I've got an 8-10" sarassa in a 400gal outdoor pond with 14 other koi / goldfish. This sarassa isn't swimming poorly, doesn't scratch, eats well, etc. His issue is there are what would look like a fungal "fluffiness" on the leading edge of both pectoral fins. The issue is this fluffiness isn't white or grey, it's orange. The fin is mostly clear, but the "growth" on the leading edge is orange, and about the size of 1/2 a pea. The fish is about 70% orange, and the rest light yellow / white.I've set the salt at 3ppt for now, and am giving everyone in the tank a flake with Praziquantel. I already did the normal Spring prazi treatment. I can treat with antibiotic or other treatment, but I don't know if this is a bacteria, fungus or virus. I just noticed it a few days ago, and had sworn that he didn't have anything a week before (or so).I may remove him from the pond into my hospital tank, and perhaps get a scraping on a microscope slide. But the two locations look so symmetrical, I'm wondering if it's some kind of natural thing...like some mating behavior or something that happens in the Spring. If you have any ideas, please let me know. Thanks,-Ambi
Lost a couple Bettas in the ast two days, with a third on the ropes. Thought it was the Big "C", until you were suggested. The thing with Saprolegnia, is that it takes place in no time. The "main" offending seemed to be a Betta pellet that got wedged between the glass and the filter. There's a stain, with "threads" shooting out from it (on the glass). Thanks a million. Stay blessed.
I keep getting this with any food pellets (and recently on the flakes and frozen food) that have been leftover. It happens fast too and I have been on top of feeding the right amount and cleaning. But just today, I noticed my angelfish has a gigantic clump of this mold growing on his side. It happened literally overnight. I fed the fish before bed, got up to some flakes left on the leaves of plants that already grew the mold. And didn't notice anything with my angel until a few hrs later. Idk what to do. He was in a tank with white clouds, some snails, and dwarf crayfish. I took him out to treat, but I am sure I am going to need to treat the entire tank. Even tho the wc look completely normal. I took the crayfish out too. Is there any way to get rid of this? I noticed for me it comes and goes where no food will grow fungus for a while even if left in tank till the snails get to it. Then out of nowhere I notice no snails touching leftover food, and within hrs the food will grow the fungus. This is the first time I have ever seen it on a fish of mine that was still living and its freaking me out.
Many causes; From Shimmies (a disease mostly of Livebearers), osmoregulation issues due to water quality, to parasites. IMO, this is a question well beyond a TH-cam comment section. I would start with reading this article before treating with anything: www.aquarium-pond-answers.com/2016/09/how-to-treat-sick-fish.html As well as this: www.fishbeginner.info/home/my-fish-are-sick-what-do-i-do/ Further: www.aquarium-pond-answers.com/2007/10/mollies-in-aquariums.html
It is not likely a swim bladder issue. I would give the resources I provided earlier a read. Too many possibilities without knowing history, long term water parameters, feeding, etc. This is a topic that once all this history/information is provided is best served in a science based aquarium forum such as: everythingaquatic.proboards.com/
What you might look into is quarantine procedures, which generally are the same for most any imported, wild caught fish (fresh or marine). This article has a section dealing with quarantine, as well as other aspects of keeping as disease free an aquarium as possible, from water chemistry, to feeding, to true UV Sterilization.: www.americanaquariumproducts.com/Aquarium_Disease.html
Good info in this video. I'm surprised how many of these videos have people demonstrating difficulty pronouncing columnaris... The advice, however , is sound.

internal disease that would cause shaking or movements very fast before the fish died? no signs of outward body disease any ideas of what is going on.

So this would most likely not be swim bladder infection? It was a fresh water change before adding the sunny fish

Can you talk about when you import wild fish from South America ? I'm really into Loricaria type fish like whiptails and others along with knife fish
