Same here, when I was growing up I loved watching it on my VHS while playing with all my Thomas the Tank engine toys, sometimes I would even recreate scenes from the film with my toys. So yeah this movie is also part of my childhood.
If Britt Alcroft had gone with the original story for the movie, and had Thomas, Percy and James sound like actual mean, and have a whole cast of the Sodor engines in the movie then I guess it could've gotten either 40% or 50%. It depends on how dark it would've been.

Scenes like this are what make this movie so special. There's so many quiet scenes. Scenes without dialogue, where characters are simply reflecting. This is what makes this film feel magical
I realize this movie is not ground breaking or fantastic....but I feel such pleasant nostalgia when watching this and listening to that lovely song. This movie will always be a part of my childhood
I watched this movie as a kid and in hindsight, as an adult, it feels kind of odd that a steam locomotive is portrayed as operating an intercity train in the year 2000. However, I understand it was just a plot device since the movie is litterally about an anthropomorphic diesel locomotive attempting to actively harm other anthropomorphic steam locomotives. Also, starting at 0:10 you can see what appears to be an amtrak p40 genesis locomotive making a cameo in the reflection of the train window, which is something I didn't notice as a kid. It really highlights the contrast between the steam train and the time that its actually in.
The soundtrack for this movie is one of the BIG reasons why I still watch this movie to this day (on special occasions). To be honest, I nearly shed a tear when I reheard this song again after so many years. Along with Really Useful Engine, the Main Title theme, and the Ending theme. This movie is the kind of movie I would watch with my future wife and kids someday.
I never realized that Billy's train was my favorite: Norfolk and Western 475 "M" class. Beautiful song, beautiful meaning, and beautiful engine. Thank you Britt Allcroft for bringing Thomas to America.

I love this song as well it really does tell the truth about how hiding your emotions can make you ignorant to the beauty around you at least that's how it was back in the day. In today's world I'm not so sure that letting your emotions flow freely is something that people cherish anymore.
@@kiramiryam208 it’s not flawless but I think the criticism definitely took it’s toll a lot more than it should’ve. It seems pretty relatable to treasure planet in that way. Treasure planet had good reviews but it still did pretty poorly financially so much so the sequel was canceled sometimes even great movies just don’t do well.
I rode that train today for the first time in 20 years 🥹🥲. I sat in the same seat as her and played this song on the trip. It brought back so many memories from when I was 5. I teared up multiple times tbh. Especially when buying the ticket.

I remember right before covid-19 became a worldwide problem I had just finished a rough day at work and I decided to ride on my local railway just for the heck of it because I hadn't been on it in years. After a while as soon as the train was fully empty i played the full version of this at high volume as I watched everything pass by
