The problem I come up against as a stringer is coaches telling parents of 9 yr old to move to full bed of Poly

I think that for kids, or anyone with arm issues, the Head Velocity MLT is a good alternative to a poly.

Transitioning to poly strings at such a young age using snapback for extra spin is just senseless. If you have proper technique, you can generate plenty of topspin with any string. All you are doing is sacrificing a ton of power and depth of shot to access a little more spin; especially at 50+ lbs of tension.

A hybrid of multifilament in the mains, and poly crosses are the best. Best playability

Ultra light racquets in 255 to 265 g can be used first as adult racquets this is very close to 250 g 26 inch junior racquets. Next level is light racquets 285 g. Also try triax multi first to see if it helps. Here triax is partly poly. Hereafter you can get to hybrid with normal multi cross and next with triax cross.

i would even argue harry shoulndt play with poly either. at his level he doesnt gain anything but hes too proud to see. the cheapest synth will do. you also dont need the expensive poly like solinco or lux, its just poliester get the cheapest u cant tell the diff i guarantee u. the only people that need poly are 5.5 or above and college players. u think harry needs poly when everytime he hits a backhand he does a robot dance 🤖🤖🤖

Because kids develop physically at different rates - the "age" is not the deciding factor in my experience. The real factor is the swing weight of the frame they are using. Poly strings were never designed to be used in light swing wgt frames. Any child using a racket with a swing wgt below 295 - 300 should be using a good multifilament string. Once they have moved up to a racket in the 310 - 315 swing wgt range, you can consider a poly hybrid (mains) with a control multi in the crosses (like NXT Control or Rip Control). It's not worth moving to full poly setups until you are comfortable with a frame with a 320+ swing weight as now the mass of the frame will help generate power the full bed of poly strings remove. It's a balancing act really. Most of the arm and wrist issues I see in teens and beginner adults come from using poly setups in paper light oversized frames, and poly strings were simply not designed to be used in this way. If your child is a bit wild from the baseline in competition, stick with the control orientated multifilaments strung at the upper end of the tension range. Also recognize that since polys lose tension (and playability) faster than multi's, coaches who also string rackets for you convince you to use polys so they can make more money restringing your kids racket more often than they would based on a good multifilament string use. Just saying .........

As coaches would you tell me why so many recommend very stiff racquets like the pure aero and pure drive to juniors?
