Ok I have been a HARDCORE Metallica fan since 1993, and I have seen almost every piece of video that exists multiple times, and have been to their shows. Considering that this is in The Netherlands, I truly believe that Metallica were on shrooms this day. I have NEVER seen them act this way, even during similar bar/house shows, and I also have lots of experience with mushrooms. The way they are smiling, the way they are playing major chords instead of minor notes in some parts of these songs. All of it adds up to me whole heartedly believeing that they are on at least a small dose of shrooms. Pay attention to this video very closely. They just have a different kind of smile than I have ever seen on their faces and I know it very well.
I definitely noticed that with Kirk at around 2:50 in lol. I recognize the glassy eyed smile, he's got that unfocused thousand-yard shroom stare. In several shots where he's in front of the camera its like he's looking at absolutely nothing in the distance and zoning out, probably tripping balls and seeing the room breathe. Enter Sandman sounded a little off at the beginning too. I don't know about everybody else but Kirk was totally on something haha
The way he was speaking, and the weird way he just started putting his arms on and shaking that guy at the end of Sandman after looking around all crazily. He was definitely one something. Kirk smiles often, but you could definitely tell he was on a different planet
They haven't played that song worth a shit since '93...I absolutely hated how they played it through that '96-'00 period in particular..slow, sludgy, James fucking off on the vocal. Horrendous!
They usualy play this song way too fast anyway. I feel this is the right speed. If you play Sad But True too fast it sounds almost like a happy rhythm .
***** Yes, I saw this doc in VHS in 92 I believe and since this day I always felt Sad But True was most of the time played too fast. Not always, but very often. They aknowledge this fact themselves in the doc but they rarely put it in practice.
