@@dontelindsey5846 i say 2004 because i feel like after she turned 60 a lot of the power and vocal consistency she had in her voice she lost. she was sorta already having vocal issues in 2003/04 anyway but the good thing is she can still sing as good as she can even at her age today!
this is amazing. Completely live and just singing and like the person said below it was written this way to have her over sing and sing loudly. Nataile Cole aint no punk either girlfriend can blow.
Excuse me but the blinking in the video has got to go. But ignoring that. Natalie and Patti was singing tails off. Patti overpowered the background singers, the piano, and Natalie. A gigantic powerful voice. But you can tell she wasn't really trying to. The fire of the performance. Natalie was bringing the melody and the runs. Soothing like water. It was lovely.
Even though the episode was about getting rid of her roommate they STILL sound better than anything you or most "singers" today will ever be able to do. Patti may not be everyone's cut of tea but you better believe she can SANG! Natalie Cole's voice is hers alone and she held her own with what she is able to do. Patti's voice is yes, louder, stronger, higher, but the blend was PERFECTION.
RIP Natalie Cole, RIP True Talents In Music, we lost a true voice , a great voice, a voice that didn't need fiction editing from computers and the voice that only needs a piano to rock the house #GONETOOSOON 😭😭😭😭😭
Great two female singers could come together, sing together and just have fun. They were good friends. Natalie always idolized Patti and learned a lot from Patti. They always supported one another in shows, concerts and their personal lives. They both just loved to sing: together or separately. No competing against each other just loving each other’s talent. Patti is Natalie’s peer. Natalie never tried to stand ahead of Patti just next to her…❤
I loved it; they both sang their butts off. I had always wanted to hear patti sing that song and she sang it the way it 's supposed to be sung. she just has a most unique and powerful gift. if other singers could hit those notes they would not hesitate. she's not insecure at all, she's just a singing somebody.
Wow, I never saw this before! I'm 63 and during the time period this aired I worked nights and did not have a chance to watch evening tv for many years. Thank you for posting!
I always notice small gems in a song that stand out to me. I love 1:55 - 2:01 That riff Natalie does. 2:56 - 3:01 Natalie and Patti can BURN! That gave me chills.
@@quiddy yea, she did it there. Also a great version was united negro college fund performance of it. I think she has another with bob hope. All in the 90s.
@@quiddywell also her amazing music director James Budd Ellison is on the piano, it could have been his idea too. He knows how to bring out Patti's best. At least one of the background singers also regularly toured with Patti, the man I think his name was Tommy. He is in the live in NYC vs/DVD
insecure??? lol this person is no patti fan!!! I personally love when patti "shouts" I've watched almost all her videos and interviews on youtube and I never got insecure from her lol. She seems to love herself and her voice very much... Darcel like I said this person is no Patti Labelle Fan!!!!!!
Patti Labelle never said she was insecure she said in her Bio she was shy, there is a difference so no need to defend her to anyone if you're a real fan you know her well.....Thanks for standing up and being counted.
Trust me i woulda love to see and hear them both sing but when it woulda gotten too loud I woulda been like him running upstairs and turn on the fan really loud 😅😅😅😅😅😅 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
This was wonderful. I'm surprised Patti can't harmonize, coming from a girl group. She completely drowned Natalie out. She has two switches off, and full blast.
+Torrey Green, I don't think the intent was to drown Natalie out. Anyone who sings with Patti knows you have to bring the beast. But I think her over-sing in this was scripted as part of the sitcom. In this episode, she had Duane Martin's character staying with her after he fought with his roommate and was being stubborn about it. Patti's character was trying her best to be over the top to wear him out to go back home. Like the foot stomping from 2:10 to 2:20.
+Torrey Green Plus, if you look at this compilation of performances from the sitcom, she not over-drowning at all when she is with other folks. But once she hits You Are My Friend near the end, singing solo, the beast in unleashed and she is pure Patti. th-cam.com/video/3MSo9xsWzYQ/w-d-xo.html
why do you respond to people like MrJudube it makes no sense to defend Patti Labelle, her work speaks for itself and this person who speaks 9 different languages obviously is not a fan of music and definitely don't have an ear for it.....
No wonder this sit-com was short lived! Natalie and Patti are/were great singers, that should go without saying, but the comedy aspect of this is lacking, severely!
I am glad. But the problem arose when you decided to call Patti, "insecure". That was the main issue. If you appreciated, you wouldn't have downgraded. Just saying.
Nat looks like your elementary principal and patti a supervisor 😂
Love it. They sound great. Ain"t a voice on this planet like Patti Labelle in her prime.
you so right and this isnt even her prime!!
88-94 were 🔥🔥🔥 for her
@@BigWhiteBoyLuvsPatti actually Pattis Prime ended after 2004.
@@i_lovejamarionI'm not disagreeing or agreeing but how 2004?

This performane on a sitcom, purporse to make people laugh, is still way better than the 2015 AMAS's performances all combined
ok
Oh Lord how I love this. I met Patti Labelle and got to sing with her on stage. She is PHENOMENAL. Such a nice lady.

This was a GOOD show, I thought it'd last at least 6 seasons.
Then you were delusional. It would've lasted three seasons at most.
THIS IS HILARIOUS AS HELL!!!
That was genius - who would have thought of putting his eye is on the sparrow on top of From A Distance ? They have the same chords it seems

2 things about Patti LaBelle: She's always gonna have good hair, and she's always gonna sing her entire ASS off.
Over kill as usually
she got the receipts for that hair

Patti woulda pissed me off that night....All that wailing and belting out loud. But I love her.
Soulful Moment, LLC well said !
That was the purpose of the scene in the sitcom. She was trying to get rid of her roommate by keeping him up late aka screaming and partying.
Is that kadisha's living single pad? Lol.❤.
What voice type is Natalie Cole?
@MrJudube How do you get her being insure out of having a REALLY GIGANTIC VOICE?

This was wonderful. I'm surprised Patti can't harmonize, coming from a girl group. She completely drowned Natalie out. She has two switches off, and full blast.
+Torrey Green Patti just has a powerful voice. Even in her group, she didn't really blend well with Sarah Dash and Nona Hendrix
+Torrey Green She was always a lead singer too, Torrey. I see your point tho. And.. your kinda right...

+Torrey Green Patti never harmonizes with no one. She out sings and oversings. It's both her strength and weakness.
Wow it is sad watching Dwayne and Tisha Campbell. I wished they worked out.
I get the connection....but I think when she sings those insecurities are not left behind, so agree to disagree! :D
Lol.❤
I like to figure out if a person is ignorant, or just stupid. Some people may not know, but I like to weed out the unaware from the foolish.
