I always wondered if they made hard cases for souses and how the instrument would be taken apart to fit into it! At my old high school, we had a fiberglass sous that was kept on a stand-seat and rarely played. You're right, though. It's dangerous to run with the sous, but have you ever seen the Kyoto Tachibana SHS Marching Band? They have about 6 souses. Sometimes they use fiberglass ones with "TACHIBANA" painted in big black letters on the bell. Other times they're what appear to be chrome or nickel-plated brass. They actually DANCE with them! Those kids have incredible physical stamina as well as top-notch musicianship beyond their years!
Update I did not get a sousaphone for Christmas 2020 last year I got a saxophone because it was cheaper, but someday I'll get a sousaphone or I will rent one during marching band soon
Might as well buy a used one because I did I did the same thing you’re doing now I saved up a good amount of money and now I’m getting a used conn 36k conn sousaphone
Don’t hold the neck?!?!? How else are you to give the business without blowing the Sousaphone off your body. Have you seen an HBCU Band Battle.?!?!? SideNote: In the TSU Aristocratic of Band, we ran laps with our tuba for conditioning 🤷🏾♂️
Pretty sure this vid was made for a very specific band with new sousaphones. This is most likely the section leader’s attempt at keeping them perfect. Because dude… nobody does this stuff.
I literally do most of these and my sousa is fine
Your video was really helpful because I'm getting a sousaphone for Christmas this year
dang i have to buy mine
@@slurpeenut oof, those aren’t cheap
All of the bands i know are show style bands so they hold the neck
Edit: they have the handle on the neck for a reason
Because due to all the movement one hard step and your neck will swing. Mine does because it's really old and can't hold the neck
@@mikejones2542 oooooh thanks dude
@@mikejones2542and some of them mouth pipes are cracked
Love to see people who put forth effort to take care and make sure that people take care of their sousas

conn 20k is one of themost popular sousaphones, and they are made to be abused.
Your supposed to march holdin the. Necl
My highschool Sousaphone mouthpipe or neckpipe whatever it's called is cracked or broken so we have to hold the neck so it doesn't break
