I Appreciate a young person like you exploring Indian spirituality. Thats a complex topic. The hymn of Mahishasura Mardini was written by Adi Shankaracharya. What Ravana wrote and composed music for is Shiv Tandava stotra. That is also very powerful. Ravana was a devotee of Shiva. He or other demons are not known to worship Durga. They looked down upon feminine energy. He wouldn’t be celebrating her victory over so many Asuras who were his people. That makes no sense. If he worshipped Durga he probably wouldn’t have kidnapped Sita. It was written by Adi Shankara as far as Hindu’s can trace back. Mahishasura mardini is not entirely on tamasik energy. It has a flow where it first describes Durga’s raw power, her anger on the asuras, her victory in battles and in the later parts it celebrates her beauty and her motherly character by calling her the “mother of the universe”. That’s what Durga represents for Hindus.
Hello I just discovered your channel and I'm loving it and the way you connect to the viewers with wit and wisdom. This hymn is precious to me for various reasons not least thanks to the Mahalaya program on Akashvani that popularized it in a very different melody. Oh and I love Ravana the king of Lanka - a man of many talents.
I sing this Stotram every day. The first verse only lol. But I've been singing it for months on end. It's so addicting. I also do it when I need to lock in. It's truly so powerful.
