  • Pfou Tchotar is a 77 year old Sherpa who lives in Khumbu, in the North-East of Nepal. He lives with his family, and in particular with his grandson Soname who is seriously ill. To try to save him, according to Himalayan legends, Pfou Tchotar must go and get his white Yak in the high pastures and then go down to the valley. There, on the occasion of the religious festival of Mani Rimdu, he will offer his white Yak, the sacred animal of the Sherpas, to the gods of the mountain. Will he manage to accomplish his mission and save his grandson?

Thank you for such a wonderful video!! I saw my parents, grandparents and myself and it took me back to my roots. Thank you for making this video starring my grandpa with whom I didn’t get the opportunity to spend my most childhood with. This video means a-lot…

Few mistakes in this documentary: 1) Om Mani Pedme Huun is mantra for the God Avalokiteshvara (Chenresig) Buddha of Compassion. Om Ah Huun Benza guru pedma Siddhi Huun is for Guru Rinpoche (The Lotus Born). 2) Bon religion doesn’t sacrifice human but used to do animal sacrifice. 3) The white is not sacrificed but freed (TseThar- Tse= life, Thar =Freed). Because of the prayer flags tried on KarSung (White yak) nobody will hunt or kill him. He’s set to live freely🙏🏽

This is practically Tibet but in Nepal. I was in a village in Kham, Tibet, for a couple of months, which is 2000Km east, and the culture is exactly the same. The entire vast Tibetan plateau is Himalayan or Tibetan Buddhist culture which is quite remarkable for a sparsely populated with practically same culture.
It’s sad as the youngsters start speaking the dominant Nepalese and Chinese and lose their native Tibetan language and their rich culture .

to release is the biggest sacrifice. release the human from his own bondage to the animal. to release the animal from slavery. to release one's own fears of letting your servent go. to release one own self from dependence on others.
releasing your support is the biggest sacrifice.
    I am impressed.
No doubt their lords are primordial Hindu/Sanatani Devta:
    three-eyed Shankar
    Mahakaal

The practice of freeing an animal is a religious custom in Buddhism and is known as "tsethar". Tse means life and thar mean to free. It is practiced by many Buddhist believers. Usually an animal which is about to get slaughtered is saved( through buying) and set free or simply if an animal is too old and instead of sending it to a slaughter house it is set free. Fish, old cows or bull, yak, etc usually benifit from this.

When narrator say , Yak sacrifice to please the god to cure the sick child it is confusing until the end of the film .
It is against the Buddhist principle to sacrifice any living things . I was relived when White Yak was Free his life . How about using WORD “ ACQUIT ( Tibetan word. TSETHAR ) than SACRIFICE.
Tibetan Buddhist originated from Nalanda , brought to Tibet by the great master of Nalanda Shantarashita and Padmasambhava from India in 8 century invited by king Tri Song Du Tsen of Tibet .
Buddhist empathize to transform negative emotions into positive by understanding the nature of phenomena with wisdom combines altruism .
Pray to local protector spirit is fine, but main teaching of Buddha is to be kind and not to harm any living beings . Practice of love and compassion with reason and logic .

He needs to be in a diaper, with Maybe a light blanket, if it's really cold, and even possibly a luke warm bath, oh and some Tylenol. I know they probably don't have I there but her trying to sweat out that fever could kill him
