Was surprised this one popped up on your channel!
I'm lucky to own a 2016 batch which is still fairly good compared to later ones.
The scent breakdown you are giving is pretty much bang on!
It is barely anything to do with oud but still woody and shows class to me.
I really have it in my top 5 or 10 of my collection and love it everytime!
From the house of Creed this is on the same level as Millésime Impérial and both my favourites.
After that Bois du Portugal and Himalaya.
Keep up the honest and good reviews my friend!

On the projection and beastly vs non-beastly Ouds...
Low-to-moderate projection can be a benefit, if paired with a good duration/longevity. For office scents you don't really want to fill up the room, but you do want your scent to last throughout the whole workday.

Loved your review and the mentions of safety concerns. Oud is such an amazing ingredient but so very expensive. I feel like many brands use less of it in fragrances because of that. I'm going to scan your videos for Zoologist reviews next to see your take on their usage of oud.
You also mentioned METAL! I released a metallic oud fragrance called Oudmint and if I ever meet you someday, I would love for you try it.

I have a bottle a few years old and I love it. I took a sniff in a Nordstroms from a tester and it had the essence of Royal Oud at the onset, then fell flat. Not sure what's up with that but that would make me question whether I would replace it, if I ran out. I love this one. It's the only Creed fragrance I've felt the pull to invest in so far.

Exactly! At 7:00: "What companies sell should be the finished product."
The idea to let it macerate to "let it sit" is ridiculous, makes me think, gee. wine, whiskey, and rum companies should stop selling their aged spirits, just sell them young for the same $$$$ tell customers that same thing: hey just let it macerate long enough, then it will shine and you'll see it's worth it. Roll eyes.

Have you ever experimented with Astaxanthin as an antioxidant? It is very effective as an antioxidant in the body and has no health hazards I know of. It is red so adds an interesting color. In very small doses it seems to make people around me want to party. 2 to 4 micrograms total applied for the party effect. If you go to 6 micrograms it seems to go away and then it starts to weigh down the fragrance. It is a pretty heavy molecule, almost 600. Could it be a substitute for BHT since some people seem wary?

It's definitely not for everyone though but it's absolutely worth sampling to find out.

Waiting for Scent Split to reup on Royal Oud.
I haven't tried an oud fragrance yet.
And I want to try the "real deal", not synthetic stuff. I have read that this contained real Indian Oud, & that style is easier for beginners.
If it truly contains real oud, would this be a decent "starter/introduction😊"?
I'd appreciate any input from you!
      Thank You!🙏🏾

    • @Schatje79
      @Schatje79 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@jasonbenford3427 (warning: incoming book...I'm so sorry! lol)
Happy to help any way I can, bud! Royal Oud is a bit tricky for someone wanting to get their feet wet with authentic oud because if I'm being honest, I don't smell anything that I can put my finger on and say "that's it, there's the oud!" I honestly can't definitely smell even an oud accord in the formulation.
What I mostly get at it's base is the cedar with some musk and a little sandalwood while the other notes add beautiful nuance to it throughout the life of the wearing.
All that being said, though...despite there being no synthetic or authentic oud...this fragrance is stunning (imo) and will always be among my absolute favorites.
My advice gives a couple options. Once you sample it and if you love it and decide to buy a bottle, I would strongly urge you to buy this discounted from the gray-market. It's what myself and many other collectors do to save money and explore more fragrances. It'll cost less than half of retail. If that interests you, let me know and I can introduce you to where and how to get a great deal (it's a fragrance facebook group)...if not, absolutely no problem. Some folks are just more comfortable buying retail and there's nothing wrong with that!
The other option, should you not like Royal Oud, is I can suggest alternative fragrances to get you started down the road of oud whether it has authentic oud or a well-done synthetic accord. Personally, I have a handful with real oud and the rest probably use a synthetic oud accord but damn are they good! lol
I apologize for the gigantic book I just wrote on this. I just want to make sure you have as much information as possible to make the best decision for you. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask. Cheers!

      Greatly Appreciated!✊🏾
      Solid input!
That's a shame that it's undetectable. (especially with that name 🤦🏾‍♂️)
I actually own "Oud for Glory" by Lattafa.
But, the fruity/saffron is dominant. And, not quite sure what kind of "oud" a clone house would use. 🤔/🤣 But, there is woodiness in the background. 🤷🏾‍♂️ But a bit too sweet. (I layer it Iso-E +Mandarin)
And, a coworker of mine wore Versace "Oud Noir".
lt smelled kind of powdery. Didn't seem like it had a lot of a base.
You've mentioned, that even though some are synthetic, they can still be pretty good.
That being said, I was going to originally order TF "Oud Wood". But, was turned off because it mentioned that the oud was not real. (@ those prices🙄)
Would this be a decent alternative? It's popular in Fragcom, but we know that could be a fickle beast.
Also, I've noticed that (rose/oud) combinations are almost standard.
      Do you enjoy that combo?
Would one of those be a bit too challenging?
      Thank You Once Again
      I understand if you can't get back!✌🏾

    • @Schatje79
      @Schatje79 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@jasonbenford3427 Yeah, it's unfortunate for anyone blind-buying it hoping it will be a good first step into oud but that being said, it's such a great scent. I look forward to your thoughts on it once you get your hands on a sample!
Regarding Tom Ford, Oud Wood falls in the same category as Royal Oud to some extent for me because as you mentioned, the price is so high and it doesn't smell like oud to me either. I can tell it's trying to and the result is it adds something to the scent that's good/interesting but does not come across as anything oud'y to my nose. Still, I'd try it out sometime and see if you like it.
I personally love middle-eastern fragrances so I own many but I don't own that many oud/rose fragrances mainly because I'm a bit picky about which rose is used and how it's blended. I basically dislike really sweet, jammy rose in my fragrances! lol There are a couple I'm quite fond of though. The first is called Woody Style from the house of Arabian Oud and coincidentally, I actually refer to this one as Royal Oud's Arabian cousin because of its construction and scent. It has a more authentic-smelling oud accord that is blended with cedar and musk like Royal Oud. Instead of the other notes though, they've added some amber and lotus. The result is a fresh, semi-spicy, woody oud fragrance with a touch of sweetness from the amber and florals. So, they definitely don't smell the same but I find I can use it for the same occasions and enjoy a similar vibe if that makes sense. As far as oud goes, it's one of the least challenging I can think of from my collection especially because it doesn't have any animalic funk to it. Another benefit is that it's got some versatility to it as far as oud'y fragrances go as well.
The other fragrance that came to mind is The One (Mysterious Night) by Dolce & Gabbana. It's probably the only designer oud/rose I really enjoy because it's a middle-eastern exclusive that can be found at most legit discount websites. It costs a little more than The One edp but damn does it smell good to me! If you enjoy a somewhat dark rose with a good oud accord along with saffron often found in Arabian fragrances, this is also very much worth a sniff. This one is created to be more of a traditional rose/oud so it'll be a bit more adventurous than Woody Style but just as good if you're into this sort of thing. You just have to enjoy rose (with everything else in it) or this is going to probably upset you for wasting money on it, hehehe.
The good news is, I can't find any sample-sites I trust that offer Woody Style. Not enough demand from the western-market customers I guess. The good news is decantx does offer The One Mysterious Night. They also have other brands available to sample that contain variations of the oud accord mixed with all kinds of notes. If you have a sweet-tooth, I really like Montale's Honey Aoud. Thick, sweet honey with cinnmon and a good dose of their style of oud. Can be a bit much for some but possibly worth sniffing. Another one I might suggest is Jubilation XXV Man by Amouage. This is more challenging but it's complex, classy, and sophisticated. Makes me feel like an Arabian CEO of some powerful company! :D
If you want to sample the real deal, another sample site I love is scentsplit. They offer samples from a house called Bortnikoff who use a high amount of authentic naturals. I have to warn you: these fragrances are absolutely challenging especially if you're early in your fragrance journey as they say. One of the best, authentic rose/ouds this house has to offer is called Triad. While I've sampled it and thought it interesting and relatively enjoyable, I just don't see myself buying a full-bottle. It does offer a genuine baseline for what the real thing smells like. The only thing is the perfumer of this house loves using real animal ingredients so there's that. Plus, those animalic notes are fuuuuunky....too much so for my preferences but again, it was educational at least. There are a lot of oud-centric choices like Oud Maximus 2020 or Oud Monarchy. They're all funky suckers with animalics, florals, etc.

    • @jasonbenford3427

🤣🤣!! Whenever I hear or see animalic in a description, I'm immediately apprehensive!😬
Yes, I understand that can be intriguing, but I don't want to be so off put, that the experience is deterring.
      The D&G seems like a good idea.💡
Jubilation XXV is another one that has piqued my interest.
Now, I've only tried Reflection Man, and Dia Man from Amouage. Basically, because I heard that they were some of the more accessible from the brand. Love Reflection.
Have grown to appreciate Dia. Very well blended.
Let me rewatch some reviews about Jubilation XXV. Something must have made me hesitant.
**Honestly, when I see the note breakdown for most Amouage fragrances, I wonder "how the hell can that smell good"?🤷🏾‍♂️/🤣
If I ever come across Woody Style, I'll definitely try to snag a sample.
I'll check DecantX for Royal Oud as well as D&G Mysterious Night.

Hello there. Love your mind and the way your brain works. Not to mention your DNA in your work. I think you are brilliant and kind and very generous to parfum houses. Even when you don't like a fragrance. Such a breath of fresh air in the fragrance community. I dislike it when people trash someone else's work. I appreciate your perspective. I actually have two questions.. have you reviewed terroni or Boccanera by orto parisi? I'm so curious what your take would be. I actually layer them both along side patchouly by profumum roma. Which leads me to my next question: have you decided on the whole niche patchouli type of release? I would love to wear just one fragrance as wearing three gets a bit pricy. Hahah on other days i just wear your tabac with patchouly. Sometimes onyx even tho it's not my thing really but it's such beautiful work i feel like i must. The only one i do not own or have tried is boss bitch or bastard for that matter. I'm rambling so i will end with this: Thank you for being you.

I agree with the "Need to let it macerate" part. I keep hearing this when I criticise a fragrance for having underwhelming performance, and I include my July 2019 batch of Royal oud in that. I like it, a lot, but I do suspect it's lacking something that earlier batches may have enjoyed, and I am not prepared to use 20 - 30 % of it in order to give it room to breathe, and let it stew for a few years to get what I already paid for.

I don't smell any Oud in it at all... honestly could be called Royal Cedar - because that's what most people get from it... strong clean cedar/woody smelling

Just samples this today and love the scent but was not quite what I was expecting and to my nose was quite heavy on the citrus - while the lemon and bergamot are listed as the top notes I don’t see many reviews mentioning the heavy citrus I’m getting??
Anyone else get the heavy citrus?

Ive had my bottle of Royal Oud for close to 2 years and I've worn it once to a wedding. It does smell good but I can't find any occasion to wear it. That's why I've been trying to sell my bottle. I think 300$ is more than fair for 99% full bottle, but no one wants it.

Royal Oud was my first Creed purchase, scent wise its a 10/10 for me but overall its probably a 5 as i'd need to reapply it every hour!
I bought this fragrance as many of the perfume bores i know tried to hide behind the "Creed is the best because: ambergris". Turns out only a few of their range actually use it, and if it added anything to the longevity or sillage i didnt notice.
Love the scent. If they made it last, i'd buy more of it :)

  • @TheRecordButton
    @TheRecordButton ปีที่แล้ว

The name does the actual scent a disservice, calling it royal oud might give an expectation of something heavily oriental and not a fougere. I have an older bottle and two sprays for me is absolutely room filling. The price, when you think about how much scent you get per spray, makes the price asking worth it - but as with anything Creed unfortunately there has probably been reformulation. I hope my 4oz bottle never runs out!
I do believe it is one that sends you to another place and scene type fragrance, maybe something of a winter destination type places where there's snow and layers of clothes are involved with a forest not too far away. I may be biased because my first use of this fragrance was at the German village Leavenworth, here locally in Washington State during Christmas time. Just a wonderful cold weather fragrance without going heavy.
This was a signature scent for a former US pres, but to keep this from going political I will not be naming who. It is certainly a classy, mature scent.
