ROLEX is introducing the new generation of its Oyster Perpetual Submariner and Oyster Perpetual Submariner Date. Both timepieces now feature a redesigned, slightly larger 41 mm case - whose profile is highlighted by the light reflections from the case sides and lugs - and are fitted on a remodelled bracelet. They are equipped with movements at the forefront of watchmaking technology - the Submariner with calibre 3230, unveiled by the brand this year, and the Submariner Date with calibre 3235, offering both time and date functions, and used in the Submariner range for the first time.
True to its aesthetic heritage, the new Submariner in #Oystersteel has a black dial
and rotatable bezel with matching Cerachrom insert. A yellow #Rolesor version (combining Oystersteel and 18 carat yellow gold) of the Submariner Date presents a royal blue dial with a rotatable bezel and a blue #Cerachrom insert. Two versions of the Submariner Date, one in Oystersteel and the other in 18 carat white gold, bring distinctive colour combinations, with the dial and Cerachrom insert in different hues. The first watch blends a black dial with a green bezel, while the second proposes a black dial and a blue bezel.
Like all Rolex watches, the Oyster Perpetual Submariner and Submariner Date are covered by the Superlative Chronometer certification redefined by Rolex in 2015. This exclusive designation testifies that every watch leaving the brand’s workshops has successfully undergone a series of tests conducted by Rolex in its own laboratories according to its own criteria. These certification tests apply to the fully assembled watch, after casing the movement, guaranteeing superlative
performance on the wrist in terms of precision, power reserve, waterproofness and self-winding.
The precision of a Rolex Superlative Chronometer is of the order of −2/+2 seconds per day (!!!), or more than twice that required of an official chronometer (COSC = -4/+6 seconds per day).
The Superlative Chronometer status is symbolized by the green seal that comes with every Rolex watch and is coupled with an international five-year guarantee.
The new-generation Submariner and Submariner Date are equipped respectively with calibre 3230 - launched this year - and calibre 3235, movements entirely developed and manufactured by Rolex. At the forefront of watchmaking technology, these self-wind- ing mechanical movements led to the filing of several patents, and offer fundamental gains in terms of precision, power reserve, resistance to shocks and magnetic fields, convenience and reliability.
Calibres 3230 and 3235 incorporate the #Chronergy escapement (Frequency: 28,800 A/h = 4 Hz), patented by Rolex, which combines high energy efficiency with great dependability. Made of nickel-phosphorus, it is also insensitive to magnetic fields. The movements are fitted with an optimized blue #Parachrom hairspring, manufactured by Rolex in an exclusive paramagnetic alloy that makes it up to 10 times more precise than a traditional hairspring in case of shocks. The blue Parachrom hairspring is equipped with a Rolex overcoil, ensuring the calibres’ regularity in any position. The oscillator is fitted on the Rolex- designed and -patented high-performance #Paraflex shock absorbers, increasing the movements’ shock resistance.
Both calibres are equipped with a self-winding module via a Perpetual rotor. Thanks to their barrel architecture and the escapement’s superior efficiency, the movements’ power reserve extends to approximately 70 hours.
The Oyster bracelet on these new versions is equipped with a Rolex-designed and -patented #Oysterlock folding safety clasp, which prevents accidental opening. It also features the Rolex #Glidelock extension system, designed and patented by the brand. This particularly inventive mechanism comprises a rack located under the clasp cover and a toothed sliding link that locks into the chosen notch. The Rolex Glidelock on the Oyster bracelet has 10 notches of approximately 2 mm, allowing the length of the bracelet to be adjusted easily, and without tools, up to some 20 mm.

After collecting some of your interesting questions in the last days I past them on to #ROLEX in Geneva and just some minutes ago ROLEX sent me an email with the following answers…
1. What is the lug-to-lug distance of the new ROLEX Submariner and ROLEX Submariner Date?
The lug-to-lug distance of the new ROLEX Submariner and Submariner Date increased by 0,05 mm from before 48,16 mm to now 48,21 mm
2. Did the sizes of the dials of the new ROLEX Submariner and Submariner Date increase?
The size of the dial of the new ROLEX Submariner and Submariner Date increased by 0,30 mm from before 27,0 mm to now 27,3 mm.
3. What is the actual height/thickness of the new cases of the ROLEX Submariner and Submariner Date
The thickness of the ROLEX Oyster Perpetual Submariner is 12,4 mm
The thickness of the ROLEX Oyster Perpetual Submariner Date in Oystersteel and in yellow Rolesor is 12,4 mm
The thickness of the ROLEX Oyster Perpetual Submariner Date in white or yellow gold is 12,2 mm
4. Is the bracelet sold of the ROLEX Submariner and Submariner Date also with half-links or only full-size links?
No, the bracelet is not sold with an additional half-link.
5. Is the color of the blue (dial & Cerachrom) Submariner Date the same as it was before on the “old” model? Did the color-tone change? Same question also for the green…
Yes, all colors of the dials and the Cerachrom-inlays in the bezels are identical to the ones before.

I was going to get the submariner but non of the dealers had it and did not even put me on the waiting list .Then I saw the black face 39 mm oyster perpetual which I loved and purchased right away.That was the best move because I also had money to left over to get tudor blue bb 58 which is an amazing watch.I can’t believe you can get a watch of this quality for 3700 dollars.So now I have two beatiful watches instead of one

Thanks for posting the video Alexander. Nice to see on the wrist. I’m more of purist and prefer the no date. Did they seem more refined compared to the super case regardless of being 41mm? Visually the proportions seemed better. Thinner lugs and a wider bracelet seems to work well.
The no date Submariner is also my favorite... The new case felt good on the wrist. I have a 17 cm wrist and I often do wear bigger watches so for me just perfect...
All a great development of the Submariner, slimmer lugs and updated movement. The blue bi metal is truly a thing of beauty.

Thanks for the review. Quite unsure about this one they shaved the lugs but make the diameter and the bracelet wider which noticeably huge on the wrist. Diameter, lug to lug and bracelet contributes to the overall size of the watch.
This video alone will sell a LOT of new Submariners... it gets better with every viewing! Makes me feel like getting into the sea with my own Sub and doing some diving under the waves! Rolex knocked this one out of the park for sure!

Never a fan of black dial with color bezel, so I was never a fan of the Green aluminum (aka Kermit), I like the Bluesy the best because of blue dial and blue bezel!! (P.s I own both 116613LB & 116610LV)

The latest generation of Omega and Rolex calibres do set the benchmark for the entire watch industry. No one else is manufacturing anything comparable...
I think when Rolex introduced this square chunky maxi case it was a backwards step. The older submariners much more elegant classic case design.
I recently sold my old Sub Date #116610LN and bought a Sea Dweller 43 #126600. I’m happy I did. The new 2020 Sub is just catching up to everything else in the Rolex lineup, with the upgrade to the Caliber 3235 movement. Otherwise, the cosmetic changes are fairly minor.

The Calibres 3230/3235 are together with the Master Chronometer Certified calibres of Omega the best you can get for your money... all other manufacturers are lightyears behind... 😉

Fantastic overview, I was never a fan of the now superseded green submariner (aka hulk) but this green ceramic bezel w/ the black dial looked stunning on your wrist I must admit.
I didn’t like the Hulk either... too much green... now that combination black and green is much better...

WatchAdvisor On the web fotos it looks like a dark green like on the aluminum green sub... In my opinion a darker green would fit better with a black dial

Agree, some essential questions weren't addressed. "Nice" green doesn't exactly offer a comparison between kermits new and old.

@@jh-il5sb Good question! I'm in the lucky position to own the original oyster bracelet blnr, so I'd definitely look to add the new green Sub to my collection. The white gold Sub is beautiful, love it! But it would be really heavy for a daily watch and I'd worry a bit about the denting and scratching of the the gold.
I really like the new designs. I like that they have to guts to change an icon. I think they improved it. I know not everyone feels that way. But, I think they are improved.

great video... BUT... My first impression is the bracelet is too wide and I understand they have increased the width of the bracelet... OH NO! 😩 why has Rolex done that? with the larger case at 41mm the wider bracelet will make it wear much bigger... oh no, oh NO! My Favourite is the white gold and I like the new 70hr power reserve, that is nice, the wider bracelet though really spoils it.

To my heart and eyes these 2020 Submariner models are simply gorgeous ! Yes, I am afraid that 41mm will be too large for my wrists but I find the proportions of dial, bezel, slimmed lugs and bracelet to be almost perfectly matched ! There are some details that require closer inspecion - white letters on that Blue sunburst dial of Rolesor model, slightly thicker and apparently shorter hour hand - but, overall, the whole series is stuning ! And, no doubt, material and quality wise - these are the best Submariner watches ever ! I just hope Rolex makes them widely available and helps us all get over these gloomy times !

Looks huge, and those lugs aren’t that much smaller compare to the super case, yikes, people with small wrists, be prepare. My wrist is 6 3/4 and I think that 41mm will be too big for my taste.

Better in lug width and finally a better movement like GMTs. I have my two Rolexes - Daytona Panda 🐼 & white Gold GMT w\ you favorite color blue dial. Done with Rolex. Over mass produced but best brand.

First rule in Handling a Luxury watch. 1. Never let the case back rest against the bracelet. Why? Especially with New examples you could scratch the Case Back. .

The exact measurement is 40,53mm, only 0,31mm larger than the last model. Not a big deal.

One of the important things I have learnt on this channel is there is a diversity of fine watches other than Rolex. (I have a Rolex).

There is a HUGE diversity and we will continue only to show real watches, real quality and real value. Rolex delivers the very best watches Made in Switzerland manufactured in this quantity together with Omega and when there is something new and important to communicate about Rolex we will of course do it. But what I will never do is literally masturbating in every video with the big name Rolex and be a poser with Rolex. I am so feuds with all these silly Rolex videos ... kind of: "Will my car accelerate faster if I wear a Rolex?" There are many other brands we need to feature and this is what I will continue to do...

Beautiful new Rolex Submariner collection. I like the Rolex Submariner green bezel with black dial, I like the white gold blue bezel with black dial, I also like the two-tone Rolex with a blue dial. I will predict that the waiting list in the USA for the green bezel and blue bezel will be long. I don't think is a good idea for Rolex to create a Rolex Submariner without a date.

Nice video but I prefer the former version of the Submariner. The bracelet on these watches just look massive. Now I know that there is only a mm difference with this model when compared to the last generation, but it just looks too big now, I think I'll stick with my super case Sub 🙂

Hmm something isn't right. The tapering looks off, if you look at the last link that attached to the clasp, it's noticeably fatter then the previous 40mm model. It looks far less elegant. I hope you can understand what I mean and can confirm? I guess the wider oyster bracelet is the cause of this. Thanks for video. Best wrist video of new models yet.

Expressed interest with my AD for the Submariner 124060 in June and got the call to pick up in Oct. That’s in the UK so despite the supply ‘shortage’, build your relationship with your AD and these watches can be bought at Retail. The Sub41 wears better than the chunkier 11XXXXX references. A keeper for sure 😎

You seem to have an honest AD that really sells the Rolex watches he gets to potential customers in his store for retail price… You know, every intelligent customer knows, that there is no real shortage. Rolex manufactures > 1.000.000 watches per year. Unfortunately many ADs don’t act like this… the shortage and stories around are artificially created, so that the chances to sell the watches for overprice rises … it is a GREEDY (disgusting) business … Lucky you! May your Submariner always show you happy seconds, minutes and hours…
I am waiting for the call. I was told I would get one by April, but who knows maybe they said that because I was buying a watch at the time. They told me they do not know what they are getting with each Rolex shipment and I am not the 1st in line to request a 124060. Congrats!

We collected a Rolex Oyster Perpetual 31mm with the dark blue dial after a 4 month wait... and i just received my no-date sub. Total wait time 9 months. Again, in the UK.

Thank you for this, Alexander. You have showcased these new watches beautifully. For anyone who thinks they are boring or not radical enough, that is what Rolex is all about. This new design is a truly evolutionary iteration of a classic. I love that they have slimmed down the super case, the watches look so purely elegant. And with the new design, the 41 mm diameter probably helps with the slimline profile.

I knew when they said ceramic bezels that they wouldn’t look as nice in person as in the pictures, the promo shots show the new “Kermit” with a glossy British racing green insert but clearly it has the rather revolting satin one.

Very nice presentation best introduction so far. That bracelet looks really wide now which is just my mind adjusting to the new dimensions but overal it looks very balanced in design. I’m so used to the broad shoulders of my ceramic sub that, for me, it’s just part of its muscular chunky tool watch look; it always makes me smile when people go on the offensive about the wide disproportionate lugs on the previous model - it’s a rugged dive watch built to take a beating folks not a precious dress piece and safe queen! :)
That blue dial on the new bluesy is a better shade in my eyes maybe I’ll join the endless wait list and finally pick one up in 2025! Thanks again man, your photography is second to none as always!

They look great, especially the green one. Unfortunatelly only the grey-market dealers and their clients will ever be able to buy one. All the others, like me, will be stuck on the waiting lists 🤭
No! Rolex has already massively delivered these novelties to its ADs! So if they don't play silly games you should be able to buy the watches...

Für Ottonormalverbraucher, auch wenn er die nötigen Mittel hat, sieht das anders aus. Und so harre ich auf den Wartelisten weiter aus😜

Great video, who cares about specs increase of 1mm that some people fuss about? What important is that it looks good as always. Rolex is really good in making small watch look big, while big watch looks slim and elegant. The Rolex way!
What you get when you buy a Rolex is a watch that probably never will get and look old... Only very few other manufacturers can claim this too...

I wish they just put the new movement in the old maxi case, trim down very slightly the lug width and we have a winner.
That is basicly what everyone wants. They have corrected the lugs but messed something else up intensionally so that there is always room for improvement. This way you can easily sell another submariner generation in 10 years from now.
Tastes are different! The new case is much more appealing to me...
@@WatchAdvisor fair enough everyone has his own taste and you can prefer the new generation over the older one. However, can you in all confidence say that you would prefer the new one over a 40mm thinner lug case? I doubt it. My point is that literally no one asked for a bigger submariner. However, they still did it. The new design is a pure marketing trick which is only implemented to protect their sales in the future.
A no Date sub with green bezel would be a dream

Hello great video as always. Did Rolex give you any idea as to availability? Most of us are tired of seeing watches that we can never get.
They have been massively delivering the novelties to the retail... so if the ADs don’t play silly games you should find the actual watches...

Alexander, I regard you as one of the best horology specialists. It is a pity those watches will be near imposible to get, aside from the hefty prices. Are those demo watches without movement?
Yes! No movements in the demo-watches.... But a weight instead and therefore the feeling is exactly the one you would have wearing the Submariner with the 3230 or 3235 ... Rolex has massively being delivering all the novelties to the retailers... If they don't play silly games the watches should be available...
Is there any color ( dial and bezel) differences between 2018/2019 rolex bluesy with the new bluesy? Also the color of the old 2018 ish and new relsease 202pblack submariner? .. seems tougher n solid than omega no time to die

Great video. One big change I think most are overlooking is the dial on the previous two-tone version had a gilt dial and the new version has dial script in white!

A substantial improvement over the supercase Sub IMHO, I welcome the slimmer lugs and slightly larger size.
However, the stainless steel models all have black dials which I'm a bit disappointed with. I was hoping for a navy blue dial and bezel SS or deep green non-sunburst dial and bezel. I don't want any of the black dials. The only one I find beautiful is the Rolesor with blue dial, but it's too flashy for me.
So I will not be adding a Sub to my current collection next to my SD43 and YM40. Instead I might try an OP41 at some point, but no rush.
The video of the new Oyster Perpetual 41 and 36 mm watches will hog online this late afternoon...

As always a fantastic review. I think making the sub 41mm still keeps it in that sweet spot range of size & not too oversized. I would also just like to know whether Rolex are going to make these & the more popular watches readily available from AD's?
