  • These two titans of solid-state duke it out in this quick comparison. First we'll hear them in a mix, then isolated stereo guitar tracks towards the end.

    Absolutely killer tone from both amps but I’d say the 1503 has a bit more balls. This is the Randall content I’ve been waiting for thanks for making this.

      The RH is really good too. It's tight. You can eq more bottom end into the RH200 with a parametric.

    You nailed what the 200 sounds like: a solid state 5150. Both sound great though. The RG is just a few tweaks from Dime Time, but doesn't cut through like the 200 does. Great video!

  • @pehhah5660
    @pehhah5660 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The RH is so much more to my liking. And if you ask me, it's clearly closer to early Dime sound.
    I wonder if an RH G3 will sound more like an RH G2 or like an RG ...

    I've always wanted to try a Randall RH200 with an Aural Exciter or some kind of other sonic maximizer (in my case, the Exciter on the Zoom MS50G) in the loop of the amp. I've put it in the loop of my Randall RG80 combo and it makes that amp come to life. You don't have to push in the mid scoop button on the amp to get a full, thick tone like you do with the mid scoop, it sounds full enough right off the bat. What i find most impressive about the amp is that if you crank the treble and adjust the presence just enough to where you get enough attack but not to the point where you get a clanky pick attack, you could possibly run the newer Randall RG amps without a boost in front.
    I've done it with my Schecter SLS Evil Twin 6 string and i've gotten spot on early Cannibal Corpse tones without a boost in front.

    I had a first generation RH200 in high school. I loved that damn amp. I regret selling it. It sounded so good, especially once you dialed it in just right. It could probably throw down with the 5150's and Dual Recs of the world in terms of high gain tone.

    I want to flat out call bullshit on the rh200 sounding that good. It was my first head purchase 20 years ago and never sounded this good. Always needed a distortion pedal or multi fx to get anything decent from it. Mines the G2 w a cutout faceplate but yours has a solid faceplate. I'm plugging mine in later w just an overdrive to test this. I'll put a response after. Now I have better cabs to put it through. Great playing.

    • @NumbskullAudioProduction
      @NumbskullAudioProduction  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question. I never really felt that the blue channel offered anything drastically different. The red sounds more "old school" maybe? Blue is a bit tighter and more mid-centric, but they can be dialled in to sound like one another.

    • @Admiral_Bongo
      @Admiral_Bongo 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NumbskullAudioProduction AFAIK, blue channel is basically the red one with an input mid boost, like, to eliminate the need for a Tube Screamer-ish/EQ pedal in front.

    I have and use an RG75 and I thought it sounded pretty damn good for ss. Then recently I read something about putting an EQ pedal in the effects loop. Holy cow! It woke my amp up, It made my tone jump out, its a little confusing to tweak it along with the amps presence knob and on board equalization, but I came up with something pretty damn good eventually, problem is, I keep trying to get it perfect and often end up getting mush. So I finally just locked in the most decent tone I could get and am trying hard not to mess with it...lol.

    Its a damn shame there are no high gain solid state amps modelled in the line 6 helix because they have tighter lows than tube amps. I think the RH has more warm and full sound, the RG sound is nice and crispy but a bit thin. I have RH150 and Marshall MG100 go thru orange 412 which sounds awesome without any pedals, it really makes me think why people buy expensive tube amps and put a solid state pedal in front of it? The 2 amps of mine cost 1000e used in total.
