    Finally got my A7II, obviously I considered a more modern camera like A7III but I was on kind of a budget, even looked for some APS-C cameras before finding your channel. Then your videos encouraged me to keep my decision for the A7II and can't be happier about it. Now I'm saving for my next lens. I went all-in and skipped A, S and P modes all at once and decided to learn M mode since day 1. A bit of a rough start be I know it will pay off at the end.
    Thank you once again for sharing your thoughts and tips on this awesome camera!!

  • @CharlieForbes524

    @JustBWise - Bokeh is a just term for the quality of the out of focus areas when you have narrow depth of field. Depth of field can also be called zone of focus. The wider the aperture or smaller the f-stop number the narrower the depth of field (DOF). DOF is also tied into the sensor size, focal length, and the distance the subject is from the camera. Generally, I have found wide angle lenses tend to have more in focus near to far even at wider apertures. While the more telephoto you go, the more shallow the DOF gets. The closer the subject is to the lens, even on wide angles, you can see more bokeh/shallow DOF as well.
    So when the DOF is inches or less, the accuracy of the focus sensor is more important. Just subject moving can make them go soft. So while many want that shallow DOF, if your subject is moving a lot forwards and backwards, having slightly higher aperture... like f3.5 - f5.6 might be more advantageous to keep them sharp. For video, you may want to get a larger monitor or magnified viewfinder and use focus peaking to focus manually.

    hello. I using the sony a7s mark 2 and using a sony 24-70 G series. I have face detect on and I am continuous auto focus . Focus area is set to wide and and have set it to centre. Real big issue I am having is that background shudders, focus hunting whenever the subject moves during an interview. Its not noticeable on the viewfinder or EVF but when I get back to my rushes you can notice and turns the shot. I have had to revert back to manual focus for the time being. Any ideas what is going wrong ?

    I've had the A7II for a while now but I have always used manual focus lenses. I just got a 24mm GM and I noticed that even with out doing anything, when my camera is on, the lens is adjusting focus, is there a way to turn this setting off? I don't really want the camera wasting battery adjusting focus on its own. It happens every few seconds or when I re compose.

      I’m guessing your camera is in af-c which is continuous autofocus. Hit the fn button and you can check. Use the front/back dials (shutter/aperture) to change.

    Lot's of helpful info here. Love the A7II. I hate to be that guy, but at 9:36 autofocus works better with LARGER apertures (smaller f-number).
    Your term "lower aperture," is confusing. A small aperture and small f-number are not the same thing. Apertures get LARGER with a SMALLER f-number (the hole in the camera opens up more), which makes the background blurrier. It's definitely feels backwards at first. You know what, I agree with your statement that people should just go watch the B&H explanation. :D

    Correction to bokeh... bigger the apperture is (lower apperture number) the more blury background is :)

    • @JustBWise
      @JustBWise  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is technically right but saying it this way can be confusing to some. But yes a wider aperture has a lower number. Therefore, typical when someone says raise or lower the aperture they are referring to the number.

      That lens is a manual focus lens on the a7ii, the samyang 45mm gives pretty decent autofocus though.
