Absolutely, got dark, seemed like it was all falling apart(in a good way) just when they brought it all together to end it. Was there, one of my top shows
I read your comment as video started. Had to come back as it ended... Holy lord dude. Between this style and their new light setup some people are definitely having a good time this tour!
Exactly. Started in '91 watched it all grow, evolve, innovate and melt minds. Deer Creek 2021 was probably the happiest and most creative I've heard the band so far. Trey's new guitar is fucking incredonle. Never heard artificial harmonics swirl around an amphitheatre into the void like that before. The only negative was the height of the amphitheatre wouldn't allow for CK5's whole rig and the lights remained stationary for the whole weekend. The Gorge is going to be close encounters world. They're the best. It's really that simple.
Yeah, totally not possible back then. They are so expressive as musicians, this reflects all the years of experience on and off stage and goes places that simply didn't exist back then. Fucking stunning. And at 8 minutes went off the rails and never came back. For some reason it reminds me of YEM on Halloween 95 in Chicago.
It really is. I’m still absolutely glowing from Deer Creek. That Blaze On jam absolutely hit me in a way no other jam has before. Like spiritually connected and sent me flying.
Grateful Dead 1977 is the absolute pinnacle of improvised jamming. The music they played that year is among the most gorgeous music ever played especially any one of the Morning Dews they played. Sadly Jerry Garcia started smoking heroin and ruined his voice (& life) not long after. Thankfully the world gone to sh*t has inspired Phish to the point they’re playing their best music since the early 2000s.
I can agree, in the sense that the are the tightest, as in playing together sharp and crisp!? They sound polished while jamming. The dead can be another whole conversation about something equally good or better, but looser/relaxed in their jams
The dead seem to let the jams come to them, where phish seems to search for the with more intentions. Equally good with different attitude, ends up being a question of personal preference as to who did it better. Phish is still together doing it strong, so go! Now!!! There’re coming to your town, and you can usually find a miracle on a Sunday!!
Being honest you caught what we would refer to as a rare show. It’s the thing we all chase. See 10 shows many 1-2 are this level. That’s the game is finding the rare shows
I hope you understand that 2nd set, was absolutely one of the best sets they’ve played in years... maybe ever. I was in the Pavilion Page side, laughing and crying during Blaze On because they were playing so well. Then this happened.....
11:13 it was here, when Page began massaging that melody into the jam on his Moog that the Deer Creek Simple went from "wow this is really good!" to "God damn, this is going to be a jam of the year contender!"
@@joshkorin7547 best i've seen. if anyone reading this has a rebuttal, just drop the date and i'll cross reference it with Deer Creek Simple and see how it stacks up
This song is played in the key of F Major. What's cool is the jam moves to G, and they stay there through the end of the song. I've never heard this song in a different key and you can see Trey & Page laughing at the end because of it.
Thank you for this Key profile! I knew seeing this Live from the get-go that it was going to be a jam for the ages. They were locked in on everything from the first to last bar. Love the Deep Purple and Zeppelin teases
Cool observation. I always took Treys laugh more as holy shit I can’t believe we were able to escape that chasm to hell we just opened with that epic dark jam and lived to sing another verse.
Cool perspective on the key change - I hadn't noticed that before. But, I think they're laughing because Trey starts playing and singing a reprise in a song which, to my knowledge, has never had one.
People are going to be talking about this tour for years to come. This is the freakiest, craziest, deepest jam I've heard yet from this tour. Trey and Page almost can't stop laughing at the end, they're in such bliss. This plus Blaze On plus the incredible first set trio of Carini, Wolfman's, Sand plus WOTC, plus Harry Hood with its bluesy jam, plus the encore trio, make this a strong candidate for best show of tour. So glad to have been there.
LOL that piano tech coming in to save the day at 6:29. Imagine the direction page was forced to take! This couldve been a completely different jam without that piano tech help! Thank u!
I think it's cause Simple starts in the key of F, Trey moved them to G for the jam, and decided to stay there yo finish the song. I've never heard this song in a different key. Too cool.
Thanks for an amazing show. I spent way to much money driving n on tickets. This covid thing has me so broke but my best friend died in 2007. We had been going to phish shows since 1996 together at Alpine valley. It hurts he's dead but it's a family tradition now. My 12yr old daughter wouldn't let me go a summer without a Phish show. I may not eat this week but the memories will last a lifetime. Charley T.
This is amazing! So happy to see the band firing on all cylinders and LOCKED IN. This tour has been amazing already and I think it's safe to say we are in 4.0 now, and it's magical!
The moment at 17:30 is some of the best and most insane music i've ever heard in my life. You can see Trey turn around and switch off his amp, and lets all of his effects run through his leslie speaker. It sounds like some cosmic monster sucking you into a wormhole. Absolutely nuts
Probably the greatest concert of my lifetime. I thought Bakers Dozen would be the pinnacle. I was so so so wrong. They are on fire once again. Blaze On and Simple were all-timers.

2021 best live Phish in years
It sure was
They're so locked in that sometimes it's almost hard to believe they're improvising. Truly the best there's ever been at it.
Have you ever tried listening to live King Crimson or live Yes? They're also outstanding improv with really tight live synchronicity
