This is episode 4 of Girl Abroad. I'm letting out the hardest thing you'll most likely have to face when you move to Japan. It's truly the worst! I also went on a date with someone I have been seeing for a little while and catch up with a friend I met back in college!
Sometimes, you have to make sacrifices if you want to live your dreams.
I hope you enjoy this episode and I would love your feedback!

I'm a Japanese college student studying in LA, grown up in Tokyo. To be honest with you, many people in Tokyo are feeling lonely like you even Japanese. So many came from countryside don't have friends in Tokyo and can't get used to fast-speed Tokyo lifestyle.
It is so hard to make friends outside of school and workplace even though you walk by thousands of different people everyday.
However, once you could get in multiple communities, your life there would not only dramatically change, but you would appreciate the diversity Tokyo offers unlike other international big cities do. You should make hobbies and get into community group. Japanese love foreigners. They want to make friends from outside of their world because they are so unique.
I googled "東京 サークル" and found this website. tunagate.com/search/tokyo/&is_new_arrival=false
I hope this would help you.
Good luck and enjoy life in Japan. 年末年始 is coming! SO excited!

these videos give me hope for my future. right now, everything is so stressful and I often wonder if the rest of my life will be worth the effort now. when I see you enjoying your life and doing the things that you want to, and the things that make you happy, it helps me believe that one day, I'll get to do those things too. thank you for being yourself and doing what you do. I really appreciate it.

Trust me I had been feeling that way for a while. I’m in my late 20s and still trying to find myself. Dating has been rough and I don’t have a legit job. I teach and do this stuff but I enjoy it and I love this country to death. Life is too short so I’m doing my best to give back to the community I’m targeting. I’d love to work for myself someday! That’s the dream and the goal. Consulting, mentoring, online courses, encouraging others to live abroad and grow their own brand if they want to. Set some goals and start now. You’ll have down days but don’t let that keep you from accomplishing things. Find positive ppl to spend time with and enjoy the small moments.

I've been watching your last few videos. I totally get the difficulty with feeling lonely in Japan. It takes so much longer to get personal with people here. I'm also a Vlogger and I feel really lucky to have Nami doing videos with me. It's so much time spent alone at a computer editing and alone shooting by yourself, so it really helps if you can find someone to spend time with. I'm rooting for you!

She is beautiful either way and her confidence is even more so ,
however just a note I feel like sharing make up isn't a stigma or a negative thing if used correctly, it's meant to just help us look and feel more fresh at least that's what I learned growing up , it's also a sort of art form, some girls like to play with make up depends on the mode some love it so much they use it to make a living, as long as it's all with balance and knowledge should be fine & in the end of the day it's a personal choice.

I agree. Thats the hardest part about Japan. I'm used to saying goodbyes with my way of life, but it doesn't get any easier. I have more skills to cope with it, but it still feels heavy. This is the first year I haven't spent thanksgiving with my parents in forever and I miss getting together and watching movies and listening to music while we cooked dinner. Its also hard to meet with friends when you have such drastically different school schedules. One of my closest friends has the exact opposite schedule of me so we literally only see each other at the station as one of us is headed to school while the other is headed back home. However, I think that it has made me put more effort into making time for people, which helps me realize which people I can depend on or I want to spend time with rather than defaulting to convenience.

I think traveling by train is the best way to get around and I enjoy it a great deal when you add train travel to your videos. It was such a touching moment when you met up with your good friend whom you haven't seen in so long. You made excellent points about all the things that someone would have to sacrifice living so far away from friends and family and about how strong and determined one needs to be in order to stay focused on oneself and on their priorities. Those were some very nice views of the city -you always find the prettiest parks to go for walks and I appreciate that very much. This was a really sweet video👍❤

Keep your chin up, Kelly. I spent a year in Japan after graduating US high school in 2012. The separation hits the hardest, but I'm glad you have friends. I can tell you're doing your best, even if it doesn't seem like enough, but you're strong. Someday you'll find someone who appreciates that and you will be happy that you endured the hard times to be with them. Remember to smile, step out of your comfort zone from time to time, and keep living. I'm proud of you for overcoming the anxiety of public vlogging because it adds so much more you-factor to the video, even if it's just walking. Thank you for everything you do for us viewers and for staying in touch. I hope the hard times get easier for you. Remember, keep your chin up.

Girl, ditch that guy since (harsh words coming in) if he doesn’t put effort in meeting you, he doesn’t care that much. I always put down my ‘rules’ when dating which helps filters the good from the bad (not a perfect technique though haha). I say that I want to have fun with you and only you and who knows what happens down the line but when you have doubts or issues, voice them to me because i find communication and honesty key elements. If I get a weird vibe from telling this to a guy i am dating then I stop dating him. It might sound harsh but I don’t want to waste my time , brain/heart juice and money on someone that does not feel the same like me and also vic versa. Too many people play games and are not honest with their intentions and i feel that if you are unsure, you voice it and act accordingly. It is tough but I want to walk down a path in life where I have someone next to me and go on adventures together, and not stir away from my own path just so I can get some mediocre love.

Wow, I absolutely love the honesty in your videos. I just subscribed. I follow a few youtubers in Japan (who I also enjoy), but after watching a few of your videos, I really enjoy the raw type of day-to-day activity that you're trying to portray in your videos. I hope to visit (and possibly live in) Japan one day so it's really nice to see all of these small things. I totally get what you're saying about getting used to saying goodbye. I am American but I currently live in Ukraine and have lived here for over two years now. A lot of people just leave over time, either other foreigners or a lot of people in Ukraine immigrate to other countries and it gets really hard on me sometimes. Especially because I live in a small village and it's inevitable to end up feeling lonely sometimes. I also understand the feeling of missing important events from your loved ones back home. I've had so many friends have children and get married while I was away and it's so strange to me to be on the other side of the world sometimes while life goes on in the US. I'm going back to America for a month next month and it'll be my first time being back in the US and I'm honestly terrified of all the changes.

I'll be visiting Japan with my girlfriend sometime next year (been planning a trip for a very long time). We may start considering to move there after the visit. I feel like saying goodbye is definitely something you have to get used to throughout your life. Even if you move to a different city, you will most likely lose most of your friends and a huge portion of family contact. But it always gets better. Stay strong! I don't know how long you've lived in Japan, but you've done something many people are afraid to do - moving out of their comfort zone. And I have so much respect for you for doing that.

I just recently found your channel and I must say I really love your content because I can really relate to so much you are talking about. now especially to the "always saying goodbye" part. I have been in Tokyo since 2013 and I have become really jaded in some ways because of this, unfortunately. I feel exhausted of the thought of making new friends just to have them leave again while I stay behind and then just start over. Lately I have been trying to get over it and making new connections, but it was really bringing me down hard there for a while, so it's oddly conforting seeing someone else having the same sort of feelings. I feel like a lot of Japanese-related content is just about how awesome and cool Japan/Tokyo is so it's refreshing to see just your life here.

I resonate with what you said. Everything about being over here is awesome and all, but being away from family and friends for years on end really wears on your soul. The goodbyes are the worst part when people come to visit because those bittersweet moments are what you're left with once their gone. Obviously you have the fun times you share to focus on, but remaining vigilant can be rough. Surronding yourself with friends out here is the best though, especially other expats who you can relate with when you need that hit of stateside natsukashi. Good luck to you lady, and also I'm all caught up on this series you've started!

Things about friends is the good one always will be there. One of my best friends we only meet once a year at most and only chat than but when we do meet it like no time has passed (only difference is our hair is getting greyer). So the thing about friends and not seeing them is that even happen when living close. They get married have kids etc and they naturally won’t have time to meet up as much. The coolest thing technology make it easier to FaceTime into family and friend events. It helps to send their gift ahead of time. It nice to have focus and free of distraction to do what you love. And you have a TH-cam to share all the experiences /adventure while you live in japan.

After getting sick of university teaching, I started my own business just one station outside of Tokyo.
I now check into the office about three hours a week to make sure everyone is doing their job. I'm the boss, and nobody tells me what to do. Well? They may tell, me, but I do what I want. I'm starting a second business.
Everything is a ten-minute bicycle ride from home. I ride the trains about three times a year.
    Life is good!
But don't think I haven't suffered. I *hate* working in Japanese organizations. At work, the Japanese have a very feudalistic mentality. But they make great employees. If I ever have to choose between hiring a Japanese or foreigner, I always hire the Japanese.
I now love Japan. I will be here until the day I die!
