- Join us for a stroll around the picturesque fishing village of Mousehole, Cornwall, England. Our walk starts in Mousehole Harbour with picture postcard views of Mousehole Beach and Mousehole Village. It's a beautiful summers day and everyone is out enjoying the sunshine. After soaking up the views we explore the quaint narrow streets full of gorgeous cottages, many available to rent for holidays. Mousehole village offers everything you need for a perfect Cornish holiday, with cafes, shops, galleries, pubs and restaurants, you can even sample the fish caught locally that morning!

Mousehole is a village and fishing port in Cornwall, England, UK. It is approximately 2.5 miles south of Penzance on the shore of Mount's Bay. The village is in the civil parish of Penzance. An islet called St Clement's Isle lies about 350 metres offshore from the harbour entrance.
A hundred years ago Mousehole was a bustling port, crowded with local fishing boats, landing pilchards. Each year, early in November, timber beams are laid across the narrow harbour entrance, to protect the village from the worst of the winter gales. Even so waves can still be seen breaking over the harbour wall at high tide on a strong southerly wind.
Mousehole today has retained much of its old world charm with its bustling narrow streets filled with small shops, galleries and cafes. Local cottages built from finely grained Lamorna granite, huddle together around the inner edge of the harbour. The area is protected from the force of the sea by two sturdy breakwaters.
Mousehole was devastated by the loss of the Penlee lifeboat, the Solomon Brown, just before Christmas 1981. Most of the crew were from Mousehole. Penlee Point, from where the lifeboat was launched, midway between Mousehole and Newlyn, is now a memorial to those who lost their lives.
Mousehole lies within the Cornwall Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). Almost a third of Cornwall has AONB designation, with the same status and protection as a National Park.
Famous throughout Cornwall, the Mousehole Harbour Christmas lights are a must see! Each December for over 40 years the village becomes an illuminated spectacle with lights not only on the cottages and quayside, but in the harbour, on the hillside and on St Clement's Isle in the bay.
Another event on the Mousehole Christmas calendar is Tom Bawcock's Eve on the 23rd of December. It is said that the residents of the village were starved of fish because of a stormy winter and that eventually fisherman Tom Bawcock set out into the huge waves. Tom returned with 7 types of fish and the village was saved. From then on, in his honour, stargazy pie has been cooked and eaten on the day. The unique feature of stargazy pie is fish heads protruding through the crust, so that they appear to be gazing skyward.

Back in the 1980's we used to holiday in Cornwall and we visited Mousehole once there was nothing much there, just as your video shows.

Why do some people swim dressed? I can't understand.
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it. We were so lucky with the weather. I'm not sure why some people are swimming dressed. I know sometimes people like to stay covered up to protect their skin from sunburn, maybe that's what they're doing. Best wishes for a happy weekend :)
