The concept of this device is really cool while also leaving a smaller footprint on your already more-than-likely crowed game setup lol. I do think it was a HUGE missed opportunity by not adding RGB or HDMI to this system though. Since the board is custom designed yet occupied by genuine chipsets they could have easily added RGB functionality by adding a couple more chips and a SNES multi video out port to the back. It probably would've made the entire package a bit more expensive, but you're already paying over $200 for one of these things so an extra $50 or so wouldn't have made much a difference.
I completely, one hundred percent, agree with you. IMHO; This product comes across as a high dollar, "value added" NES console, but the most important "value" component was not "added". Still, it is a nicely crafted and overall a clean looking unit, however for the $220.00-plus price tag, it really needs to have HDMI connectivity in my mind, to justify its premium price. Just my $0.02...
The original Analogue NT used original CPU & PPU I’m pretty sure from harvested from NES consoles. I have one and it’s pretty awesome. It came with composite but Analogue created a HDMI board that was fitted inside and offered it and the install it for free to the owners of the original NT
I actually got a AV Famicom and a line doubling Nintendo cable off AliExpress and it works way better than I thought it would. I think it’s a slightly more affordable way to get access to clean authentic NES via an adapter and Famicom games
As a player/collector I appreciate the "play how you want to play" mindset. I play what I collect, play what is uncollectable, but always play Rammstein.
I like this new NES clone, it’s kind of cool. I bought an original NES from my friend and I love playing it, however as much as I love it, the games are slowly becoming harder to play on it, no matter how many times I clean them out with alcohol, they’re slowly starting to become harder to play on it. Today I bought the Retron 5, as it plays so many cartridges, and the cool thing about it is it plays Gameboy games on your tv. I can’t wait to hook it up. I’m keeping my original NES for nostalgia reasons and just in case the new system doesn’t work for some reason.
These are the videos I really enjoy @Madlittlepixel !!! Although I still have my Analogue NT Noir, (That floppy slot has been fixed) I love to see new products! Especially one which support original hardware... Reminds me of Frankenstein's Monster lol... But, yea, I'm gonna wait a bit but, I may have to pic one up!🤔
I'd argue that the NSO service is another good (albeit limited) way of playing NES games. Especially if you have a the official wireless controllers or the 8BitDo N30 (like I have). After all, it introduced me to some hidden games such as Nightshade and Fire & Ice. That being said, it's awesome to see something like this out in the wild and even more awesome to see the NES get some love in 2023. It's truly a goated system.
All those NES that you have are all great, personally I prefer the original NES on a CRT TV because it was the way I played as a kid. It’s nice to relive that experience 😊😎
I got the eject adapter with mine, which is really nice. Also the famicom adapter. This is now my only way to play NES/Famicom games on my little CRT. 😁
It's nice to see Mario in his proper colours on a clone console, it's a shame about the video output, even RGB is obsolete on many TVs now, so the scaler is the way to go, I always say you get what you pay for, and this looks the best option , apart from the Mini Nes itself, a great video to start my Saturday morning off 👍
Just got one of these things yesterday. I know that you did this review like over 9 months ago. Honestly I see people pay crazy money for top loaders that have native RF. In all honesty I'd rather have one of these. The best thing is if I play FDS Zelda or FDS Metroid through my everdrive I get the great sound! Whoever Daniel from talldog is, I would shake his hand and buy him a beer. I love this console.
Awesome project! The composite video looks amazing and because it uses real chips it is superior to even the MiSTer in that regard. Giving it some design thoughts: might be advantageous to put the cartridge port at the back but with a 90 degree socket. That way the cartridge would lay on top. An hdmi micro/mini socket could also fit on the back panel. That would make this thing perfect IMO.
I doubt there will be an N64 mini. Apart from mario64 and mariocart all the best games were by developers like rare who won't be able to licence their games to Nintendo at this point. There really aren't many must have and fondly remembered games , I'm betting they just couldn't get enough of the good ones to make it attractive to consumers. Add to that it didn't sell very well compared to the competition so the market is much smaller. Also, the graphics have aged very badly. The SNES,pc engine, neogeo and megadrive sprite based gfx are almost timeless but early 3d just looks horrible nowadays, especially on modern TV's. The emulation hardware will be more expensive and the software will be tricky to get 100%. So no, I don't think it will happen anytime soon.
Do you think you could cover the Famicom adapter? I have yet to see a clone using a adapter that felt comfortable to use. That would really sway me if it worked well. My Famicom works fine. But its showing signs of wear. I would love to replace it with a newer system.
Probably the biggest turn off is the composite video. If it were HDMI, that would be a better selling point in my opinion but it is nice that we have so many options to play retro games. Just like I love the look and size of the Retron HD but I wish it was full 1080p and not just 720p.

It does, with an adapter, just like the original hardware. You can buy the adapter along with the device, it's slightly smaller than what you'd get for a NES and the cartridge will face backwards to save space.
I’m curious if there ever gonna be a PS2 clone console with HD upscaling, better sound and lightgun support.Or that Sony brings a “PS2 mini”with at least 50 games on it.
