    Of all the Sr staff, Riker is the only one who's been through an actual mutiny, so he was being very cautious in this scene to not replicate that scenario, knowing that it could get everyone killed.

      @saoirsevicteoiria2759 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Also, although I can see why Worf, as a Security Office, would immediately see gathering confederates as a move towards mutiny, Riker, who wrestling with removing his captain from command (not mutiny), understandably wants to make sure he's not overreacting or overreaching, and confers with fellow officers to get their perspectives on the situation... which looks and has to feel a lot like mutiny, regardless.

    It's crazy how the command crew find Picard's sudden change in demeanor almost mutiny-worthy while the rest of the crew in the lower decks don't notice or don't care.
    It would have been kind of scary to be there singing along with the captain, then turn to look at the redshirt table to see subdued looks of horror being shared with each other.

    • @afaultytoaster
      @afaultytoaster 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +12

      The story seems to be adapted from one of the Hornblower stories. Rather than being an alien, the captain has some kind of personality disorder like paranoid schizophrenia, and the gist is that the captain gets the crew on his side by lavishing them with booze and leisure time, because he's convinced his officers are plotting to kill him. Ironically the brutality he shows against the officers encourages them to mutiny.

    • @the_synack
      @the_synack 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +19

      The lower deck crew doesn't interact with the captain directly on a day to day basis, unlike the senior officers and bridge crew. You don't understand Picard's psychology at all. Picard acts cold and aloof to hide his passionate and emotional nature. We see that all the time, outbursts of passionate emotion when he loses his iron self-control: "The line must be drawn HERE! This far! No farther!"
      It's in fact the entire reason he chose Riker as his XO. They are polar opposites. Where Picard hides his romantic heart under a layer of cool officiousness, Riker is everyone's best friend and a party animal -- to hide his _true_ nature of cold ruthlessness. We see the real Riker in Thomas, the man he would have become without Picard's influence. Both men learn from each other over the course of the series, with Picard learning how to let a little of his feelings show and Riker learning how to feel a little compassion for people.

      How do you perceive the original vs. the dubbed?
      Is the dubbing industry in Japan kinda 'underdeveloped', too?`
      I can say that in Germany the range is wide and usually you need a really decent budget to get proper dubbing. Animated dubs tend to be worst, because voice acting often isn't so much acting as making-funny-voices.
      There are a few instances, though, where the German dubbing is actually arguably better than the original. The first Star Wars movies, for example. - And although I might be biased because I grew up watching Saber Rider in German, I would say that, too, sounds a lot better in German than in English. Adds so much distinct character.

      @@Dowlphin First, i am the guy who watch anything with JP dubbed with JP subtitles with my eyes and ears. (cause it will tell me more information).
      i think JP dubbed is par with or better than original . especialy male voice acting.
      (But female voice acting, original voice is good and strong than dubbed voice).
      in my opinion, Most Moveis, Shows and Animes will be dubbed well in japanese.
      Because the voice acting industry in japan is really big and has many good actors.
      (Especially, low tone heavy male voice).
      Star Trek (TNG to ENT) has got with Top Tier voice actores.
      P.S.
      You can check How japanese voice actors are.
      Check comparison video like
      "Adventure Time" OP in any language.
      and Lemongrab screaming (lemon guy)
      in any language. you see japanese actors doing well.

      It's the one where Picard is trapped in a room with 3 aliens and they're being tested like lab rats with puzzles. That's probably the more memorable story line from the episode. The "Picard" seen in this clip is a replacement they left to experiment on the crew and see how far they will listen to authority.

    Efficiency drills for the first time in his tour of duty? They've never run an effciency drill before? And the captain ordering one is cause for concern about his mental wellbeing... I suppose Starfleet is not meant be a miltary, and "drills" are something that militaries do. I wonder if they do fire drills. Or is that too "military".

    • @blackbot7113
      @blackbot7113 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's possible that he never felt the need to do so because the Enterprise keeps running into real emergencies. He might just read the reports and come to the conclusion that they were at peak efficiency in these emergencies, so doesn't see a reason to add drills on top of that.
      The drill itself wouldn't be concerning, nor would the toast or the poker game. Not really, anyways. It's all of them happening at once that raises eyebrows.

One would think that they would believe that acting strange for the captain would be to drink coffee instead of earl gray, and start to scratch his nose frequently.

    The Original Series was always a western with the veneer of being a sci-fi. The Enterprise was always exploring the “untamed lands”, which could be clearly linked thematically to the Wild West.
    Moments like this make me think that TNG was supposed to be something along the line of a civilized Royal British Navy show, but in space. There are a surprisingly large number of times that someone on this show breaks out into the sort of drinking song that would be sang by stuffy British naval officers on a wooden sailing ship in the 18th century. Even all the way up to Star Trek: Insurrection.

    0:06 I would suspect it is the remaster that made this warp exit starfield effect look so crappy. It is lacking any filtering, looking too crisp.
    _"Ales for everyone!"_ - Wow, the captain is so generous. How much energy it must cost to replicate that. 😜 (Surely it is not real alcohol in those, so also not some exception while on duty.)
    1:30 *Engage!* 😁
    1:41 Wow, so that *is' real ale, and it went to his head reeeal quick. 😄
    But great that someone reminded of the unusual energy activity in his quarters. That should have been a tremendously relevant clue all-along. They could even have asked him about it.
