I knew it was coming but when Sam Wilson was revealed in his Captain America suit in the finalé of Falcon and the Winter Soldier, my jaw dropped and I couldn't stop smiling. Seeing Sam as Captain America in the MCU in that last episode really showed how much he deserved that role. I give huge kudos to Marvel Studios for doing it in a way that doesn't feel at all like tokenism. They provided a good reason for Steve not being CA, passing on the mantel, and even showing Sam having issues with it. They humanized it and are making thr changeover very digestable and it makes sense.
I love Sam as Captain America, but they didn’t do it very well. They made it too much about him being black and not about being captain America in my opinion. I mean I’ve never heard anyone call him black falcon before

@YouWouldn'tGetIt that kinda annoyed me tbh. I get it, he's Captain America officially. That's sick but can the writers not give nothing to Bucky at least. Bucky felt useless and nerfed the whole time and then John finally wants to do something that felt like an organic Captain America thing to do, only for it to be stolen by Sam. I don't know it could have been done better imo
@YouWouldn'tGetIt yeah. I'd rather Bucky be left out of this tbh. I'd rather he be white wolf and be in the next bp film then that
That scene in the end, when the credits are about to roll, and the name of series changes to "Captain America and the Winter soldier"... just a small detail, but so damn good. Mackie and Stan were great on this show.

I think a cool way to push characters is just have them "replace" the character but not take their mantle. Like an event happens and a lot of characters either die, vanish, or lose their powers and the remaining heroes after defeating them realize that they are going to have to step up. The world doesn't need a different person to become Thor or Hulk or Iron Man or even Captain America. Have different characters take up that role. Introduce new characters capable of doing so. Yeah things will go back to the status quo sooner than later but having these characters who have been background characters actually have their stories expanded upon would make them far more popular for years to come.

Such a good point, the story matters with how they get to things. A lot of comic archs aren't very well written stories. The MCU did this in a way that felt natural and interesting. I read the comics, they just weren't that good. A lot of people forget the captain America comics have huge swings in story quality and aren't known for consistency in story quality. Especially in the last 10 or 15 years comics quality in both art and story has gone way waaaaay down. The MCU does a great job telling a long term story and giving set up without sacrificing the story they are telling in that moment. Captain America comics for the entire duration of the character have been hit or miss. Secret empire was quite possibly the worst comic series ever in my opinion.
Sam is great and an obvious exception, but Miles is the definition of tokenism as evidenced by the new Spiderverse movie he was never even supposed to exist.
I'm sure most of the people upset about Sam Wilson Captain America as well as Jane Foster Thor and other characters being changed were hate motivated. Because if they were true comic book fans they would have knew that Marvel comics routinely have superheroes get replaced all the time. Sometimes by people who are different gender or race and sometimes by someone of same gender and race. I think that it is cool to see 500 versions of the same characters. I hope they do more of that in MCU in the main universe or in multiverse or in the what if series.
I think you have several motivations. Some people just don't like change and would complain whoever it was. Some are upset if a white guy is replaced by anything different screaming about SJWs and forced agendas. However I think some take each one individually, I liked Sam as Cap, X23 as Wolverine and Jane as Thor as they were all strongly associated with the character they were replacing and were characters in their own right. Someone like Riri though comes from left field and has nothing to do with Tony while the comic is basically telling you how wonderful she is. Just wasn't well done but if you criticised someone would start claiming you were racist and sexist. Idiots on both sides.
I was really hoping and still am hoping to see that speech from Cap at the end go viral. I wanna know how the whole world would react to that speech, like they do in the show. For better or worse.
With Sam being Captain America in the comics to me it made perfect sense being Captain America side and ally of Steve Rogers and with Bucky already dawning the shield in the past it made sense with Sam. Was it divisive? Oh yes for sure but it was more akin because they did at the cost of Steve Rogers turning him into a hydra agent which was lazy and stupid from marvel comics, if they let them be an old nan without the serum the change would’ve probably been more accepting. I personally like Spencer’s run of Captain America as Hydra as a what if concept like “What if Captain America was evil and systematically take over the world. I see why people didn’t like it Spencer’s run but people that like the run (Rob) need to stop vilifying fans just because of different opinions and putting them in boxes otherwise you end up becoming the thing you hate. I still think Brubaker run is the all greatest Captain America run.
I will have to admit, going into the show I was having a hard time picturing Sam as Cap in a full length movie. After that finally I'm truly a believer. I need a Sam Wilson movie. He feels perfect for the role. It doesn't feel like a token black man that's just put in the role to be more "inclusive". It feels natural. It was built up so perfectly over the years.
I'm black. For me personally, whenever comic creators go the "We are going to give a black guy the mantle of [insert superhero] so you can see yourself in that character." I never once looked at a Black Captain America or a Black Batman or turning a traditional white superhero into a black guy and said "Wow, I see myself in that character." I see myself as a person first, yes, my skin color is black. Some people do. It's important to them. To each there own I suppose. I am not going to look at Sam at Captain America and say that's my boy. I will concede that after watching Falcon and Winter Solider finale, Anthony Mackey sold me on being Captain America. Not because of the color of his skin. The actor and the story sold me that he is Captain America. That is the main thing us comic readers want. A good story. I can't vouch for Sam as Captain America in the comics was a good story or not. Come on, we know that some writers these days take the lazy route of "lets switch the race, gender, etc, here is your different version of a traditional white superhero;" that is where the tokenism comes from. Where we as comic readers feel the lets give someone else a mantel is fundamentally dishonest. All New All Different Marvel was the poster child of that. I will admit I would prefer a black character be built up as there own unique character, if you can tell a compelling story that can win me over. I can be won over. The Next Batman, I like that story. Do I still prefer Bruce Wayne, sure, The Next Batman told an adequate story. No pitchforks over here.

Amazing explanation! Btw i think its time for you to change that intro (the scene with only youtube logo). I kinda dont get it whats the point of that display 😅
Sam out of all the potential legacy cases, was the most legitimate successor imo. I think the ONLY problem is that his as Cap came during a time whenMarvel was replacing ALOT of their characters with minorities or women. Like Jane Thor, X-23 as wolverine, and a few others. Sam Wilson as cap actually is brilliant but Marvel was pushing to much agenda based stories that Sam was lumped in with them even though, he as Cap is actually a fantastic idea
Hey rob, thought I’d might share a series idea that I find interesting. Can you do a series however long you want, to make a shared movie universe between marvel and dc. Have a good day, and keep up the good content.

Not gonna lie, this was a difficult comic series. He was unpopular back when this storyline happened (in universe and comicbook community). Hopefully you've seen the finale, but the ending to Falcon...NO...Spolier alert Captain America and the Winter Sodlier was amazing. It was done so well and Isaiah Bradley got his recognition in the Disney+ series. Almost cried at this scene.
U.S. Agent, Bucky, and Sam's suit were my favorite parts of this show! I like how the MCU put their spin on things. Power Broker is evil but it's Sharon Carter. And U.S. Agent exists and is a good hero rather than a competitor to a new Captain America. (U.S. Agent is so cool to me 😃)
I think one thing to note with Falcon is that by design he is a team character and not a solo character (just my opinion). He is like the flyer of the team and does what a flyer does but is not design to be the one on one guy on the front line. These type of support characters are great but usually will not hold a comic well as a solo character. Now of the story is about his personal life, maybe it can be great but as a superhero, he is a team guy and made to be in a team book. Xmen has a lot of characters like this.
hey guys at 3:36 who is cap fighting? in the next panel its the guy standing to the right of falcon, with the golden spikes on his shoulders, arms and head. who is this guy??? never seen em before

lol
@@p00lboy He was when he was steve Roger's already.
Sam Wilson looked sick as Captain America, and the combination of Captain America + Falcon abilities were awesome.
I feel like in terms of the comic books, I think it’s would be cool to see some Sam Wilson and Daredevil stories.
Yes! Please cover the captain america stories that no one would read!
It would definitely be amazing for Captain America stories to be covered
You should cover anything Coates writes. His work is fantastic.
Liked it before I heard the video. Timely drop Rob!
I love the Black Falcon references-see the Key and Peele Superhero Squad skit. Very meta.
I would love it if you covered those captain america stories you mentioned!
Such a badass episode. Thanks for the breakdown.
YES! please cover the Tallahassee Cap run Thank You!!
Marvel confirmed they are making captain America 4
Yeah same
Yeah Rob, do the damn Ta-Nehisi Coates Captain America !
If there was any writer who should have been given Sam as Cap, it's Christopher Priest. That man could have done so much with him.
Perfect time to drop this haha.
Sooo
You still think you can beat me? I’m always prepared 😎
🦇👨
Deadass 😆
I mean..that’s the point lol
Morning Rob! Great way to start my day. Thank you buddy great video!
Comics explained bout to have 2million subs!!! I remember when you had less then 100k lol marvel explained before this. Congrats 🎉🎉🎉
ROB your timing is impeccable ...
"I can explain that if you guys want"... This guy could explain his favourite cheese for an hour and I'd probably watch.
Do you have an Armor Wars video?! This Powerbroker talk is bringing up a lot of stuff about Rhode and Hammer Tech and I’d love to see you make a video about it!
Also thanks man, love your channel! Keep up the good work!!!
I'm rereading this series as we speak. I bought every issue as they came out a few years ago! It is so good!!
I want those Ta-Nehisi Cotes stories!
For the love of all things funny, please Rob grace us with another RunDown episode
Anthony Mackie made Falcon interesting and likeable. If he was more like that in comics and had his own iconic villains it would work.
Hey rob, thought I’d might share a series idea that I find interesting. Can you do a series however long you want, to make a shared movie universe between marvel and dc. Combining characters and stories all in one, not like the amalgamation thing. However you want to do it, like having Deadpool go team up with with Batman for example. Have a good day, and keep up the good content.
Oh wow! really!! you’re gonna comment this dumb idea in every video.
@@blowc1612 This is only my 2nd time commenting this, I’m sorry I’m just giving ideas to a TH-camr whether he wants to do it or not idk. It’s interesting I’m still in your mind and you remember me, you still haven’t told me why it is dumb, and I’m still gonna comment it every video whether you like it or not. You dumbass
@@7brucewayne7 no, it’s such an idiotic idea, it’s glaring and easy to spot. Plus you’re so pathetic in life that you use a comic book name for your handle trying to act like your the character because you have no originality in real life. Simple, the whole world doesn’t revolve around you.
@@blowc1612 Wow, you are really a low life human. That fact that your mad about my pfp and name shows how immature you are. Idk what a bLoWc16 and how that is so original but do you man. Also how did this become about the world revolving around me tf. I simply have a idea of which you still haven’t told me why it’s a “idiotic idea” to see what Rob thinks of it. Stop acting like a tough guy online and keep your thoughts to yourself
The intro isn’t complete until “And Yeaaaaaaah”
Here's my fan theory after watching the last episode Sharon Carter is actually a Skrull in disguise
Cover captain america! there’s not enough of him on this channel
Not gonna lie, this was a difficult comic series. He was unpopular back when this storyline happened (in universe and comicbook community). Hopefully you've seen the finale, but the ending to Falcon...NO...Spolier alert
Captain America and the Winter Sodlier was amazing. It was done so well and Isaiah Bradley got his recognition in the Disney+ series. Almost cried at this scene.
I love these videos.
rob can you just talk about the series, doesnt matter how and why, but i think this the best thing coming out of the mcu.
Cover more writing by Coates! Great video!
Beyond omega level: The Dweller in Darkness
U.S. Agent, Bucky, and Sam's suit were my favorite parts of this show!
I like how the MCU put their spin on things. Power Broker is evil but it's Sharon Carter. And U.S. Agent exists and is a good hero rather than a competitor to a new Captain America. (U.S. Agent is so cool to me 😃)
Please explain the Ta-Nehesi Coates run on Captain America.
5:20 did he just use sidekick aww man...
Rob! You should cover Tanahasi's Captain America, id love to hear it!
Xmen has a lot of characters like this.
hey guys at 3:36 who is cap fighting? in the next panel its the guy standing to the right of falcon, with the golden spikes on his shoulders, arms and head. who is this guy??? never seen em before
I liked that they planted the seeds to the "Not my Captain America" part of the comics as soon as he put on the suit. I hope they go deep on a potential season 2
You didn’t hear? There isn’t going o be a season 2, because there making a 4th Captain America Movie
@@Gorypaladin346 I’m sure he knows but he means there are going to be people to dislike him in the suit and that might play a part in the movie and season 2 going forward
The only issue with the status quo basically not changing is that it becomes stale, and that there's no overall growth. There's no point to a passing of a torch if that torch is just gonna be returned. It makes the sacrifice pointless.
Yo that beat that the end 👌🏾
The costume was spot oooon...
Would you ever make a video about your prediction for phase 5 or maybe what comics one should read to fully understand secret wars?
I wanted more episodes from the series, 6 is too little
season 2 is confirmed
Everyone: new Captain America
Me: hell yeah Captain Falcon looks bad asssssss
Lol all I learned from this is that red skull perpetually has a cosmic cube taped to his palm
Too funny. The dude is seriously the greatest thief of all time apparently.
I’d like for u to cover that cap story. I wanna hear more about Coates’ writing
5 mins in! Let's go great video thank you Rob
At 11 mins: I remember Rage in the 90s from his card. Marvel series 2 cards. The first set with stats.
could we get a video on joaquin torres falcon? he's very likely gonna show up in the mcu at some point and it would be cool to see a video on his history!
Can you do a hydra captain America’s one
Yes please do Ta’Nehisi’s Captain America run
