I'm from Texas in the US and I've been tracking my ancestors for decades. With the help of Ancestry, I found that some of my Tippett ancestors lived there. My 5th great-uncle lived there. I found a newspaper article from 1936 that he did not report his farming management in regards to moving his swine. He was fined 10/. I'm not sure what that is equivalent of but I've looked up the place online and looks lovely. Hoping to find more.

I remember being there in summer 1973 (awful weather). It was a stunning town center with its mixture of old and new independent shops. This place is economically dead and I'm surprised there's so many awful generic boxes still open. Must be a 'business fed on credit'' kind of thing.

I first visited Calis about 30 years ago. There were two or three houses, one of which let rooms and the use of the kitchen to tourists. There were no shops, cafes or bars. Look what's happened to it now - ruined!
