On my 6400 I have various objects in the edges of my frame go in and out, or "breathe" as another photographer described it. Even my faces. I was using Wide so I decided to try zone. Hole this helps. I hate it when it searches all across the frame .

hey brother, I got a huge problem. When I do an up and close shot on the a5100 the AF focuses on lets say a bag with 50 different things in it, WHAT the 6400 does it tries to focus on everything in the same bag. I tried zone, I tried center shot, wide, everything and I cant figure out why It doesnt do as good as focusing than the 5100 did.

A long shot. . . Why does my 16-35mm EF lens hunt whenever I set autofocus, shooting video. Static shot, once it finds focus, which it does very fast, it hunts, constantly focusing and refocussing while recording, even if the nothing changes in the frame. Its driving me crazy. The only way Ive found to stop it, is to turn AF off. And that's not okay for me. Sony A73.

I just discovered the focus issue with LED light behind the subject. Manual focus does eliminate it of course. I also minimized the effect if focus was set to registered face recognition. But Manual is the only sure way I could find to totally get rid of the problem. Glad you pointed this out. It needs to be a topic for a vid.

Chris Featherstone do you experience the same trouble when monitoring via USB port? I was recording a video, using an A7iii + sigma art 35mm, monitoring on my computer and the camera focused on the microphone I was holding. Not on my face. 😖 I have lost some hours of work. Haha I believe the A7iii has this “problem” also when monitoring via USB port.

Hi Jason - Very helpful upload buddy. Just got my Sony a6500 last week. I shoot food vlogs. I am little worried about the constantly changing auto-focus - I mean I may have to move around a lot while shooting - show my face - crowd - food plate etc one after another while shooting. I did a trial shoot but the time it takes to auto-focus from one object to another (automatically) is almost 3-4 seconds. While shooting I will not be able to manually re-press on the screen again & again to focus on the object being video-graphed. Can you please suggest what should I do so that my camera remains auto-focused on the overall view.

Mark Norman How did you get on man? I’m a 70d user and my go to lens is the Sigma 18-35 too! I’m about to buy an A7iii but will want to use the Sigma for a while until I buy into Sony glass! I’m a film guy mostly.
