Interesting, I just turned 60 on April same, army during the cold war. And yes, I was a republican, if you want to know? But, until Reagan's 1st year into his second term I got caught up with what was happening in Germany and the world. I realized what my party was saying and what was happening? In our country didn't fit! I paused for 5 years before I realized, that the Democrat party became the republican party and republican party became the Democratic party... back in history!😢😅😂

Indeed. The problem with this 4 year cycle of presidential elections is how much the better campaigner tends to be the winner. Who can be quicker and more clever, and put more zingers and one liners into the media more consistently. The better campaigner does not at all imply a better governor which is the actual job. It's like if job interviews for plumbers were dance contests.
That is a structural problem with Presidential Republic systems. There are pros and cons of this compared to Parliamentary Republic but it seems to be an increasing bigger problem in the ever fractured media landscape, performative culture and short attentions spans.

Project 2025 is basically the Heritage Foundation wishlist. The Heritage Foundation often has some influence over Republicans administrations, just like progressive or center left think tanks often influence Democrat admins. Doesn't mean that it's necessarily "Trumps plan" or that he signs off on all of it. Anyone who pays any attention should know that Heritage has always had disagreements with Trump and the new base. Heritage are more establishment Republicans as far as economics go, for example. Aka, free market fundamentalist cringe.

After Thom described the transfer of economic power to the wealthy in the 1920s and 30s, which touted the trickle down theory, and the last 2-3 Republican administrations that followed this same theory who repeated it, it's no wonder our country has more billionaires than ever before and crushing poverty. If only the young republicans in the 80s were enlightened to the disastrous path it would lead this country. Our educational path in the past 60 years has encouraged more young people not to seek further degrees and most of those who have come from wealthy families. Our current Supreme Court has now leagally cemented this to continue.

Do we have to go to DC and camp out in protest? Probably can't do that anymore, either.
I'm 74 yo. Fifty years ago, my generation swore when WE got into power, things would change. We conducted sit-ins and protests and some of our numbers were shot dead by government agents at Ohio State U. With blood spilled, we may have moved the Overton window a bit, but all that hard work was reversed by the smell of money. Some of our generation joined the ranks of the enemy. Principles were no match for riches. The rest of us stopped paying attention and let progress slip away.
