- [4K] Classic Haunted House Ride at Coney Island, New York. Spook-a-Rama ride has been operating for over 60 years now. We honestly think this ride is way better than what you will find at your typical traveling carnival haunted house ride.
Current admission price is $8 per person.
Spook-A-Rama is a dark ride located at Deno's Wonder Wheel Amusement Park on Coney Island, New York.
What do you guys think of the ride? Do you guys like it?
Filmed June 21, 2018
The “Who Let the Dogs Out?” had me laughing.
100th like
Fun fact, this ride was on of the few that survived hurricane sandy. It use to have a different name I can’t remember. Bonus fact, that dragon on top was actually involved in a fire and I’m pretty sure they just kept it because it looked cool lol
I love these things. I feel like a kid again.
The whole ride is scary but who put on the who let the dogs out
To all the people complaining that this ride isn't scary:
1. This ride is *sixty years old* , give it a break.
2. It was intended as a family ride, meaning kids were intended to ride this thing.
Martin D. I’m not even a kid. (23) but this ride is one of the best haunted houses i’ve seen in my life though!!
Uh Haunted Mansion in Disney is a family ride and decades old too but still one of the greatest classic dark rides.
gissneric
Yes, but that had a bigger budget.
Not scary? That first skeleton scared the hell outta me the rest not so much but it got me at least.
The ride it's self might be that okd but the props inside are only a few years old and from scarefactory.
did anyone else hear, who let the dogs out? lmao
Carl Lamonio It was Hella random too lol
2:59
Well that is horrific, so it fits.
Yeah. It was for those biting wolves lmaooo
Carl Lamonio yes, I did.
Honestly the old feel and absence of music made this actually scary
Luna McLean HAHA you right. Wow that song really compliments the vibe of the ride
Remember the laughing lady?
How cute and so rustic. It's practically an antique and it is such excellent condition. Its been around just as long as Haunted Mansion. The first skeleton made me jump. Oh how it emanates nostalgia!I love the sound the buggy makes and the slight soft clicks it makes. I adore those animals. It is a bit dizzying but I have to admit it has style.
Lol
Cute? How is that ride any cute??? That ride was frightening when I went on it and I was crying the whole time, after that first skeleton popped out.
Places like this scare me far more than actually well put together haunted mantions because of that exact fact; they seem so run down and poorly built, without any ambient sound or music, this one being just a big open warehouse especially - really creeps me out. x.x
I agree....I love the old style haunted house rides the best
Bro go to the one at rye playland you would love it.
@@EM-wo6wfyea i love that they have 2 haunted houses , love playland
The "scary" factor in this is thrown right out the window the moment someone asks "who let the dogs out?"
Ikr lol
PikadrewTheCreeper 😭😭😭😭
Agreed
Kills the 'suspension of disbelief'.
The Baha Men should have stayed in the 90s, so I think mentioning them in 2020 is pretty scary :P
Spook-a-rama is a true Coney Island classic and one of the last remaining pretzel dark rides.
Good to see that someone knows and appreciates the historical significance of an attraction like this. Wish more rides like this survived the years.
So true! This new generation...pffft! No appreciation for vintage nostalgia. Been on the ride numerous times, from a child til an adult, but is it me or does it seem some effects are missing? For one, I recall a Witch jumping (or flying) out towards you...I clearly remember this as I would always wave at her and say, "Hi Grandma!"
I appreciate the ride carts those are pretty cool. How you ride side ways the entire ride.
iam16bits yep
I remember when I was young I went and was scared so I kept my eyes closed the whole ride
Looks better than most carnival horror rides. Giving it props for being 60 years old, actually having moving props (than mannequins), actual scenes (instead of black walls with an occasion of fluorescent paint), and more than 3 monsters in ride (and I don't count paintings of monsters). lol
Considering it's over 60 years old, it's not that bad
@@sweetsunnyvibes they are talking about the rides condition it's not falling apart or anything
Shout out to the lads playing air hockey really loud in the background of the video.
(Odd-Moss) , they were so annoying.
This is really awesome! I love the clicking sounds of the vehicles as they roll through the spook house track ride. A totally classic and vintage amusement park ride of yesteryear still operating today. FANTASTIC! Thanks for uploading.
Indeed. There are so few of these left. I make it a point to go to Coney at least once every year and hop aboard.
Kanao Kanegon , I hear that; something about these vintage rides. But the appearance of 'Who Let the Dogs Out" was random as hay.
the chicken wire is always a sign of the best dark rides.
WHO LET THE DOGS OUT !!!
Those eyes on the doors might be origjnal. I am in my 60s and I remember them as a child.
3:04
LOL.
It started playing who let the dogs out I laughed so much.
3:03 増える父さん〜♪
3:03 Wow sooo scary :l
Now you see why dark ride usually pass through double doors. This ride only has one door, and when it opens daylight lights up the whole ratty interior and ruins the effect. This ride is best ridden at night.
The moving cabs on the wonder wheel are intense, love me some Coney Island
For an old school type of pretzel ride, this was not bad.
They actually have some pretty good animatronics here. Just wish this ride wasn't on ADHD and gave you a little time to soak in what's in front of your face.
There were tons of these old school spook houses when I was a kid. Those loud click click cars, dark musty buildings, twisting tracks, & in-your-face stunts. They were always creepier than the well-designed high-budget dark rides. Spook-O-Rama is one of the very few survivors from a lost era of dark rides. Enjoy it while it lasts!
I remember an indoor section some 30-40 years ago (heading away from main show building) where you'd pass through a garden with alleged poison ivy. Then in the shallow building the cars went behind a "blood" red waterfall behind some glass or mirror.. Further more there were people with (I assume) airguns playing a shooting gallery. Giving the effect you are the target. Somehow they couldn't see you but you could see them. Cool parlor trick. I remember that stretch
目がチカチカする!光の勢いが凄い
Fun fact: the carts used here are in fact authentic Pretzel carts (which would make sense considering they built the ride), but they’re actually not originally from Coney Island. Instead, they were transferred over from Canobie Lake Park in New Hampshire (another historic park), and used for the ride
0:46 *what I REALLY want is a Nathan's Hot Dog AT Coney Island! 😭 Then ride this, of course! Gracias 4 the Upload!* ✌
In the 1960s schools were safe campy batman was most kids favorite TV show.
The Jerky coney island Spooky house ride was plan simple fun intended for young children and teenagers trying get their arm on a girl's shoulder.
Coney Island was the quiessential amusement park designed for your amusement nothing more.
Back in the day children let their imagination run a mock in the spooky house.
The video amused me and brought back happy childhood memories
Thanks for sharing.
Coney Island=“WARRIORS,COME OUT TO PLAY”
This is good ,actual mechanical things jumping towards you and lights ,noises, its excellent ,Millennials and their younger generation minions wouldnt like it though, mainly because they cant take their eyes off their phones long enough to see anything else .
Except this is only how the ride has been since 2013 after hurricane sandy
i went on this ride in 2018. i was scared out of my mind when one of the things TOUCHED MY KNEE. didnt help afterwards that the worker scared the crap out of me and my cousin by jumping up behind our car and screaming before letting us out
Wow! I've never seen more quality scares packed into one short attraction! Love it!
During the 50s there was the Parachute ride. It had a real Parachute and was called STEEPLECHASE.
„Short“?🤔🤔
Who let the dogs out lol😎🐕🐕🐕
Would rather ride one of these "rickety," original old "Carnival" dark rides than the slicked up, "clean," tech-scrubbed rides of today. They have an inherent, deep-rooted, subliminal, fear-inducing, psychologically disturbing creepiness and nerve-jarring reality-chaos that modern rides lack.
i went there today THE CHAINSAW PART WAS SCARY CUZ HE SPITED WATER ON MY HAND
Such a fun ride! Best ridden at night. Also, the camera don't catch all the air cannons to the face or the cobwebs at the end. Always puts a smile on your face this one. Once a year ride for me.
Went on this ride many times as a kid. It was definitely scary. "Who Let the Dogs Out" wasn't there in the 1960s!
Oh man, at the first spook, I just jumped back in my seat!
If you go in real life its scary its so dark
Loved the old timey feel to it.
More hilarious than spooky lol ..who let the dogs out 😂
I love dark rides. Thanks for vlogging them.
I'm 40 years and I'm still scared of the horror house today I challenged my self still scared lol
Omg i love this rid i always go to it in coney island so good
There use to be a park in Wichita Kansas called Joyland, and their version was called the Wacky Shack. I never liked scary rides and only went on it a handful of times as a kid, and each time I would always bury my face in the arm of the person I was with. One cool thing I would keep my eyes open for was at the very beginning.. there were a bunch of neon glow in the dark doors that the car would bang open (I think the later removed those doors). The one thing I hated most in there was this loud truck horn that would sound at a certain point. I still remember how it was always kind of cooler (temp wise) in there and the smell of electricity.
Oh, and so many people complaining about this ride.. I think they missed the part where you said that it's been in operation for over 60 years. Also, it's meant to be for kids to go through. It's just good old fashion fun!
The werewolf with who let the dogs out! 😂
I went on this ride and I closed my eyes the whole time cuz I was scared af
Exactly and I thought haunted house were not even scary i was about to get out the seat and run
Sounds like the car you were in was struggling. The attraction needs work. Too much light showing other patrons and the props.
If spirit Halloween had a convention.
Lmfao when I was like 6 or 5 I went on this I was scared asf n started screaming n crying ... where am newyork babies at?
That was....bad....really bad lol
Well, it's like, sixty years old. Yes, the Haunted Mansion is probably around that age and still better, but that had a bigger budget.
You have to remember this is at Coney Island that’s closed more then half of the year. It’s not a Disney kind of place. It’s more of the local fair/on the boardwalk kind of place. It’s not a place that had a lot of money. It’s full of old school classics.
ElizaShakiraMassini - So true. Disney is great at what they do, but there's something charming about these old classic rides. They are truly vintage old-time fun.
Kanao Kanegon
Too vintage for me. This creeps me out just by watching and the age of it. As if... I don't know. Is it all really fake-kind of feelings.
Never had that with Haunted Mansion
Believe it or not, I've seen worse.
If I gone through that I'll be dead I have all those phobias
Yes this ride looks amazing I love New York and this ride omg I would totally go on. This ride is old if it’s been up for 60 years jeez that’s crazy.
I love the old dark rides. They all seem to have chicken wire.
Old school haunted house ride. I remember the one in Wildwood NJ in the 70's, same rounded seats, rustic look. I was a kid and a little scared. Hehe. :)
I love this ride I've ridden it now for close to 40 years it's not the scariest I know but it's an old school throwback to a better time. Can't wait to ride it again this year.
I'm not scared of anything
I went here a few times in the 1990s and remember it was so run down that workers hid in the shadows and pushed the cart back into action when it would get stuck, lol. Good times.
I think the screaming kids are louder than the ride lol
Unless that constant creaking noise was intentional, I'd say either the track or cart is due for maintenance.
Is that Barenaked Ladies' cover of 'Grim Grinning Ghosts' at the very beginning? lol
Curious layout. Why tuck everything away to THE RIGHT of the façade instead of BEHIND it like other dark rides of this nature?
I actually jumped at that first skeleton jump scare LOL
kkacilane oh thank goodness I am not the only one who did. That one got me & got me good. Not only was it the first one but the angle of the cart and how close it got actually scared me. LOL
IKR
I remember this ride many years ago, had a longer track with two dark houses the other dark house had a waterfall
Yes! Years ago the cars would leave one building then go through a "backyard" with effects then enter another structure, exit that then go back across the "backyard" again and into the first building before exiting again. Correct me if I'm wrong.
$8?!?! The price is scarier than the ride
Holy cow, this is huge! I was not expecting to see so much. That's amazing.
WHO LET THE DOGS OUT????? 🗣🗣🗣🔥🔥
What did that grim reaper say towards the end of the ride? Something about "your soul"?
I love this attraction because it reminds me of the fun fair ones like in Germany and the UK. I like the lighting and the animatronics throughout the attraction. 🎃
3:03-3:07 WHO LET THE DOGS OUT WOOF WOOF WOOF WOOF
Built and owned by a certifiable nut job, it represented the creative yet disjointed landscape of Coney Island. I grew up in Brooklyn and went to Coney Island frequently. This dog ride is always considered to be mediocre at best but it excelled in being completely off-the-wall
I just love the fact it's one jumperscare after another to the point you're just rolling your eyes
I went here I was crying fr😭
Who let the dogs out indeed
I was on this yesterday for the first time and it was terrifying, BUT you HAVE to go at night. In this video you can see the animatrpnics too well and before you're supposed to because light from the outside is peaking in. At night it is PITCH BLACK in there
Great vídeo my friend! !!!!!!
When I took my son through this we saw a grand total of three things inside, the rest was complete darkness. Loooong stretches of absolutely nothing. So weird and very disappointing!! Wild to see how much is "usually" in there I guess going by this video?!
Never in my life has a skeleton made me jump until now oml
Good! Could be more darker.
I wish that I was there in real life! Best haunted house ride i’ve seen in my life!
I’m from Holland and the haunted houses here are sooooo bad if you compare it with ride.
Bas W this is nothing in in the USA we make very terrifying haunted houses. Just look around on TH-cam. Especially Transworld conventions. They sell the haunted house props.
This ride scared the crap out of me when I was a kid. I wrote books based on it. I'm in my 50's.
1:52 got me good 😂😂
The scariest part of this ride is the lack of a soundtrack, it makes you feel like you're entering a psychopath's dungeon.
It would have been better at night!! Some of those creatures need oil.or grease!!
Cool footage 👍👍👍
Makes you appreciate Disney's animatronics lol
I went here and it's was scary I went with my dad and my sister mom where screaming it's is but if you have your flashlight on your phone it makes it easy
That was random... who let the dogs out?!
I'm 66 and remember this ride from when I was a kid. What I remember most about Spook-a-Rama was the smell of the ancient wood as the car banged through the entrance doors.
Amazing how a ride can be so scary and so lame at the same time.
Really great Ghost Train deffinently one of the better ones out there but what i think would make it even better is if they split everything with walls because you can kind of see whats coming some times and i think that eould make it even better
I love your videos keep going! Come in France we've got a lot of rollercoasters as well :D
NYC I KNOW CONEY ISLAND I GOT THERE
It’s sad they cut the length of this by like 2/3 during renovations
They should have taken me to ride this 50 years ago back when I was 6 going on 7.
I actually went on this ride my sister pulled key out of these things and threw it
This ride is soooo old I’m surprised it’s still working. Squeaky and all 😂
Theres something so jarring to me about seeing these incredibly high quality animatronics scattered between the rails of a god damn pretzel ride.. Doesnt sit well with me personally. The whole ride was flooded in 2012 and almost everything in it was completely ruined, so i understand the updates. Its quite a miracle this thing still exists at all, actually, so i suppose theres no use in complaining. Long live Spook A Rama
This scared tf out of me in the 90s. I never saw what was inside until now 😂😂 there was a lady that screamed so loud I guess they took her out and replaced her with “who let the dogs out” lmao
