  • In this video I demonstrate and discuss the Besson Sovereign BE943 bass trombone and its two Hagmann valves. Unfortunately this example is in poor condition and not really representative of this type of trombone.
There is a bit of noise in the background of this video which I hope you will forgive me for. I live in Wellington, and that means it's usually windy.

"past its best". Looks like something most people I knew would dream of owning. It just needs some love.

I have the large flare rose brass bell variant of this trombone. It's a lovely instrument to play and I've spent the last 9 years really enjoying it

The idea of the G valve is that it it used independently. It puts 5th 6th & 7th positions in aproximatly 2nd 3rd & 4th. Instead of taking 6th position from one end of the slide to the other, it places it at the middle of the slide. also it places all the trigger tunnings one step apart.G,F,Eflat. It gives you allternate positions that are very handy. Is it better? Is it worse? I like it. Densen Paul Pollard has a video about this tunning I believe. I do not think I have heard of anyone using a Gflat valve by it self. The G by it self is very usefull.

I am a retired US Army National Guard bass trombone player. Back in 1986-87, The old King Duo Gravis horn was retired and I was issued a brand new Yamaha double rotored horn. I played that horn until I retired. It was traditional - tight wrapped and with dependent rotors. It also had an alternate shorter tuning slide for the second rotor. It got a bit stuffy when both rotors were needed. I loved the horn, nontheless, and wish I could find one. Would you happen to know what bass trombone models Yamaha made back then?

Is there something about hagemann valves that require more maintenance?

Trent, could you please be or specific as to the tuning of this horn? With the large slide, is the instrument in Bb/F/Gb/D, or in Bb/F/g/ Eb? And with the little one? What's the tuning then?

I play euphonium, and I'm looking to get a bass trombone, my lesson teacher said besson trombones aren't made with the same quality as their euphoniums, but you seem to think highly of that one. Would you recommend a similar trombone with normal rotor valves

hello, Trent Hamilton, do you think you will ever review a modern F contrabass trombone, it is a very unique instrument that I am quite interested in and I have purchased one and am using in place of a normal bass considering it is pitched lower than a BB tenor/bass trombone which in my opinion plays more in tune such as a "true" bass pitched trombone, any thoughts/tips on that logic?
