Thanks, you know us, we're always trying to make the best of a bad situation, especially when we're hot, tired and stressed! It does seem to be getting a little easier here so fingers crossed 🥰⛵🐾
Fabulous video, I love the product promo. Anchor Right is a fabulous Aussie product been using them for years. We put ours on 6 months ago and they’re still great. We also put on 3 widgets, a little extra tip is to put them every 2 links so that if the chain rolls over you don’t miss a colour. We also put an additional odd colour at 2m so you know when the anchor is about to arrive, works much better for Tony… Ferronet stainless cleaner has been incredible we bought an extra bottle. I wash it off after 10 minutes. Thanks for that tip, it has changed my life.
We love hearing that you’re enjoying our videos and are also using Anchor Right. Great tip too, thank you. The stainless cleaner is great. We've actually asked a follower to bring some with them if they can when they cross the pond this year haha! 🥰⛵🐾
Love the shiny new chain, we certainly had an easier time getting our on board a couple of months ago 🫣, well done 👍🏻. We’re missing our Anchorite markers though, back in the shopping list for next year. Sorry to hear what’s going on in Martinique, it isn’t making mainstream news and appreciate you including it - take care.
@@sailwiththegales Yes, we love the chain markers so far. Martinique has quietened fown and shops are restocked at the moment. We went on a long walk the other day, was quite saddened at the amount of burned our businesses. We're really looking forward to the next sailing season. Thanks for watching & commenting 🥰⛵️
Sure is nice to see and hear you two laughing and getting up to the usual antics! Seeing the old dinghy leaving bought a tear to me too! She sure had a mind of her own, that one! All the best and be safe. Richard
Thanks Richard, we were really sad to see her go but the new one is great. We're always up to something and it's nice to hear you've been enjoying the ride! ⛵🐾🥰
Wow it will be great having that new chain we couldn’t believe how much rust there was . Hope yous get food and get that freezer filled up . Can’t wait to see yous on your adventure . 😊
We were really pleased to be able to replace the chain after years of putting it off, but now it's done and we can focus on getting back to sailing! Food is becoming a little easier so we are hopeful. Thanks for watching & commenting guys 🥰⛵🐾
It was well over due, unfortunately end-to-ending the chain is not so good unless done every year. All we did was fill the anchor locker with crap. Hope you're both good 🥰⛵🐾
Glad you're back guys & working hard, not easy in the heat I know! The Ferronet juice seems interesting, I was worried that it might have muriatic / hydrochloric acid in it as that's the best stuff for getting rust off fiberglass but will damage your SS. Just read the tech sheet though & although they are very cagey about what exact acids are in it they do state it's safe for any metal other than tin or aluminium so should be cool. Do keep an eye though and see if you think the rust comes back quicker now you've used the acid I'd be really interested to know. Re your winter plans, we are in Aruba at the moment. The ABC's are a good place (safe) for hurricane season, but be aware it's a long time to be here! Certainly I wouldn't just aim to stay in Aruba and once you're here you wont be heading East! so head for Bonaire at least and work your way on the one way ticket West. We've had the hurricane season split between Grenada, Bonaire, Curacao and Aruba and still I'm going stir crazy waiting for hurricane season to be over so we can get sailing! Do drop us a line and we can give you the low down if you want.
Thanks, yes it feels like a life-time since we were aboard but we are so pleased to be back. The Ferronet juice is good, but we are keeping an eye on it just in case. Steve loves his magic beans and Cordelia has been full of them over the years haha! We are still quite unsure whether we are definitely heading to Aruba for the next hurricane season. It seems to be the right place, but we are also looking at Guatemala. Aruba have said our boat is too old to be lifted and can only offer us a wet berth. This is not a deal breaker, but we do have a ton of work to do on her and we were hoping to start it there. Would be good to have a call and get your views on Aruba, if that's okay. What are your sailing plans for this coming season? Are you heading to the canal and the Pacific? Thanks for your detailed comment btw, always nice to hear from one of the big channels 🥰⛵🐾
Massive binge tonight on all your episodes 😅 love you guys!! Where did you buy your chain in the end? We need to replace ours but I’m so dubious about quality! 😅
@@SailingPickleFamily Thanks guys. We bought it in Martinique, 100mtrs for €1250. Steve made me triple check the chain coding to make sure it was good stuff. We'd hsve loved the SS but far far out of our budget 🥰🐾🥰🐾 x x
It does appear the government have agreed to reduce the price of 6000 items, although the protestors are still insisting they reduce the other 36000 items. You are right, it is still a place to provision and some supermarkets are now getting better for that. We are hoping that by the time we leave in a couple of weeks that we are able to stock up. We want lamb for Christmas and we know we can get it here haha! Thanks for watching & commenting 🥰⛵🐾
I wrote a lengthy comment here...........then lost it?? That cockpit really does look good, just have been hard going? I have a question Steve - if your thumb is an arse blocker then what are your fingers for? Collecting the chain was hilarious! Thank you for making us laugh so much. There is nothing you can't do! I'm always impressed with how you achieve stuff. Well done. Another question - when the chain goes in the locker does it just pile up on top of itself? Xxxx
Thank you for your comment, we're glad we made you laughed. Its not always our intention, but life with us can have its hilarious moments. We will add your questions to our next episode, thank you xxx 🥰⛵🐾
Brilliant as ever but I have 2 questions which I presume I will become a you tube star when you read out my name in the next video😂😂 1. Why don’t you use a mixture of rope and chain? 2 why did you not tie both dingy’s together and put half the chain in 1 dingy and the other half in the other dingy? Looking forward to the answers 😂😂😂 Love you guys lots
Its like Laurel and Hardy meets Keystone cops,. You are towing the dinghy with the equivalent of 5 grown men in it, i'm surprised you didn't try to hold the rope in your teeth rather than wrap a tourniquet around your leg. well done on the clean up of the old chain and installation of the new. Keep safe 🙏
Thanks Mr Grumpy, you know Steve as well as I do and if he'd have thought about holding it with his teeth, he would have!!! Glad we're still entertaining you though 🥰⛵🐾
Small keyboard hands on a mans rope 🤭 well I never. That is some really decent heavy tackle you have there, worth its weight in gold in a blow. She's coming along nicely shame about the heat restricting your work shifts especially with the rubber downer on strike
Thanks Ian, the heat is a killer when you're trying to get work done. Steve has just removed the 2 alternators in the engine room, both need replacing and he came out worse than if he'd been swimming!! The rubber downer remains on strike and will do for the foreseeable future lol Thank you again for your support, we really appreciate it 🥰⛵🐾
It's really good stuff, sometimes have to use it a couple of times on really bad spots. Not sure you can buy it in the UK though. Steve was on about becoming a dealer and selling it in the UK, but COSHH regulations in the UK would kill the idea. The UK are so antiquated in those areas. Thanks for watching & commenting xx 🥰⛵🐾
11:10 that’s a lovely bit of jewellery you brought your wife Steve, sex & extra fish fingers, with double tomato sauce tonight for sure mate! I’ll send you a kofi to pay for the sauce? 😂
So, curious to know how long your last chain actually lasted and is that 10 mm? I lso wonder how the salinity in the Caribbean is compared to back in the UK. Here, we are about 30% more saline than in Pacific Canada waters and our new chain is already showing it.
Hi guys, the chain was 13yrs old 13mm. We turned it round in 2019. Perhaps not the best idea! We were mainly in a marina in the UK because of Steves job. We always anchored when we went out though, which was most weekends during the summer and obviously main holidays. However, we started to notice the quick change in the state of the chain when we were in the Med, which is significantly saltier than the Caribbean. When Steve cut up the chain, the inner steel was still brilliant, but regalvanising the chain here in the Caribbean is impossible. The new chain is 12mm and we WON'T be leaving it that long again before replacing again. The rust specs all over the boat from it are awful. We really regret not replacing a few years ago. 🥰⛵️
Haha! Considering the local are rioting about the 42% increase in food prices here in Martinique compared to France, the price of our new chain wasn't so bad. We worked out with freight and import tax we were better off buying it here rather than the UK, which Steve originally wanted to do. Sometimes he just needs slapping down and made to live in the real world 😂 🤣
NEVER USE SS ON A GALVANIZED CHAIN. That is why your chain is all rusted. The electrolysis caused by SS and Galvanized metal touching in salt water ate away all the zinc in the chain and your anchor. You don't need a swivel except a few locations like Fiji where the wind does a 360 everyday. In those cases, use an old fashion galvanized swivel.
We don't disagree with you, however the chain did not rust because of the swivel. Our Mantus swivel has proved its weight in gold on a few ocassions in the Med and in the UK. We would definitely not change it. What we have learnt is that we should have changed our chain a few years ago and not end-to-end it because that led to 50mtrs of chain wallowing in its own juices in the bottom of the chain locker. Thanks for watching and commenting 🥰⛵🐾
2:15 wow! Well done Annette.. look like new, (not sarcastic) really good 👍
It still needs a quick clean off, but yes the stainless is looking so much better. Thanks for your support 🥰⛵🐾
Cheers guys! I wouldn’t have joked around so much if i knew things were getting so serious there.. so sincerely, thank you!

I know, it was bad and so damned heavy to keep a hold of. Glad you enjoyed the episode 🥰⛵🐾
To bad about the riots, when I visited Martinique in 2017 and 2019 it was the place to go to stock up the fridge and freezer for relatively cheap.
