot more resources they could be putting into it).
I personally think the issue is a lack of transparency. Game Freak my have had good reason for what they did but did not articulate that very well at all. Yes, animations may have been the issue, as described, but the way they conveyed that made them look a bit stupid when we saw the animations in the game and they were exactly the same, not "better" as GF had inferred
Same here. It makes you feel for the developers who do the grunt work of making the games even more because they couldn’t fix all the Pokémon within the constraints they were given. So the cuts had to be made. I get PR is better if you don’t mention stuff that happens behind development, but the higher ups basically lying and saying the cut was for overall better animation was a severely terrible excuse to push.
@@thomasr.6669 it's probably a Japanese thing, not airing out internal problems and just focusing on external situations to show a solidarity to others outside that the team is working like a well oiled machine.
I don’t think Nintendo was involved that much with it, Yeah The switch wouldn’t have had a holiday title, but I feel it was TPC that demanded game freak to get the game out, time frame will not budge. I think Nintendo should just buy everyone involved with Pokémon, give the games the time it needs like what they did for animal crossing. Another idea is that a subsidiary of Nintendo makes a new game or provides support. Imagine a Pokémon game made by the Xenoblade guys or buy the luigis mansion 3 guys
Pokémon games are also affected by the anime, trading cards and other merchandise I'm sure the Pokémon Company tries to get games out before the new anime & cards release so they don't spoil new things in the games among other reasons Pokémon is pretty much the only Nintendo franchise in this dilemma Animal Crossing, Xenoblade and even Mario don't have to worry about that.
@Joshua glass there barely have any content in the post game so it still would have felt bare bones with or without the free update with extra Pokémon.
@@PeterGriffin11 the thing is that they should prioritize the quality of there game and put a halt to trading cards, merchandise and anime until the games are ready, either that or get extra outside help from different companies. There is literally no excuse for the horrible mess that was sword and shield. I am enjoying New Pokémon Snap a lot more then what I enjoy the latest newest mainline Pokémon games. When I feel like playing a mainline Pokémon game I could usually just replay my brand new heartgold copy or platinum copy. I don’t have to settle with gamefreak’s crap. If I didn’t own any of the older games I would simply play them on an emulator and not play/buy any of there latest garbage until they start listening to fans. Fans should just learn to play the older games on an emulator and boycott the latest games, that’s the only way you can get the newer games to increase in quality; if they lose out on revenue that is.
Except animal crossing was released half ass with a lot of missing content. Maybe that was on purpose but the AC Community has been begging for the missing content back as updates.

I still feel lied to. In good faith, I cannot honestly believe any of the reasons they provided as legitimate. Some move effects do look nice (anchor shot for example looks polished af) but that’s just special effect clip art that barely lines up (especially with mouth beams and blastoise cannons). The move animations are the only real improvement and cutting more than half the dex after forms and mega evolutions for that to seemingly be the only improvement is NOT a good reason Edit: considering move animations can be turned off, if your “improvements” are on a feature that BY DEFAULT can be turned off is it really even a saving grace? How good is your cooking if I need barbecue sauce to make it salvageable?
Not even that, in that interview they straight up lied. They said that they would not be adding pokemon into the game after launch, even though the dlcs were already planned out before that intetview even happened.
As someone that has at least some insight into how game development typically works, porting over the models from the 3DS games is probably less work than some think, but also more work than just copying over model and texture files and calling it a day. That doesn't stop me from feeling a slight sting of disappointment everytime I see that half of my Pokémon collection in Home has a mocking red "NO" symbol reminding me that those Pokémon aren't going anywhere further, at least for now.
Well, tbh I'm kinda in the "fraction" of "this infernape is my friend for 10 years", but that's also because Infernape (and Lucario) are my no1 Pokémon of all time and I transfer them (and ~25 other Pokémon) in every new Generation since I started playing Pokémon Right now they're all still on US, since they're not all useable in SwoSh. I would love to transfer them and see them on the big screen, but since so much (including some of them) was cut, I wont do it No, Pokémon doesn't "direct" my joy or happiness, but if I want to play Pokémon, then with my travel-companions tbh
i felt that cause my ace partner pokémon Ampharos i had since bw2 i cant tranfer and use him on the tv screen, it kinda sucks thats more than half of the dex was in the base game, its cool they added some back thru dlc but like why not all of them?
I honestly would prefer keeping old pokemon than creating new ones. Honestly, I'm not that familiar with the majority of them. I think there are probably enough pokemon to make an entire region feel "fresh" by just using different combinations of pokemon at different places .I feel like this is especially true with the pokemon you always find on the first route of any pokemon game. Those pokemon only really serve one purpose; an introduction to catching and battling. I think instead of adding new pokemon Gamefreak should prioritize making new ideas for the series. I like the whole gym and elite four thing, but if they want to improve and expand on pokemon I think they should just change it up instead of adding random pokemon. New side quests, more freedom, maybe optional difficulties, optional stories, and more things like that in general that utilize pokemon and encourages training would be much funner and better.
Astro Candy14 honestly gen 9 could totally still work as instead of a new region we can revisit an old region just with a new story, like gamefreak should had went with revisits instead of remakes cause its a great way to make a freash experience outta an old game like how bw enchanced games were bw2 which were sequels we REVISITed unova in new lens and followed a new story it wasnt just a prettier bw
I’m also pretty lucky, I got most of my favourites in, even if I didn’t though, I probably wouldn’t use them on my team cuz I prefer to use newer Pokémon in the newer Pokémon games and, if I transferred them into SWSH, all they were gonna do was sit in the box
@@Whale-Shark-Katie You should really do more with your migrated Pokemon if that's the case, trading my Regis with the Legendary Birds between Gen 3 Kanto and Hoenn games can extend the fun greatly.

The response to Gen 5 critique could be the reason of why the Pokémon franchise is where it is is now, but the Gen 5 itself was not a mistake by GF. It was just misunderstood back that time. TyrinitarTube made a video these days saying just that th-cam.com/video/mkkgS57ycwk/w-d-xo.html So despite Kantonostalgia being hatred nowadays, back in Gen6 it was something still fresh, and the easy X/Y games were tolareble.. but the lack of the Battle Frontier was really GameFreak's first punch in the fandon's face

Good video! Just wanted to add about something I'd read/saw somewhere about how the 3D models in Sword and Shield were intended to be The Models that they could then carry forward into all games moving forward, allowing them to add 100 mons every generation, while also going back and touching up some of the previous models. However, the program they built to convert the 3DS models to Switch screwed up some of the pokemon, meaning that they would have to be recreated, and because Game Freak is understaffed, made the business decision to release with a smaller number of total pokemon and then add the others in expansions, while pretending like they'd always intended to cut back on them anyways. This largely stemming from the fact that the video games make up a fraction of the Pokemon Franchise profits, and Game Freak's primary purpose is to release another couple hundred pokemon every two years so the anime and merchandise have new products to sell.
"...So that the anime and Merch can sell." Which is very Ironic considering these started as video games so why is the merch and anime (which should be secondary to the main product) more important than the product that made you a big franchise in the first place? Sounds like extremely backwards logic.
@@Friendly_Neigborhood_Astolfo loss leaders, really. When I sold printers, printers were sold at a loss to the company. If it cost them 100 to make the printer, they'd sell it for 75. Never forget that the most successful and profitable video game in the entire industry, by a wide margin, is Candy Crush Saga, and World of Warcraft is the least profitable of Activision-Blizzards entire catalogue. When Ruby and Sapphire came out, they excluded more than half of the Gen 1&2 Pokémon. Yeah, we got FR/LG and Colosseum/XD in the coming years to make up for that, but we didn’t know that at the time. And we couldn’t trade from Gens 1 and 2 into Ruby and Sapphire. I guess that’s why Dexit didn’t matter to me too much - because we went through the same thing at the dawn of Gen 3. I was used to it.
The important difference here is that gen 3 made previous Pokemon incompatible in order to rework Pokemon's stats for the betterment of the series. This time they did it just to hit a deadline.
I know what you mean but don’t forget that at least all the previous Pokémon were usable in game once obtained through trades or hacks. In Sword/Shield you are limited to what Pokémon you can use. Honestly it sucks that not every Pokémon is available in the games both for existing and new Players. Everyone has their favorites 😂 I wanted to earn some Ribbons for my Delcatty and Feraligatr Either way, it sucks that not every Pokémon is available but what are we gonna do. Sword and Shield were fine games but everyone’s criticisms are valid :D

I've never heard anyone else talk about the dex cut's effects on the competitive scene. Especially before the DLC the entire metagame was extremely dry and straightforward. It still is right now, just not AS bad. I don't understand why because competitive battling is SUCH a big part of the fanbase and the series itself. Removing core mechanics and half the Pokedex was definitely a huge slap in the face and it drove a lot of people away.
Except those are not the same situation. It's not just that you can't catch every pokemon in S/SH, it's that you can't even transfer them in. They are physically not in the game. That's unprecedented.
@@FieryMeltman That was true with Gen 3 as well prior to the release of FR/LG and Colosseum/XD years later. There was no way to trade Pokémon from Gens 1 and 2 into Gen 3 at the time. The technology wasn’t there yet. So it was a very similar situation. When Ruby and Sapphire first came out there was no way to get over half the Gens 1 and 2 Pokémon without hacking.
@@FieryMeltman You edited your comment from “trade in” to “transfer in.” It doesn’t change much for me if the only way to get Pokémon not in Ruby Sapphire was to hack them in. Yeah they might have been programmed in, but if hacking is the only way they might as well not be programmed in at all.
To me, whole thing was blown out of proportion. I care more about new Mons than the older ones coming back with a new Gen - it’s one reason why Gen 5 is my favorite - and Gen 8 had a lot of strong designs and cool typings, plus the assortment of older Mons that made it was a solid variety, which made for an overall better native playthrough roster than most Gens. Multiple favorites of mine from older Gens didn’t make it in, but as it was at the end of the day when I played it I had fun in spite of that. And I know I’ll see those old friends again in new experiences, so I guess I’d rather be excited for when that moment comes than lament what I don’t have right now. 🤷🏻♂️😊 P.S. The quality of life improvements for team building in this game were extraordinary and don’t get mentioned enough. That plays into my positive impression of it as a whole.
I don't get the problem either tbh. Last game I played was SS, but I watched a playthrough of Shield and it looks incredible. Everything is pretty, the 3d models are neat, the Pokedex is still massive, the moves look cool, and I love the party-wide xp. The story did seem a bit short overall. Maybe people that had played the more recent games were used to those features. But my last game being a 2d game with 500ish Pokemon and Moves in battle not looking too expressive, I didn't really get it.
If you're a collector it's a BIG deal, plus it's not the only issue players have, particularly the lack of exploration for the base game and linearity (which was an issue of Black & White), and difficulty.
One thing that doesn't get talked about much is the fact that Game Freak never told us how many Pokémon were actually being cut. We only found out when the games leaked online a week before their release.
For me, it was the fact that I would be spending over triple the price for less content than what I got in the DS games (60$ base, 30$ DLC, 15$ Pokémon Home, 20$ Switch Online). Just seemed like a complete scam to me. P.S. cutting out Pokémon and features like the GTS, then selling them back to us is EA levels of scummy.
@@DjPrimeVideos Yeah, but what I'm saying is that the DS and 3DS games didn't require extra payment to get online, so you need to pay for NSO to get what you used to get for free.

Before, you paid $40 for the first release of a gen, then another $40 for an updated version of the game (Emerald, Platinum, etc) with the added features the DLC of SWSH gave, it's a nickle- and-diming thing either way
I'm in complete agreement that this whole thing got a bit out of control. I agree with both sides to a degree too. If the game isn't gonna be given the polish they deserve then we should at least have the Pokemon so we can enjoy the very lifeline of the series, but if cutting out Pokémon is what's gonna help make the game better then I'm all for it. The problem is they didn't do either one, it wasn't as polished as they promised nor did it have all the Pokémon to make up for it, a double negative as far as I can see. I still enjoyed the game, but I didn't feel like playing it much after beating the game, didn't even go all the way with competitive like I had originally planned. That's my thoughts on the game at least. As for the crazy people you brought up... yeah they were the ones I didn't care for on either side. You had one side wanting the Pokémon back so badly that they were willing to harass one of them(I think it was Masuda?) on a wedding post they made, and on the other side you had people willing to eat up any slop they were given if it meant protecting a brand they liked... wtf is wrong with people? The world has gone mad I tell you! MAD!!! xD
I don’t necessarily think it’s masuda’s fault. I just feel that he has made some terrible decisions in the past and currently, like the decision to exclude the berry mini game from oras and excluding the battle frontier, excluding mega evolution from swsh, the battle timer issue. You can just tell the games are rushed. I personally don’t plan on ever supporting gamefreak ever again with my wallet until they actually start listening to fans so I am just going to buy Pokémon games from third party sellers from eBay or amazon because i don’t want my money going to gamefreak. I actually want to boycott the series. I hope enough people actually boycott in the next games if they end up being terrible. “I doubt that will happen but the more people who promotes boycotting, the bigger the chance that there games sell terribly” I bought a used copy of Pokémon shield back in 2019 from an EBay seller and I have never touched the game ever since because it was just that terrible, it was incredibly boring that I couldn’t see myself sinking hours of my time into a game that barely even offers a challenge and doesn’t even have a proper post game or a proper half decent story.
When i first heard that not all pokemon will be in the game my brain went A, They're gonna dlcfied the other pokemon which they did. You need to pay extra to play with the other pokemon missing like if you're a big lover of squirtle and bulbasaur thats an extra 20 bucks to use them B, use it as a future marketing tool saying a new pokemon game finally has all 900 plus pokemon giving fans a false sense of hope that things will be different and trying to make people excited on something that shouldn't have ever been done in the first place
I still haven't bought Sword and Shield, and never will. I could have played it using a friend's account, but im literally so disgusted with the game and the anti-consumer change in Gamefreak.
What annoyed me most about Dexit wasn't the cut pokemon or the sub-par graphics, it was that Game Freak couldn't simply release a statement saying that due to deadlines and lack of funding/manpower they weren't able to make the best games possible. Instead they made up an excuse of upgrading models, improving animations and better graphics. Fans quickly proved they reused the exact same models from X and Y and Sun and Moon.
We shouldn't have expected transparency and honesty from a big company like TPC, but I guess I held Pokémon on a higher standard for... whatever reason.
Honeslty game freak shot themselves in the foot with a loaded shotgun when they said they did the cut for graphics and animation because anyone could tell it look the same lol
I fail to see how 3rd best selling generation an all And they didn't hide this fact untill release unlike other western companies would have like CD Project Red with Cyberpunk, EA on a day that ends in y, or Activision with CTR and adding predatory Microtransactions after they got their good reviews They let people know many months ahead of time what the case would be and how the game looked
@@elemomnialpha they got the good reviews because well it's Pokemon They could literally do anything and people would still get it and plenty of kids would get it as their first Pokemon games because well... it's Pokemon Plus it's the fact they said they did the cut so they can be more expressive with the models of Pokemon but all the models are literally the exact same from the xy days
@@Radiolonestar Well no people just enjoyed the games. Lets Go got a ton of flack and still do from "fans" when a lot of work went into those games, The animation for camp is fairly new and you really can't just upscale 3ds models and call it a day. So yes The models were new just not the upgrade people keep fantasizing about they also had a tight schedule to keep and no its not gamefreaks fault they have to keep pushing out games in the fall every year, The games don't aren't even the bread and butter the tcg makes more money then the games. But despite that there's plenty of good. The gym system is a unique idea they eliminated the needless grind (yes to a casual player its not fun) and the wild area was still a fun new gimmick.
@@demonking-zm3rs but that's apart of it it sells because it's Pokemon Especially a new gen Most of the camp animation is mainly new for the new Pokemon Everything else is used from the days of Pokemon refresh and amie There Not really new even in the video they mention how it's pretty much the identical thing to the ones in older games hence the hashtag game freak lied that circled Around And yeah I know all of those other aspects affects the companies as well I mean I'm pretty neutral to the whole shitstorm they did do some cool things in it but I can't blame really people for being disappointed by them
@@Radiolonestar It's probably more to do with people wanting a Breath of the Wild Pokemon Game along with all the Pokemon and they're not getting any of it.
While I am a devout supporter of as many of the entire roster of pokemon being included as possible (especially the starters), You and another youtuber named Retro and Chill have made the most informed and well researched videos on this heated issue. Well done dude!
I personally didn't have a problem with them cutting pokemon from the dex, since it sorta happened in gen 7 when there was no national dex at all but people didn't riot. What was wrong is how the controversy was handled by the creators. Instead of giving complete explanations or being fully honest with people, they pretty much ignored the issue until the games came out, and then they made it worse by returning some of the pokemon but not explaining their choices.
In terms on the competitive battle, I still used the National Dex format in Pokemon Showdown, because it's fun to have a widespread of Pokemon to use in battles. Gen 8 meta is beyond unfair. Dynamax went wrong, Boots made quad weak to Rock mons better, etc.
I literally quit playing Pokemon completely for 3 whole years just because of all this. I felt so ashamed and disgusted with what it became and how greedy Game Freak showed itself to be. I only regained my love for it by playing Mystery Dungeon DX and replaying all the old games I loved.
this is one of your best videos yet, I personally think that this was a quite unfortunate event that came with the downward spiral of recent pokemon games which started in XY. They had already removed loved features like the battle frontier and VS seeker but this for me dexit was a bit excessive since their catchphrase is "Gotta Catch Em All" I just wish that newer pokemon games were like older ones like hgss or platinum because I really like those games and I love Pokemon and only want the best for it and wish that they would slow down for a bit and polish up the games like with minecraft and the cave update. They already have a ton of money and it would be less of a strain on the employees
I've always found myself in a weird spot when talking about these games On one hand the games advancements make competitive pokemon more accessible and easier than its ever been. On the other some of these same advancements can be used to completely break the already easy main campaign. On one hand the games low difficulty makes them ideal for beginners, on the other these games are by no means the best experience pokemon can offer making me wary to recommend them. Dynamax did what any new mechanic should do and shook up the game, this same mechanic however made singles formats horrible to play and has warped vgc. The pokemon being introduced in segments allowed for rotating formats and quickly changing metas, but this was most likely an unintentional side effect not a conscious choice. The DLC was actually a better call than a 3rd release game, it could still be argued there shouldn't have been a need for DLC. Overall while I never could say these games were realistically great I also couldn't bring myself to agree with the obsessive and unhealthy lengths some people went to complain about them. The main thing these games brought to light for me at least was how so many people could like the same thing but be so different in opinion on it to point of conflict.
I know this is an old video but i am still gonna say my piece here. I hate that this cut happened and I am sure it wasn’t a creative decision. It was made because gamefreak isn’t given the time, money, and manpower by their superiors to put out a highly polished game so things get cut. This time it was the Pokémon. I wish they were given these things so we could have better more complete games. Honestly though I wish they just came out and said that it isn’t worth their time to put the mons in when it won’t hurt the game’s sales that much anyway. I would respect that way more than coming up with poor excuses for why they aren’t there.
I was fine with the dex cut cause GF devs stated the compromise would be better animations. SwSh didn't do that, yes the new atks this gen look awesome like sword doggo signature attack same with cinderace own move too. But they kept the same outdated animations since X&Y with lackluster model displacements cycled over. A better compromise is Pokemon Snap, it only has 200-ish mons but damn do their animations look so organic in their habitats. That is the level of quality I wanted to see for the wild area zones. GF also said putting all the pkmn in SwSh couldn't be done. Then they did backtracked and updates SwSh to code in some other mons same day has the 1st and 2nd expansions. So it was doable then? They kept lying and most of the fandom let them get away with it.
I personally found that the lack of the National dex made me appreciate every single Pokémon a lot more. Going into SWSH I didn’t know which Pokémon were cut and which weren’t. So finding out on my own what Pokémon would exist in Galar was amazing and made me appreciate the ones I found! Plus going to the Isle of Armor and Crown Tundra made me happy to see the Pokémon that weren’t in the base games! The games were still fun regardless so in the end the cut didn’t matter all that much. I also think the feeling of the open world region added to my excitement of seeing all the Pokémon! Great video man!! Not often does someone make a kinda history lesson video for Pokémon. Well done!
8:06 I enjoyed this unbiased video up to this point, that's such a dumb argument. "If you don't like something, don't play it" is such a faulty mentality, you're allowed to criticise something without playing it, otherwise you have to support the developers just to criticise them for obvious problems that exist. That kind of mentality will keep the games from progressing because GameFreak will know that even if they do something wrong, loyal fans will keep supporting them and people who don't like the games will just ignore them and let their problems continue to grow. If you don't like something you won't want to buy it to support the creators, but you are still absolutely allowed to criticise a product for objective flaws. According to this dude if you criticise something then apparently you're letting it control your life's happiness? I guess never criticise anything and you'll always be happy, because that makes sense.
Honestly, one thing that I’m really not liking about Dexit, outside everything from 2019 from the misleading to the lies, is that this could be such an easy way to extort players nostalgia. Oh what’s that? Want to bring your favourite Pokémon to the most recent games? Sorry half of them can’t enter this time. Guess you’ll have to still pay for Pokémon Bank/what ever it’s called so they won’t get deleted for no reason. And honestly, this entire thing basically killed any joy I have for this series anymore. Years of dissatisfaction with the series for the past couple years and then with dexit rolling in basically keeps me from getting hyped about any new games. And the gen 4 remix’s and Legends just don’t impress me in the slightest
I remember hearing a rumor that supposedly SwSh was supposed to be on the 3DS, but GameFreak was forced to make it for the Switch, hence Dexit and how rushed the game seems. Idk if that’s true tho.
It was definitely rush. You can feel it by how quickly put together some of the gyms were. How you basically do nothing in the last gym just, battle 3 trainers and then the leader… that’s it. Didn’t even have a little puzzle or visual appeal just. Steps up, Battle, steps back, repeat twice, Gym Battle.
I'm personally against Dexit. I have a living dex up until USUM, and I was almost done it when SW/SH released. So I just didn't buy the game for a long time. I have it now, and I'm finalizing my living dex soon (though I'm waiting to spend money on Home b/c x3 price smh). One of the reasons I bought it is because one of my friends really wanted me to play it with him, as he knew I was a huge Pokémon fan for a long time, and I just kinda fell off it (cause I didn't have a switch at SW/SH launch, so I was kinda dropping pkm at the time). The reason I bought it (*TW*) is because he died. It hit me real hard, and I wish that I got it sooner so I couldn've played it with him... Now, I'm bringing this up in my point about dexit, because... What can I do to honor him in some way? Well my first thought was playing through the game with his favorite Pokémon (which is Duskull (a Ghost type Pokémon. The irony is not lost on me.)), and while now you might say "but Duskull is already in the game!" Yeah, it is. But what if it wasn't? What if your best friend died, and liked SW/SH at launch, yet their favorite Pokémon was Geninja (a popular choice) (and let's say that even though it still isn't in the games, that IoA and CT wouldn't add it later in this hypothetical). How would you honor them now? In past games, you could always "start" with a past region's starter. That's just a scenario that I find myself in, and I like to look at all the possibilities that are open. I mean, that's one of the reasons I'm against dexit. I'd rather the possibility be present than only a selection, especially with all the points in BBND's favor (S/M/US/UM models, "Gotta Catch 'Em All", etc.). I'm really hoping that with BD/SP and L:A, that this will become a thing of the past, and SW/SH push another update finalizing Nat Dex. I mean, I've personally checked each mon that's not in SW/SH and all pre-Gen V mons except like 2 or 3 are avaliable in some way in D/P/Pt. Unovan Pokémon getting some spotlight (Braviary, Basculegion, and Zoura & Zoroark) in Arceus is also a good sign, not to mention stuff like the AZ's Floette being a Hisuian form (imo a well founded) theory, I think that GF and The Pokémon Company have learned a lesson from SW/SH, and I personally am looking forward to the future games in a good light. So thanks for reading my... Rant? I tend to talk thoroughly about my points, and flesh them out in detail, so if you made it all the way through, thank you.
What I disliked was how a good chunk of the same people who bashed the game pre-release still bought the game either on release or later while continuing to criticize how much fun others were having in spite of lies. Like, bro, we had months to make our decision and then you go act like a politician and go back on your words? ...Like, what?
Boycotts are a joke, especially boycotts of games or gaming companies. To quote Asmongold about the Blizzard boycott after the Blitzchung incident: "Gamers are one cinematic trailer away from a boycott being over."
I personally didn't mind the cut of Pokemon since I prefer using Pokemon from the new region, but I do understand why people were upset. Fantastic video JPR!
Dexit really didn't bother me, but once I got the games it was just a let down. Even though it passed my expectations for Video Games in general. But the DPP remakes and Legends show some hard promise that they have listened to the critics of SWSH
As a competitive player, Dexit didn't really bother me all that much and, in the beginning, D/Gmax was cool and shakes up the meta in a refreshing way... BUT... After a few months, I can safely say, Dynamax is THE reason that Gen8 VGC is boring af!! The had mechanic opened up the meta and made room for a ton of Mons to find a niche and there was a HUGE variety of teams on the ladder... But now that same mechanic has made the meta more stale than it has been since 2015, imo. Dynamax has flipped the script. Better play from the better player doesn't guarantee a win with Dmax around. Obv it still rewards good play but BAD play isn't punished nearly as much as previous formats!
Not to mention it completely broke the Weakness Policy due to the free boosts that stacked with some of those moves. This is why I am enjoying the latest series (series 10) more since it is like Gen 6 VGC minus Megas and Primals, and only allowed one restricted legendary per team.
How the F*CK did you skip over that GameFreak LIED about why the Pokemon were cut??? That was THE controversy! That it was because "the models had to be redone from scratch" when it was proven the were copy/pasted, and even re-used animations! PS, I have the models myself, i'm a moder. They are the same. People didn't care about the trees, or the graphics. They cared that it was used as an excuse for Dexit, when it was a lie. This is the worst "re-cap" on this matter i've watched. This is not the Dexit story at all.
The trees were collateral to the splash damage of the nuke aimed at the Dexit lies. They still look bad, but that wouldn't have been a talking point if GamefrEAk never brought attention to graphics with Dexit.
The thing is, if what they said about time constraints was true, then they would have stuck to that story, but they didn't, instead they just made up excuses to justify their actions. Even if they couldn't include all the pokemon in the base game they could've coded the rest of them in at a later date. You know, like what Splatoon, and Animal Crossing are doing?
This was a great little documentation of Dexit. I don't wanna believe Gamefreak is doing this out of malicion but rather neccesity. Pokemon is bigger than ever and you can't just "take a break" with so much riding on the new games' release. Even if they could, I don't think the higher ups at TPCI would let them. While I know the reason for a game like SwSh existing, that won't stop me from criticizing it's many problems. I can understand the excuses but I won't brush the problems aside.
I was a mixed reaction with this response. For first, the singles meta could recover from power creep! For second, I want all my mons, plus some cool new teammates! I also think that bugged models are a problem, but I rather have to delay the game for a few more months, than have my favorite mons deleted. I also wanted cooler graphics, and thought that the trailer was a tech demo, but alas, it was the final product. *but are the mouse cursors been patched from the credits and the beginning game screen yet please I must know*
GOTTA CATCH...some of em. But in all seriousness, while I was lucky to see a lot of my favorite mons in the Gen 8 dex, thus being able to progress the story with them, a lot of my friends were really mad that so much of their favorite mons got "Thanos-snapped", and they saw the DLCs as nothing but a new way to get some old mons back. While I had fun playing Sword and Shield and their DLCs, it's hard to ignore the whole Dexit thing and not be a bit sad about the situation as a huge Pokémon fan.
You can honestly see Masuda wasn’t happy. I don’t know why people think he’s in charge of everything. Every Pokémon got new animations and used all of their animations that wasted space in previous games. Pokémon got new movesets to help balance competitive and Dynamax.
This entire subject will always be interesting to me cuz it feels like this happened yesterday...maybe cuz it’s been goin on for so long. As a competitive player, the cuts and “lackluster” story don’t mean much to me as they are all means to an end; beat the game, start the grind. And the cut Pokémon meant a more controlled and varied meta due to VGC staples not being around to rule usage stats, and when old Pokémon made a return, they felt new again, like new toys to play with in the new format, but I know that’s a VERY different opinion than most. The gears of this machine need to take a break in all honesty. It also feels kinda weird cuz it feels like GameFreak is like HAL (Kirby devs) a smaller team making smaller games, but Pokémon is so big it can’t be seen in any other way than a AAA type of game, and being held to those standards is FR understandable but the issues are deeper than people think. I really do hope they get a break or sumthin so they can actually make a game that makes people happy. I don’t think any Pokémon games are actually trash, cuz they are very cookie cutter, in a good way, it’s consistent. I really do think people are too hard on Pokémon sometimes just cuz the games themselves don’t change that much in terms of quality IMO for better and worse. GF honestly should be given more time and resources.
I have a similar experience as someone that does game guides and it probably applies to people that do reviews as well. As long as the game functions, less game is more free time later on. I haven't played all of the Dragon Quest games or all of the Pokemon games (last one was Gen 3) and I'm totally aware that Pokemon is made under greater pressure, but I'd still expect a bit more ambition when its competition can show it up on portables and home consoles. Alternatives like Nexomon aren't necessarily better in every way, but they have some of the lost spark it seems.
The DLC could be in the game from the beginning like the stuff from the USUM could be in Sun and Moon too, they just didn't wanted it to happen, to force people to pay more for something they could do from the the beginning. The dexit was kinda an excuse, they should've made the post game of SwSh like the 5th gen and offer the possibility of having old pokemon back, after only allowing to use 8th gen pokemon in the first part of the game.
Not a massive pokemon fan, last gen I played was X and Y since it made the jump to 3d. I have to say though Sword and shield was just disappointing in my eyes. Dynamax was incredibly boring to be as it just made most the pokemon bigger, and yes I know some pokemon have Gigantamax which did change up the appearance a bit, including my favorite Machamp. But lets face it, some of those are incredibly disappointing as well, Eevee, Picachu, Meowth, Melmetal, and a few others had very minimal design changes, so minimal in fact that the first time I saw them I didn't even notice the difference. I feel like the pokemon cut wasn't the straw that broke the camals back but it also wasn't the hydro pump, but it just put everything we saw in perspective, because not only is this game visual on par with a 6 year old game, not only were they trying to do a open world in a half ass manner, but we are also not going to be able to catch all the pokemon? And I understand it isn't as simple as copying and pasting them but considering that everything else was a in my eyes a down grade or just on par with the quality of previous games, Ya it has nothing going for it, I am pretty sure that when the next actual game comes out, this one will be forgotten.
this honestly didnt bother me at all, but for many i knew it was heartbreaking and i wish they just made a last free update for swsh that added the ones left out
initially, i was with the pro-dexit crowd. there’s roughly 900 pokemon now, that’s an obscene number to try and cram into one game, let alone for any given player to catch. but, now that i have a (mostly) complete natdex in home, i side with the anti-dexit crowd. they’ve shown they’re able to update the game, and it’s frustrating to have legacy pokemon just sit in boxes. hopefully bdsp will encourage them to add to the roster of swsh, considering a lot of sinnoh pokemon were absent from galar, but i’m not counting on it.
This one has been in the works for a long time so any and all support is greatly appreciated!
I know it's a hot topic, but let's keep things civil down here :)
(also the music tracks are listed in the pastebin in the description if you're wondering)

They said they were not planning to code every Pokémon in future games too.
Almost no one was talking about the actual "national dex" decide, but the availability of the Pokemon. Calling it the "National Dex" was just easier and shorter.
You really expect gf’s small team to code more than 800 models in each game? Stop being entitled. Dexit had to happen at some point.
That’s how most media is now a days. Make it controversial so people will look at it and go “if people hate, that means it’s actually good”
Honestly, I wish GameFreak didn't have to pump out a new game almost every year.
Those games were 2nd worst for me.

😪

I never knew about the beta. It doesn't make me like SwSh any more, but it gives me a new perspective on the situation.

@@PeterGriffin11 the thing is that they should prioritize the quality of there game and put a halt to trading cards, merchandise and anime until the games are ready, either that or get extra outside help from different companies. Some move effects do look nice (anchor shot for example looks polished af) but that’s just special effect clip art that barely lines up (especially with mouth beams and blastoise cannons).

Right now they're all still on US, since they're not all useable in SwoSh. I would love to transfer them and see them on the big screen, but since so much (including some of them) was cut, I wont do it
No, Pokémon doesn't "direct" my joy or happiness, but if I want to play Pokémon, then with my travel-companions tbh

Brah infernape and Lucario are my partners, I need them both lol ion blame you
I honestly would prefer keeping old pokemon than creating new ones.

"...So that the anime and Merch can sell."
Which is very Ironic considering these started as video games so why is the merch and anime (which should be secondary to the main product) more important than the product that made you a big franchise in the first place? Sounds like extremely backwards logic.

P.S. The quality of life improvements for team building in this game were extraordinary and don’t get mentioned enough. That plays into my positive impression of it as a whole.
I don't get the problem either tbh.

The "DEXIT" is one of the main reasons why I quit playing Pokemon.

And they didn't hide this fact untill release unlike other western companies would have like CD Project Red with Cyberpunk, EA on a day that ends in y, or Activision with CTR and adding predatory Microtransactions after they got their good reviews
They let people know many months ahead of time what the case would be and how the game looked
@@elemomnialpha they got the good reviews because well it's Pokemon
They could literally do anything and people would still get it and plenty of kids would get it as their first Pokemon games because well... it's Pokemon
Plus it's the fact they said they did the cut so they can be more expressive with the models of Pokemon but all the models are literally the exact same from the xy days
@@Radiolonestar Well no people just enjoyed the games. Lets Go got a ton of flack and still do from "fans" when a lot of work went into those games, The animation for camp is fairly new and you really can't just upscale 3ds models and call it a day. So yes The models were new just not the upgrade people keep fantasizing about they also had a tight schedule to keep and no its not gamefreaks fault they have to keep pushing out games in the fall every year,
The games don't aren't even the bread and butter the tcg makes more money then the games. But despite that there's plenty of good. The gym system is a unique idea they eliminated the needless grind (yes to a casual player its not fun) and the wild area was still a fun new gimmick.
@@demonking-zm3rs but that's apart of it it sells because it's Pokemon
Especially a new gen
Most of the camp animation is mainly new for the new Pokemon
Everything else is used from the days of Pokemon refresh and amie
There Not really new even in the video they mention how it's pretty much the identical thing to the ones in older games hence the hashtag game freak lied that circled
Around
And yeah I know all of those other aspects affects the companies as well
I mean I'm pretty neutral to the whole shitstorm they did do some cool things in it but I can't blame really people for being disappointed by them

A Dex cut? Sure.
Not being able to get every Pokemon depite them not being in the Pokedex? That's just whack.
I agree with that, this whole situation should’ve been handled better
The problem was the translation from Japanese to English and the fact that they have poor PR.
@@harveycustodio2625 yeah that’s definitely part of it too
at least you could still catch em all in sun and moon
you could say it was... *the Darkest Day* for Pokemon Sword and Shield
I was completely unsettled not to be greeted with "Good morning everybody" 😨😨

I would even go so far as to say that dissatisfaction had been building up since X and Y themselves.
He said that
I didn’t even try the new games because of the loss of the nat dex.
Wasn't aware of all of this, was just happy there was a new game coming out.
Lucky you. It was a real firestorm for a while.
this is one of your best videos yet, I personally think that this was a quite unfortunate event that came with the downward spiral of recent pokemon games which started in XY.
To be fair, I think they shelved "Gotta Catch 'Em All" around the time of Gen 3 or so.
THANK YOU, IVE BEEN TRYONG TO FOGIRE PUT WHAT ON EARTH DEXIT WAS
I've always found myself in a weird spot when talking about these games
On one hand the games advancements make competitive pokemon more accessible and easier than its ever been.
I laughed out loud at the Raid Shadow Legends joke
That would have been the most legendary advertisement for RSL ever if it was real
I remember hearing a rumor that supposedly SwSh was supposed to be on the 3DS, but GameFreak was forced to make it for the Switch, hence Dexit and how rushed the game seems. Idk if that’s true tho.
Hey! I'm no Quagsire!
I'm a Swampert.
Dexit will be fine if they actually made new models for old pokemon but no, they literally the same ole models, they just need to import 💀.
Pov: you don't know anything about game development ☠☠☠☠☠
@@mizzixdo you know anything about game development?
To quote Asmongold about the Blizzard boycott after the Blitzchung incident:
"Gamers are one cinematic trailer away from a boycott being over."
I personally didn't mind the cut of Pokemon since I prefer using Pokemon from the new region, but I do understand why people were upset. Fantastic video JPR!
Masuda is thanos
You know something's wrong when the video doesn't immediately start with the usual intro.
The raid shadow legends joke got me
I was a mixed reaction with this response.
Ah yes, the 2th anniversary of me promising to never getting another new Pokémon game. And counting.
Ah yes, twoth.
I’m not getting a main game until all Pokémon are supported again
Try arceus
You can honestly see Masuda wasn’t happy. I don’t know why people think he’s in charge of everything.
Every Pokémon got new animations and used all of their animations that wasted space in previous games. Pokémon got new movesets to help balance competitive and Dynamax.
I think of Pokémon like McDs. McDs is the largest franchise, but they don’t serve 5-Star cuisine. They’re big because they’re popular.
This was also the last day we see Bill... Its not just me, hes been gone for almost 3 years now?
The DLC could be in the game from the beginning like the stuff from the USUM could be in Sun and Moon too, they just didn't wanted it to happen, to force people to pay more for something they could do from the the beginning. The dexit was kinda an excuse, they should've made the post game of SwSh like the 5th gen and offer the possibility of having old pokemon back, after only allowing to use 8th gen pokemon in the first part of the game.
If they were going to cut the dex, fine. But every switch game should have at least the same amount of Pokémon USUM
Raid Shadow Legends had me hollering
And I understand it isn't as simple as copying and pasting them but considering that everything else was a in my eyes a down grade or just on par with the quality of previous games, Ya it has nothing going for it, I am pretty sure that when the next actual game comes out, this one will be forgotten.
this honestly didnt bother me at all, but for many i knew it was heartbreaking and i wish they just made a last free update for swsh that added the ones left out
They better make an update the the remaining mons...

initially, i was with the pro-dexit crowd. there’s roughly 900 pokemon now, that’s an obscene number to try and cram into one game, let alone for any given player to catch. but, now that i have a (mostly) complete natdex in home, i side with the anti-dexit crowd. they’ve shown they’re able to update the game, and it’s frustrating to have legacy pokemon just sit in boxes. hopefully bdsp will encourage them to add to the roster of swsh, considering a lot of sinnoh pokemon were absent from galar, but i’m not counting on it.
