    For the price, you can't beat the Onn streaming box especially if you're a little techy with finding and configuring applications.

      Or that.... My point is, people who buy a $15 Streaming device probably won't be thrilled with having to buy ANYTHING else to get it to work. 🤷‍♂️

      @@CordCuttersLI The stick is a loss leader, they make their money on selling you a power strip with surge protection. Come to think of it you should've a power strip to begin with. Also Netflix says you need 20Mbs to stream in 4K, the HD stick should have no problem. Your initial delay was just a hiccup.

    • @WoodgemanX
      @WoodgemanX 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The stick is loss leader for Walmart, they make their money selling you a power strip, preferably with surge protection. Better yet, he should have had a power strip with surge protection built-in to begin with. Also 100Mbs is plenty fast, according to Netflix you need 15Mbs to stream 4K and 5Mbs for HD. Also the the delay he experienced was probably a hiccup because the system was overwhelmed by those 100 million bits of data.

    • @WoodgemanX
      @WoodgemanX 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Does the 4K box come with a longer cord? Use the five bucks you save buying the stick and either get a longer HDMI cable or a power strip with surge protection.

    Agree with the upgrade to the box. I have found that with both the third party apps are more of a pain to load than the fire stick but better than the TiVo device. I still put the fire stick 4k max as the leader in streaming.
    Please keep those updates coming 👍

      I haven't tried the Onn devices yet, but since I've been having a great reunion of sorts with my Tivo Stick for the last few weeks- I can attest that the device still performs with great speed 2 years on. Especially when it comes to adding 3rd party apps, which I've been doing recently.

    • @jettzigirl1470
      @jettzigirl1470 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah but it wont work pretty soon. Amazon is ditching android and soon they will update current versions of devices rendering them almost useless. Fire products used to be good before amazon decided to tell us what we can do to things we bought and paid for. Those days are coming to an end and the cube is a total waste of money in the first place

    • @CordCuttersLI
      @CordCuttersLI  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hmm, I wouldn't be so sure about Jimmy's Cube being updated to Vega. As of now, all that is speculative. Nothing official announced and a complete OS change has never been attempted on devices like these. Regardless, his cube will work through 2027 as is.

    • @jettzigirl1470
      @jettzigirl1470 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I didnt mean cube would change os i meant newer models would have new os. I have had so many problems with fire devices lately its just really becoming more and more obvious they are silently retiring devices or just rendering them close to useless. Fine one day then next day two devices have same issues, one of which is fairly new and clean.

    the only reason to use the included HDMI cable is if you need to get the stick away from the TV in the case of wifi interference. otherwise, I'm guessing it will plug directly into the HDMI port on the TV? I'm guessing you can't power the device off of a 5V USB port either, which kind of stinks. I bought two of the original Onn Streaming boxes, and both of the remotes died pretty quickly. Will be interesting to see how these hold up.

    • @CordCuttersLI
      @CordCuttersLI  ปีที่แล้ว

      You really don't want to plug this stick directly into the hdmi port on your TV. It can heat up pretty quickly and fail. But yes, you can power it with 5v microUSB

    There's a strong rumor that Amazon will be switching over the Firesticks to a Linux based operating system in early 2024. This is gonna wreck a lot of people who use the Downloader app. I'm thinking about buying a Nvidia Shield mainly because you can turn off the auto update feature. Something you can do on the Firesticks.

The rest of the remote features all work but no sound. Am reading online that other people are having this problem as well ! I called walmart and the clerk suggested buying a high quality hdmi cord with a copper tip ! Another person online commented that he changed his hdmi cord and it fixed the problem for him ! Maybe an extension cord would be cheaper than an HDMI cable

    • @CordCuttersLI
      @CordCuttersLI  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      May be, but if rather they just provided a super short HDMI extension cable like the firesticks and provide a 6 foot power adapter/cable instead. We shouldn't have to buy something to make the thing work, in my opinion.

    Do you still have to have to have Netflix and Disney? Why do you need a stick for those? The apps are already on the TV. I don't get it.

    • @CordCuttersLI
      @CordCuttersLI  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well, it's a matter of having all your apps, both official and non official, on one device, rather than watching some on the TV and have to switch to the other device to get to apps not available on the TV.
      If you're not interested in unofficial 3rd party app, then a smart TV might be all you need. 😉

    The included HDMI extension cable is there in case your TV is too close to the wall to plug in the stick directly into the HDMI slot. If you do not understand that simple design decision, how am I supposed to take your review seriously?

    • @CordCuttersLI
      @CordCuttersLI  ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope. both versions (reportedly) support the exact same Wi-Fi versions: 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac MIMO. That being said, I would not put it past Amazon to use a cheaper Wi-Fi chip on the stick vs. the 4K box. They do not list the specifics on that.
