As a brass player forever, I've been steadfast in my position that the best Tuba anyone could ever play is a Silver King Sousaphone. Smooth sound, easier than most tubas to get a great sound, and just overall a beautiful horn. The Elitists disagree and make fun, but what do they know.
military bands just use concert instruments. You will notice they use regular concert euphoniums as well. In Europe they even march double reeds, but in the US it's rare.
How odd, in Spanish we call the sousaphone a tuba. I even looked it up to make sure. If a tuba is not a sousaphone, than I'm confused even more by this video. I thought I was going to see and hear both, but I guess not.
A disadvantage with the sousaphone compared to a regular tuba, is that the tone is less accurate and the sound stops immediately when you stop blowing. Therefore a regular tuba is preferred when you are having a concert or any other occasion when you do not have to move while playing the tuba. I always use a regular tuba E flat or B flat, even when marching.
Would have been an interesting video if you had actual playing of them by themselves instead of still pics and talking. As if anyone can pick out the Sousaphone among all the other instruments playing in the Marine band. Sorry, a big thumbs down.

I am too polite to argue with you.
@@erepsekahs Elitist.
That’s the kind I play
. . . Invented in the late 1800's (or 19th century) . . . not 'late 1900's".
Not sure why I got this at the top of my recommended 10 years after it was published...has this happened to anyone else?
7 years for me. Proves that the algorithm gods are not as on top of what's going on as those writing & implementing the would have us believe. XoXo
The sousaphone also has a much narrower bore than the tuba.
It's the same.
Sometimes
3:04 kinda surprised theyre not using mellophones
In the marine band they have to use concert instruments they are playing sousa band literature.
3:04 because other devices doesnt work with this time stamp

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Do they sound the same? Does one have a deeper fuller tone?
They sound the exact same but the Sousa projects better and is easier to carry
TheSlime You can rear back and HONK a sousaphone, a Tuba not so much.
THANKS!!
It's easier to blast on Tuba. With Sousaphone you have to force more air.The Sousaphone sounds rounder.
The sound is not the same. Sousa is much louder
en mexico las bandas y grupos nortños traen sousafon pero le decimos tuba
los grupos usan bajo electrica o tololoche a veces usan tuba
Silver King Sousaphone

A Sousaphone is a tuba. A tuba is not a sousaphone.
Doug Hansen So 2 + 3 =5 but 3 + 2 not equals to 5? Even further more confused. I will have to do research on that.
Basically, a sousaphone is a special type of tuba

Contra Is better to use if you don't like sousaphone.
drum major crocker with a baton
frida biritone saxophone
horace wagner tuba
two headed monster bass drum
in 2010
Tuba is vertical, sousaphone is circular
"Differences between a tuba and a Sousaphone" is like saying "Differences between a car and a Chevy"
Yep. A Sousaphone Rocks. Tubas Schlock.
A first model year of any new Chevy will break down frequently
probably more equivalent to say "Differences between a sedan and a corolla"
to us mexicans a sousaphone and tuba are basically the same thing to us
thank you!!
Why do European military band use tuba then
denzel crocker marching band
Contra
This guy speak too close to the mic.
No, he just doesn't use a popfilter
Contras are better
