The game is only gonna end when the cost of mantaining the servers are higher than the amount of money they produce. Until that moment, no gacha is gonna die. And Arknights is no exception.
I like both ways, actually. I like the "allmighty powerfull operators" that can solve any stage whenever you don't want a challange, and the lower rarity, the niche ones, the funny ones, even the "bad operators" for when you want to try something stupid, or "cool". It's just a game, and a lot of people always seem to forget it

honestly HG is a weird company. they are gacha game company but doesn't feel like so. the small example for that; they can literally can generate so much amount of money with the skin alone. like just slap Kal'tsit with a maid skin or give W the same skin as her trailer on her debut or give any other meta ops with L2D skins. However, they did none of that. Instead, they give a random 3* operator a FREE new skin and give us many free pulls and OP.
PS: I'm very grateful for their generosity but its just feels odds nonetheless. I just hope it doesn't hurt Arknights lifespan as a gacha game.

@@hikizutomomokaze1530Would you mind explaining what an 8-bit code is? Jkjk, but just for future reference, you won't have 8-bit code, because that's only a byte, which was way too little nowadays to even write a single character (letters, symbols, numbers) out. 8-bit code refers to ASCII characters, and I'm 99% sure Arknights isn't made of ASCII art.

It really depends on the situation with most of them. For example I Hate Ling with a burning passion but against the helldive that is IS I always borrow one (I skipped her banner) as her versatility in early game is really useful and by the time I can promote her (if at all) the stages are on a level where she doesn't feel nearly as busted as in regular stages.

I raise who I like and it saves me just enough to raise the next op I like. You gotta be handy with resources and just farm. Auto farm your sanity as usual and farm events you’ll be good. So to be fair, Kal'tsit's IS module is absolutely cracked. It probably would be too strong in normal play. It's probably really good in IS as well, and medic recruits can be a bit annoying to be constantly getting so you might want a Kal'tsit.
Phantom on the other side is REALLY weak compared to Texas/Yato 2.0 . Now I can't say from first hand use (as I don't play CN) but running the numbers even with his IS module his skill 2 compared to Texas/Yato is competitive. He does about 2x the damage of Yato/Texas base, but Yato does hers in 1/10th the time in a small AoE and Texas can recast+the AoE burst at the start. So it's good, but it just "Makes Phatom sometimes as good as the best FRD".
People are probably angry because HG literally did the module perfectly; Buffed an unter-tuned unit in an interesting and intuitive way that plays to their unique kit so they now can stand close to the level of new ops. They then went "Oh, it's IS only BTW." Unless you get a free/instant promotion taking Phantom in IS over say Texas is a gamble that you MIGHT get a unit that is sometimes as good, instead of grabbing the better unit that when upgraded will be just as good.

    • @frankie391

Phantom with the new module is definitely not weak. It is difficult to make use of for sure. The "reset" mechanic of Texas alter now applies to Phantom, he resets the skill whenever the clone is deployed, the clone will have massively short redeploy time as long as he/it has something to attack. Laneholding while letting the clone harassing enemies at the same time with the cost 1 Deployment limit with Phantom is now possible.
Of course he will fall off and cannot replace Texalter/Kirito on higher floors, but this is the just exact amount of power I need from a FRD. Baiting is much easier especially with enemies attacking 2 targets simultaneously.
You can watch pard's video of Phantom starting squad in IS#5.

For me the solution to the game just being way to easy with decently build account was to just go for low op clears. This way I can play around with my shiny 6* operators and still need to think on how to clear the stage instead of just activating Młynar's skill. Turns out that when you don't have more ops to cover for his downtime Młynar has actual weakness and doesn't automatically solve most stages.
Since we only get actually hard map once in a blue moon coming up with some self imposed challenge makes regular events way more fun for me.

My view on ops who are too strong is they are trump cards. I use them only when the stage is too tedious for me, and if I don't have enough free time to put up a more complex strategy with units I like a lot to use. I need to kill this boss quick and I don't want to play around him or just stall ? Huge debuffers or dpses. Something annoying from the other side of the map I don't want to deal ? Goldenglow. Don't want to care about damage over time ? Abyssal hunters, and so on.
The more a unit is strong and universal, the more its use will be rare for me (unless maybe in SSS where I want it to end quick but that's out of the point). The only strong things I use more often are flagpipe and skalter, and it's because they enable everything else I do (I always want to play Eunectes so she needs babysitting); or very strong niche units but it's satisfying to dusk them off at the right time. It is another debate, but I do enjoy when the events or bosses aren't complete nonsense so you can work out something with less (and yes it is always possible but I don't want to have to watch guides to do that !)

Power creep is actually a vital part of progress. Raising operators costs resources and lots of resources for a 6 star, so a new operator needs to be at least slightly better than what I've already got, or it's a waste of resources, even if it's free (Lessing, I'm looking in your general direction).

I have a question for you, if you have a complete roster who can already beat the game, is it still a waste of resources to raise weaker ops? Your line of thought is something I see a lot, but I never get to see the whole extent of how people get to that conclusion

    • @wagz781
      @wagz781 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +18

@@RewriteKuma the line of thinking is typically most common in gachas and competitive games like league where the devs are trying to sell you something. If the new character or whatever is weaker than previous characters, then gacha players are likely to skip the character, and competitive players are unlikely to buy the character and it's skins until it's buffed. Which means that characters need to be stronger and content needs to be harder or cater to that character to most reliably encourage people to spend money for said character. As opposed to relying on novelty or the waifu effect. The line of logic isn't about the health of the game. At least in a mechanical sense. It's far more about the financial side of the game, and the lack of trust devs have to make back their money on new characters. Which I'm not saying as derision, that's just standard in the industry nowadays.

A person who exclusively builds operators that they perceive to be stronger would find building a weak operator as a waste of time and resources even if those resources were infinite. Their values (ie strong = fun) would make weak operators seem worthless and unbuildable. For an example of the reverse: In this video you showed kal'tsit at EO, if you had infinite resources would you build her? Some of the best Arknights writing. Her scenes? Delightful. And her kit... I do find it surprisingly fitting to her character. Yes, it's simple af. But so is her fighting style in canon: it's no technique, no style, just a lot of strength, speed and violence. So I do feel sparks of joy in my soul when I play her despite people complaining "she has the most boring kit boo". I'm happy. That's what matters.
I'm not a super player who only uses 4-stars (and I have no real motivation to when I don't care about, uhm, Cuora's lore or something. Some are brilliant though, like Roberta).

I feel you. While I have some broken 6-stars I bring out for the really hard stages (Texalter and Goldenglow mostly), I usually prefer to stick to 4 and 5 stars because the game is decently challenging with them, and they give room for more creative strategies most of the time. In fact, in the upcoming banners, I'm a lot more exited about the 5 and 4 stars than the 6 stars. Iana and Fuze look really fun to use, Lutonada has an awesome design, Fang alter is a character I've been waiting for a long time and one of my favourite characters (Amiya) getting a form in one of my favourite classes (Incantation Medic) is the cherry on top.
That being said, I wanted to mention that there's one 6-star that I think is really well designed, because it allows for both creative and fun strategies AND just being a "delete button". And that's Ray. Her S2 is really fun to play with, it requires a lot of consideration and map knowdlege; and while it's good, it still keeps that heavy drawback of having to reload the weapon if you mess up and cycle her sandbeast badly. On the other hand, if you just want big stuff to die ASAP, you equip her S3 and that's it.

So, I don't think Wis'adel being powercrept would be very good, let alone healthy. She is so cracked it isn't funny. For comparison with Typhon (another recent physical damaged ranged OP with big range and comparable skill cycle.
Typhon does about ~113,243.2 damage per skill before defense. She also does ignore up to 60% of enemy defense after the first barrage.
Wid'adel does about 80,757.6~149,401.56 [91,054.194 on average]. This is also done in a MASSIVE AoE (though secondary targets do take 25% less damage). The hits also deal (noncrit) 6.8k+2x3.4k damage, so any defense that can actually stop her renders every other physical DPS super duper useless anyway.
Oh, Wis'adel is also camouflaged as long as any of her 3 super tanking summons are alive. Like Curora level of tank, but with +50 res added on top. Which also deal an additional ~70k DPS during her skill.
For another comparison, Ray has more skill DPS, but she only does about ~78k peak skill damage, so even if she kills faster her total skill damage is less. Let alone her lack of range or adds.
So yeah, we have a competitor for the best ranged DPS in the game, which also hits AoE, which is also (almost) un-killable as long as her literal ranged tank decel binder swarm is alive. Which also re-summons it's self every skill cycle (37-80 seconds). Wis'adel is literally an entire squad unto herself.

Ok, I'm willing to agree with you that W alter's powercreep is unhealthy, but only if you can explain to me how is she different from the others we had before. The same was said for Surtr, Ling, Ch'en alter, Mlynar, and maybe some others in between. You could say that W alter beats anything alone, but that has been the case for most stages anyway with other strong operators. I'm not against the idea that powercreep is bad, but I don't see how she is any different. Is it just because her numbers are bigger? Well, if that is the case of course they will make them even bigger later. Is it because it's scary to think how Arknights would be if they designed the game around these busted characters? That would be a compelling argument, but we don't get rewards for completing the highest level of difficulty they throw at us, and those only exist on seasonal events or alternative game modes; and even if you want to consider those modes, they still are beaten by weaker operators, so it's hard to imagine Arknights designing for W alter and equivalents, because at that point, less than a handfull of players would be able to play the game. So That's where I'm at, I don't see it

@@RewriteKuma Most of them have downsides in addition to having less potential DPS.
-Surtr kills herself after a while while also having much worse target count+range and cannot hit air. Also has lower peak ST DPS.
-Ling is your entire team. Yes she is strong but her full power takes up 7 Deployment slots (and over 100 DP) and she can only be in 3 (4) places at once for such a cost. Not to mention the time to deploy all her dragons. . .
-Chen Alter has much lower range, higher cost and less DPS for comparable damage/skill cycles.
-Mylnar does literally nothing during his downtime and he needs his full downtime to be at full power. He also looses damage with each kill, has the lowest base attack (makes him a bad buff target) and he still does less ST DPS than Wis'adel.
These comparisons also ignore the triplet of 3.5k HP 800 def and attack ranged summons that have 50 res Decel Binders that Wis'adel summons. Which grant her camo when any of them are on the field.
Yeah, you need to deal ~21k arts damage (or at least ~13k phys) between skill uses to even be allowed to attempt to kill Wis'del while getting a nuclear strike repeatably called to your postal code.

      @RewriteKuma  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

@zancloufer ok, so you see it as an operator having no downsides makes for a bad situation, and you think W having more damage than the previous strongest ops is bad.
But let's think what that realistically affects. W alter might make a difference in some low op clears, just like Ling did and to this day she's there soloing stages. That side of competitive Arknights is indeed in a sad state, but that's the case even without W or Ling. You could argue that W is easier to play with, that's fair, and if that's what bothers you, that the strongest op is easy to use, then I can't say anything.
W alter will also allow you to bring her in alongside other strong operators just because someone wants to, to easily beat any stage in the game; but in this case, we already have lots and lots of squads that do the exact same. Maybe you think it's a problem that beginners will have easy access to her and being able to run past everything will make for a less enjoyable experience. I've seen that happening with other operators as well, it won't be a new problem. Maybe having too many of those can be a real problem, but from my perspective, we already have gone past the point where we have too many busted ops and having one more doesn't change the beginner experience.
If all that really bothers you is just the damage numbers, since you brought up the numbers again, then I'm sorry, but W is not the first one to have absurd numbers. Maybe you don't remember, but the fuss a while ago was about how some 6★ where getting over 100k damage. Things have been tranding up for a long time, and it's not W who breakes the bank. If you really think the numbers are the problem, you need to explain to me why, because as I told you, the numbers we already have are more than enough to beat any enemy in the game, and adding more to that changes nothing.
I actually want to understand, but it's not by saying "the problem is that she powercreeps" that you will convince me that her powercreep is a problem, because she is not the first or second to do that, and every time one of these operators came out, nobody saw a flaw in them as well

For me personally I like to play the game with “themed” teams, operators of the same faction / group / race. For example the “church” team where i use only operators from laterano, or the Rhodes Island team where i use only operators that are listed as actual RI employees in the archives (not operators that are “external collaborators” with RI.
And in that regard i don’t care really about their power, in the same team there could be 6 stars, 5 or 4 stars, even 3 stars! Also because to me playing like that the 6 stars really feel more like “elites” that stand out compared to the others and save the day when their weaker companions are in trouble.

Usually whenever there are certain configurations or types that they avoid putting into stages, it's usually because of a six star, like how they tend to avoid Ifrit lanes or how enemies will very seldom be silencable because Lappland exists, But then you have Jaye meaning that they barely ever make strong enemies infected creatures.
I do like playing with the really fancy features so I do tend to run a lot of six stars, though my pull priorities have a lot to do with how weird an operator's kit is. I have definitely left ops not fully built to keep them from getting too strong.
I do think there is something to phantom being irrelevant in IS because being a six star he takes the same amount of hope as any six star and is competing for the same voucher as Texas/Specter alter/Dorothy.

The bosses and all the other enemies won't scale to follow wisadel, or at the very least, it's not expected to be the case; me and many other players continue to beat the game with low rarity ops and weaker squads, and that's because the stats on enemies hasn't changed much since year 2, what has changes is stage design and enemy skill set. The powercreep on operators has always been a reality, and wisadel doesn't really change much, she's just another drop of water on a full cup.
But tbh I sometimes wish to see a reality where Arkngihts decides to make enemies that require the stronger ops on a daily basis, just to see how many players would actually be able to play the game, and I bet on less than a handful

@@RewriteKuma Honestly, I'm agree to that idea. We need something like SV stage would be another great example. The stage where you cant just wipe out the enemy and just brute force it. The stage where you need a proper strat to finish it. I'm still amaze of the mad lad who stall the "SV eggs creature" with a cliftheart (facing backwards) for literal twenty minutes. They used her s2 to cancel her attack animation. The min max of every operator to their max potential use is really pleasing to watch. I didn't even know that game mechanic was exist to begin with.

I don't like 6 stars in general. Not because of their power but because their 3rd skill and 2nd talent is locked behind E2. Getting an operator to E1 80 is too expensive LMD&XP-wise, E2ing that operator is exoensive resource-wise and sometimes the things i was interested in were locked behind lvl 3 module(such as global ASPD buff of Angelina). It just takes waaay too much time to experience what the 6star operator in question is truly capable of. I’ve raised both Absinthe and Kjera and although I love their character designs and the variety of their kits, their skills often don’t charge quick enough or do significantly enough dmg to handle their own. It’s like these 5-star casters are built with a slight debuff to never be too good, which makes sense because this is a gacha, yet 4-star Click can be a better replacement for either of them in my experience. For me, its usually not the operator but certain skills the operator has. I still avoid using Exu s3, Eyja s3, SA s3. Those kinds of skills, mainly SA and Eyja are not fun for me. I will use them when their usage comes up but I never keep those skills in mind when approaching stages. I used Exu s1, SA s1, and Eyja s2 as my default skills for those operators.
In general, I don't find skills that have a long skill cost to be fun to play with, regardless of the power level of the skill. Skadi, Shining, Nightingale, Dusk, Nian, Suzu, Saria, Eyja Alter, Virtuosa all of their s3s and Rosa s2 I avoid using in a vast majority of content.
And speaking for myself, I tend to pick "unconventional" skills to m3 of the 6*s. How many people do you know that m3'd SA s1 and s2 not because they're an SA simp but because they actually like using those skills? I only have Chen s2 m3'd and nothing else. Only s2 for Shining and Nightingale, only s1 for Ceobe. I could keep going but hopefully you get the point. I'm not above using the super strong skills and ops but I don't typically use them.

Kuma, you often say that powercreep is not a problem because stages aren't being powercrept alongside them. I initially agreed, but after thinking about it for a while, I think that's not entirely correct. I find it hard to argue that the first few events, such as (I'm going by the in-game Side Story order here, so I might be slightly out of order) Grani and the Knights' Treasure, Heart of Surging Flame, Code of Brawl etc. are easier than our current events.
Of course, this may seem unimportant, and you might argue that after some time, the power level did stop to rise. However, I think it is hard for old players to appreciate how hard the new events are for new players. After all, old players have a lot more experience when a new event comes around. So an old player might even feel that it's easier to beat new events with low rarity ops than old events with strong ops, simply because they have much more experience.
Notably, off the top of my head, I think that Dorothy's Vision, Vernal Winds, Lingering Echoes, and The Leader, Clip Cliff, and Andoain, are especially hard for new players, requiring new players to pay attention to many more things than a regular stage in order to stand a chance, and/or being DPS checks (it's unlikely for a new player to be able to substantially stall Clip Cliff, Andoain, and obviously not Dorothy Vision boss, for instance).
I conjecture that old events were balanced around new players playing the game for the first time, whilst newer events are balanced around older players. Therefore, in order to make new players able to clear them, HG puts out strong operators. I further conjecture that powercreep is done to attract new players and players who had quit because the game is too hard.
I remember as a newbie, the first event that started after I joined was Dorothy's Vision (I started on March 1), and I struggled for hours to beat DV-EX-8, using Ling. Of course in hindsight I look at arkrec and realize Ling has a 2-op with Spot, but I think it was a difficult challenge. I was unable to beat CM either; though again in hindsight I look at arkrec and realize Ling has a 2-op with Skalter (which can be substituted with any decent damage dealer and a healer). But now, Wisadel solos it, and two-ops CM with Cardigan, because she can partially ignore the main challenges of the stage, that being the map-wide damage, the constant waves with multiple lanes, combined with the threat of high-danger mechs awakening. Of course Wisadel isn't better at Ling at low-op, and the Wisadel clears certainly aren't easy, but I find it hard to believe that Wisadel wasn't made with the intention of making the game much easier.
Which brings me to my main point: One of the problems with this intermittent powercreeping may be that if you don't start with one of these strong whilst easy-to-use operators, new players will find Arknights too difficult; but instead of making the new player experience easier, or making new players feel less bummed about taking a long time to clear their first event, etc., HG seems to want players to spend.
It's like, "Oh, our game is unreasonably hard [to new players], but if you just spend money for this operator, and if this operator is on the banner when you join the game in the first place, it'll be so much easier!" I argue that this is predatory. It's like those games where you occasionally get an impossibly hard stage that forces you to buy powerups to progress, just that Arknights is more subtle, and has a gacha system. I also argue that this does a disservice to new players who might actually derive more enjoyment from eventually conquering an event, rather than doing so because they rolled for a nuke button and leveled it up to E2.
Furthermore, players who do not look up the meta might find the game extremely different from other players, based on what operators they started out with. And, well, it's pretty hard to allow multiple players have very different power levels, and still ensure they are getting the "full" enjoyment from the game.
I also remember a friend of mine seeing that I was at JT8-3, and had lost the fight, and he mentioned how he was stuck there for some months, and that it was a really hard stage. Really hyped me up then I beat it like 2 attempts later. Funnily enough jt8-3 is also one of the few other stages that Wisadel is better than Ling at if you're counting rarity (as in, Wisadel + Mayer clears and is a 6*+5* as compared to Ling duos which were always with another 6*). Kinda funny that, from what I can tell, Wisadel is outranking Ling in the arkrec tier list for low-op solely because Ling has anti-synergy with Mayer and Deepcolor, who are obviously among the best; albeit I don't think that tier list is very accurate.
So, yes, stages are no longer going up in difficulty, but they are already sufficiently high up in difficulty that new players will take quite some time to beat them without the strongest operators.

    • @AelenAltria
      @AelenAltria 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Hasn't Arknights always been like that, though? Sure, Grani was easy, but Wolumonde was a Year 1 event, and it felt like a nightmare for a middle level abilities player like me on release. Managing EX8 Mudrock was a headache without bursting her with SA+Eyja+Angelina aka the leading DPS of the time, very tight micromanagement. I remember physically crying at how many attempts that stage took me on Challenge mode on its release.
The only thing that's changed is that previously they'd recommend you to roll SA/Eyja for easy clears, and now they'd recommend you to roll Mlynar/Logos instead.
And if you're a high ability player, you'll clear both Mudrock and Cliff with 4*.

  • @anastil

Wisadel caused quite a commotion but honestly she has same effect on the game as Surtr's release back in the day. At the time we didn't have many operators to begin with and 6 stars were just better versions of 4 and 5 stars but not really broken (yes Kaltsit is kinda broken but not close to Surtr level of broken). And in all that commotion, people kinda forget that even on CN, the game has no elemental resistance for enemies so logos and Virtuosa are basically true damage delete buttons, especially when combined. You dont need Wisadel to break the entire game if you have at least one of those necrosis dealers. Besides Logos isnt even limited like Virtuosa. If they ever release a 4 star that deals necrosis, they'll definitely break the entire 4 star nichknights unless it will jave same limitiations and drawbacks as Valarquin 🤔
