    That's one of the thing I prefer in japanese rock: here we have awesome musicians, each totally masters of their instruments (for years! I have video of Koga/bass and Tomo-zo/guitar already playing at very high level more than 10 years ago - and don"t start me on Hana/drums-guitar-vocals and anything else she wants to play) BUT they never forget to enjoy what they're doing and having fun - to the point you wouldn't believe they're virtuosos by simply looking at pictures.

    I heard this song Mindset the first time in your video. Unexpected, Japanese all-girl band doing the most explosive funk ever? Immediately I went down the rabbithole to the strange wonderland of Gacharic Spin, and I'm never coming up again. So thank you.

    Great job there Steve although I expected no less. I saw one reactor get to the end of this video and say "... but there was no guitar." I think Tomo-Zo (guitar) would be very surprised and disappointed to hear that! I see others have already suggested some songs so I'm just going to go give those comments a thumb. Looking forward to more.

    if you haven't you should check out some of their live performances. The music videos give you some idea but their concerts are next level. One of the best is Tamashii where Hana (vocalist and drummer) and their new main drummer Yuri are both on drums.

    Composed, arranged and produced by the band. Original composer is designated the lead and writes initial parts for the others, then they go off and work on their parts before coming together and fine tuning, with the lead having final say. They also are the band members of the infrequent supergroup Doll$Boxx (with Fuki of Unlucky Morpheus as lyricist and main vocalist) which is harder and more metal but still just as complex and clean - th-cam.com/video/GiWSW8YkBfs/w-d-xo.html

    A couple of songs that I love watching by them next to the already mentioned I Wish I:
    - Gacharic Spin - Instrumental - 2018: Great showcase of their musicianship
    - Gacharic Spin TAMASHII 2019 Live: Two of them on drums
    - Gacharic Spin Redline 2019 Live: Good showcase of the energy in their newest iteration
    There are some great older ones as well, but I am less familiar with those with the exception on Hunting Summer (ハンティングサマー), which isn't my favourite track but their 2016 version is amazing to watch because of the energy and a great interaction with the main vocalist/keyboard player later on in the track.
    I will link to it bellow, hopefully my comment won't get removed because of that.

    They have *many* songs, they've been around a while, I'm sure you'll get recommendations galore.
    What might also be interesting is that DOLL$BOXX is a collaboration between Gacharic Spin and metal vocalist Icon Fuyuki Tenge. They did some really cool stuff together. So for GS personally I'd go with either "I Wish I" or "Tamashii" next, for something a bit more metal-y try DOLL$BOXX "Shout Down", alternatively the very fun "Merrily High Go Round".
    Hana (here as the drummer) is quite the phenomenon, she does play drums, guitar, does vocals and she also enjoys playing famous tunes on household items during Quarantine times ( th-cam.com/video/oi2K1PmKJiM/w-d-xo.html )

    I want this band on the soundtrack to a new Jet Set Radio. Just the right combination of funk, attitude, and danceability. I'm gonna borrow your word - Delicious 😁 This was a lot of fun. I need a brand new playlist for stuff like this and Dirty Loops. I feel like they kinda have a bit of the same feel-good busy-yet-laid-back grooviness. We need a name for this style. 🤘

    Trust me, if you thought this surprised me you should check out I wish I. I'd recommend the live version. They are just six members. The drummer in this videos usually plays guitar but their drummer was on maternity leave when they recorded this. She's missing in the music video for I wish I as well. In that they've got a male drummer sitting in.

    • @MaartenT
      @MaartenT 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They have 6 members. Yuri (their current drummer) was indeed on matterinity leave in this video and the I Wish I video, she might also have been gone during the recording of the album, but I'm not sure about that.
      Members, copied from wikipedia and it looks correct from what I can see with the exception that Hana sometimes plays vibraphone and who knows what else as well and that yuri has done short bits of vocals on some live tracks.
      F Chopper Koga (F チョッパー KOGA) - bass, bandleader (2009-present)
      Hana (はな) - guitar, vocals, drums (2009-present)
      Tomo-zo - guitar, vocals (2009-present)
      Oreo Reona (オレオレオナ) - keyboards, vocals, acoustic guitar (2012-present)
      Angelina 1/3 (アンジェリ ーナ1/3) - performer, vocals (2019-present)
      yuri - drums (2019-present)
      That's the great thing about having 2 drummers as they can swap if needed (or have songs with both of them performing on drums, like the Tamashii live they did in 2019) + having someone like Hana, who can basically play everything (she was a bassist in her previous band).
      The male drummer that sometimes fills in for them during concerts is called Levin. I am not 100% sure why they sometimes swap him in, even when Yuri does other songs in the set, but maybe some of the huge Gacharic Spin fans can fill me in on that.
      I like them quite a bit and I absolutely love MindSet, it's my favourite new song of last year, but not all of their songs are 100% my thing. That being said, their live concerts are pure energy and fun to watch and I am getting more and more used to most of their styles over the last couple of months.

    • @nomusician4737
      @nomusician4737 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@MaartenT Yeah, I had a bit of a brain fart. I've got almost their whole discography and listen to them almost daily so I'd say I like them quite a bit as well. I have to admit I'm not really that fond of the first five or so years, but starting from G-litter they've just keep getting better and better. The addition of Angie and Yuri was perfect.
      I think them letting Angie take over more and more as a lead really shows what a great band they are. It could easily have been a blow to the ego of Hana to step forward only to see Angie get the respons she does but as far as I can see she has almost reacted the opposite.

    • @MaartenT
      @MaartenT 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@nomusician4737
      I 100% agree. I also prefer their newer stuff, especially their latest album, but it might be because I know those songs the best. I am relatively new to them and only bought some of their stuff and pre-ordered their newest album because I love MindSet even though I knew I didn't like most of the rest that I had heard back then. But I have been getting a lot of their older CD's and DVD's as well because of people asking for their live stuff on some other reactions streams. I am even not a huge fan of G-litter myself (with the exception of 1 or 2 tracks), but I am getting more and more used to it and it's still fun to watch it live. G-litter is the oldest album I own at the moment (not counting the DVD's/Blu-rays).
      I still have 2 albums stuck in Japan because of DVD's that by other bands that seem to be impossible to get any more and my order is blocked because of that. I am probably close to having everything I can possibly get without spending 100's of euro's on used items (per item) that have been going up in price like crazy. I should have gotten some of these a year ago when they were still possible to get and I'm kicking myself that I didn't, but what can you do.
      Finding new reactors who discover this band has been addicting the last couple of months. And while a lot of their music is still on the poppy side for me and I generally dislike processed vocals, I am getting more so that has been fun.

  • @Greg-om2hb

    There best song might be “I wish I” (start with the music video), the first track on their latest album. (Mindset is the second track.)
    赤裸ライアー (sekira raia / red naked liar) is an earlier song by the same lineup that’s lots of fun.

    Second others suggestions of "I Wish I", "Tamashi". "Instrumental" great showcase for guitarist Tomo-zo. All sing - primarily Angelina, Hana and Oreo, but Tomo-zo leads on more j-pop songs, Koga wails, and Yuri (here out on maternity leave) contributes. As others said power singer Fuki has joined them both as guest and in side project Doll$Boxx - in concert unbelievable MVs great. If understand lyrics Kahuken voice effects and styles make sense. Probably not ready for silliness of "Hunting Summer" or other more comic songs.

    I’ve hear one or two of their other songs and there was growl screams and I hate that nonsense, but I like this song. It’s a cacophony of funk, keys and harmonies. Good stuff. If anybody knows other big songs of theres without screaming please share. Thanks in advance.

    • @MaartenT
      @MaartenT 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Most of their songs don't have growls/screams as far as I know, so you should be safe with most of them. And even for the couple of ones that have harsh vocals, they are never them as the dominant vocal style. Doll$boxx, the other band with the majority of these musicians have more harsh vocals alongside Fuki's clean vocals, but Gacharic Spin almost never uses them.
      And yeah, I can understand that you hate it. I am used to it having listened to mainly metal styles that use almost only growls or screams the last 15 years or so, but it's certainly something you need to get used to at first. I didn't love it when I started listening to those styles either.
      Edit: You can check my links in my other post for songs that don't have harsh vocals (with the exception of I Wish I, which uses them sporadically).

    The current lineup differs from what's presented in this video in that Hana, the drummer, has largely shifted over to guitar and more prominent vocals and a drummer named Yuri has taken over on the kit. I think Yuri and Hana do drum duets live, but I could be wrong. GS has some incredible musicians who always make me wonder what's coming next. I see someone else has mentioned Doll$box, so I'll only mention that the official video for "Take My Chance" is greatness.

  • @Kmudaify
    @Kmudaify 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    This is a group that has been around for a good while with the bass player (Koga), drummer (Hanna), and guitar player (Tomo Zo) being there from the beginning. Phase 2 occurred after their former lead singer (Armmy) died and involved the keyboard player (Oreo) coming on board with the drummer taking over as a primary vocalist along with the keyboard player. Phase 3 involved the inclusion of a pair of "performers" (dancers), one of which was also an awesome keyboard player in her own right. There were a couple of iterations of this formation with one of the dancers being replaced before Phase 4, which was the group with a single "performer" (Mai). What you are seeing here is Phase 5. After the final "performer" retired, the pink haired vocalist replaced her, they added a new drummer, with the existing drummer moving out front on guitar.... and sometimes with two drummers. That is the iteration they are in now. This video was probably made when their new drummer was out having a child. I give all this background because if you start binging on Gacharic Spin you are going to find a bunch of different formats and even styles. The original version with Armmy was funky punk rock. The second, third, and fourth version was all funk and party. This version is.... what you see,.
