Leather Thickness Explained | Finding the Right Thickness for Your Project

Whether crafting a belt or slim wallet, you need to take special consideration into the leather thickness you use for your projects. MM and ounce measurements can be confusing, but this video will help you demystify the thickness process.
*QUICK TIP*
Remember that 1 Oz. = 0.4 mm. So to calculate your leather thickness in mm simply multiply your leather weight by 0.4.

Thank you for the conversion information - it is helpful! I’ve started making things with leather, like bags and wallets, and I’m having fun with it, but having trouble finding leather to purchase. (Im in the middle of the US, in a small town). When you showed (cut into!) the folio, I remembered that I had a similar one that I found in a t(rift store for $1. It never occurred to me that it might be leather, but it is! It has the right feel, and even the smell. I’ve enjoyed using it, but will now appreciate it even more.

Thanks for the tips! I have been trial-and-erroring a standard bifold wallet. Finally, I am happy with the dimensions and the leather thickness. Trouble is, now I want to try and make it out of better leather, but the one I want is softer than what I have been practicing with. Should I order the softer leather a bit thicker, to account for the lost stiffness of the wallet, or does slickness come first? My goal is a product that will last at least a decade.
