  • The rise of city suburbs happened in the mid 20th Century as family’s sought comfort, convenience and space. This social movement caused downtown areas in many cities to dwindle and experience economic strife. Bertrand Goldberg wanted to slow this urban exodus by designing and building one of the first mixed-use developments along the Chicago River. Visit architecture.org/buildings to learn more about Chicago’s most iconic buildings and discover how Chicago’s rich architectural legacy was built.

I always loved the Marina City, they really feel magic to me! I wish some day I can visit apartments (and in exchange I can offer a nice stay in Italy, lol).

nice video!! i used to live there :) stunning lake and city views, fireworks, parties yay!! now i live closer to the ground w/ lots of trees around, but it was fun... btw, the ice rink became a bowling alley - not sure if it's still there.
