Big Picture: Wherever Brave Men Fight
Department of Defense. Department of the Army. Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations. U.S. Army Audiovisual Center. (ca. 1974 - 05/15/1984). Since pre-Revolutionary times, the U.S. Army Infantryman has evolved into a man of many faces...ranger, airborne paratrooper, and Special Forces soldier--infantrymen all! This unusual episode, narrated by Vic Morrow, dramatically chronicles the development of combat techniques from the soldier of two centuries ago to the highly skilled fighting man of today. He is conditioned to survive and fight on any terrain, in any climate, and under any conditions. It is generally considered that the Infantryman is the ultimate weapon. How and why he will continue to be is the subject of this week's THE BIG PICTURE--"Wherever Brave Men Fight."

The new kids I had in 2006 to 2008 in Iraq were good at least for my platoon.Nobody got killed or wounded at least because I had trained them during pre-deployment training constantly. Its a leader's responsibility to kick their ass and moving. My platoon was young,18-21 year olds so I had their full attention to include my 23 year old new platoon leader. My soldiers now are NCOs who are hard as steel.I am greatful that they listened to me.They call me often for advice to include my old PL.

When my first combat in Panama and my 2 tours in Iraq.I never underestimated the enemy ever.In Infantry combat it takes just one mistake and hesitation to die because you have one life to live.Skill and luck goes together with tactics and guts.Losing a guy in the unit sucks for everybody because an Infantry Squad,Platoon, and Company is a family. You fight for your brothers.Appreciate your comment John.Airborne Brother!!

John no joke brother! My dad fought against the Chinese in Korea. He told me these guys learned to be tough fighting against the Japanese. The were masters of infiltration and assault.Dad said that you were fighting an army of soldier ants, they would take a battallion to over run your platoon.Gen.Stillwell trained also the Chi-coms to fight in Burma and China. He made them face the vaunted Japanese Army.Stillwell was an old school Infantryman all the way.The Chinese did learn from him also.

I just wonder what the drill instuctors of 100 years ago would think of basic training today.

Chinese never hv to learn how to fight from Americans, not at all. Chinese hv been here a lot of longer than Amercians r, they must know how to fight to survice this long. LOL The Chinese army ur Americans were facing during the Korean War, were the best army of Chinese entire history. They are not the same one under Gen. Stillwell in Burma. The video I recommended shows the big gap between Chinese & American soldiers. Let's wishing our both countries be friends. Please say NO to fight China.
