    • HOW TO - MAKE ROPE BOW...
    Supplies from Amazon:
    1/4" cotton clothesline 100 ft hank
    amzn.to/2TlZkpc
    If you find a #8 rope. That is equivalent to 1/4".
    Fiskars Self Healing Rotary Mat:
    amzn.to/2NQwcCQ
    Rotary Cutter:
    amzn.to/2RYru9o
    Omnigrid ruler:
    amzn.to/2R1yDo7
    Supply list:
    - 1/4" (.6cm) cotton clothesline rope. I used about 50' for the basket in this video.
    - metal clips that will fit over 1/4" (.6cm) rope
    - fabric scissors or clipping scissors
    - lots of sewing thread that will match the color of your fabric
    - lots of bobbins with thread that will match the color of your fabric
    - 1 metre of quilting cotton fabric in your choice of color
    - sewing machine
    - cutting mat
    - rotary cutter
    -omnigrid ruler
    - sewing pins
    - needle and thread for sewing the part of the rope to the basket
    - crochet hook or stiletto to help push cord together while sewing
    Optional: I used a wooden cut butterfly that I found at the dollar store.

    You have a wonderful way of teaching your talents. I’ve now working on my fourth 1000’ of cord making trivets and baskets. I believe it was one of your tutorials that “hooked” me. I have several feet of rope wrapped and was going to start another basket today but , guess what! I’m going to try a square basket thanks to you. 😊

      Lol. Old habits die hard. My sewing teacher back in high school must have had an accent and now I can’t break my bad habit. I shall write it on a blackboard 1000 times. Presser, presser, presser. Eventually it will stick. Haha.

    Nice project, I LOVE IT!!!!!!!! I myself, and after watching your video several times, decided to try this project, but tried to use bias fabric to continuously wrapping around the 1/4 inch paracord, or use just a simple 3/4 inch wide ribbon cut at an angle, wrap the ribbon or bias around the paracord and stitch it with a 4-5mm straight stitch with same color thread, or with a contrasting thread, and for as long as I need. And to do the square shape, I am joining the paracord in a parallel fashion on the dimension I want, and then do a final round around the four borders of the construction. In that fashion I can do either squares or rectangles. I have been able to do place mats, square coasters, shopping and carrying bags for my two daughters in the colors they like or want. And I add their names or initials using a contrasting paracord sewn to one side, or using my embroidery machine to do patches that I later sew to the project. Thanks for your very educative, inventive and well explained video, the Lord bless you. And Happy New Year 2024!!!!!

    Yes, I am now thinking of the foot as the pressure foot, haha.
    When I hold the line with the foot, I only put the foot down, not the needle.
    I just made a basket with one inch wide bias cut fabric. There was practically no fraying.
    I put a little glue stick on each end of the strip, no clips, unless I need to mark a place.
    I cut the point of the bias strip off at the beginning to start flat, but not at the end of the strip.
    Thank you for your very comprehensive videos!

      @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s great Katherine! Thanks for all your info on cutting fabric strips on the bias. Sounds like a great way to go.
      You made me think of just using fabric bias tape. Would only be in solid colours though. Already cut to size and no raw edges. Good for little bits of color here and there perhaps.

      The square rope basket is a little trickier to make than the round rope bowls. If this is your first attempt at rope bowls than I would suggest starting with a basic round rope bowl. Not sure if you have seen my rope bowl playlist so I’m giving you the link so you can try some other tutorials to get you started. Thks for watching my rope bowl videos! Glad you are enjoying them. If you want straight sides on your square basket then when you are finished sewing the base than bring your basket all the way up till it hits the side of your sewing machine and start sewing your sides. Continue sewing in that manner until you have the height that you want.

      Whatever works for you for sure. If it’s all the same fabric and your not worried about placement of colour than you can sew all the strips ahead of time. I did that on one of my bowls that I posted on my channel and also folded over the side edges so there was no raw edges. Made for a real sturdy bowl too.

    Great instruction! Thanks for the detailed info. I wonder, might it be a less bulky, smoother join, if you added the new fabric strip underneath the ending one? Also, perhaps a dab of fabric glue between the two.

    • @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts
      @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lots of ways to approach the joins. I usually don’t use glue as I don’t want to muck up my needles and machine with glue especially if I am sewing the next round right away and then my needle goes into it.

    Your video tutorials are by far the best I have seen. Thank you! I noticed in some, you do not cut on the bias - do you feel it makes much difference?

    • @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts
      @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts  5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hi Whitney. LOL you catch on quick. I did not show how to cut the fabric on the bias in most of my rope bowl videos so I just published a video on making an oval rope bowl with bias cut fabric strips. And yes, it does make a difference. There is a lot less fraying on the edges of the strips and it has of course more stretch which makes it easier to wrap your rope. Should have showed that in all my videos. But Woops! We all learn as we go and learn from each other which is the beauty of social media sites like TH-cam.

    This really a beautiful basket. I have one question, would a bias strip make it easier to wrap the cord. It might fray less. A rotary blade with the pinking edge might work too. I'll have to give it a try. Thank you so much for the beautiful Tutorial. You are an excellent teacher.

      Yes, in future rope bowl videos I have shown how to cut bias strips of fabric for less fraying.

    Awesome video! Thank you! Is this how you would make a rectanglular basket ..creating a small rectangle in the beginning instead of a square?

    The only non-plastic rope I could find was this really rough sisal stuff, but, it's actually fine because the fabric covers it and the roughness probably adds some stability fwiw. Sewing machine might have trouble with the thicker ones, they seem more dense than this soft cotton cord.

    • @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts
      @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sisal will be hard to sew through. Might break a few needles.
      The cotton rope is better for sewing. Hope you can find some online perhaps.

    Beautiful! Great job with directions . If I wanted to do a rectangle, same concept in the beginning but forming a rectangle with the loopys??? I've never done squares or rectangles. Thank you for your great video.

    • @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts
      @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks. For a rectangle just make your first length about 6” long and start your base from there.

    • @heidiwilson9454
      @heidiwilson9454 ปีที่แล้ว

      So about 3 loonpies about 6 inches long?

      Loopies

    • @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts
      @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not sure what you are referring to as loopies but your first cord length is about 6” long and then you bring your cord down and around the first 6” and keep sewing around that first 6” length until you have the size of base that you want.

      I have a video on dying rope and cord and then I made several spring coloured bowls and items with the dyed cord. Have a look in my rope bowl playlist and you will see the videos there.
