- This video has been a long time coming as my niece Isla has been asking for her very own bowl for ages. We finally managed to make it happen and now she is the proud owner of a group of Neocaridina shrimp and a beautiful ecosystem bowl.
I reckon this is just the beginning, before too long she will be asking for her own fully scaped aquarium! WATCH THIS SPACE!

When I was about 10, one of my cousins gave me a little fish tank for Christmas, which kicked off a life long love of all things aquatic. I hope to be able to pass the love along, if not to one of my kiddos, maybe to one of my nieces or nephews 🙂

What a sweetheart. Ah, I'm talking about your niece Matt. Sorry. LOL 🐠. She needs 1 little fish in there. Maybe a scarlet badass? Or a couple of those. They're really tiny and like to hide. So maybe a chili rasbora? You know, something small, colorful and active that won't bother the shrimp. IMO.💁 That eco system is gorgeous. I love buce. But it's hard to find in my area. And expensive when you do find one scraggly little start. 🍃 I just can't make myself pay 20 dollars for 2 little leaves. Your plant choices are perfect. Did you choose them? Or your niece? I really loved the way you included her in building her eco system. Very cool Uncle Matt. Very cool.

Buce is definitely not a cheap plant but worth it if you can get decent ones.

Question - Does this set up not need an bubbles or anything? To break the surface tension? Is that just a fish thing? 😅
No doesn't really need surface movement, it totally depends on the fish. Some fish will need super amounts of flow and bubbles some fish live in stagnant puddles. You've given me an idea for a future video.

I am actually fascinated by the different criterias for fish(+) keeping. I know MD (I found your channel through him) barely ever uses filters, as he uses lots of plants - which I love, but there's so many opinions and ways of doing things when it comes to filters and pumps and air stones and I don't know what - it's easy to get confused. Would be very sad to have fatal consequences from confusion.

Matt just wondering what fish/shrimp/plants are OK to be kept in an aquarium without a heater - looked online but lots of conflicting information so thought I'd ask an expert.
So so many look for fish labeled temperate and she should be good. I will add it to my list of videos to do!
Looks really good Matt. I thought buce needs co2?, does it not?.... I never had any luck with it without co2.
I've got it growing in my bowl and several other tank with no co2 used to have it in an axolotl tank too and it done well .

How did you add shrimp to a brand new bowl?
Using NT labs dechlorinator and bacterial starter and also having the buces in a mature holding tank meant everything was quick to establish.
Matt what do u say about using seiru rocks with betta? I want to mimic ur rare tetra tank but in a smaller scale(20g tall) and it would be for a betta and other acidic water fish and was worried about the ph fluctuations. Do u think it'll be fine or any other recommendations like river stone?
As long as there isn't too much stone work you should be fine. The tetra tank actually used rounded river pebbles which have been fairly inert.
